SNF 2015.01 - SNF: Ambulance Chaser

Description: In perhaps one of the most risky SNF matches to date, Hollywood vehicular mayhem is recreated live and with no stunt doubles as rising wrestling star Rainbow MIka faces off against Gorin High's own Brett Neuer, on the top of a speeding ambulance. And having further mayhem along the highways not far from the mobile fight doesn't help the poor duo's situation much either. (Winner: DKO)

Some people like to go watch action movies and then, failing to realize just how much work actually goes into making those stunts work (including making it only look like people are doing something dangerous), decide that it would make an incredible premise for a fight. This latest adventure in vehicular excitement has been brought about by a SNF coordinator having recently watched the 8th movie in the car action porn series known as Raging Speed. A series that is also famous for having an incomprehensible name rearrangement.

The scene in question from R Spee 8 involved the protagonist (who happens to be a criminal working on a giant operation to steal a shipment of product placed Z Bone consoles) facing down in a fight on top of an ambulance against the antogonist (a special investigator attempting to protect these Z Bones from being stolen). It so happens that this investigator was played by a wrestler turned actor, and seeing that Howard Entertainment had managed to secure Rainbow Mika for their latest event, the fight coordinator put two and two together and decided to have this fight reinacted for the viewing public.

How he decided that the part of a giant, bald muscle man should be played by local high school student Brett Neuer is anyone's guess.

It's also apparent that this producer is of the persuasion that believes that laws don't apply when you have money, because rather than secure and close off a section of road for this event, it has been scheduled to take place on one of the active highways that loops around the city of Southtown, and neither fighter will actually have any sort of protective equipment to secure them to the stunt vehicle, which is in fact a completely normal ambulance, ignoring the fact that somebody has somehow put an ever more powerful engine in it and the fact that it is being driven by famed stunt actor Alex Charger to ensure that it is able to properly weave in and out of traffic in such a manner as to make the fight more exciting. Secured in the bay for medical support is model and aspiring (read terrible) actress Nurse Tanya Onatopp in a nurses's outfit that would look incredible inappropriate if the costume department hadn't received notice that part of Rainbow Mika's contract means they can't force her to fight out of her wrestling costume.

For the time being the explosive fighting star that has spawned the phenomenon knows as Mikamania is seated in the back of the ambulance, standing in what little room is allowed with the gurney in place as the ambulence makes its way dramaticly through the Southtown city streets toward the nearest on-ramp to the expressway.

Not being a regular movie goer, the intent behind this match up's concept is mostly lost on Brett Neuer. He's only vaguely familiar with "Raging Speed", and not enough to know about this scene in particular. All that he knows is the concept itself, and just how...amazingly crazy it is. Then again, Brett is realizing that SNF fights tend to have weird conditions to them, more and more as he does these.

At least he got to fight with his own clothes on too. That padding he usually wears will...probably....come in handy should things get hairy. And Brett is already imaginng all the ways this could go wrong.

"This is insane..." Brett frets, gloved hands fiddling with the top of his usual hockey stick. He really doesn't know what to make of the idea that they have to fight on an actual speeding ambulance. It's enough to make him ignore the fact that he's in such close quarters with a burgeoning model and...well, Mika. Well, that and the fact that he's already faced MIka before (albeit in a losing effort).

Then again, if anything can distract a boy from being near two women with excessively revealing clothing, it's plain ol' panic.

Quite honestly, not even the usual enthusiasm of Rainbow Mika manages to hold steady under these circumstances. She did actually go watch some of the Raging Speed movies (mostly because she was excited to see one of her wrestling idols [which furthermore consists of almost every major wrestler in the last 20 years] crossing over to mainstream success). The fact that she was essentially being tasked with not only fighting in an incredibly small space surrounded by danger, but also take on the role of Zane "Iron" Watson is a lot of pressure.

Seriously, who thought it was a good idea to put two fighters on top of an ambulance? There's not a whole lot of room to maneuver.

This has left Rainbow Mika in a fairly silent contemplation as the ambulance makes its way through the streets. In fact, silence seems to be the order of the day, when you combine the two fighters and the fact that the model in the nurses's outfit has been wondering how this match will advance her career if she's inside and the fighters are outside, the only one talking is Alex Charger... who honestly seems like he's trying to be quite friendly and helpful as he talks about how they managed this stunt for the movie.

The major downside is that the way he's describing the action scene for the movie involved multiple takes, a lot of stunt drivers, a closed off road, and some CG work, none of which are currently part of this event.

Soon enough the engine begins to roar as he merges onto the highway, taking a position in the center of the lanes of traffic. "Alright, we're in position and ready to rock. Good luck, you two. Break a leg."

Also not the best thing to say under the circumstances.

"Well... I guess it's time to get up top," Rainbow Mika finally says, slowly starting to pull herself into the appropriate mood to be the energetic wrestler her persona needs to be. "Good luck, Brett. I look forward to seeing how you've improved."

And with that, the wrestler pops open the rear door of the ambulence and takes a look at the busy road behind them. Directly behind their vehicle is a Howard Entertainment camera truck, and a careful examination of the surroundings would note a few others in position. The rest of the cars, unfortunately, are genuinely people trying to get somewhere who likely won't appreciate what's about to happen.

Mika grabs hold of the edge of the roof, and in a maneuver that shows just how insane her worksouts must be, she hauls herself up and around onto the roof in a single motion to plant her feet in a wide stance, bracing a hand up in the direction of the driving airflow as her ponytails flap wildly behind her.

"Please don't say that," is Brett's quick response to that ill-fitting line of encouragement from the director. It really is quite a morbid thing to say considering the circumstances after all. And Brett really...really looks like he dosen't want to do this. But it is what it is...and despite how utterly insane it is, Brett isn't about to back out from something he's already committed to. He's just not that kind of kid.

WHich can be both a blessing and a curse, depending on the situation.

Either way, Brett follows behind Mika, not responding to her own show of sportsmanship, too focused on not devolving into a jibbering mess right now. Fighting is one thing...but as he climbs up to the top of the roof after the wrestler, he finds himself even more convinced this is a terrible idea, his heavy frame crawling low on the roof until he slowly rises up to his feet. About the only time he's glad he doesn't have his skates on for a fight, for once...

The fighters are in position on top of the ambulance (that is really looking too small to have a fight that's much more than a few punches, people struggling as they lay on the roof, and the occassional hanging moment). The cameras are ready for the fight to begin, as notified by the fact that the radio in the driver's compartment of the ambulence begins to squawk its confirmation from all the various assigned vehicles for the shoot, and it's at this time that the external speaker on the ambulance (ususually used to impart important safety knowledge to crowds or blocking traffic) blurts out "AND ACTION!"

Already there are a ton of cars beginning to slow down awkwardly, or speed up, depending on which side of the road they're on, in an effort to figure out just what's going on. Some of the people immediately recognize Rainbow Mika from her distinctive look, but even those individuals can't quite seem to parce that somebody has actually scheduled a real fight up here.

For her part, Mika isn't quite sure what to do. If she hits Brett too hard, doesn't he just fall off the ambulance and... the fight's over, with him hopefully alright? What the hell were the safety guidelines for this? They're travelling at over 100 km/h! There's no straps to hold them to the vehicle, and the road behind them isn't really all that clear.

In an effort to not accidentally ruin the bright future of a young man like Brett, Mika endevours to start this off by trying to get him out of the fight quickly in a very controlled manner. This involves lunging for the hockey player, attempting to hook one arm in between his legs while the other snakes around to his back as she hauls him up, sweeps him upside down, and then drops forward so that he hits the roof of the ambulance back first and she falls right on top of him, bracing her feet on the roof to keep either of them from flying off.

Still unsteady as he constantly tries to keep his balance, Brett looks...barely ready, swaying and holding onto his stick like it was his last anchor to land. When he actually has the time to think about things other than not falling off an ambulance roof, he'll be glad that he'd been working on those squats for so long to build up his base. Didn't think this would be quite the situation said work would apply to.

And it's not really helpful when you're actually being lifted clear off your feet. That's something that'll clearly have to be worked on later. For now, Brett is forced to think quick, eyes widening as he's picked up, then tossed down to the roof. He's able to twist and turn to both absorb as much of the body slam in a roll, as well as avoid being flung off the roof by the bounce. Of course he still has to grab onto the edge just to be sure, as the ambulance hits a a turn and is forced to weave around traffic.

Grunting as he pulls himself up, Brett looks...well, it's hard to tell. His teeth are gritted, and his eyes are hardened like his usual game-face. But there still seems to be the undercurrent of terror as he manages to pull himself into a crouch on the roof. That terror doesn't keep him from lashing out though, trying swing up the heel of his stick from his crouch like an uppercut, straight toward Mika's chin. It's going to be hard for him to fight in a way that isn't supposed to smash an opponent off the tiny roof, but...then again, that's probably what the promoters were counting on.

Now that the fight has actually started, it gets to the part where somebody is likely to find themselves having to clear up a whole lot of trouble with Southtown PD as the ambulence rapidly shifts lanes, cutting off one of the drivers in such a manner that it looks incredible dramatic, and would be quite easy to deal with... if this was a scripted event where all of the drivers were trained stuntmen. Instead the driver has to pull aside and slams on his brakes as he tries to avoid rear-ending the ambulance.

It's about this moment where somebody working on the production staff informs Alex Charger that he should turn on the lights and sirens. No, nobody has realized that at least warning people of this on-coming disaster is important; instead the producer has radioed in with a very important notification. "Why the hell aren't the goddamn lights on? If you don't have the sirens going, then I might as well have paid for a moving van, and what sort of asshole wants a video of two people fighting on a moving van?"

Okay, so nobody thought this through at all.

As for the fight itself, Rainbow Mika does her best to twist sideways as Brett's stick comes flying at her, but she suddenly finds herself up against the edge with her boot hanging over nothing. She has to rush to take hold of the roof and takes a real firm grip. This means the stick hits her hard in the jaw and rocks her backward, for a moment looking as if she's about to lose control and going flying off!

...And then her head rocks forward again, an intense look in her eyes and a nasty welt forming on her chin as she pushes herself back up onto the roof.

For a moment, the wrestler opens her mouth and starts to speak, but with the sirens blaring, and the wind whipping everywhere, there's absolutely no chance for Brett, let alone any microphone, to pick up whatever important announcement Mika herself is making.

"... ... ...... .... .... ... .. .!!"

With that finished, she twists around, catching a surprisingly firm grip on the roof as she tightens her leg muscles and then blasts into an upward arc, ass first... and it appears that the downward swing of this gravity-enhanced parabola would bring Mika butt first into Brett's head.

Hand placed on the roof for support, Brett doesn't pursue when he manages to strike home and nearly cause Mika to slip off the roof. He's having trouble hanging on as is, and when the lights and siren's start to flash and blare finally, he's not exactly in the best place to say or do anything to assist either. His ears end up ringing something nasty, to the point he can't even hear himself try to shout back at Mika. "....?!"

So when Mika flings herself upward and ass-first, it's a snap decision that has him hold pat. Crunched down on, he ducks his head in and tries to absorb most of the impact on his back. Not that it mitigates the damage any, but because it's a lot harder to retalitate when you have someone's posterior slamming into your face.

Grimacing at the crack across his upper back, he turns and twists, trying to snap his stick hard against Mika's side, then yank down hard to pull her straight onto the roof. It might help keep her still on the roof, sure, but it's not going to be a soft landing either if it happens.

None of this is working out particularly well. Getting out of the way of attacks just puts you in danger at the edge of the ambulance, and getting hit is likely to knock you off as well. Both fighters look unsteady and uncomfortable, and the complete inability to hear what either of them is saying cuts out on the drama of the fight scene from the movie where (through the magic of post production) there was quite a lot of cool dialogue.

The producer isn't going to be especially happy with any of this at the end.

Neither are the motorists who keep having to deal with the ambulance blarring past them and seeming to do everything in its power to make those who manage to start pulling off to the side to make room still get just barely missed by the truck. One unfortunate communter loses the mirror off the side of her BMW.

As for the battle on the roof, Rainbow Mika is at least doing her best to put on a show. When Brett goes for her, the wrestler just holds steady as she takes the stick to the side, and leans into the roll as it slams her into the roof... at the front of the ambulance.

Having put herself into the position she was waiting for, Rainbow Mika grins as she gets back up to her feet and once more launches up into the air... this time she's completely assisted by air pressure attempting to slow her down relative to the speed of the ambulance and she goes flying toward Brett, attempting to wrap both thighs around his head as her bodyweight slams him into the ambulance's roof. Locking him in place, she twists up and around, once more using air friction to assist in the process of plowing Brett into the roof, with her hands attempting to apply friction to the roof as her thighs clench on his head in case he doesn't have it in himself to catch the roof afterward.

Mind, it's hard to care about a fight concept going well, when you're one of the fighters trying to make it work, and having your own body put on the line for it. And even if they could be heard saying anything, it's hard to imagine that the banter would be terribly witty or cutting. It takes a rare performer to pull that kind of thing off in the midst of such a dangerous task.

And while Mika might be that pefformer, Brett certainly isn't. He's just trying to survive the fight and give as good as gotten. And while neither of their fighting styles lend themselves well to such narrow platforms, Brett feels positivley sedentiary compared to his normal style. The best he can do when Mika flings herself back from the front of the van, legs first, is get his stick in the way and avoid her locking onto his head completely. Even then, the following flip is dangerous enough, and with his weapon in the way of her grasp, she's unable to hold him down to avoid him flying off the van...thankfully, his stick manages to hook itself onto the Ambulance lights enough to keep him from sliding completely off, and saving him a harder impact with the roof.

Not that his shoulders are thanking him much for the wrenching force it takes to keep him from tumbling onto the zooming highway beneath them. Grunting as he pulls himself back up to the top of the van, the Gorin athlete himself ends up doing a bit of flying of his own, but with nowhere near the height or the execution of Mika's. It's about as lumbering a roll as can be, but even then, with the law of inertia working both for and against him and Mika, a rolling heel kick might still be something to worry about, skates or no skates

There are a great many problems with being on top of a moving vehicle on a highway that is blaring sirens at their maximum volume. One is obviously that it's incredibly dangerous to your immediate health. Another is that its dangerous to your long term hearing. One last reason, that is very rarely a problem, is the fact that it makes it strangely hard to hear a nearby warzone.

What, exactly, is meant by that?

Well, unfortunately for the SNF producer, this isn't the only vehicular excitement that has been scheduled for today. Elsewhere vital action is occuring... vital action that has no real chance of reaching the fighters on the roof.

Under the circumstances, it's not all that strange for this to simply continue. Rainbow Mika gives Brett plenty of time to get back up to a stable position, hardly cruel enough to risk doing any serious damage to the boy by breaking his stick and kicking him as he climbs back up (which would be a very good strategy if it didn't risk leading to murder).

With Brett prepared to launch right back into the fight, there isn't honestly all that much room for Mika to move out of the way, and so when Brett comes flying in at her, she doesn't move, instead holding position as she's struck, which leaves her in perfect arm's reach to suddenly lunge forward and plant both hands on Brett's shoulders.

In this exact moment, Mika's incredible performing voice combined with proximity to make it fairly clear what she's saying, at least to its audience of one. "The longer this goes, the more likely it is for one of us to get hurt bad! Let's go big while we've got our wits!"

And then she plows her forehead into Brett's. It's not a simple one time maneuver... it's repeated over and over to the point where even someone used to the brutality of the rink would likely be dazed. Once she's hopefully left him unable to react, she hooks an arm around his neck, bending him over at the waist as she leaps toward the front of the ambulance, legs tossed out in front of her as her arms rests her weight on the back of his neck.

Considering the sheer lack of defense that either side has been able to truly muster, it would be a brutal affair even on stedy ground. On the swerving expanse of the ambulance, it's even worse. With such precious little real estate, the options for either fighter are limited. WHich is probably why Brett doesn't really bother to try and defend in a conventional way.

When Mika comes in, and starts plowing her head toward him, Brett doesn't really bother to try and avoid it or stop it. He actually /leans in/, meeting it head on, relying on both his helmet and interrupting the full momentum of her headbutts to stall the blows, even as they ring his head each time. Not the sanest sort of defense, or a defense at all, but it seems to work. At least until Mika grabs at his head, still getting him dazed enough to do that much.

But when she leaps forward to crash his head into the ambulance, he manages to get his stick in the way....not to soften the blow, mind, especially since steel-reinforced wood is a horrible cushion. It's to keep his posture up as he's slammed down, preventing him from being fully sprawled out when he does impact headfirst.

Propped up in an odd prostrate position, he still has his hands on his stick, pushing himself up by it. A gutteral sound comes from him, almost a roar that's drowned out by the continued siren as his stick slashes outward toward Mika, a thin aura of cool blue energy around it as he strikes, then another, alternating constantly as if trying to bat and balance her from going too far any which way off the roof. Almost like one would do to a ball bouncing on a racket face, trying to keep it from going too far to reach. it shows he still has enough awareness to not want Mika to fall off...but that doesn't mean it's not going to hurt if Mika doesn't do something.

Things are starting to become more difficult for the ambulance, the cars have been slowing down up ahead, getting closer together and bunching up as traffic seems to be avoiding something. There are big flashes in the sky, almost like fireworks, and a strange rapid sound that manages to ring through the air despite the distance in a weird 'brrrrrt' noise. It's not enough to tell just what's happening from here, but the radio has started to crackle with unusual chatter.

Something is going on, and the route is very suddenly being changed.

With little room, Alex Charger is forced to pull some particularly tight maneuvers that put dents in the cars of a few unlucky drivers, ultimately whipping the ambulance around to head down the highway in the opposite direction. Unfortunately, many of the camera truck drivers aren't nearly as skilled, one crashing right into a delivery truck in a nasty collision. By the time everything gets sorted out, there's only one camera still on the action.

As for the fight itself, Mika's already in a bad spot as Brett ends up being nowhere near as dazed as she'd intended. She's got no room to move as he comes flying in at her and begins to make stick practice with her as the puck. Quite honestly, it's lucky she didn't try to roll out of the way there, because with the sudden turn she'd likely have gone flying off.

Back inside the ambulance, Nurse Onatopp is swearing in her native tongue about how much of a mess this is as Charger looks back and shouts "Hey! Let 'em know up top that we've got to change our route!" Kind of late for that... but Onatopp does as she's told, popping open the door... and knocking the gurney out the back as she shouts to two fighters who have no chance of hearing her. The gurney itself happens to have a few straps stuck to it, and as the wheels drop down, it begins to bounce along behind ambulance wildly.

Up top, Rainbow Mika has managed to pull herself together slightly and surges back into the fight, planting her heel and twisting into a backfist, ignoring Brett's helmet and instead trying to catch in under his guard to hit him in the side, planting her heels again and then twisting in the opposite direction to catch him in the other flank before locking in position to suddenly launch ass first right into his gut.

Hopefully if she hit's Brett too hard to catch the roof, he'll at least hit the gurney.

As the ambulance gets even more erratic, Brett is forced to hang on tight to the ambulance lights, nearly losing his stick on a hard veer. A sharp grunt escapees him as he tries to keep balanced...and then the lights in the skies start to explode. The sight is enough that the Gorin kid is forced to take pause, even dropping his focus enough to bother to speak. "What in the..." he starts to say....

Just as the backfists start to fly, slamming him in the jaw, one of the key unprotected places on his head. Reeling, he's set up in prime position for that flying hip check to his chest, the slamming force sending him toppling right off the edge of the ambulance.

It's a good thing that gurney was there, that's for sure. Not that Brett can appreciate his luck, bouncing against the highway as the thing precariously bumps along the road, wheels nearly torn off once his bodyweight drops on it. Hanging on for dear life along the piping, he manages to pull himself up slowly. He trades a look with 'Nurse' Onatopp...one that wordlessly says just how much he regrets signing up for this.

But eventually, he manages to finally pull himself up, hooking his stick onto the roof of the van again. Hefting himself up, he climbs back to the top with a grunt. "Nnh...."

He opts not to get up to a vertical base once he's finally there. Instead, he lays flat on his stomach, his stick spun outward in front of him, then slightly above his head, trying to chop at Mika with the reinforced wood. It might chop her down enough to drop to the roof again, this low, but it'll probably beat being blown off the sides like he nearly was.

When Brett goes over, Rainbow Mika is quick to the edge of the roof to check on her opponent. The fact that she didn't immediately see him go skidding down the pavement when he went down was immediately a good sign, and there's a clear look of relief on her face as it becomes apparent that he isn't going to need to have another ambulance called to pick up his pieces.

It's only now though that the wrestler has an opportunity to notice... something happening in the distance. Traffic has completely seized up on the other side of the road, headed in that direction, and looking back, it's interesting to note that the ambulance isn't speeding any more than the rest of the reckless, trickling traffic coming through. Something has locked up both sides, and the ambulance's path has managed to clean up some... which is good if one of the two fighters goes over, at least they don't have to worry about much more than road rash.

Of course, by this point Brett has managed to get back up to the roof, and as he comes flying in, Mika's only option is to pull her arms up to ward off the blow as best they can... It works, but Mika doesn't look like she can put up with much more of this.

In an effort to put this to a finish, the wrestler leaps in at the hockey player, planting her arms on her shoulders as she whips up over his head and snares him about the midsection. In a moment of pure power, she launches backwards into the air, bending into a perfect arc as she aims to crush Brett's helmet into the lights on the roof of the ambulance.

...This really is it. She feels her body attempting to fail... but she's not ready. Not going to give up just yet!

The chopping helicopter strikes strike against Mika's guard, which Brett is somewhat grateful for, considering how much of that was just to try and ward Mika off long enough to give him time to get up. And with the ambulance starting to slow down (at least relatively), it does make it easier for him to get up. Too bad that, just as he does get up, Mika vaults over him.

The resultant suplex is hard enough to shatter the lights and Brett's helmet, the sound almost like a car crash itself and almost enough to tear through the very roof of the ambulance.

Dazed, Brett manages to roll back, on hands and knees. Groaning and with his sight completley unfocused, he manages to lurch forward, stick slicing up from the roof of the van. The result is a wavering wave of cool blue chi, one that seems to have a hard time keeping together as it sails toward Mika and off the edge of the ambulance roof. Hit or miss, Brett would fall forward, stick barely still in hand and groaning as his head throbs painfully.

Upon suddenly finding the roof of the ambulance's cab dented in, the lights suddenly going wrong, and noticing the strange state of the road, Alex Charger begins to slow the ambulance down. Certainly he was aware that a fight was going to occur on the ambulance he was driving, but he's used to these sorts of things simply being choreographed for cameras... and at this point he's pretty sure that whatever craziness is going on further away with all the flashes of the light in the sky isn't just some special effects.

Nurse Onatopp has pulled out her cellphone and is busy giving her agent an earfull about arranging this terrible gig. She's fairly certain she hasn't had any opportunity to get on camera, and now she can't even close the back door to the ambulance because of the gurney hanging out!

As for Rainbow Mika? Well, she's starting to look a bit worn out. As Brett's chi comes gliding at her, she does her absolute best to duck right under it, but instead catches it full in the chest and goes flying off the back of the ambulance, landing hard on the gurney and bending it in half at the midsection. The belts holding it strain under the weight, and Mika only manages to remain on the cushioned bed as her boot catches on one of the rails, her head is mere inches from scraping along the road... she also doesn't look like she's got it in her to pull herself back up.

Groaning, Brett looks up, with the feeling of the ambulance finally slowing down a bit, and the siren apparently being flicked off, or at least turned down...he's not sure, his ears are still ringing too much to really tell. Crawling forward, he looks over the back, seeeing Mika hanging off the gurney. "....are you ok down there?" he manages to ask, finally finding his voice again.

He even goes so far as to try and reach his stick down toward her, to try and help her up...or at least enough to get her to climb back into the ambulance proper.

Not looking especially pleased at the moment, Rainbow Mika actually does her absolute best not to move, considering that the gurney feels as if its on the verge of falling to pieces. When Brett leans over the roof, she still tries to keep absolutely still as she feels every bump in the road going through the damaged equipment.

"...I don't think this match was thought through very well..." She manages as she prepares herself for everything going horribly wrong as soon as she moves. The wrestler twists up to grab hold of the stick and uses it to help give her enough upward motion that, even though half the gurney suddenly decides to roam free and go flying off down the road, she still manages to grab hold of a handrail inside the bay and pull herself up. This gives her a decent enough position to free her boot... and avoid any immediate danger to life and limb.
