SNF 2010.12 - Whatever Happened to Kyo Kusanagi, Pt. 2

Description: Kyo Kusanagi seems to be slacking off again and doesn't arrive for his scheduled fight at The Duck Pond. This leaves officials quickly working to get a makeshift match thrown together. Instead of teaming with Frei to take on Kyo that Hayato is now the single man facing down Faolan and Frei in a massive stick battle. (Winners: Frei and Faolan)

Dancing? Eh, Hayato can take it or leave it. But drinking, now there's an activity Hayato can get behind 100%. For adults only, of course. The springtime of youth should not be tainted by such things, no matter how awesome they are. Normally the Burning Phys Ed Teacher would wait until after the fight to start drinking, but he's been waiting here at The Duck Pond for quite a while for Kyo to show up, and the younger man is nowhere to be seen.

Eventually Hayato wanders over to the bar, and manages to get most of the way through his second drink by the time the fight coordinator walks up and taps him on the shoulder. Kusanagi is a no-show, huh? Slacker. He's never going to graduate with that attitude! Hayato slams back the rest of his drink, then walks out to the center of the dance floor, humming to himself and rolling his shoulders as he takes up his position. Fighting Frei instead of alongside him? Hey, whatever! It'll be fun regardless.

Is this damn fight ever going to start? Like Hayato it seems that another participant decided to get his drink on. In this case Faolan more started because he thought he wasn't needed in the end and just was around to enjoy watching the fight and having a nice buzz. So after half a dozen or so beers he comes to find out suddenly he is fighing as well which causes the Irishman to lean in and peer at the official. "You coulda told me that earlier, fellah." he says with a grump. He prefers to be fully sober when he fights during stuff like this. Though he admits he could have used several drinks before fighting Naerose last week.

He makes it towards the fighting area and he at least seems to be sober enough to not make an ass of himself. He isn't Ralf afterall. He has some restraint. "All right lets get on with this." he comments as he readies his bata and then eyes Hayato. "Huh, another weapons guy...." he says with a slightly amused tone. Of course he must have forgotten about Frei, the guy he beat on high above the ground is a weapon user as well afterall. Or maybe he was including the man in his comment. THE WORLD MAY NEVER KNOW!

So. Let's say a day or so ago you wake up in a strange bed you don't remember lying down on, wearing clothes you don't remember putting on. Then you realize your actual clothes have been locked in a trunk, along with anything else you were carrying, and Takuma Sakazaki has cheerily demanded that you pay him $250 (not counting $50 discount coupon) for the clothes that got put on you, and isn't forthcoming about exactly who it was that put them on you in the first place. What's the rest of your week going to be like at that point, really?

Exactly.

Good to his word, Frei wore the Kyokugen outfit home, happily asking questions from passersby about what school he 'studied' at and where they could go to learn more, then got home, changed into sweats and a t-shirt, and had the thing dry cleaned so perfectly that he shed a single tear, taking it back from the clerk. By whatever happenstance is necessary, Takuma is either not at home or... off punching holes in Nazis or whatever it is he does with his free time, when Frei arrives with the gi, so he at least got his normal clothing and his wooden sword back without commentary or incident. Which is good, because that gave him enough time to get home, take a shower, check his messages, and discover he was supposed to be downtown at the Duck Pond for an SNF in roughly an hour.

As the door to the Duck Pond opens, in fact, you can see Frei turn around and wave to the driver of the Southtown Metro Transport bus that got him here from his apartment in the Village before walking in to the place and realizing he's... uh, late. Approaching the Pond's established fighting area and giving the others a sheepish wave (and indeed, there's the 'weapon' slung through his back belt loops), he then blinks when he opens his eyes again and processes that while Hayato is here, the other person mentioned in the voice mail is not. Blinking, he turns to Hayato. "No Kyo, huh... well. I wouldn't mind a match against you, Sensei. I don't think we've ever been opponents before. It should be fun."

With that, he walks over to Faolan and smiles a little once he realizes who the guy is. "Oh, hey. Nice to see you again. Welcome to a fight with consistent g-forces." And with that, he turns toward Hayato, getting into a loose ready stance. "I'm ready when you two are!"

Hayato makes a few swipes through the air with his shinai, then gives Frei and Faolan a friendly nod. Then he shoots Frei a grin. "Yeah, should be fun. Don't expect me to hold back!" His grin widens as he swings his arm up to let his shinai rest lightly on his shoulder. Then he glances off to the side to make sure everything is all set.

And it seems to be! Hayato turns back to his opponents, then begins walking toward them. "Okay fellas, let's have some fun!" And suddenly the muscles in his right leg tense as he's taking another step forward, and he goes from walking to nearly flying across the dance floor, drawing his right arm back as he closes in on Frei. Sure, he's holding a bamboo sword, but that still leaves his hand in the form of a fist, and Hayato's quite happy to either smack someone with the blade or, as he's doing now, punch them in the face.

The Ikari casts a glance towards Frei and he gives a faint grin and reaches upwards to give a tip of the hat. "The officials seem to be taking it easy on me as of late. Been nice to have solid ground under my feet as of late." He will just try to put that Naerose incident behind him and pretend it never happened. Both her and Megane gave him a bit of a headache that night. His attention turns more towards Hayato and he grins some as he starts to go through similar motions with his bata then taps an end of it against his forehead in something of a salute.

He then decides to get a bit more serious as he grips both ends of the bata and he takes a deep breath as he takes something of a defensive stance at least for now. Those hands grip the bata tightly as he seems to be sizing up Hayato. He has heard of the guy and his immense power so Faolan is going to have to be careful here. He just hopes Frei is up to the task in beating down this guy. "All right, fellah. Lets do it."

Not holding back... hoo boy. Frei works day in and day out with Taiyo students, never mind his own personal experience with the Burning Phys Ed Teacher. He knows what Hayato's capable of. But it'll be a good test... and frankly, how bad can it be after being beaten senseless by both Sagat and Takuma lately?

And then Hayato comes in and Frei discovers the answer is: maybe about as bad. Hayato decided to get things moving in a hurry, and Frei doesn't have much time to react to Hayato's sudden assault. Thus he acts mostly on instinct and throws an arm up, the Taiyo teacher's fist slamming into Frei's forearm and careening off to the side... but not after a decidedly bruising impact, first. "You know," he says carefully, "anybody who can put a bamboo shinai through the rigors of hand to hand fighting without having it snap like a twig... you'd think I'd realize the sort of force that someone could put behind an actual PUNCH."

Of course, Frei can't just SIT there and get beat on. So he decides to do something crazy: respond in kind, hopefully before Hayato can get away from him. "Back atcha!" is all he says, before swinging his fist around in a right cross at Hayato's manly, manly jaw. Frei might lack Hayato's overwhelming physical power, but the hazy, barely-visible aura of concussive force surrounding Frei's blow has a power all its own.

How /does/ Hayato keep his shinai from breaking? Usually, anyway. It's probably something to do with chi. He may not throw it around as much as some other people, but the man is definitely overflowing with energy. He also tends not to use it to block attacks, generally preferring his arms. And that's how he blocks Frei's punch, leaning into it and pushing toward the other man to interfere with his recovery. "I kick pretty hard, too!"

And one might think that's a warning to Frei, but in fact Hayato pushes off of him instead of kicking, spinning around as he takes a step toward Faolan and extends his arm, this time using the shinai to extend his reach as he tries to slam the blade into Faolan's head, then step in toward the other man to follow it up with a quick series of slashes to the torso.

Oh lovely, a true powerhouse it would seem. Then again Faolan takes some major beatings at the Ikari base so he shouldn't be worried too much about the abuse he is about to have administered to him. He is just going to have to keep his cool and land strikes when he thinks he sees an opening. He is just going to picture it as if having to beat on Ralf or Clark. Only in this case this guy has extended reach with that shinai. Of course this isn't Faolan's first rodeo and two can play the game of weapon fighting.

He releases one end of his bata and he wields the stick to bring it up and block the incoming strike. He grunts and grits his teeth even as he grins. "Not bad. I'll try to make sure I am not a bore as well." he tells the other fighter and he quickly steps forward in an attempt to slam his shoulder into Hayato with the hope of knocking the man somewhat off balance so he can just follow it up with a nice headbutt to the face. It is the proper way to say hi!

That actually gets a laugh from Frei, even as the redhead is forced back a step from Hayato, bringing his hand back before it's open to being, say, snagged. Plus punching Hayato is a bit like punching a brick wall. A fighter can do it, might even do some damage, but lord it kinda stings after. Despite himself, he's having fun. Faolan's comment makes him glance off to the side to the Irishman, but he shakes his head at what the Ikari says. "Hey, I've been on the receiving end of your attacks. I don't think you have anything to worry about." That much is totally sincere. Both Nahid and Faolan acquitted themselves admirably considering the situation up there. Hayato might be a bit tougher than Frei, but that doesn't mean much in the long run.

Tracing the line of Faolan's attack with his gaze, Frei hmmms in the back of his throat, shaking out one hand at his side, which glows with a purple-black aura of inky darkness. He then takes off running, looking to head more toward where Faolan might hit Hayato *toward* than anything else; regardless, once Frei gets near to the Taiyo teacher, he reaches out to snag Hayato's 'sword arm', twisting it behind his back in an arm bar before pressing that dark aura into the small of the man's back... the entire thing giving a decidedly cold, numbing feeling if it connects.

The shinai may have been stopped, but the contact with Faolan's weapon gives Hayato a bit of distance from the other fighter. Enough time to figure out what's happening when Faolan steps toward him, and quickly hop back before the shoulder charge can connect with him. That still leaves Frei coming up from the other side, though.

Hayato's eyes dart to the side, but he doesn't actually turn around. Instead he waits for Frei to make the grab, then suddenly slips aside, stepping backwards right past as Frei lunges forward. This is a particularly good position, so Hayato doesn't waste time with talking before attempting to drop a hammer fist on the back of Frei's head. Afterwards it's fine to talk, though. "Oh, I don't think this will be boring at all!"

Damn, strong and fast. That is always a deadly combo. Faolan staggers a bit, but quickly regains his footing so not to land flat on his face and look like a complete arse in front of the entire crowd. He hehs a bit at Frei's comment and nods. "We'll see. This sure beats fighting witches with crazy schoolkids." he comments. Or being hunted down by creepy emo girls like Miu. That wasn't too fun either. He seems to at least to be enjoying himself right now even if Hayato seems to be easily avoiding the strikes of both fighters for now.

Faolan just presses the attack to keep Hayato on his toes if he can help it. He tries to keep on one side so Frei can come in at the other and they can attempt to at least keep Hayato between them. He thinks he sees something of an opening when Hayato goes for Frei and the Irishman is quick to close the distance and bring his bata about to slam into the hip of Hayato.

Rather entertainingly, Frei then moves *forward* just as Hayato moves *backward*. The result is that the teacher and the chi sage sort of dance around each other in a half circle for a moment before Frei himself steps back, ducking out of the way of what almost certainly would have been a very nasty hit on the head. "Glad you're entertained," he says to Hayato with a faint smirk, taking a deep breath and slipping his hand onto the 'hilt' of his wooden sword for a moment, judging how best to handle this situation. He also takes a moment to grin at Faolan. "I see you've met Naerose," he offers carefully, before considering 'crazy schoolkids' and tacking on: "...and any of a number of Southtown's finest." Really, 'crazy schoolkids' could be ANYBODY in this town.

Hmmm. "Shinai, bokken, and a shill... no, you said 'bata' last time," Frei observes. Three wooden weapons. If he were superstitious, he'd be using the chi of Metal and Fire this whole fight. After all, that's the 'destruction' and 'consumption' cycle of the five elements. Metal fells Wood, Fire consumes it. Instead, however, he rushes Hayato, a flurry of ice daggers swarming the air in front of him as he gets close. A few of them might hit the teacher, but it becomes clear, once Frei suddenly draws the wooden sword -- rimed with blue-white chi frost -- and cuts through the swarm with a slice toward Hayato's midsection, that they're merely a distraction.

A pained expression crosses Hayato's face as Faolan's bata impacts his hip with the solid thunk of wood on bone. The teacher's leg almost buckles for a moment, but he manages to remain standing. Unfortunately, that moment is one that Hayato needed. He's too late to react as the ice blades reach him. He does manage to swat most of them aside, taking superficial cuts to his arm, but he doesn't have time to do that /and/ avoid taking the bokken across the stomach. "Oof!"

Hayato takes a step back, then draws in a breath. "Heh, there we go! Keep it up!" Of course, he doesn't appear inclined to make it easy for them to do so. He lunges toward Frei, attempting to grab the other man by the shirt while driving a fist into his stomach. Then continuing the punch and pulling back on the shirt to flip Frei right up and over his shoulder, leaving Hayato to spin around and be able to face both his opponents at the same time.

"Ya can call it either. I just prefer to use what my dad called it." the Irishman tells Frei while feeling said bata impacting against Hayato. There, now he knows he can hit the man, but damned if it wasn't like hitting a wall with his bata. A more normal weapon probably would have shattered from the strike, but it seems like good old woodworking combined with a bit of chi flowing through the bata to help keep it together saves the day again.

It also seems Hayato is being rather persistent in going after Frei which isn't a bad thing. Faolan at least knows his partner can actually take alot of punishment despite looking so fragile. That is a good thing because he rather not see Frei get folded in half tonight. In fact he rather not be folded in half either. With Hayato's attention diverted again Faolan decides to step forward. This time thrusting one end of his bata solidly into the other fighter's back as bits of chi streak from his his hands and into the end to send an additional shock upon impact.

Or in this case...no chi. Oh Fao. Learn to charge up, fellah.

Hayato powers right on through the strikes sent his way, surging back from Frei's frosty attack to drive a fist right into Frei's stomach painfully, causing the redhead to exhale sharply. That hurt... even if the technique isn't finished yet, a partial hit from Hayato is more than many lesser fighters can manage. However, when he comes up to grab Frei's shirt, the Burning Phys Ed Teacher may find that he's in for more than he bargained for: the YFCC instructor is smiling, and Hayato might notice that the frost in the air from the last attack is actually still floating around the two clinched fighters like a sort of blue-white halo. With a grin, Frei brings up his free hand and snaps his fingers, stating: "...caughtcha!"

And then, for the briefest of moments, Hayato is just frozen solid.

It's a bit like the sort of thing Kula Diamond might do, though the difference between the former NESTS ice maiden's level of power and control with her chilly powers is considerably greater than Frei's. Still, the sword-sage manages to effectively flash-freeze the air around Hayato, the air swirling with ice as Frei retreats to a safe distant. Created by chi, in a warm room, it lasts maybe a second, possibly less considering the nature of Hayato's burning spirit. But it's enough!

Being frozen is not fun at all. But at least there's one small upside in this particular situation. Hayato's body is still in position for a lunge, so when he finally manages to break free from the ice he staggers forward several steps, giving him enough distance from Faolan to take another few steps and get out of the way before the bata can be driven into his back.

The fight is going downhill pretty quickly, but Hayato's not one to get discouraged. His time is better spent doing other things, like taking a step back toward Faolan, planting one foot and pivoting about to bring his other leg swinging around for a kick to the side of Faolan's head.

So much for the element of surprise. He even thought he had extra luck in the case Hayato was frozen on top of it all! Somehow fate works against him and the teacher is staggering away just in time to avoid that blow which causes the Irishman to let out a light 'tsk' as he regains his footing and holds back from rushing after. Not like it needs to be done since it seems Hayato remembers where Faolan has been and aims to take his head right off.

There is a grunt and he manages to raise his bata to take most of the impact, but that kick is a massive one that makes him stagger back several steps and makes his arms sore just from the impact. He is rather glad he didn't take the full force of that blow. "Still pretty spry despite being frozen." he chuckles and he keeps his distance. Instead he opts to let his energy start to filter towards one tip of his bata as a small black mass crackles about and forms into a small ball. Faolan quickly thrusts forward and sends that small ball hurtling right towards Hayato in hopes of it hitting the teacher and giving him a nice shock.

Taking a deep breath, Frei gets a second or two to observe the fight... and notices that despite Faolan putting up an effective defense, that kick of Hayato's really looks like it stung ANYWAY. "Well," the redhead says, blinking a little bit, "I suppose he did warn us." It's true; read back and look. Regardless, Frei really doesn't want to just leave Faolan in there battling Hayato all on his lonesome, and so despite wanting to extend this little break in action enough to catch his breath, he decides to be a good teammate and help Faolan out. What to do, though?

Well, sometimes the classics are always best. Running alongside that sphere of crackling black energy -- which, as a scholar, Frei can't help but turn and look at with an expression of curiosity, one Faolan might remember from before -- he tries to attack with it simultaneously, pivoting and then delivering his own nice, high kick toward Hayato's shoulder, foot trailing a crescent of scarlet flame in its wake as well.

Fighting somebody armed with a stick, Hayato wasn't really expecting a ranged attack. Foolish of him, really. Heck, Faolan could even have thrown the thing. Maybe it has a string on it. Who knows? Fighters can be pretty crazy. At any rate, it means he's not prepared for the ball of chi that races over and zaps him.

It's momentarily disorienting, but unfortunately for Frei it's not a very long moment. Hayato's arm swings up, braced firmly in place to stop Frei's foot before it can connect. Some might find the burning foot that close to them to be a bit unsettling, but Hayato's got other things to think about. Frei does as well, since he's got a good view of Hayato pushing in, his free hand already launching in toward Frei's face as he stops the leg.

Throw his stick!? Perish the thought. The bata is like a family member to Faolan and he wouldn't do such a thing. Even though the string idea isn't a bad one. Too bad he is not one that can read minds. Instead he just has to be pleased with the result that he managed to catch the other fighter off guard with such a strike. It seems unfortunantly that Frei is not as lucky as Faolan in this case. The Irishman winces some as he watches his partner get clobbered. "I guess that is one way to take one for the team..."

Even so he can't hesitate now. If they give Hayato time to recover it might be hard to pull off any sort of victory. He closes the distance between himself and Hayato and instead of going high like he has been for the most part, he takes a low swing, one that he intends to drive into the back of Hayato's legs if he can and then try to sweep the legs out from under him.

Well, a nice big circular kick is a risky thing, that's clear, and Hayato takes advantage of Frei's gamble and wins that bet, hands down; Frei gives a little helpless grimace when he realizes his kick's been caught and then Hayato's fist makes contact with said grimace, knocking him clear across the arena. When the redhead finally rolls to his feet, he looks just a wee bit groggy. "Ugh... shoulda known that would happen. Agh, my head..."

Well, he took one for the team, and now it's his turn to take one for himself. Shaking out the dizziness that blow caused, Frei takes a deep breath and centers himself, briefly surrounded by a sudden but gentle burst of wind as he attunes himself to the chi around him, preparing for something big and nasty, possibly. "I don't recommend that," he says to Faolan, distantly. "It stings."

Hayato's a pretty tough guy, but there are principles of leverage at work here. The bata slams into the back of his leg, driving his knee forward and throwing his balance off. And that's enough for Faolan to sweep the teacher's legs out from under him, sending him crashing down on his back, and giving Frei a chance to regroup.

It doesn't to slow Hayato down for long, though. He quickly does a kip-up, bounding back to his feet and grinning at Faolan. "Not bad, but you'll need to try a bit harder to keep me down!" And then he steps in toward the other man, bringing his fist up in a long arc. The wind up means it's not hard to see coming, but it has a certain inevitability to it as it swings up toward Faolan's jaw, like it won't be stopping just because some flesh and bone gets in the way.

The Irishman gives a helpless shrug as he watches Hayato quickly get back to his feet. "Didn't think it would put ya down, but it is easier to hit ya if you stay on the ground." he comments. He also seems to be less in the mood of remaining in a defensive posture at the moment and he seems to have the adrenaline kicking in. He sets his jaw firm and he actually takes that strike right to the face and despite bracing for it the blow is enough to send him staggering off to the side and leaving Faolan off balance for a few moments.

He rubs where he was struck with a hand as his other hand idly twirls the bata about. Orbs of energy like earlier are forming as he does so. "Just to show ya I ain't too easy to keep down either, fellah." he says with a chuckle. There is about seven of those orbs total and when he grips his bata and thrusts it forward it sends them all towards Hayato. Of course once they get near him they all decide to merge together and grow into a giant black ball of crackling energy that looks to plow right into the teacher.

Hmm. Well, if Faolan's going to use the POWERS OF DARKNESS (or more accurately, the powers that look dark), then perhaps it's up to Frei to counterbalance the situation by using the POWERS OF LIGHT (or at least very bright powers). Seven orbs of darkness... for a moment, the chi sage even considers that there are seven points of light in this very technique, too.

Strange how that works.

Holding out his hand palm up, seven small orbs of white radiance swirl into being in Frei's palm, before he sends them flying toward Hayato with a flick of the wrist. The tiny star-mote-things fly through the air before Frei makes a downward sweep of the hand, sending them... into the floor? Of course, that's just a preamble; he then drags his hand upward and clenches it into a fist, at which point he glances at Faolan, then at Hayato, saying: "Consider this a token of our respect, Sensei."

Then the motes erupt from the floor as pillars, a line of columns of blinding radiance looking to engulf Hayato in tune with that crackling ball of black energy.

Looks like the check for the special effects budget cleared. Black and white balls of light are flying toward Hayato from all over the place, and none of them look very pleasant to get hit with. Looking for an escape path, Hayato suddenly lunges right toward the cloud of energy spheres flying toward him from Faolan's direction. And as they're coming together he actually leaps through them, passing by just before they merge together, almost catching his feet.

The teach hits the ground rolling and springs to his feet, screeching to a stop just as a pillar of white light erupts from the ground in front of him. He pivots about, trying to leap off to the side, but then the /next/ pillar of light catches him, and then Frei's pretty much got Hayato right where he wants him. The teacher gets juggled by a series of explosions from the ground before eventually falling down in a heap.

After a moment he stirs, then starts climbing back to his feet. "Damn... that was almost pretty cool." He chuckles, then finishes dragging himself up. "Pretty good, guys!" And then he's moving again, charging toward Frei like a freight train, while blazing orange chi flares up around his right fist, going to a white intensity at the center. And then he tries to smash Frei with it, focusing on power rather than fine aim. Face, chest, hey it's all good!

Well if anything it seems like his attack did seem to help distract Hayato enough for Frei to get a nice hit in. The teacher looks to still be going pretty strong though. That man certainly has alot of endurance from the looks of it. He is starting to wonder if he has enough left in the tank to even take this guy down. He isn't sure how much Frei has left in him either for that matter. "Better than dealing with the Kusanagi nitwit I bet." he tells Hayato with a grin.

Of course when he is saying that he is already moving forward. He is raising his bata high again and he he brings it downwards aimed right on top of the teacher's head. "But I gotta wonder just what you have left in ya, fellah. Don't overdo it." Yeah, right.

COMBATSYS: Frei fails to interrupt Burning Cross Counter from Hayato with Shindou.

Two things happen:

1.) Frei braces himself and, when Hayato's fist comes for him, manages to actually get a grip on it with both hands!
2.) This fails to slow Hayato's punch in any way whatsoever.

The NEXT thing that happens is that Hayato hits Frei hard. REALLY hard. The YFCC instructor might be tough to kill but that's more willpower and resilience than physical meatiness. He weighs practically nothing and thus Hayato's monstrously powerful single blow sends the red-haired fighter quite literally spiralling through the air to land right on top of some poor spectator's table. They at least know to get the [eff!] out of the way before he comes in for a landing, but that par-TIC-ular table is probably not good for much at this point.

To his credit, a moment later Frei emerges from the wreckage, dusting himself off. Yeah, that's gonna bruise later... but all things considered that could have turned out far more to the bad than it actually did. "Note to self," he says out loud, climbing back into the ring. "Attempts to stop freight train with bare hands have failed. Next time, try something more substantial, like a building or a mountain."

Hayato stands there for a moment after sending Frei flying. He is getting a bit tired, but that's not the sort of thing he likes to share with people. And he certainly won't complain about it. He's still having fun! But while Frei is extricating himself from a table, there's still Faolan to worry about. He turns to face the Irishman and chuckles. "Yeah, Kusanagi is pretty rough to deal with."

And then Faolan is running at him. The bata comes up, but at the same time Hayato twists his body and his leg lashes out. A brightly glowing foot slams into Faolan's chest, while the bata glances off the side of Hayato's shoulder as he continues turning his body for maximum force of impact with his foot. "Oh, don't worry, I've got plenty left!"

There is a wince that Faolan gives when he sees Frei going flying. Of course he gets to experience the power of flight himself very soon. He feels that foot plant hard against his chest and the Ikari loses his footing and goes flying away and crowd people scatter as he ends up behing the bar where there is the sound of glasses and such breaking. That might just be his spine making that shattering noise as well. Who knows!

Needless to say he is slow to get up and he clambers over the bar and almost slumps forward to land flat on his face. He manages to keep his footing and he shakes his head to try to clear the cobwebs. "Guh...." is all he manages to say and he seems to be foolish enough to stagger right for Hayato again. This time just a simple thrust he uses to push the tip of his bata into the teacher and do what he intended to do last time. To give the man a nice shock as the energy gathered into the bata is released. Bzzt.

"He's not so bad," Frei says, surprising even himself to hear it. Still, it's not exactly false. Kusanagi can be a little obnoxious, nobody's denying that. "There are worse things than being obnoxious," Frei observes, wincing as he sees Faolan... uh, basically go sailing even farther than he did. Turning back to Hayato, he scratches a finger against his cheek, trying to fight down his fatigue and aches in order to keep the fight going. "At least he's not a strong fighter and a total sociopath. I mean, he'll grow out of it someday, you'd think. Right? Guy can't be more than 17 years old."

And suddenly, Frei's stance on Kyo Kusanagi makes a lot more sense.

Hopefully Faolan can finish his shocking technique, because it might give Frei the opening he needs... regardless, the YFCC instructor charges the Burning Teacher, gathering a tiny tempest of wind chi in his left hand even as his right looks to grab Hayato. If Frei can get his grip, he plants his foot, pivots, and attempts to wing Hayato sideways... and if THAT happens, he thrusts out his other hand and lets that wind burst outward to give the Taiyo instructor his own little flight.

Hayato may be pretty battered, but his legs are still working. He eyes Faolan carefully, waiting for the strike he knows is coming. And when it does he quickly leaps aside, deftly avoiding the shock. Unfortunately, while he's attempting to pivot, Frei manages to get a grip on him. And the direction Hayato is moving in works out pretty well for the younger man. Of course, the wind chi certainly helps things along, as Hayato goes flying and rolls for a bit after finally hitting the floor.

The teacher shoves himself back to his feet with a grunt, still with a grin on his face. "Pretty good, pretty good. Hope you've both still got some more, though!" And then he's charging back toward Frei, with an only slightly unsteady start. As he draws close he lashes out with his shinai, bringing it swinging down toward Frei's collarbone.

In all honesty Faolan isn't sure just how much more he has left in him. Damned if he is going to say anything about the fact his whole body is screaming for a break and some ice. Maybe he should ask Frei to freeze him for awhile after all this is said and done. Nah, probably not a good idea, that. "Got enough for now. That is all that matters." ends up being the response he gives and he is just becoming slower all the time as he stalks after Hayato. He isn't sure if he can put much power into his strikes at this point even if he does hit.

He keeps trudging forward, though. He closes the distance once again and if anything he attempts to be enough of a destraction so Frei can get a strike in again and perhaps finally take the big man down. He starts to look like he is about to swing once again with that bata, but instead he swings to where he will wiff and then pivot on one foot and deliver a swift kick, something he rarely does since he prefers to keep both feet on the ground whenever possible.

Parry! Thrust! HaHA!

Sadly, when Frei decides to get all swordsman-y as Hayato attacks him with the shinai, it ends up being less Errol Flynn and more Duck Amok than anything else. There's a surge of that purple-black chi from before around the bokken slipped through Frei's back belt loops, and the redhead grins wildly at Hayato, actually dashing *toward* him, hand dropping down to grip the hilt. The crowd's collective breath is drawn in as Taiyo teacher and YFCC instructor effectively Ninja Gaiden cutscene toward each other. There's a slash from both sides! It's hard to see the exact outcome as they dash past each other! Don't ask why, it's dramatically appropriate!

And then, the two having exchanged positions, Hayato is left relatively unharmed while Frei slumps forward, driving the point of the bokken into the stage to keep from just collapsing right then and there.

"Oh man..." he mutters, hanging on to being able to fight at all by a thread, "I really hope Mom wasn't watching that..."

Hayato's not a bad swordsman, when it comes down to it. He may not have the honed skill that a dedicated practitioner has, but he does have kendo experience. And natural physical talent counts for a fair bit, too. Speed, power and reflexes let him defeat Frei's assault, then spin around in time to see the foe slumping forward. And Faolan coming for him.

Hayato moves to meet the opponent, noting the muscle movements as Faolan starts to pivot and bring his leg up. The teacher swiftly steps to the side without ceasing his forward motion, slipping past the leg and waiting for Faolan to start his recovery. And that's when Hayato strikes, jabbing out at Faolan's stomach with the tip of the shinai, then following that up by closing the distance and grabbing Faolan. From there he brings up a knee for another strike to the midsection before using his grip to hurl the other man to the floor.

COMBATSYS: Faolan interrupts Armed Combo from Hayato with Jig Kick.

This turns into a fine example why the Ikari Warrior often doesn't let one of his feet leave the ground. When he swings and misses like this it leaves him a bit off balance and not really in a good spot to recover fast enough to defend himself. He does his best to recover quickly since Hayato seems ready to come right at him when he notices the opening. Even so that shinai slams into Faolan and knocks him off balance again as he grunts.

That is also when he sees Hayato come in for a followup and he decides to just try one last ditch effort "Fuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuck-" he yells loudly and he swings one leg back as he tries to use the bata to knock away the knee that was going to hit him so he can slam his leg right between both of Hayato's to nail him in the pill box as hard as he can. "-YOU!" He sort of slumps backwards after that. The shinai strike was enough to sap him out of what strength he has left. He hits the floor with a thud and looks up at all the pretty flashing lights. "Dear diary....today was more interesting than I thought...." he mumbles.

So, on the up side, Hayato hit Faolan pretty hard. On the down side: Ow. Ow ow ow. Hayato grimaces, as Faolan falls, taking several staggering steps away with his legs held together in awkward fashion. "Gnng..." He blinks a few times, clearing his watering eyes, and manages to take a breath after a moment and start staggering back toward Frei. His legs don't really want to work too well right now, but his last opponent is right over there!

His progress is awkward and jerky, but he does manage to make it to within shinai range of Frei. At which point he lashes out in a wild strike at Frei's head, follows through too far, and then crashes down to the floor. He doesn't seem to be making an effort to get up.

Well. Fatigue might make Hayato a little clumsier on his final strike, but that doesn't mean that Frei dances out of the way like some sort of red-haired, freckled gazelle. The Burning Phys Ed Teacher comes in with that final little love tap, and Frei basically stumbles backwards out of the way just so that Hayato effectively baseball home slides right to his feet, thoroughly out. There's a moment where Frei struggles and it looks like he's about to keel over himself; apparently he reached deep within his reserves of strength to manage even that clumsy-looking evasion and the threat of just keeling over himself looms.

But he's able to keep upright, earning himself and Faolan the 'official' win... and then he stumbles over and collapses into an empty chair, wiping his sweat from his brow. The other two, well... they appear to be enjoying the sweet sleep of the just. "Hopefully their memories of that last little exchange will be more rosy when they wake up," he murmurs.
