Description: Setsuna Sonozaki meets up with Yuri Sakazaki. They're considered to be an Odd Couple, but who will turn out to be the better of the two? (Winner: Sonozaki)
She isn't sure -why- she signed up for this. Perhaps it's because Sunshine City reminds her, in many ways, of her hometown, Metro City; the combination of run-down and sparkling industrialism... Setsuna Sonozaki signed up anyways, and so, here she is. The place is a mess--clearly the abandoned factory needs to be repurposed. But before the crews do that, they're going to be in for a show. Setsuna looks like a high-school-aged girl, for sure, though she isn't wearing her Gedo uniform (who does?), instead fitted out with a black denim jacket, grey tanktop, blue jeans and boots and black gloves.
"Sakazaki. Heard of them before... this might be fun." There's a touch of Kyokugenryuu to her style, as it is--more philosophy and methodology than actual techniques, but it's there, nonetheless. This'll be her first meeting with a true Kyokugenryuu practitioner... she looks forward to it.
Yuri signed up for this for the purpose of improving her skills... and for showing people the true power of Kyokugen Karate. This place is nothing like where she comes from, but that doesn't matter to Yuri. She loves visiting new places and seeing new things. Yuri's appearance in comparison to Miss Sonozaki might be quite a unique one. She's wearing a karate gi top, but instead of matching bottoms, she wears purple leggings with white socks and red sneakers. She also wears a red headband, and her hair is tied back into a long braid.
As Yuri stretches out for the fight, she looks up and sees her opponent standing nearby. "Ohh, you must be my opponent, huh?" She cracks her knuckles and rolls her neck around a little. "This is gonna be great!" She grins.
Setsuna favors Yuri with a thin, bare smile. "Yes, that's me..." Glancing to her right, the girl, who, as Yuri may now notice, has a black patch over her left eye, sees that the cameras and everything are all set up--as if to highlight this, the powerful floodlights are snapped on, bathing the factory floor in harsh, white light.
"You're Yuri, then. A pleasure." Setsuna's already done her stretching; she walks out onto the factory floor, right onto the chalk mark that denotes her starting position. As she waits for Yuri to assume her place as well, Setsuna is concentrating--gathering power.
And that isn't exactly without signal--a wind whips up around her, not quite visible, ruffling her clothing as she plants her feet to the deck, her hands coming up and crossing in front of her at the wrist, almost like a cross-block stance from boxing.

"Yeah, it's nice to meet you too!" Yuri says with a big grin, bowing slightly before walking over to her chalk mark. Despite the bright lights, Yuri still can see without losing her eyesight. She cracks her knuckles one last time and says, "All right, let's get this on, shall we?"
With that, Yuri gets into her fighting stance, bouncing slightly on her heels as her 'trademark' addition to her stance. She watches as Setsuna begins to gather her power. Nodding a little, Yuri comments, "That's a good way to start off." She smiles at that comment, almost like she's complimenting her opponent. Her stance remains strong as she awaits her opponent.

"... heh." Setsuna's power flares over her, almost solidifying--and then the wind dies out, and the Gedo student is left facing Yuri, all by her lonesome. Right, well... Setsuna gets to be the first off the block, so to speak, as she drives forward on her powerful legs. She takes maybe three steps before she goes into a crouch, midstep, and then powers herself into a leap, tucking nearly into a ball.
As she reaches Yuri, she fires a knee combination--left knee, right knee, reminiscent of the kinds of flying knee strikes seen in Muay Thai; it bears some resemblance to the famous Tiger Crush, though it is far less explosive...

Yuri's seen Muay Thai in action, and she knows what knee strikes can be like. She also knows they can be very painful. Which is why her first instinct is to bring up her makeshift shield. She brings her fists together and brings forth a field of energy around them. Unfortunately, though, even the best defensive maneuvers have a chance of failing... and this is one of those cases.
Yuri is caught completely off-guard and is stricken by the knees. She yelps in pain and finds herself staggering backwards, holding herself and trying to catch her breath. Yet, when she looks up, she smiles and gives a thumbs up. "Way to penetrate my defense!" She says with a wink.
Setsuna lands and goes into an attack sequence immediately, smoothly, for all that her style is about hitting hard and fast--the philosophy isn't incompatible with being graceful. She drops into a semi-crouch, then comes up with a short left uppercut--a blow aimed for Yuri's chin. It is, in fact, designed to just clip the girl's chin, to stun her enough for Setsuna to enact the second part of her plan--which would be to grab Yuri by the ears and twist to Setsuna's right, to throw her into the floor.
The attack is a bit brutal, though it isn't delivered with malice, even as Setsuna grunts at Yuri's cheerfulness. It... grates on her, a little, but then, she's hardly a cheerful girl. "Let's see if I can keep it up," she says, shortly.

"Come on, I'm ready!" Yuri says confidently as she watches Setsuna come at her. And when she does, Yuri attempts to show her the move that she considers her signature: The Yuri Chou Upper. Like a dragon punch, but with Yuri's own touch. Unfortunately, that doesn't happen.
She's caught again, and finds herself down on the ground, moaning in pain and bruised. She struggles to get back to her feet, and when she does, she takes a moment to dust herself off before getting back into her stance. She doesn't say anything though.
Setsuna smiles, sardonically, as she connects the stunning punch and the throw. Seems she did find a way to shut Yuri up... but that wasn't really her primary goal. She's just here to fight--to gain experience and to work out. She's going to take valuable experience from this, no matter what happens--if she continues to just beat up on Yuri or if Sakazaki turns the tide.
"Come now, show me that famous Kyokugenryuu. I've studied it, at little... but not enough to have learned any techniques." Her voice is a little soft, but still audible, and she sounds utterly serious. Gathering her energy again, Setsuna draws in on herself, a burst of swirling wind flaring from her feet up around her, rippling her clothing as she draws the power in.

"Show you Kyokugen, huh?" Yuri says as she regains her breath. "I'll be glad to." She smiles a little. "I was merely warming up, which was why that didn't go so well at first." She steps back a little to assess what Setsuna is doing. "Gathering your power again? That's not going to do enough good if you can't use it."
Yuri steps forward again, taking a few running steps to get close enough, and then brings her arm back to send forth a small fireball-type projectile at Setsuna. Can she snap out of it in time to avoid it or do something about it?

The projectile splashes across Setsuna's upper body, throwing her backwards several steps--but it looks like she didn't even try to get out of the way. It was painful, for sure, but she can deal with pain. If she couldn't, she wouldn't be able to perform with her martial art. "Yeah... something like that," she grunts, not-quite-smiling but close.
And then she starts to move forward, to make up the distance she lost--but only until she's regained half the distance. Then she stops and she throws her right hand up and out, a quick uppercut from a distance--unleashing a hissing, grey blade of wind chi, flying across the ground at Yuri, topping out at about chest height.

"That is definitely one of the moves that I've learned from my style," Yuri comments with a grin. "I'll show you more, gladly." She stays in her fighting stance, showing no sign of slowing down. In fact, despite the fact that there's another projectile coming at her, Yuri doesn't seem to mind. In fact, she crouches down and avoids it completely.
"Missed me!" Yuri says playfully as she comes back up. "But I'm not gonna miss with this!" Yuri adds as she comes at Setsuna with a swift kick aimed at her stomach.

That extra distance -does- help, certainly, and the Windcutter is a narrow technique, not a wide one. Setsuna is not surprised that Yuri is able to avoid it, as the Sakazaki girl certainly seems limber and agile. Her eyes narrow, tightening as Yuri comes flying in with that kick---and she twists, taking a half of a spinning step. to her left, to avoid that kick.
The motion isn't simply an avoidance, though; it's the prelude to an attack, a brutally simple one taken directly from the American Special Forces style she grew -up- learning, a twisting backhand with her right fist. Simple, yet brutal, a blow that, delivered 'properly', could destroy an orbital or smash a cheekbone, though these are not Setsuna's goals.

That backhand is a rather dirty move in Yuri's book. Which is why she's not keen with being hit like that. She brings her hand up and grabs it just at the last minute to direct it away while putting Setsuna in an off-balane position. Two things for one.
Yuri doesn't wait with her next action. She attempts to grab Setsuna by the shoulders and throw her onto the ground in a swift manner.

Setsuna isn't as off-balance as Yuri might think, but it's enough to keep her from being able to avoid the grabbing hands. However, she throws herself into the grab, rolling on her shoulders rather than being put flat on her back, and she continues the roll twice more before coming up... and grinning, if not in a particularly friendly manner.
"Well, I guess I ought to give you something a little more special," she says, grey wind power flaring around her right hand--once again, she throws her right arm in an uppercut--only this time she unleashes an actual tornado, as tall as she is, racing for Yuri. If it hits, well, Yuri gets a brief trip upwards, and that tornado is composed not of wind--but of slashing wind -blades-...

"You want to give me something special?" Yuri asks with a sly grin. "Well, then bring it on, I'm ready!" She remains steady in her fighting stance, despite the fact that she's taken a fair beating and has a few bruises to show for it. "I love surprises, you know!" And when Setsuna comes at her with the projectile, Yuri knows just what to do.
"Oh no, that won't do!" Yuri says with an evil grin, scowling but still smiling. "I'm afraid I'm going to have to return it to you." She brings her chi shield up again, and this time it works. She sends the projectile back at Setsuna. "Enjoy it!" She says, sticking out her tongue and giving an eyeball.

Now -that-... *that* is chagrin-causing. Setsuna's attack, returned to her... it isn't as strong as it could've been, but it still hurts. And as she lands... well, she rises again, but she... well, she's starting to show some emotion. That emotion is a very controlled anger, burning in her eye, visible in the way her mouth compresses into a flat line.
"I can see why I was paired with you, now," she says, her tone betraying only the slightest bit of that anger. "Someone wants to make me angry..." And she starts off, again, running forward, heedless of the distance she has to make up, yet again--and looks to, quite simply, just crack Yuri on the nose with a jabbing punch from her left hand.

"Angry? That's no good! You gotta keep a positive outlook on your life!" Yuri comments as she watches Setsuna recover from the attack. "Seriously, they didn't pair me with you to test your patience. I'm sure there are other reasons." She briefly takes a moment to dust herself off before looking to Setsuna again. "So come on, let's try to have a good fight?"
Before the fist gets to Yuri's nose, her hand comes up to catch that fist. Then she throws it to the side again to put Setsuna in another off-balance position. "Here, let me show you how it's done!" Yuri comments as she brings her right fist upwards towards Setsuna's chin.

Setsuna's head snaps back, briefly, but the punch does little to diminish the light in her eyes. "Think your teacher needs to teach you more about a punch, like that..." Case in point--Setsuna aims a punch back at Yuri, the fight having devolved to a stand-up brawl of sorts--she aims to thrust that one-knuckle punch right into Yuri's sternum, hard enough to rap the solar plexus--to make it extremely hard to breathe.
And, should that happen, she'll slip around Yuri and aim to just choke her out for a bit--a few squeezes, nothing more, before pushing her away, in the direction that Setsuna was standing in.

"My teacher?!" Yuri's eyes go wide abruptly, then her face contorts into a fierce scowl. "How DARE you talk about my father like that?! Who do you think you are?!" Now Yuri's really mad, a stark contrast from how she was just a few moments ago. "Nobody insults Kyokugen like that and gets away with it!" She grits her teeth and clenches her fists.
"Oh no you don't!" Yuri adds as Setsuna attempts to grab her, who attempts to stomp out of the way. But she fails, and it caught and hit hard by her opponent. She finds herself staggering around, struggling to catch her breath and keep from passing out. When she finally does that, she turns to face Setsuna again and says, "I'm gonna make you pay for that!" But then something occurs inside of her. Something tells her she's supposed to be happy-go-lucky, not throwing a temper tantrum. With that, Yuri closes her eyes and takes a few deep breaths.

Has she regained the offensive? Perhaps she has... in any case, Setsuna isn't inclined to sit back anymore. So she pursues, even as Yuri closes her eyes--not the smartest thing to do, but, she's sure, Yuri knows that already. It isn't as if she can't hear Setsuna coming, her feet landing on the concrete flooring, heels making sharp, percussive sounds as she closes again, at a fast walk.
If Yuri opens her eyes in time, she'll see Setsuna cocking her right hand for a punch--or she might see Setauna already -throwing- that punch, a simple hook punch aimed to land right in the softest part of Yuri's cheek. "I was insulting -you-, not your father," she remarks, conversationally, "though the use of the word 'insult' is a bit much..."

Not again. Yuri isn't going to let Setsuna punch her in the face. She brings her hands up to knock that punch away. "You can say it's too much, but I just have a lot of love for my father." Yuri says with a smirk. Although that's not exactly true sometimes, but it is true for the most part.
"But enough of this. Let's really get this going strong!" With that, Yuri brings her fists back and charges her energy into them, and then sends forth a large fireball-type projectile at Setsuna.

The projectile splashes across Setsuna again--but she was ready for it, the impact sending her back but far less painful than she had been expecting it to be. "That.. is going strong?" she asks, still sounding conversational. Yuri did manage to get some separation, though, though it's not likely to dissuade Setsuna from continuing to attack...
And indeed it doesn't, as she darts forward again. Setsuna grabs for one of Yuri's arms--the right--attempting to use leverage to twist the arm around and behind Yuri, a painful move that could be used to break a limb or two, if she were interested in doing so--but as this is a 'charity' fight she's holding back a little on the damaging ability of her attacks.

Very painful indeed. Yuri finds her arm being twisted and she yells out in pain, leaving her completely vulnerable to whatever Setsuna has in mind. For better or worse, that's all she seems intent on doing, but it still hurts like crazy. When Yuri finally wrenches her arm free, she feels it and yelps. After shaking it a little, she finds it's just a bit tender, but not broken.
"You're a real dirty fighter, you know that?" Yuri comments, still holding her arm. "I don't approve of dirty fighters like you!" And Yuri intends to make that point with a swift punch aimed at Setsuna's stomach.

A little chuckle, as Yuri comments. "You're right. I -am- a dirty fighter." She doesn't seem bothered by it in the least; in fact, she seems proud of it, in a way. That's only because, well, Special Forces training isn't about winning a match--it's about dfeating an opponent as efficiently as possible, and the other martial arts Setsuna's drawn from are all the same.
What she does now, though, is pure boxing, all very straight up and 'clean', as she attempts to just hammer Yuri, slamming a quick left left right combination--two short jabs and a right cross--all aimed for Yuri's head, rather than going for another body shot.

The attacks come at Yuri, one after another, and each time Yuri is able to block them, albeit feeling the pain from absorbing each one indirectly. She yelps as the last one hits her. Apparently, she's really starting to feel the pain of her opponent's abilities. But even when she looks like she's got the odds really stacked against her, Yuri just doesn't give up, not at all.
"OK, that's enough," Yuri says as she looks up, an aura of chi swirling around her body. "Now I'm gonna show you what I'm really capable of!" Yuri takes off towards Setsuna, and attempts to leap up and deliver a series of kicks into her stomach and chest.

Setsuna withstands the barrage of kicks, dropping her arms and crossing them, letting her forearms take the brunt of the attack. Painful, but better her forearms than her stomach--even if her stomach is as taut and muscled as the rest of her. When the barrage subsides, Setsuna grimaces--she's going to have -bruises- tomorrow--and then she lunges forward.
That wind chi flares into existence around her hands as she attacks, spinning through a left knifehand, following up with a right ridgehand, and then another left knifehand--and finishing up with a final turn and a hammering uppercut, aimed to explode right up underneath Yuri's chin, the wind blades hissing as they cut through the air--and possibly Yuri.

Weakened, and unhappy because one of her attacks failed big time, Yuri simply stares at Setsuna without any words really. She glares and waits to see what Setsuna has next. Of course, this could all be a ruse to get Setsuna off-guard. And it works, since Yuri's shield attack (if you wanna call it that) succeeds in protecting her once again. "Sorry, no soap!" She says with a sly smirk.
It hardly seems to matter to Setsuna, that Yuri keeps stopping her attacks; she's relentless now. Even with the rebound she still swings to the attack, grimly silent now; she's pretty sure Yuri can't keep expending energy like that forever. She must be tired. Setsuna's aching and tired, but she's monitored her energy levels carefully...
And so she returns to up-close, physical attacks, thrusting her right leg upwards in a high knee attack, aimed to land in Yuri's stomach--maybe even as she's smirking like that. Irritating. It's safe to say she'll never consider Yuri a friend, though she will respect her skills as a fighter.

That smirk doesn't disappear, nor does Setsuna land her kick against Yuri. In fact, Yuri somehow manages to keep her eyes on Setsuna carefully enough to make sure that she doesn't get her at all. Rather, as soon as Setsuna begins to kick, Yuri anticipates where she's coming from and where she's aiming, and then dodges to the side to make sure the kick goes past her completely.
"Pretty good, but can you keep it up?" Yuri asks as she attempts to strike Setsuna in the side of the jaw with a swift left hook.

Setsuna's head tilts to the side as the hook punch lands. "I guess we'll have to see," she says, a little thickly, as she gathers her concentration for a moment--then brings an attempt to just headbutt Yuri, to just smash her face with the broad, flat portion of her head. It's simple but not exactly regulation--but headbutts are seen in many martial arts, and can be damnably effective, when used right.

Traditional or not, Yuri's not in the mood to be headbutted today. She takes a step to the side and twists as well just to make sure she doesn't get hit by that cheap shot. Of course, she's not going to just stand there and let Sonozaki recover easily. Instead, she's going to try to grab her by the neck and do an over-the-shoulder throw!

Setsuna lands hard... but jumps right back to her feet. Her teeth are gritted, her fists clenched so hard she can't even begin to imagine what she'd do if she -really- let go... but she can't let herself do that, either, and so she looks to just control herself... and she lashes out again.
It's actually a complex series of attacks, though, slowed by pain, they may prove simple to avoid--Setsuna's right, her dominant hand, employed, mainly, as she throws a sweeping backfist, followed very quickly with a left--almost a hook, almost a cross, a hybrid of both--and finally a lunging uppercut from the right, as she thrusts herself forward, attempting to invade Yuri's space and unbalance her.

The series of attacks catch Yuri way off guard. She's unable to keep herself from getting hit. In fact, Setsuna will find herself landing every blow with perfect accuracy. The girl is knocked off balance, and then starts to stagger around a little. With the last of her strength, Yuri attempts to send one last large fireball at Setsuna... but after she's thrown it, she's gonna fall over flat on her face.

Setsuna's reaction is instantaneous--or it would be, were she not so damnably tired. Her wind blade forms--inside the large projectile--and while it chunks most of it away, a silent fizzling of energies, enough of it is left to slam Setsuna back. As Yuri falls to her face...
Setsuna is dropping to her knees, panting, eyes unfocused as she employs her will to stay awake, to stay conscious, to banish pain. There's a lot of applause and cheering--for *both* fighters--from the audience, as medics rush in to tend to Yuri and Setsuna. For her part, Setsuna Sonozaki felt the fight was a pretty incredible comeback by Yuri. She certainly has an even healthier respect for Kyokugenryuu karate now.
