LLK Act III.Revelations - Revelations : Sales Pitch

Description: Ever since his fight with Brian and seeing the logo, Heavy D! has had a thirst for info and an axe to grind when it comes to Shadaloo. Finding a skeleton Shadaloo installation on the outskirts of town, he gives it the business... so the guards call in S.I.N's 'Maya-san', who has an interesting way of dealing with uninvited guests.

Call it luck. Call it fate. Call it chance. Call it something, just don't call it a missed chance, because Heavy D! certainly isn't looking at it that way. His unfamiliarity with the city has caused problems in looking for a pair of certain people he's been hunting for a while (a certain Mr. Battler and a certain Mr. Oe). However, tonight, it seems to give him a boon, as if karma for his inability to find the people he'd been looking for.

Camp. Not a summer camp, or a hiking camp...but a military camp, it seems. What passes for one in this urban setting anyways. One bearing a mark he's seen elsewhere, on Brian's uniform when he attacked Taiyo High: that damn winged skull. "The hell is this?" he whispers to himself, frowning as he looks on, trying to keep hidden...until a few errant guards walk closer to his hiding place. Looks like he stumbled in at the wrong time....just in what way remains to be seen, but the result is one that isn't in dispute.

Once they get close enough to where the big American rests, D! rises up, quickly dispatching them with a lunging left and a chopping right, taking them out with two hard, sharp punches, efficient but hardly silent in the way they crack out. Eyes narrowed, the boxer straightens up, tugging on the hoodie which has usurped his jacket since the hospital incident. "Great..." he mutters, wondering what he should do at this point....bail, or simply try and do as much damage in the camp as he can, before finally bailing...

Things may be coming to a head in Southtown soon, and the various players -- the Syndicate, 'R', NESTS, and particularly Shadaloo and its subordinate arm S.I.N. -- are gearing up for the endgame, or something like it. And not all is peaches and cream within the ranks of Shadaloo, either. Somewhere near this very spot not that long ago, another boxer by the name of Mike Bison called out a certain S.I.N. employee to deliver a message on behalf of Vega: We Know What You Did Last Summer. What is a red-haired double agent to do? The answer is: pretend nothing is wrong. After all, if Vega has a beef with Seth, that's not Viper's problem. She's a contractor.

The problem is, sometimes contractors get saddled with the dirty jobs.

The call came in not but a few minutes ago: some fighter had made an appearance at one of Shadaloo's outlying guard posts, outside the Gedo neighborhood territory that has been -- with some degree of fluctuation -- one of the crime syndicate's strongholds during this whole affair. Understaffed as they are, the Shadaloo guards aren't sure about their ability to handle Heavy D!... and giving ground to a single guy is not an option. Viper herself is sitting languidly in the back of a large van, watching surveillance tapes and sipping a bottle of water, when she hears it over the radio chatter. Switching feeds, she glances at the man in question and narrows her eyes a little. He was the one who had the tiff with the mercenary... the football player they sent in with Oe. Hoho, interesting indeed.

"It's me," she said into the mic, getting out of her chair. "Let me handle it."

A few moments later, the mostly unmarked black sedan pulls up. It's not decorated with the skull and wings of Shadaloo, but the globe and eye of S.I.N. The back door opens and out of it unfolds Viper: tall, businesslike, and totally composed. A pair of black aviator glasses cover her eyes, though she pulls them off as she gets out and strides toward the camp, glancing around at the people who are left. "Some sort of... problem, gentlemen?"

During the time between the radio call informing Viper of what's happening, and her arrival, D!'s already had to deal with quite a few guards. Not all of them neatly dispatched, but many pushed aside and bowled into one another to give D! some room to work. Looking at whatever structures look particularly key and necessary, he quickly sends out one of his well known Blast Uppers, blasting apart the tarp and wall of some barracks set up.

Gritting his teeth, he realizes how reckless this was, even if he had less choice in the matter of getting invovled than he hoped. And when the sedan pulls up, a striking figure stepping out from the car with some sort of authority, his frown only deepens, dark eyes peering over clenched fists set up in his guard, eying the new arrival warily. Nothing said...just...hard eyes, trying to find two things:

1) A way to do further damage to the camp.
2) A way to secure an avenue of escape to avoid getting stuck in bad territory.

A few hands point D!'s way; the guards are really not in any mood to stay, especially once Viper's made her appearance on the scene. To normal Shadaloo grunts, operatives of S.I.N. have a bit of an "MiB" feel; they're strange, operate under different procedures, and most of all have absolutely zero sense of humor. They're not very easy to understand; Vega's immediate subordinates like Balrog, Bison, and Sagat are... eccentric, but in a way that makes a bit of sense. The redheaded double agent's eyes follow the pointing finger of one guard right before he bails, just in time to see D! finish applying carnage and turn his gaze her way. A boxer... familiar, maybe? For a second she tilts her head as she tries to remember if this man has a dossier, perhaps, some sort of research done. He certainly seems to be either very confused or a do-gooder that's regretting his actions.

Either way, she has a job to do.

Hands go into the pockets of Viper's nicely-fitting suit jacket as she walks toward D! with deliberate and purposeful, if not hasty, steps. They come back out holding a pair of black gloves with elaborate silver leads on the knuckles; she snaps them onto one hand, then the other, as she speaks. "AFternoon, there," she begins, finally coming to a stop a good few yards away from D!. "I couldn't help but notice you're destroying our property and encouraging people to desert their posts and you know, as a supervisor, I just don't think you're encouraging a healthy work environment." One of those gloved hands comes up, and Viper clenches it into a fist; on cue, sparks of blue-white electricity dance across her knuckles as the battlesuit kicks on. "I'm afraid I'm going to have to ask you to leave."

Frowning deeper, D! eyes Crimson Viper, not recognizing the agent, but definitely feeling something off about her...and something that gives him pause as he narrows eyes at her. Fists tighten up, feet shifting and turning slightly to dig in a little more into the ground as he tries to hold his ground. Teeth gritted, hidden behind his forearms, he listens as she speaks, tightening fingers against his palm even more.

"...you're talking about this like it's an accounting office," he says rather disdainfully and to the point, saying nothing more and responding only by sinking down a little more, as if a spring coiling tighter in preparation to spring out. The electricity is enough to confirm that she's more than the grunt guards he was working his way through.

"I'll be fine with leaving as long as I know nothing more's coming out of here to screw up the city even more." Well, there goes securing an escape route...

"Business is business," Viper says in response, her voice thick with droll amusement. The fight or flight response being exhibited firsthand... it always makes her day, probably because she's got that instinct honed down to a razor's sharpness, herself. One hand goes to her hip, and her stance looses up; it's a bit like a parent finding a child doing something naughty but not exactly terribly awful. A combination between scolding and amused. "Besides, I know what accountants are like at tax time. Gun-toting guards don't even start to compare in the long run."

Why is he here? That's a good question. This isn't a planned attack, that much is certain; either he was directed here by someone hoping he'd do some damage or it's an honest to god mistake. Either way, he shouldn't be here... but it might be worth pumping him a little to find out which of the two it is. Besides, he sounds like a do-gooding idealist, and Viper really has a fun time toying with THAT sort of person.

"Anyhow, I'm afraid I can't let you keep interfering with our work. And can I just say, for a vigilante patriot strike force protecting Southtown, one guy in a hoodie is pretty sad. Even Mayor Haggar in Metro wore that one suspender."

And then she's ducking across the field, the jets on her boots giving her a burst of thrust that actually makes it look like Viper's gliding across the ground Rock Howard-style, one fist extended and crackling with taser-like electric charge, ready to get stuffed in D!'s face. An opening salvo... let's see what he's got. "Say goodnight!"

When the charging knuckle comes in, D! shores up and tightens his guard, feet and heels digging in harder into the ground to brace for impact, and forearms tensing. When the punch comes, he raises his guard, letting the electric punch slam into his arms and push him back slightly. He feels the crackle and tingle of electricity over his arms, traveling from wrists to elbow to shoulder...but it doesn't seem to worry him.

Relaxing from the shot, he pulls his own arm back, keeping himself planted still as eyes focus on the interestingly dressed agent. No wasted motion as he rolls the shoulder, turns the arm...then twists the body with a sharp swinging uppercut that snaps through the air, a surge of energy following and expanding out like an explosion toward Crimson Viper. It's the same attack that tried to blow down the barracks...who knows how it'll handle a real live Shadaloo agent.

Hmmm. Well, one would expect a boxer to ball his fists and hunker down, naturally. Viper decided on a nice quick, thorough strike up front to test his defenses. They appear to be pretty darned good, for now. In fact he's already quick on the counterattack, and though Viper decides to play it safe, she overcomitted a tiny bit on that first shot. Now, unfortunately, she's paying for it: there's a crackle of blue as the redhead tries to bring up her arm to deflect some of the blast, but she's not quite quick enough. The attack sends her skidding backwards across the dirt a little bit but doesn't knock her over quite yet. When she comes to a stop, Viper shakes out her hand, as if it were a little bit numb.

"Looks like you've got some skills," she says with a faint smile. It's true, no sense in not admitting it. The question is: are they skills S.I.N. is interested in, or skills they're interested in seeing put to rest on a semi-to-permanent basis? One way to find out. "A shame you're throwing them away on pointless and, can I say, *non-paying* work like being a nosy do-gooder." It's true. Doing good things is usually a thankless and, importantly, non-paying job. Why would anyone do it?

Well, besides her.

She doesn't feel like hanging back; instead Viper dives right back into the fray, flexing her fingers as she ducks back toward D!. At first it looks like she's trying to jab a punch right into his stomach, but in fact the real danger of her little maneuver is that she's also swinging her opposite leg around to try and scythe it through D!'s feet, sending the boxer down to the ground admit the debris of his own little anti-Shadaloo crusade.

D! doesn't answer. He's...never been that much of a talkative sort in a fight unless he's really trying to get a point in. And tonight...well, point is to survive and to damage. And neither of those really require much chattiness on his part, despite the prodding comments by VIper.

Pulling his arm back in, he gets set to prepare for Viper's next move...and his guard redirects toward his stomach predictably when the feint jab comes in. However, when the leg moves in to sweep in and knock him off his feet, D! doesn't stop it. He knows it's too late to stop the hooking trip...so instead, he tries to use it, turning to fall on his side rather than his back. As he falls, he pulls his arm up, the one highest as he falls, hooking down with a punch right onto Viper's collarbone as he drops in hopes of doing some damage, either to her whole arm, or at least whatever she uses to intercept it.

Ah, now there's some of the pepper. Had the feint worked, so much the better; if it didn't, though, Viper had a backup plan for just such an emergency. This is far and away the double agent's style at work: be prepared for every contingency. One such contingency is D! deciding he wants to get fancy. Thus when he starts letting himself fall, he may be surprised to find that Viper herself is falling with him. The arm she feinted with suddenly comes up and bends at the elbow. "Gotcha," the redhead says with a faint smile. She can't stop D!'s sudden counterattack; that would require bending space and time and she's not Seth or Vega, unfortunately. The boxer's blow was intended for her soft meats in the collarbone area, though, and instead finds the suit-clad fighter's side where her neck was SUPPOSED to be. Twisting just so, she manages to turn a crushing blow into something a little more managable. Meanwhile, her controlled fall finishes as she drives that elbow into D! from above with all the inertia she's got.

Rolling off to the side, Viper gets to her feet and dusts herself off; she doesn't look much different, continuing to smile her self-confident little smirk and give D! the once over. Her stance remains loose; her fists come up at about chest-height, in something not quite like a boxer's stance but perhaps close enough to be making fun of a real boxer, maybe. "We don't HAVE to do this, you know. You can still back on out of here and we'll call it a day."

D! definitely didn't expect that. As he falls for the attempted hook, he finds himself falling not at Viper, but with her...and the punch finds an unwanted target, doing nowhere near the damage he was hoping for and instead getting a sharp elbow straight into his sternum, all of the redhead's weight put into the strike. "NGhhhhnn...."

Gritting his teeth, D! rolls away, worse for the wear than Viper is as he pulls back, teeth gritted. "Nnn..." She gives him an out, if he so wishes....but somehow, this feels less like generosity, and more like either pity or contempt for him. And considering who she works for...he's not sure this is something he can take up on face value. So he answers the only way he can at this point...

Charging forward, he drives out with a hard, straight right, aimed straight for her sternum in return (the tie makes for a good target marker after all), hoping to give quite the punctuated reply. Actions speak louder, and all that.

HeavyD           0/-------/=======|=====--\-------\0          C.Viper

Sadly, D!'s sentence ends with an ellipsis instead of... well, an exclamation point. The punch is a nice, strong blow; D! really knows how to put force behind his strikes, after all. But Viper is... well, Viper is *cheating*. As the fist sails toward her, the double agent merely smiles with her typical detached sangfroid and hops back. *Normally* this wouldn't even come close to clearing D!'s reach, but he might notice that from the heels of her heeled boots there's twin bursts of what looks like controlled white steam... and instead of a short hop, Viper's movement becomes an impressive backwards, low-angle jump that lands her in a crouch a good safe distance away. "Whoa there, tiger," she says as she gets to her feet, raising an eyebrow at D!. "Make sure you understand what you're getting into before you go whole-hog."

Can he be won over? He doesn't seem the talkative type and, in Maya's experience, keeping them distracted with conversation is a perfectly viable tactic. She doesn't attack; instead she watches carefully, taking the measure of his moves and keeping her options open. "There's another alternative, of course. You could work off the damages. We're actually quite reasonable employers if you keep your head down and work efficiently," Viper says with a faint grin. "We could use someone with your talents. And it pays well besides."

COMBATSYS: C.Viper focuses on her next action.

Tch....tricky, technology-fed fighting style it seems, if the bursts of steam were any indication. Looks like that electricity wasn't the natural sort. Which is a problem, considernig how much he put behind that big punch. Narrowing his eyes, D! looks on at the opponent before him, frowning even more as he renews his guard.

And that way out? The catch he knew was coming is there. And he's not about to make any deal with the devil at this point, not knowing what kind of things this brand is up to exactly. Less ethics than a Kathie Lee Gifford clothing line....D! answers again with his actions, which is to...well, keep standing before the woman, using her time to speak to catch a quick breather and get his rhythm back.

COMBATSYS: HeavyD gains composure.

Hmm. "Still not convinced? Let me give you a little advice," Viper says, shaking out her hands and watching D! warily for a moment. He could be gearing up for another big assault, or he could be prepping to run. Either way, not outcomes Viper herself has investment in. She's either got to find out what he's doing here or convince him to come in. She can't have vigilantes running around Southtown any more than normal... her work keeping her cover intact and doing the best she can just requires too much damn effort, and the more justice-crazed putzes there are looking to protect 'innocents', the harder and harder it gets. Your average vigilante, to use Haggar and Cody as examples, is about as subtle as a hammer.

Maya, on the other hand, knows even a hammer can be used as a scalpel if you do it right.

"If you really feel like trying to take stuff like this down, wandering around like you're in Escape from New York isn't the way to do it. You know what the difference between us is, there? You're out here alone, you don't know what to do... I, on the other hand, have backing. Surveillance. Tools and people. It's pretty much the only way to get anything done nowadays." As she says 'tools', however, a hand comes up; the silver leads crackle with electricity... and then just as suddenly she's trying to clear the distance between herself and D!, trying to get a good grip around the boxer's throat before applying some of that shocking power and then tossing him aside, aiding his flight with a well-placed kick.

The hand grabbing for his throat is caught on his arm however, the shock doing what it can, but not nearly as harsh as if it was at his neck. Gritting his teeth, the other hand catches the kick before it can snal him in the side, tossed aside but keeping his feet beneath him and on the ground. "GGhhh..." D!'s hardly a vigilante, or at least normally wouldn't consider himself so. But he's seen this crap happen before in a city...and if it's screwing up friends, or friends of friends...well, his fists have to do something.

And what they do right now is use his relative range to try and get in a few pointed shots, keeping his silent and strong image intact as he wings two quick body shots toward Viper's ribs before trying to punctuate the combo with a couple sharp right jabs to the face.

Determined he might be, but Maya never goes into a scuffle without a contingency plan. Even as she pulls back from the chokehold, the redhead's hand is dropping down toward her foot, specifically her heel. She intends to give D! some of the medicine she gave Mike Bison near this very spot, but apparently it's not meant to be a second time; the first blow tags her in the ribs with considerably more than bruising force. However, with speed that is nothing short of miraculous, the rest of the blows don't look like they're hitting home. Spun back by the force of the first blow, Viper nevertheless suddenly snaps up a hand so that the followup strikes in that combination slam into her own knuckles, a sort of punching deflection, that gives the SIN agent time to duck back and catch her breath. That could have been very, very bad... but she's also unlikely to pull a miracle defense at the last second like that a second time.

Standing up, she gives the boxer an appraising look. "Not bad, I'll grant you that, but your heart's not in it. Want to bail while you still have the chance?"

He felt the first strike to the ribs...but Viper's evasion keeps the rest of his shots and the follow-up jabs from scoring, giving him a little bit of frustration. Teeth gritting a little, he pulls back a step, trying to re-evaluate the situation.

This isn't to say that he's about to give thought to the redhead's offer. He has principles, you know. He's gauging the fight, because damned if he's not going away without one. Nope. "I"ve got friends on the line in all of this...no backing down," He finally speaks to her, shaking his head...before shooting in, trying to take her by surprise with a quick step in and a hard, twisting hook set straight to her temple.

Not exactly Viper's day on the defensive, is it? Perhaps she goaded D! a little too far. Regardless of that, she's getting what she wants out of this little tete-a-tete: a read on the boxer's abilities. Setting her jaw, the redhead attempts another deflection of his punch, but there's a bit too much stopping power behind it, unfortunately; she doesn't quite get it and the boxer's fist meets with the top of her head in a nice, bruising arc. The force of the blow sends her back across the uneven dirt in a slide, trackmarks of her heeled battlesuit boots left behind her. That stung a little bit, but hey. They can't all be winners, right?

"Really?" Viper asks, all innocent curiosity. "You mean the bruiser with the bad attitude and big hamhock hands? Or maybe that brat from one of the local schools with the toy stick?" Brian and Ichiro. Well, she clearly knows about that fight, for sure. But to what end is she bringing it up? To unsettle him, or to make a point? Either way, she finishes her thought as she suddenly kicks off the ground, heading toward D! at speed. "Either way, looks like you're doing it for friends that aren't here." Once she gets in close the SIN operative looks to actually breeze *by* D! with that sudden burst of speed, gripping him by the arm and using her sudden run to hurl him into the distance once she's got a nice good grip.

D! continues the silent treatment after finally voicing himself...but this time, his actions don't speak well, as when Viper comes in to try and blow by the boxer to grab him...she...well, she moves fast enough that despite his attempt to intercept her, he finds himself grabbed before he can get his punch to full extension. And with that speed...well, he's thrown quite damn well, rolling and skidding across the ground into a hard set of barrels that nearly topple over him as he collides back first into them with a ground. "Uhhhnnnhghhh...." So much for that idea...

She cuts a surprisingly imposing figure, standing as she is in the dust cloud that little exchange kicked up. Having come to a halt, Viper looks down at where D! has landed, once again tightening her gloves with a look of dispassionate detachment. And it's not exactly feigned, either; to Maya, this is just another job, and it's not exactly one she revels in. Making sure the battlesuit works as intended... making sure that the fighters she faces are given the information they need and nothing more than that. To her, it's all business, all the time. She doesn't have anything against D!... but he picked the fight with S.I.N., and it's her job to see it through.

Lucky him it's her. Another Shadaloo op might not be so... gentle.

"Well," she says at last, bringing her hands up and balling them into fists. "I tried to do it the easy way. Only got yourself to blame now, from this point on." Snap! Snap! go the wrists on her gloves, and her hands come back down, crackling not only with blue sparks of electricity but some sort of hazy aura of force as well. She's studied D!... she knows how he fights, now. How he moves, what he likes to do. She's relatively sure she's got this all worked out. All she needs to do now is take the fight out of him.

In a black and silver blur, she moves.

The strike is deceptively simple: two body slows with those battlesuit-empowered punches to soften him up, before she ducks low and taps her heel... then flips upward in a single, punishing crescent kick accompanied by the jet boots' thrusters on full fire... the result being a massive bloom of real, non-chi, scorching flame to accompany it.

Well, hell.

D!'s barely getting himself out of the barrels and back up to his feet before Viper's on him again. And this time...well, he has no answer. The heavy body shots rock him in the ribs, battering him...and the flipping kick upward sends him skyward, flipping end over end and scorching his hoodie something nasty. THe landing his summarily nasty, flat on his face in a way that makes it seem like he's out for the count.

...well, it would if his right fist didn't start glowing, even before he started to stir again. The glow reaches mid-forearm as D! finally comes up to a crouch. "...not....done...yet..." he grunts...before he forces himself to stand, hwoever unsteadily, body twisting as his right arm lanches out and thrusts out a deadly, full body punch, chi exploding out like a cannon shell toward Viper outward.

It's not easy, but she sure makes it LOOK easy. Heroic types usually have a 'save the best for last' mentality, in Viper's experience; it is a defiant last stand, a show of strength and determination. Psychologically, it's a perfectly valid way to go about things. On the other hand, it can also be highly predictable... and in this case, Viper is all but sure she's pushed D! to his point of heroic explosion. As she lands from the upward-scything crescent kick, flickers of fire dancing at her heels, she knows she not only needs to make the absolute most of her next defensive effort, but that she needs to make it psychologically *devastating*. She needs to drive the point home. And so every fiber of her being, every ounce of alertness and speed she can wring out of her body, goes into this:

She leans to the side.

The attack -- an attack of such ferocity it would likely have shattered the fight from Viper then and there -- shears by her body by mere centimeters; the chi makes the unfastened blazer coat whip around as if in a gale, but despite D!'s best efforts, what he sees as he tries to connect is Viper smiling at him as he passes her by. It wasn't easy; it was at least 50% luck. But it does what she wanted it to do.

She takes every advantage of this situation, looking to meet D! just as he finishes his attack and turns to see his attacker: her face, drawn with icy calmness, as Maya simply responds: "Oh, no... believe me, you're done," before driving her palm forward toward D!'s chin, looking to deliver the finishing blow in one shot.

And break him it does. Seeing his Magnum dodged so....effortlessly, so easily, it causes the boxer's eyes to widen. Just the exact reaction Viper was looking for. He doesn't say it, but his eyes tell the whole story of shock. And when Viper comes in, trying to finish him with the strike to the chin, his shock is enough that he's off guard and goes hastily for an attack....

That never happens, the disabling palm strike to his chin rattling his brain and sending him falling backwards in a heap...the only thought going through his head as he drops into unconsciousness?

Too weak....still too damn weak to do anything...

For a moment, the two fighters are in tableau; D! falling to the ground while Viper does her best to look unconcerned. He's tough... very tough. The SIN operative half expects him to get back up and keep going, all things considered. When she realizes he won't, she gives in to the aches and deep pains all over her torso and neckline from D!'s numerous fierce punches. That was close... a little too close, and a little too reminiscent of her fight with Bison. The redhead makes a note to re-study some videos of boxers at work. The style is proving pretty effective.

For a moment, she looks down and seems to consider taking D! with her. Seth would certainly be happy for yet another test subject, especially since two of his so far appear to have gone missing, and D! clearly has some sort of connection to the third, even if it's only acquaintance. However, eventually she shakes her head and turns away.

Getting in the door of the sedan, she glances back at D!'s resting place. One of the guards, a SIN bodyguard in a spotless black suit, glances at her in confusion. "Aren't you going to do something about him?"

A shake of the head as she finds her aviator glasses and puts them back on. "No. This camp's a writeoff anyway. Find those cowardly bastards who ran off and ship them north to Gedo Street. We're done here."

Did she just buy D! some time to recover and leave safely? Perhaps.

The sedan drives off into the afternoon sun.
