SNF 2014.12 - SNF: The Kyokugen Cage

Description: Wherever Kyokugen goes in Southtown, petty grievances are sure to follow. For instance, a fight between Yuri Sakazaki and neophyte fighter Scratch in the middle of Downtown Southtown becomes a victim of Howard meddling, as a cage ends up dropped right upon them, locking them in. Who will escape the Kyokugen Cage (as it is mockingly referred to) the winner...who will escape it at all?! (Winner: Scratch)

Yuri has found herself in quite a few Saturday Night Fights, a lot of which have been under unique circumstances. But tonight's fight isn't unique. It's truly insulting. Namely because Geese Howard is the one behind these fights, and to insult the Sakazaki family, he's placed Yuri and her opponent in a steel cage in the middle of the Downtown area. To make matters worse, it's cold out and Yuri's only wearing her usual fighting attire, which has her shivering quite a bit.

In hopes of making the best of things, Yuri has been warming up while waiting for her opponent to be ready. She didn't recognize her at first, so she's thinking tonight will be the night she meets a new foe... and hopefully defeats her. "I'm gonna do my best here, because Kyokugen is the coolest!" She says to an onlooker outside the cage.

Fights like these tend to be the kind that makes one rethink their foray into the world of professional fighting.

Last fight, Scratch, even with a paid trip, ended up in the midst of a collapsing city street that she barely outraced (and her poor opponent, less so....). And here, in the middle of winter in the world's other major supermetropolitan, Scratch seemed to be set for a rather...normal fight. Sure, the fight area was more enclosed, but she thought she could handle that.

But as she tried to ignore the cold, long sleeve shirt underneath her multi-colored mesh and large headphones acting as earmuffs in a sense, a cage was dropped upon her and her opponent, a girl not much older than she. "The hell is this crap?" the Metro City punk shouted, scowling a bit as she reached out to test just how solid the cage was. Discovering it was quite solid, she scowled even deeper before turning to Yuri. "I dunno if you noticed, but you just got locked in a cage," she says rather tonedeafly.

Shaking her head, she doublechecked her skates, making sure they were on securely before looking over to her opponent. "Well, whatever. I guess there's only one way out."

"Yeah, and it's because the Howard Organization," Yuri says, not caring if that's the name of the group or not, since they're losers to her, "Made us do it like this! It's not fair, we should be in an open arena so I can show off just how cool Kyokugen is!" She grins and pumps her fist briefly, before getting back into her fighting stance. "Looks like we're gonna have to fight our way out though." She stops as she notices Scratch wearing... inline skates? This is getting more interesting by the minute!

"All right, I'm ready when you are," Yuri says as she advances on Scratch, a slight smirk still remaining on her face. "We may be caged in, but I'm still gonna fight with my all so you better watch out! Because Kyokugen is the coolest style in the world!" Just like Yuri is feeling right now with this cold weather around her.

Rolling her skates back and forth in place, checking what kind of purchase she gets on the fighting floor, Scratch frowns a bit. She still really doesn't like this set up, not at all. But it is what it is. And even if she forfeited here, she'd have to find some way to get out of the cage still. So stuck for now, she pushes herself up from her knees. "Fair enough I guess. Looks like I'll just have to fight my way out too." And sure, she might not have anywhere near the pedigree of Yuri's style (considering Scratch doesn't have any kind of formal style at all).

But as she sprints forward with a great dash on her skates, she shows that whatever she doesn't have in formal training, she has in style otherwise, dropping to a slide as she approaches Yuri. With the momentum from her dash, she tries to collide right into the karate girl's shin and ankle, one leg tucked in under her extended leg as she skids low on the ground.

COMBATSYS: Scratch successfully hits Yuri with Acid Soul Slide.

Scratch          0/-------/------<|=------\-------\0             Yuri

Yuri's watching Scratch to see what kind of techniques the skating fighter has up her sleeves. Unfortunately, she's not expecting her to come directly at her like that. Yuri gets hit in the leg and shin, just like expected, and she drops onto one knee, holding her other leg in pain as she cries out. "Nooooo, that wasn't supposed to happen!" Yuri says in embarrassment as she tries to shake out the pain and get back onto her feet. "OK, I admit I was off-guard there, but I'm just warming up!"

Yuri attempts to close in on Scratch and throw a simple punch. Or rather it looks simple enough, but to Yuri it's done in the Kyokugen style, giving it that unique bit of 'oomph' when she throws it. If it lands, who knows what might happen?

COMBATSYS: Scratch wards against Yuri's Jab Punch.

Scratch          0/-------/------<|=------\-------\0             Yuri

Sliding up through and behind Yuri, Scratch pops up and onto her wheels again, a quick pivot about so she's facing the Kyokugen girl again. She isn't about to stay still for too long, considering her manueverability advantage (at least self-perceived advantage, anyway). But she doesn't get a chance to move once she's gets upright before Yuri's on her again, a quick punch popped toward her. Eyes widening, she ducks herself behind an arm, catching the punch high on it in a way that pushes her bacl on the impact.

Feeling the sting on her arm, she frowns. It's not a bad hit, but it's not a hit she wants to take much more of if she can help it. Narrowing her eyes, she pushes off into a hard dash again. She doesn't go straight for Yuri this time though, trying to pick up speed by circling her, ever so briefly. Once she drives in, she tries to hook her arm around one of Yuri's just enough to pivot around her, then shove her down to the ground. And someone as tapped into the powers of Kyokugen as Yuri should be, she'd recognize the feel of chi pushed through the skater punk's hand as she tries that winding takedown.

COMBATSYS: Scratch successfully hits Yuri with Rewind Whip.

Scratch          0/-------/-----<<|====---\-------\0             Yuri

Yuri was not expecting that in the least bit. She gets caught by Scratch and thrown to the ground. Despite hitting it hard, with the pain slightly amplified by the cold, Yuri still rolls backwards onto her feet again. "That was a cool trick," Yuri says, still grinning. "You gotta teach it to me sometime! Because I'm gonna teach you one of my tricks right here, right now! Watch!"

Yuri brings her hand back, focusing her chi into it. Then she brings it forth, sending forth a small fireball. The fact she only uses one hand indicates that it's not as powerful as it could be to some, but the truth is that it's just the Kyokugen way of doing it!

COMBATSYS: Scratch dodges Yuri's Ko'ou Ken.

Scratch          0/-------/-----<<|====---\-------\0             Yuri

Scratch doesn't wait once she's taken Yuri down. NOt when she already has her rhythm down, and her momentum seems to be building. Soon as Yuri falls, she's skating again, carving a quick figure 8 around the Kyokugen fighter to avoid being too predictable in which side she's coming from. "Trick?" she asks, her mind immediately going to a skate trick first and foremost. Of course, just as she tries to think of what kind of aerial trick the girl could teach her, she finds herself with a fireball flying at her.

"Oh sh-" she exclaims before leaping. She doesn't leap quite over it, no...instead, she leaps sideways, her skates hooking onto the grating of the cage and pushing off it to fly AROUND the fireball instead. Her eyes still look rather worried, rather not in the mood to see how hard that fireball hits.

Instead, she flies toward Yuri, legs tucked in as she comes in. Trying to grab onto Yuri's head, she aims to pull herself around Yuri, then pull herself up to drive knees straight into the martial artist's back as she finally hits the ground.

COMBATSYS: Scratch successfully hits Yuri with Aggressive Air.

Yuri thinks she's got this, but she's off by a huge margin. She's caught and attacked hard. She gasps in pain and finds herself rubbing her back while trying not to cry out again. She looks to Scratch and scowls. "This isn't fair! I thought we were evenly matched, but apparently we're not!" She is about to attack, but stops suddenly. "I have to fix this, and I have to figure out how!"

Then Yuri gets an idea. "This is what I'll do!" Yuri rushes in and attempts to deliver her own custom rushing uppercut attack.

COMBATSYS: Scratch blocks Yuri's Yuri Chou Upper.

Scratch          0/-------/--<<<<<|=======\-------\0             Yuri

The big drive in is successfully enough, but one of the problems that particular method of attack has for Scratch is that she has to STOP. And without her constant movement, she doesn't really have the breadth to move away from Yuri in time before she attacks. When the uppercut comes, the Metro City native only has enough time to cross her arms and hunker down. Even then, the attack blows away her hastily improvised guard and sends her spinning away.

Shaking her arms as they tingle painfully, she glowers toward the Kyokugen girl. PUshing off again, she makes a break straight toward her again....before dropping low once more. And while it looks like she might go for that slide kick again, she stays on her wheels as she crouches in, trying to snap her elbow outward toward YUri as she passes by.

COMBATSYS: Scratch successfully hits Yuri with Medium Punch.

Yuri gets hit with the elbow, and elbow punches hurt like crazy. Yuri reels back and holds the injured spot in pain, gritting her teeth and no longer feeling like she's showing off the world's coolest style of karate. Instead, she feels like this was all an intentional way of insulting her. Still, Yuri refuses to give up. She slaps her face a few times before looking at Scratch.

"I really underestimated you, but I won't do it again!" Yuri brings BOTH hands behind her this time, focusing her chi, and then sends forth a huge fireball, larger than before.

COMBATSYS: Scratch blocks Yuri's Haoh Sho Ko Ken.

Scratch          1/-------/<<<<<<<|=======\==-----\1             Yuri

Rolling past after that gliding elbow, Scratch again tries to pick up some speed. Trying to find room to move in an enclosed square cage makes it hard to pick up a whole lot of speed, without your line of movement becoming terribly predictable. That becomes a problem as Yuri cups her hands and builds up energy. Unable to stop as the giant fireball shoots through her path, Scratch is forced to cross her arms again as the shot sends her flying back on her wheels. She's able to absorb the worst, but by this time, her forearms feel numb, the skater shaking her arms out as if hoping to will blood and feelinb back into them.

Realizing she's got a few problems right now, the 'street artist' starts toward the cage again...and just like before, she locks her skates onto the grating before backflipping off of it. Trying to sail over Yuri, she lashes outward with a foot, skate wheels streaking in the air as energy courses through them. One foot held back at the ankle, it's quickly released for another, faster flipkick, the tension before lashing out helping give her enough momentum to flip clean over hopefully.

COMBATSYS: Yuri reflects Method Slicer EX from Scratch with Saiha.

Scratch          1/------=/=======|=======\=------\1             Yuri

Weakened as she may be, Yuri still refuses to give up. As she attempts to catch her breath, she watches Scratch come at her, and attempts to think of what her action should be. Unfortunately, she seems to think a bit too hastily, as she raises her hands and surrounds them with a shield of chi. It's used mainly to reflect projectiles away. But in this case, it does something unexpected.

As Scratch comes at her, Yuri manages to deflect Scratch (yes, SCRATCH) away from her with her chi. She releases her chi and looks, doing a double-take as she realizes what she's done.

As limited as Scratch's fighting experience is (after all, low-level Mad Gear thugs aren't exactly the most elaborate fighters ever), Scratch clearly isn't expecting anything quite as fancy or shocking as a shield of pure chi to block and reroute her chi back toward her as she kicks like that. But tha's exactly what happens as her Method Slicer meets Yuri's Saiha, and the energy she had been lashing out with ends up being completely rebounded straight back into her legs again. "NGHH!!" she grunts out, landing painedly and grippiing at her ankles. Her fast start halted and her rhythm disrupted finally, the Metro punk finds herself slower to get back up again.

"Ngh...not a bad trick there yourself..." she grunts out, before digging into her cargo pants. It's nowhere near as fancy as the tricks she'd been attacking with before, but a can of spraypaint shot straight to the face isn't anything to sneeze at either. Especially when it's charged up with the skater's own energy. SUre, it's usually used to mark someone for later tracking, or help her recognize her own old tagging spots, but in a pinch, it's still a nice way to get an opponent to back off while she gets a breath.

COMBATSYS: Scratch successfully hits Yuri with Taggin' It.

Yuri gets tagged in the face... barely. She twists to the side but still gets a whiff of the awful smelling chemicals. She gasps and steps back a little, trying to wipe it off with her hands but finding herself having no luck. Fortunately, her eyes seemed to be spared since she squeezed them shut at the right moment. Nevertheless, Yuri doesn't like being sprayed, especially since the chemicals are causing her to become a little dazed and confused.

"Ungh... where's the last train?" Yuri babbles, before she shakes her head a little, trying to regain her senses. "Oh, you did that?" She says, albeit weakly. "Here, eat THIS!" Yuri yells out in a moment of pure clarity, sending forth a series of large fireballs after charging her chi.

COMBATSYS: Scratch blocks Yuri's Denjin Haoh Sho Ko Ken.

Scratch          0/-------/=======|=------\-------\0             Yuri

Barely able to catch Yuri with her spray, Scratch tosses her spraypaint can aside, brow furrowed and her hand reaching back to her cyan-colored ponytail. It's bought her enough time that her arms aren't quite so numb feeling anymore, nor are her legs. Just in time, as Yuri sends forward not just one, but SEVERAL of thsoe huge fireballs toward her again. "Dammit!" she shouts. Adrenaline hitting her, she drops her shoulder down and brings her arms in, blocking one fireball. Feeling that numbness return up her arms, she's able to pivot away from another before she's forced to catch another one on the opposite shoulder. "NGHhnn!!"

Panting, she feels herself spiking, that surge of adrenaline hitting her all at once as she feels the pressure one. Racing forward, she doesn't try to attack YUri bodily this time...rather, she tries to simply hook a nearly numb arm around one of Yuri's again, just like before. ONly this time, she tries to swing the karate girl around by that arm and hopefully forward into a cage wall.

COMBATSYS: Scratch successfully hits Yuri with Quick Throw.

Yuri finds herself caught and hurled into the cage wall. She lands hard and collapses onto the ground. She tries to get up but she can't. Instead, she grunts to herself, realizing she's made a fool of herself throughout this entire fight. She looks up and gives a slight thumbs up, before her eyes close again and she collapses into a crumpled heap.

The swinging toss into the cage seemed to be enough to finish the game, but Scratch feels like she's still a bit too...antsy to keep still. She's not even sure if Yuri is even down for the count. At least not until the bell if finally rung. Pacing (and by pacing, she means 'skating rapidly back and forth'), the Metro City native frowns. "So I won, huh? Now let me out." She says, looking between Yuri's crumpled body and then the cage walls.

Seeing no one coming to open the cage for them, or anyone trying to raise it, the skater decides to be more...proactive about it. Taking some speed up, she leaps up as high as she can toward the cage, trying to slice her way through with energy-charged skate wheels. Sure, it didn't work on YUri before, but she's sure a cage won't make a shield to stop her like the Kyokugen girl did.

COMBATSYS: Scratch has ended the fight here.
