Match of the Millennium

Description: At the mouth of the tomb is a long cavern, bearing strange paintings and symbols along its walls. Julia is busy studying these markings, trying to uncover their origins. When she discovers some of the paint is fresh, however, she is confronted by a strange bear, fur black as night, ambushing her. Not to kill her, but to steal her away...

Ever since joining the Front Line Militia and arriving in Illyria, Julia Chang's primary goal has been to assist her faction in their primary mission, which is defending against these strange phenomena which people are referring to as magic, as well as the monsters which have been popping up. It was bad enough that the Mother Earth was being threatened by deforestation, pollution, and other things like that, but now there was a new threat which could bring even more trouble to the planet. Ever since she was adopted by her mother, Julia had always been taught to use her fighting style to protect the planet, and that was what Julia was going to do.

After bidding goodbye to her mother and reassuring her that she would return safely, Julia began her expedition into the strange place known as Illyria. There was a little anxiety within her mind, but Julia was not the least bit afraid, for she knew that she was protecting the planet and countless others against this bizarre threat. "The spirits have protected me before," Julia said to herself during her travel there. "And they shall protect me again."

Upon her arrival into Illyria, Julia acted as an archaeological assistant to those who were specializing in that field of exploration. And it turned out the archaeological team was necessary, as they uncovered an ancient tomb within a cavern that appeared to be from truly ancient times. While the others had gone on to check into the tomb itself, Julia had found some strange paintings and symbols, and had stopped to analyze them. "These markings, it's almost like they're leaving a message of some kind, but I can't quite figure it out.

As the Native American young lady continues to analyze the paintings, she stops suddenly as her finger touches one of them and comes away feeling wet. Rubbing her finger against her thumb, Julia widens her eyes in shock. "This paint... it's fresh." She looks around with suspicion. "Is someone else here? Someone not part of my team?"

Who was here.

The strange paintings were only the beginning. But the presence of fresh work... what was this place? Where was Julia's team? Why was she alone. There was a heaving sound, a harsh breathing. And the stench of an animal rises. A shape moves through the cave, stomping with heavy paws. The shape rises up from all fours, as it stares behind Julia. Not at her. But the -painting-.

A bear.

In stature and build, it should have been a brown bear. Being in the heart of Albania, that was impossible. And the color of it's fur... inexplicable. The shape was almost like a shadow, pitch black without even a glimmer of light. At it's waist was crude rope, tied around a small satchel of talismen, bones, and a small pouch. Already, that was a symbol. But the towering, 8-foot tall beast had something even more strange.

It was it's eyes.

Burning, yellow eyes, with an all-too human spark of intelligence behind it, staring at the artwork. It touches a paw lightly on the paint past Julia, aggressive in presence. And then, the bear looks up and down the cave, before reaching it's attention on Julia. And there, it points a paw straight at her, shaking his head. Intruder. Intruder. And splittle flies from its maw, as it stands high over the young lady.

Unleashing a mighty, fierce roar of -bear anger-

As Julia looks around, her nose detects the stench of something like an animal. In fact, she recognizes it almost immediately as the smell of a bear... but something doesn't smell right about it. It's almost like there's something genuinely wrong with this, but she can't place her finger on it, although she suspects something to do with Illyria and its general atmosphere. Regardless, as the smell gets stronger, Julia attempts to turn and face where she believes the smell is coming from. "Spirits, give me strength," She says aloud, and that's when the bear does, in fact, enter the picture.

When Julia sees what the bear truly looks like, her eyes widen as she realizes that this is not a typical bear. There's something clearly wrong with the bear with its pitch black fur color, which even Julia knows is too dark for the standard black bear or grizzly bear. And then there's the issue of those talismen and bones tied around its waist. This was more than just a bear that was angry at Julia for disturbing its lair.

The glowing yellow eyes indicate that it has to be possessed by something or someone, and the way it touches the artwork with its paw indicates that its got a large level of intelligence, as it clearly knew where to touch the artwork, then looked directly at Julia and pointed its paw at her with a shake of its head. With that, the bear then roared a roar of anger as it took on a threatening stance, as most bears did when they spotted a possible threat.

"Spirits, protect me," Julia says loudly. "This is not a creature of Mother Earth, but possessed by some kind of pure evil which must be purged!" She assumes her fighting stance, narrowing her eyes and putting on a look that is not one of fear but of determination. "I shall purge you of whatever has possessed you!"

The bear gives a heavy snort, at Julia's words.

The fearsome creature acted in many ways like a bear; perhaps it was a mere possession. As Julia meets her fighting stance, however, the bear cocks its head. It's yellow eyes narrow, as it rubs it's chin. Shaking a claw on the paw, he lowers into -his- fighting stance; broad and open, paws up, a completely unnatural stance for a bear. But one that was... almost familiar. The bear opens it's maw again. Not to roar. But to say something.

"*Bear Noises*"

And the bear strikes.

The massive bear descends at Julia, hurling it's form at her. But it was not fang and claw coming down. No, the bear was rushing in, attempting to hook a massive bear limb around Julia's midsection. Scooping her up, the massive creature would then heave her over her shoulder. And if it could reach her there?

It would -slam- her down into a powerbomb, right on the cave floor.

"I don't want to have to do this," Julia says, although she doubts that the bear can understand her words at all. "But there is no other option. Please forgive me!" Julia maintains her fighting stance, staring at the bear that has just gotten into its own fighting stance, almost like there's definitely something unnatural about this creature. In fact, the way it was stanced seemed somewhat familiar to Julia, yet she couldn't quite place it. "What has happened to this natural creature of Mother Earth?" Julia wonders aloud.

Then the bear opens its mouth, almost like it's trying to say something instead of just roaring, but Julia cannot understand what the bear is saying. Although she can sense that it is attempting to communicate something, almost as if Julia's being attuned with Mother Earth has helped her to understand the things that are happening with the creatures of the Earth.

Without warning, though, the bear attacks, although it's not like the way most bears generally attack. Instead of trying to slash her or bite her, the bear attempts to grab at her midsection. It's then and there that Julia realizes that this bear is definitely something else than a natural creature, causing her reflexes to go into high gear. With a swift spin, Julia turns a couple of circles away from the bear, meaning the bear gets nothing but air as it attempts to grab at her.

"You poor creature, possessed by something truly unnatural. May the spirits protect your true form!" Julia says as she steps back towards the bear, attempting to deliver a swift kick to the bear's large midsection. "Forgive me for this, please, but it is for your own good!"

It becomes more clear that this creature was far from natural.

It's shape was twisted, it's form somewhere between man and beast. As it slips past Julia, it falls on all fours. Off balanced, it groans and huffs as it rises back up. Already, Julia was surging back with a kick. And then it becomes so clear. The bear... brings up an arm as it moves to a sitting position. In the crook of it's limb, it catches the blow, deflecting it into it's shoulders. Those yellow eyes narrow. And it rises up again. So clear now, into the fighting stance of a man. And it points at Julia again.

"*Bear Noises*"

The bear retaliates against Julia bearing down with a wild swipe of the right paw. Not to claw her, but to buffet her; it wasn't trying to rip her open like a beast. It was trying to simply -beat- her. A second paw will come, attempting to slam into her own mid-section low and fast. And should either hit? He would lift up Julia, and -slam- her into the ground with a furious backbreaker over it's knee. The kind of technique...

As Julia's boot-clad foot flew at the bear, it deflected her kick away with such a natural accuracy and precision, Julia knew right now that this was definitely an unnatural creature. Something that needed to be cleansed of the darkness within. More of its bear noises indicated that the creature was, definitely, trying to communicate with her, what with the pointing at her and all that. "If only I could understand you," Julia says with a pleading note in her voice. "I don't mean this to hurt but-"

Julia is cut off as she was suddenly struck with the right paw of the bear. She yelps loudly as the first paw smacks into her, and while she is surprised to find that it wasn't actually clawing her, it still hurts nonetheless. And then she's being _lifted_ by the bear, almost like it wants to slam her into the ground! "No! Spirits help me!"

Fortunately, the spirits do seem to come to Julia's aid, as just as she's slammed towards the ground, her feet hit the ground first, allowing her to roll forwards and put a bit of distance between the clearly possessed bear and herself. She takes a deep breath and blows it out, realizing just how lucky she is not to be cut open and bleeding profusely given how sharp the claws of a bear are. But the pain is still there, and Julia is truly starting to realize the seriousness of what she's gotten herself into.

"The spirits have protected me so far," Julia says as she spins towards the bear from a standing position. "And they shall protect you too, once you have been purged of this darkness!" Once she finishes her spin, Julia launches a swift high kick at the bear. If that connects, Julia will follow it up with a swift uppercut.

The barrier of communication was only a part of this mystery.

As the paw slaps Julia around a bit, it's clear that the martial arts are designed to subdue and capture, not kill. It was a self-defense technique, and a security technique. The bear would not kill Julia... but what did it want? Already, Julia was coming back. The high kick comes, and the bear deflects that one again, taking the blow to the shoulder. But when the uppercut comes, it's forced to bring both paws up to it, catching it painfully in the base of it. It lets out a pained groan, before looks down at Julia, as she finishes talking about the darkness. And it happens. The bear -shakes- his head at Julia.

"*BEAR NOISES*"

It growls angily, shaking it's head at the native american. Julia might not understand the bear, but the bear understands Julia all too well. The bear dips low, sweeping the leg with a low kick, it's movements blurring into the torchlights of the cave. If this was a not a bear, and was not a man... what was it?

And why was it here, at the strange tomb?

Indeed, the language barrier was just a small part of this huge mystery. The fact this bear knew how to actually fight instead of just trying to maul Julia and make her die a rather gruesome death only increased her suspicion that something was definitely wrong here. It was definitely not a natural creature anymore. "Spirits, guide me please! I have not encountered something like this before!"

At the same time she is praying to the spirits to guide her, the bear attempts to take out her leg with a swift kick. Reacting quickly, Julia tenses herself up, attempting to absorb the blow with her legs. The tactic succeeds, and Julia finds herself still standing, albeit with a bit of pain in her legs. "Spirits, if this creature is truly a natural one possessed by something else, then please allow me to purge it." Despite having determined that this creature is definitely more than just a wild animal, Julia still hopes that it can be saved.

Taking a few breaths quickly, Julia stares at the bear again. "I have a feeling that you are here for a reason, but I don't know what the reason is." She shakes her head. "Regardless, I cannot have you interfering with me in my attempts to investigate this place, as I have no intention of destroying anything." She steps towards the bear and shoots forth both of her hands in a double palm strike, energy from the spirits themselves flowing through her hands.

Here for a reason.

The bear sweeps the leg, showing some finesse with it's power. Julia was beginning to pull together the answers to the mystery. It was not a natural bear, and it was here for a purpose, and it could understand her. And yet, it could only speaks in growls and snarls. But as Julia catches the blow, the bear was exposed... and furious.

"*Bear Noises*"

IThat is what the bear responds with, as it furiously gestures at the walls. The paintings. The works. And then, a clawed paw to the actual entrance of the tomb. Was it a guardian? An intruder? A... craftsbear? An artist? The bear had a reason for being here, a duty to be here. And it clearly did not think Julia was. But if it was simply defending it... why not defend it? Why subdue Julia? The girl explodes with a palm strike into it.

And the bear rises into it.

The bear was hurling in, attempting to force through the powerful palm blow that was ripping over it's hide. Both paws lash out for Julia. Should the native american get caught between both limbs? The bear would lift up the poor girl by the back of her knees. The bear would lift her up high, and then. leaping up into the air, it would piledrive Julia straight down in the most sacred of Shadow Bear arts.

So the bear is here because of the tomb. Somehow, that seems to make sense to Julia based on what's happened to her so far. And she now suspects that the tomb has something to do with what's causing this bear to act the way it is. But what really surprises her is the repetoire of moves that the bear knows. Apparently it not only knows how to punch and kick and throw enemies, but it can even grab Julia behind her knees and lift her into the air?

"Ahh! No!"

Julia gasps a little as she finds herself lifted upwards, and then she realizes that she's about to be the victim of a tombstone piledriver. The moment the bear leaps upwards, Julia immediately begins to formulate her plan of action. "The spirits will help me with this! I am sure of it!"

Just as she's about to hit the ground, Julia breaks free and rolls forwards, getting away from the bear quickly. Of course, rolling with a sudden impact like that does do a bit of damage to her back and head. She rubs at her sore spots for a moment before shaking her head. "I must do this. The spirits need me to!"

Tapping her fists together a few times as if trying to get the spiritual strength back into her body, Julia dashes towards the bear and attempts to deliver a swift clothesline as she passes close enough.

Whose tomb was it?

The spiritual essence of the bear was neither fair nor foul... but what was it? Was it a possessing spirit, or was it something more insidious? In any case, as the bear goes for the tombstone piledriver, Julia barely escapes the worst of the slam. As Julia breaks from it, however, that seems to frustrate the bear even more.

"*Bear Noises*"

As the clothesline comes, the bear actually tries to duck under it instinctively; a trained reaction only from a true martial artist. However, the evasion comes too... tall. The bear is clearly used to taller opponents than Julia, and it takes it hard, hitting the ground. Flailing around dramatically, the bear eases up. There is no hatred in it's eyes, no rage now. A moment of... wide-eyed shock. It stands back up.

And the bear claps for Julia.

"*Supportive Bear Noises*" Is the response, as the towering creature ceases it's encouragement. Striding forward at Julia slowly, it runs to the wall of the cave, and drives a foot off it. Leaping off it, it hurls out a staggering bear-style drop kick right for Julia. Surprisingly acrobatic, and well finessed. But if the blow comes... it would be pure bear power.

And pure bear technique.

The bear may be frustrated with Julia escaping the piledriver, but that's just the way it has to be. She doesn't want to be crushed alive and have this tomb be her own as well. And as for the clothesline, well she's doing this for her own good as well as for the bear... although it may not actually be a possessed bear after all. Not that it matters.

The bear is now clapping for Julia? That's a surprise.

"Uh, thanks," Julia replies, trying not to sound sarcastic. "But why are you-" Julia trails off as the bear leaps off the wall and then attempts to deliver a flying kick at her. But Julia doesn't flinch at all until the last second.

With swift agility, the Native American girl rolls underneath the bear and avoids being kicked by the bear. "The way it attacks, this cannot be a bear of the planet... No, there is definitely something more sinister going on here!" Her eyes narrow a little.

"I will finish this! I must!" With that, Julia spins a little then attempts to deliver a low kick with swiftness, and if it connects successfully, she'll follow up with a swift uppercut!

The speed of Julia was keeping her safe.

As the bear unleashed the ultimate drop kick, the bear lands hard as it misses the Native America. Growling on impact, it struggles to rise back up. Just in time, as it turns out, for Julia to knock him off his feet! The bear falls, a massive uppercut comes, hitting it right in the bear jaw.

And it's like hitting a switch.

The bear roars in rage, as the claws come out. Flailing wildly, like an animal, the bear surges at Julia. Claws come out now, as the raking rending claws attempting to tear into Julia. A total of six swipes come, before the bear finally comes to try and seize Julia into it's mouth... and it would come just short of crushing her with it. The yellow eyes would go wide in terror, in horror, as it would stagger back, stunned at the ferocity of the attack.

Shocked at the pure feral rage.

Apparently, the last attack was too much for the bear to be able to handle as it really seems to be angry now. This time, the claws are visible, and it's obvious that Julia may have gotten in a bit deep. Yet, she knows there's no turning back now. She got into this fight and she's going to complete it in any way she can! Yet with those claws visible and the jaws ready...

"Spirits, protect me."

Julia's prayer turns out to be valuable, since she's caught by each and every one of those swipes from the claws of the bear, which tear through her outfit and into her flesh several times, before she finds herself being bitten by the bear!

But the spirits come through again as Julia finds herself able to break free and drop to the ground again, albeit with some diffiuculty this time. Her outfit is torn slightly and she's bleeding noticeably from that previous attack. She's just glad that the bear didn't hit her in the jugular or some other vital artery.

"Ungh... whatever it is... it must be dealt with! Spirits, grant me your strength!" Julia calls out as she steps towards the bear quickly, and then attempts to launch into a swift horizontal strike at the bear. If Julia connects, she'll attempt to follow up with an uppercut that then returns in the form of a downward elbow smash, followed by a backhand and then topped off with a swift shoulder charge!

It might seem suicidal to try that on a bear, but this is no ordinary bear. And Julia is no ordinary Native American archaeologist!

The look of horror on the bear's face was authentic.

Shame, deep shame comes over the bear, as he looks at the blood savagery of his rampage. Already, the bear seemed uncertain. Looking over Julia carefully, it seemed to be trying to find out if Julia was still alive. When she rises up, however, the bear stumbles backwards. Bringing up his arms, the horizontal strike pierces the guard, hitting the creature hard in the gut. The combination continues, catching the massive beast into a loop, only broken as she finally shoulder checks him. The bear smashes into the cave wall, smearing the painting on it's back. The Bear falls to one knee... and it shakes it's head.

"*Pained Bear Noises*"

The bear seemed to be injured well enough. ANd yet, waving his paw at Julia, he seems to indicate that he is fine. THe bear takes a deep breath, and exhales. No anger. No rage. Just calm focus, like he was trained by his Shadow Bear Senseis. Rising back up, the bear steadies his footing, transfixing his bear gaze on Julia. Bowing once, the bear returns back to his wrestling stance.

And lunges in cautiously.

Moving in, the bear attempts to sweep Julia up into the crook of his bear arm. Should he get a grab, the bear would turn around, and bring Julia's chin over his shoulder. There, the bear would drop straight down, unleashing a robust stunner, smashing the shoulder of the native american into his bear shoulder!

Wait didn't Steve Austin invent that one?

The bear was right to feel pained. That had to hurt.

But Julia knows that a wounded animal, whether it's natural or otherwise, can be very dangerous. When the fight-or-flight instinct has kicked in, there's no telling what an animal might do. Especially when it knows how to fight like a human, which is something that Julia has learned today can truly happen in a world like this.

Even though it's badly injured, the bear still wishes to fight Julia. And given how badly it's clawed her already, Julia does not want to risk being attacked again. The bear comes at Julia quickly, but despite her injured state, Julia manages to jump away quickly, avoiding the possibility of another serious injury. "Ungh... no..." Julia says as she aggravates several injuries with her landing. "Must stay focused..."

Using a few deep breaths to take her mind off the pain, Julia takes a huge deep breath then blows it out quickly as she lunges towards the bear with an outstretched arm leading the way.

The bear was barely fast enough to match Julia.

Missing the attack, the injured, tired Julia was slowing down. But the Bear was restraining himself, holding back. As the Native American moves for the intercept, she drives in with a lunging arm. The bear catches it, looking nervously at Julia. It could see she was in pain. All because of his savaging. The bear was getting nervous now. The bear... was ashamed. It showed it.

And it almost seemed restrained as it moves in.

The slams it's paws forward, unleashing a driving overhead smash with it's bear hands. IT was moving cautiously, carefully, trying to pull apart Julia's defense. But not, like, kill her. The bear felt responsible now for whatever happens to Julia. He couldn't let her escape.

But he couldn't let her die from his paws.

Julia tries to let the spirits guide her in her attempt to counter the bear's attack, by spinning in and delivering a swift elbow strike, but unfortunately even the spirits can be wrong sometimes. Before she can even begin to attack, she is slammed by the bear's paws, knocking her down onto the ground, leaving her in a fetal position, all curled up and looking like she's about to pass out. But despite the severity of her injury, she still manages to get back up, although it takes a moment with her being dazed from the impact.

As Julia struggles to get up, using one hand to steady herself, the room comes back into view, and the dizziness leaves her, her body being retaken by the pain within it. "Unngh... no..." Julia says, gasping for air. "Can't... lose... now..." She hunches over and breathes deeply. "The spirits... they will protect me..."

[JEZEBEL]
The bear nods solemnly, as the blow comes.

As he smashes through the woman's defenses, he stands tall over the woman, looking down with soft eyes. If this was merely prey and predator, it was the end for Julia. If this was merely defending his territory, then it would be the end of Julia. But nothing was so simple. As Julia hunches over, the bear nods once more.

"*Gentle Bear Noises*"

Standing over Julia, it circles around her, inspecting her injuries. The bear shakes his head. He owuld need to be careful. The Bear descends on Julia, going for the pin. The bear would put her into a pin, face down, to grip her to the traditional count of three; to send her into unconsciousness. He would not kill her.

But she could remain here.

Weakened, bruised, and bloodied, Julia looks like she's about to become bear fodder. At least that's how the average person might see it right now, not knowing that the bear is more than just a wild animal that is angry about finding Julia invading its cave. But the fact still remains that Julia is barely hanging on right now. She's praying that the spirits will bring forth a miracle for her silently. And she gets a miracle, indeed!

Julia feels a boost of speed as she dodges the bear's attempt to grab her and throw her down. "Unngh... thank you... spirits..." Julia says, smiling a little, but her smile is gone after a moment as she realizes the bear will attempt to attack her again. Knowing that she has little chance of survival either way, Julia decides the best thing to do is keep it up as best as she can. Maybe the spirits will bring her a miracle again.

"I... I'll... give it my all..." Julia gasps as she attempts to kick at the bear in hopes of showing that she can still fight.

She was much tougher than she looked!

The bear is startled as it dips to grab Julia, and the woman fights harder than ever! For her, it really did look like it was going to eat her maybe.As she kicks out, the bear almost gasps into a growl, as it narrowly blocks against the swift kick. The paws come together in a praying gesture.

"*Pleading Bear Noises*"

The bear focusing on Julia, is forced to use one of it's more powerful techniques. Lunging in, the great paws come around. Should he seize up Julia again, the bear would lifts her up, and spin her up on it's paw like a pizza pie! And then, flip her over into a single pancake slam, face down.

Truly a noble gesture.

There is no way Julia can escape this time around. She is caught by the bear and, despite her best efforts, cannot break free. She finds herself being flung up onto the bear's paw and spun like a pizza, which hurts a bit more than you might think! (Poor pizzas!)

And then the bear is preparing to slam Julia down onto the ground. But there's one last trick Julia has up her sleeve!

Just as she's about to be thrown, Julia uses the last of her strength to propel herself at the bear with her leg outstretched, attempting to fall with a kick than just splat onto the ground!

Somehow, the diving kick keeps Julia from passing out completely. She lands on one leg while the other one bends a little. Somehow, even though she's bruised, bloodied, and has literally little fight left in her, the spirits keep her standing.

By Shadow Bear culture, Julia was demonstrating herself as the most incredible and noble of warriors. Her incredible fighting spirit was beyond even a bear's as the poor ursa minor finds out as the splat doesn't quite come down. As Julia brings the last of her strength to bear, the bear of strength stands fast. The bear holds steady, looming over as the kick drives deep. And the bear looks with yellow eyes, standing steady over Julia with forbidding force. If she was going to fight with the spirit of a bear?

Then it was time to return with equal measure.

The bear sweeps his paws down. This time, the bear would unleash the most incredible of force. He would sweep Julia up, and hold her high over head, flat like a salmon. And then, he would slam her back into a German Piledriver... before flipping over her for a second German Piledriver. And then, a third, most incredible German Piledriver, to execute the relentless grappling chain for good... with the last of the BEAR'S true power. For Julia has fought nobly.

But it was time for the laws of nature to take place.

Julia takes one, two, three suplexes? That's gotta hurt!

OK, so they're German Suplexes.

But wait, just as the third one is about to occur, Julia feels a rush of power within her, and then suddenly she drops out of the bear's arms and proceeds to launch a swift kick, followed by three carefully timed punches, and another kick...

Then drops to the ground for real.

COMBATSYS: Julia can no longer fight.

I guess here, it would be Albanian.

As the wrestling assault finishes, the bear stands fast, exhausted. The last, spirited effort from Julia comes, and the bear can only just barely catch it. The blow knocks him into the wall again, in a burst of fur, and his whole body shudders. The Bear's belt falls off; the rope and talismen scattered around. The pouch falls on the ground. And the bear... the bear sits there. It would have preferred to just wait there.

And then the sound of humans rise from the tomb.

The bear struggles, standing up. He scoops up Julia swiftly, and staggers, staggers towards the mouth of the cave. He is on all fours, breathing hard. Faster. Faster... as the last of his energy burns on him...

COMBATSYS: Shadow Bear takes no action.

... And the bear barely makes it, taking Julia out of the cave. Seizing her away, kidnapping her.

But where would he even take her?
