After the war ended, Vietnam was in shambles. But the time since then has not been spent with people resting on their laurels. The country is now beautiful, if still eminently rural. The villages have been rebuilt from multiple bombings, the roads reconstructed, if still only in dirt. Only the major cities have anything resembling true industry. The surrounding countryside, despite the slash and burn proceedures of the United States, have once again grown into lush, green fields, teeming with life.

But all that beauty still contains danger. To say nothing of the venomous insects and harmful wildlife in the jungles of Vietnam, there are still remnants of the war. Landmines placed over thirty years ago, and never triggered or found, still waiting for a forgotten enemy to step on them. Unexploded bombs thought duds remain in the fields where the bombers dropped them. There is danger here in the jungle... and the Saturday Night Fighters were going to be right in the thick of it.

A clearing had been chosen for the fighting arena, settled at the base of a large mountain along what was once known as the Ho Chi Mihn Trail. A ridge, over 300 yards away, provides a bird's eye view of the clearing, which is otherwise bordered on the other sides by trees. Other trees dot the clearing, so it's less of a 'lack trees' so much as 'less trees', which is just enough for camera crews (as well as snipers getting into position) to get some good shots.

And here is Saint, stepping off the armored van used to transport him, the crew, and likely one or two of the other fighters. The man, dressed in his usual white coat and black priest's clothes, only has one thing to say as he steps off the truck.

"Goooooooooood morning VIETNAM!"

The priest throws his hands into the air, looking absolutely ecstatic over being here. "This is SUCH a lovely country! One can hardly tell there has been a war here. Yes, yes, such a beautiful countryside, such beautiful cities, and such beautiful PEOPLE!" The Romanian cries, his youthful if sickly-thin face looking for all the world happy and joyous, even if his too-narrow eyes prevent one from looking into them directly. "Ah, ah, forgive me. Um..." he fishes a pocketbook out of his coat pocket, and turns to the driver, flipping through the little book. "<Thank you... for ride>," Saint says in bad Vietnamese, but the driver seems to understand, nodding and smiling. Saint moves out to the middle of the clearing, cane in tow.

Vietnam?

Well, Nagare thought he had signed up for the Olympics! Well, this certainly wasn't the Olympics, that was for sure. Stepping off of the armored van directly after Saint. He's happy to see tha man so ecstatic! But there is just something about him that really doesn't seem right about him. Well, it'

Ah... memories.

Though Charlie was too young to have fought in the Vietnam war, he has spent more than his fair share of time spilling blood in this country, in a variety of other conflicts through his years of military service.. back when he was nothing more than a blind servant of a corrupt power. Just being back in this country brings back a flood of memories, not all of them pleasant - memories of dead friends, bloodstained hands, and cheap, plentiful opium for all. Well, not so much that last one...

The echoing sound of a chopper's blades gradually becomes audible in the, tree-surrounded clearing selected as the locale for the fight. Charlie can't help but smirk as he stares out of the helicopter's open cargo doors, watching the jungle pass beneath him, lush green trees as far as the eye can see. "I suppose Howard and his lackeys thought they were being ironic with this one.." he says gruffly, to no one in particular.

As the transport reaches the clearing and stops to hover over it, Charlie takes one moment to push his glasses up his nose, pulling his vest tight around his shoulders as he calmly steps out of the helicopter. Landing effortlessly in a crouch, Lieutenant Nash pulls himself up as he eyes his one half of the opposing team. He doesn't know much about this 'Saint' fellow... but his partner, Nagare, is somewhat more familiar to Charlie - having fought alongside the man in a previous SNF.

Vietnam?

Well, Nagare thought he had signed up for the Olympics! Well, this certainly wasn't the Olympics, that was for sure. Stepping off of the armored van directly after Saint. He's happy to see tha man so ecstatic! But there is just something about him that really doesn't seem right about him. Well, he seems fine enough! That'll be enough for Nagare to deal with! Standing tall and getting out, he takes a deep breath of the mountain air, looking down below.

It's a really good view! That's for sure. Nagare's certainly happy to be here! But, he can't exactly remember the entire aspects of this fight. Or, well, what it's about. "Well, it probably is what you said sir!" Nagare announces, "I haven't been here myself, but I've heard it has a lot of interesting things about it." Nagare has swam everywhere! But the jungle. Be sure Nagare could probably out death roll a crocodile.

Standing about, he doesn't see Charlie immediately as he looks about.

Well, this certainly is a good place to fight! It's a lot better than a hot box or a emotionless box. Wow. Nagare has been in a lot of boxes if you think about it.

As the whup-whup-whup of a chopper comes into hearing range, Saint stops his reverie of ecstatic joy at being in a new, lovely location to look up, a hand reaching up to pin his derby to his head so it doesn't get blown off in the downblast. "Oh my!" Saint exclaims, though it's completely lost in the noise as the chopper flies in low, sending grass blowing back, trees swaying, and Saint's coat flaring out dashingly. A man jumps out - presumably Nagare and his opponent - and then the chopper flies off.

Saint watches after the chopper a moment in silence, doing nothing else but simply watch where it goes. Clearly it just means he's fascinated by seeing a chopper up close.
"It's very interesting, isn't it?" Saint asks in response to Nagare. There's a slight disconnect between his answer and what he probably intends to mean, as if the 'it' Nagare was talking about is different from what he talks about. But then, the priest turns his attention to the Lieutenant, and offers the man a deep smile, and even bows his way. "I take it you're our opponent? Well, well then... let us get started, shall we? It would be a terrible shame to make the people wait for us. They pay good money, after all!" And then the priest snaps his cane up... then slams it back down into the ground. And just stands there, smiling.

"And in that vein, I do invite you to begin. I feel you are a much stronger man than I am... I would very much like to feel your strength. The pain you can cause another. Considering how you move - particularly in this terrain - I feel you are a man who knows the business of violence." Saint opens his eyes, and red eyes look back to Charlie with an expression that is at odds with his smile. "So, punch me."

His practiced gaze sweeping across both his opponents, Charlie not only sizes them up - but the surrounding jungle as well, looking for possible placements of C4 charges and claymores, or the telltale glint of a rifle scope hitting sunlight in the trees. He's well aware that he won't be facing his two opponents alone, he'll have to contend with various traps in the jungle instead. Fortunately, he has quite a bit of experience in jungle warfare, which should give him something of an edge against his (presumably) inexperienced foes.

When Saint begins to speak, Nash's attention is taken off the surrounding wilderness, the man's almost bizarrely masochistic words causing a raised eyebrow on the soldier's face. He's had his fair share of exposure to sadistic/masochist personalities.. after all, the armed forces certainly attracts it's fair share of that personality type - just look at what Rolento and D.Dark became. But still, outright asking for a punch in the face? Somewhat unusual.

Still, Charlie isn't going to draw out this fight any longer than he has to - well aware that, even now, a sniper's scope may be settling somewhere on his body. So, he breaks out into a run, covering the distance between him and his two foes rather swiftly. As he enters close-quarters with Saint, he spins on a heel as he lands, before leaping forward with one foot forward as he aims a spinning side kick towards his opponent's ribcage.

Nagare looks about, even as Saint looks about. "Yeah, it really is pretty neat out here." Nagare announces, probably not on the same wave length as Saint is on. Well, much less of a wavelength for sure. They're definitely not thinking the same things unless Nagare himself is pretty crazy. Or in some other wave length troubled.

Now look towards Charlie once more, Nagare waves. "Oh, hey! I remember you. Last fight was pretty intense. But I dislike the oven like that. I had to orde take out for a week!" Nagare chuckles after the joke, a hit or not. Since, well, Saint and Nash are very intense fighters when it comes down to it. Why Nagare is HERE must be a joke for the SNF comitee.

Doesn't make sense? Slap Nagare in.

Want it to make EVEN LESS. Put him somewhere hot.

Well, this place is a little colder do to the height, but otherwise, it's still pretty steamy. "Good luck." Nagare announces as he watches Charlie start the fight. Well, not one to completely ignore the start, Nagare gets to work, moving in towards Charlie!

And attempts to help him out a little. How? Well... simple! He attempts to get Charlie to breath, by repeated strikes to his chest! Which might be a little to war flashbacky for Nash. LETS HOPE NOT FOR NAGARE'S SAKE.

Nagare is going to regret not reading the briefing for this week's SNF. Surrounding the fighters, hidden in the trees, with clothing and face paint that easily helps them blend into the environment, is a crack unit of solders on loan from Vietnam. Their orders? Harass the fighters with whatever firepower they want to bring to bear.

Communicating via radio, they will be picking out their targets, following instructions to single out who's to be shot and who isn't, based on the calls made by their superiors. Who would want to see something as violent as a bunch of fighters getting shot at? Oh, just the whole world, is all!

The match begins, Saint requesting to be punched, and Charlie obliging him. But the first man of the hour is Nagare. It comes from a low lying bush not far off to his side, a man concealed there, lying low in the dirt raising the barrel of a double barreled shot gun... waiting until Nagare is directly in his line of fire.

And then with a leap shreading blast, thousands of shotgun pellets are sent flying Nagare's way! Maybe he'll remember the briefing now.

Well, not quite a punch in the face, but it'll do. Charlie snaps forward at the request the priest makes with nary a pause, beyond maybe the briefest ones of surprise. The man charges in while Saint stands perfectly still, hands on top of his cane, smiling that smile that doesn't quite touch his eyes. He doesn't move as Charlie closes the gap, and he doesn't move as the man's leg extends and aims, aided by momentum, directly for his ribcage. And he certainly doesn't try to move away as the foot closes in, leaving for nothing but ribcage as the kick connects, and hard. The man doesn't quite go flying, but he's definitely stirred by the momentum, the power, and the sheer kinetic force of the attack. Staggering to the side and nearly falling, but managing to catch himself using his cane, the priest has to pause a moment to cough, dry heaving from sheer, explicit pain, hunched over and taking in shuddering breaths.

And then he laughs.

"Ha... hah hah hahahahaha! Yes, most excellent! You know your business well, 'Sarge'," the man says through his labored breaths. Well, technically Charlie's rank was higher than that, but Saint didn't know much of the military. Straightening up, the priest looks over his shoulder to Charlie, his smile wide as wide can be, possibly even moving into a grin with how many teeth he shows. "I accept your pain... and see if you can handle my own!" Paying no attention to poor Nagare, Saint steps towards Charlie - and just throws his gloved hand out, attempting to palm the man's face while Nagare strikes the man's chest. If he makes contact, there's nothing overt... until the images appear. Ghostly gray visions of grotesquely-shaped people loom up around the Lieutenant, something Nagare can't see even if the strike is true. The four people each grapple a limb, clinging with gnarled, horrible hands, and then - snap. All them twist, giving a psychic impression of all four of the man's limbs shattering. But no sooner does that pain fade, revealing it to be fake, than does Saint remove his hand - or have it removed for him.

Charlie doesn't have much experience in the.. supernatural, so when Saint grabs hold of his head and haunts him with terrible visions - which seem to be able to affect the soldier physically, his body jerking painfully as the hallucinations torment him. Damn, in Vietnam having an acid trip. Reminds Charlie of his early military career! Add some thieving hookers and horrible crimes against humanity, and this scene would belong in a museum.

There's not much the Vigilante leader can do against Saint's bizarre assault except wait it out, and even before the visions have totally ceased, Nagare rushes in with an attack of his own. Moving the interrupt the chest-slaps with a technique of his own, Lieutenant Nash has not factored in just how mentally shaken that last assault had left him, and his reactions are far below their usual levels - resulting in Nagare's strike landing, sending the soldier stumbling back a few steps.

"Urgh.. what'd you do to me.." he says, removing his glasses and rubbing his eyes with the heel of his palm as the hallucinations begin to fully disappear.

Even as Nagare is throwing himself into the man, well, somethings just not right about Saint, as he starts spouting off and laughing even as he throws himself directly into the way of his assaults. This is... entirely unexpected, even for the air swimmer Nagae! Not that he really minds, but it's just somewhat confusing, as well as, oh say, downright disturbing.

"Uh... I... think you should stop talking about it like that! I know that the streams of history are pretty strong, and he could end up thinking about things he tried for forget. This should be a fight, interesting and fun!" Nagare announces. But that's not what it's going to be at all. AT ALL. Even as Charlie writhes in pain, Nagare's not sure what the heck Saint is doing. Maybe... he should not do anything more? It's... a hard one.

But even then, Nagare must deal with FIGHTERS. A bush fires out towards Nagare with a shotgun. Nagare almost didn't even see it coming! He remembers right there as he backs up, bringing his flippers off to stop the pellets from hurting too much. "W-wow... that stings." Nagare announces as he waves his hands about, not looking towards Charlie. Well, here goes nothing.

Moving towards Charlie, even as he's not looking too good, Nagare presses his assault, moving towards the man in a slow but surefire technique. Leaping into the air, he swims somewhat, even falling slow towards Charlie. And once there, he flails, his hands still hurting... but his flippered feet kicking towards Charlie's figure!

Of the three fighters present, only one is a trained solder. That means when it comes to trying to hit him, it's time to bring out the big guns. Up on a nearby hilltop, an ace sniper has been calibrating his .50 caliber rifle. A heavy weapon, the long barrel is propped up on a stand. Lying on the ground, the camouflaged solder has been lining up his shoot for some time.

Nash's pause to rub his eyes after the jarring experience imparted by Saint's unholy touch is the perfect moment to take it. The sound roars out like a cannon the moment the trigger is so carefully pulled, the large round hurtling through the distance directly for the mercenary leader's chest!

PTSD was common enough in soldiers, even though Charlie had never faced off against... well, the charlies. Nagare had a point, really. Mucking around in a soldier's head, feeding him painful memories, might very well awaken some of his own painful memories. Things he didn't want to remember, things he was better off not remembering. Or, in the case of what PTSD did to people... better off not reliving. However, to someone like Saint, who dealt with painful memories every day, and indeed that was how he fought... reliving memories was something he had no problem making others do, no matter how painful.

Ignoring Nagare, Saint speaks more to Charlie as he backs off. "I gave you a glimpse... of a world of love," the priest says. He doesn't pause more than it takes to state this, and then, like Nagare - and the sniper - the Romanian steps forward and strikes again, not giving the Lieutenant any time to recover from the psychic assualt, and indeed, giving him another.

The priest's free hand darts to his cane, and with a *snik* noise, the top portion of the cane suddenly pulls away, revealing a thin, light, but razor sharp length of steel, a hidden blade in the cane. Saint steps forward and slashes thrice with the blade, quick and light in a manner that isn't quite fencing, aimed in no particular place on Charlie's body. Should any make contact, an impression of psychic pain follows through the stinging sword slashes, sensations of burning, flames erupting from the wounds, that fade as quickly as they came.

Given a few moments to recover his concentration, Charlie is quick on the reaction when his two foes come with seperate attacks. Ducking low to avoid the first slash from Saint's cane-sword, the Lieutenant moves just as quickly as he leaps over the man, avoiding the second attack - and when Saint spins around and attempts to deliver the third, his target rolls away effortlessly, successfully nullify the man's entire attack.

But Nagare, his second opponent, isn't about to give him any time to get his bearings - coming up from the side with a savage kick aimed towards his midsection. Fortunately, the Vigilante leader is one of the sharpest fighters alive - his analytical gaze quickly spotting the attack and leaping highly over it.. but his upwards path carries him directly into the path of a sniper resting in the jungle surrounding them. While Charlie has tried his best to keep one eye on his environment, knowing exactly what the SNF organizers have planned for the three fighters this evening.

His concentration of avoiding the two blows opens him up to a rifle bullet, the powerful .50 caliber round - fully capable of disabling an APC on it's own - slams into the man's body, tearing into his flesh before being stopped by the man's steel-solid abdominal muscles. Reaching with the index and middle fingers of his right hand, Charlie probes into the wound, digging out the mashed bullet with his bare hands and tossing it aside to the jungle ground.

He doesn't say anything, but the clenching of his teeth betrays the fact that he just got a nasty surprise - and he's going to do his best to focus on ending the fight before the soldiers outside the battle have any more chances. His attention falls upon the bizarre, slightly disturbing opponent who seems to have caused such vivid hallucinations - rushing up to the skinny man and attemping to grip him around the waist.. if he finds his mark, the Vigilante leader lifts him up and brings him slamming to the ground neck-first in a vicious German suplex.

Nagare is pretty lucky right now to be ignored! If he wasn't, well, that would be pretty bad! He'd have to deal with a lot of things that simply wouldn't be good for him, such as Charlie crushing him in the chest or even more bullets. And Nagare sure doesn't like bullets that cut into him like that. It's pretty bad, believe it or not.

And then a loud bang. Nagare even turns towards where it came from, only to hear it soundly strike Charlie. Well, that certainly didn't look too envigorating. He's going to have to make sure that, if anything, he's going to keep away from those bullets and anything else that might strike him like that!

Now, he's trying to ignore Saint right now. Like he wasn't there, perhaps a bad idea, but the other part is he could continue to preach to the man about 'stopping it', which the man obviously won't do. Nagare can, however, hope Charlie beats him into glue. Or the snipers pick HIM. There's always hope.

Now, as he moves, Nagare hurls himself forward, thrusting himself towads Charlie's back even as he goes for the suplex, aiming to batter and crush him under the most powerful technique in the world of fighting and swimming!

THE DOG PADDLE.

The sniper's bullet definitely shook things up a bit. But while the lone gunman was lining up that shot, a portion of the unit has been flanking through the trees circling the clearing, getting into position. Radio chatter is kept to a minimum, but the fighters might here small bits of it now and then.

The men await their next target, the officer in charge observing the fight through binoculars from a distance. Eventually the call comes, two names barked into the radio, and in that moment, a spray of assault rifles is unleashed into the clearing. The targeting isn't too accurate, focused more on random quantity and confusion than direct, careful shots.

But as random as the fire may be, it's clear that at the moment they're gunning for the two challengers in this fight!

The fight was well under way now, and getting intense, no fighter backing off or giving an inch to each other. And the guerilla fighters in the jungles around them were only making things all the more intense. Saint's slashes miss the man entirely, though not for lack of trying, and the two younger, more inexperienced fighters get to show precisely why the man was an LT: he's damn good. The priest doesn't show any signs of disappointment his attacks have missed... he simply moves on. Or tries to, but there's Charlie, intent on causing him harm. While he gladly would have taken the pain in stride, Saint knew his limits, and knew that he would be taken down fast if allowed. So, with a dancer's grace, the priest steps back and spins out of Charlie's grasp as the man seeks to suplex him - just in time to see the muzzle flashes of the assault rifles, which gives Saint, at least, time to dodge - if only to avoid most of the more damaging shells. The bullets tear through his side, grazing him and doing more damage to his clothes than to he himself, but he still staggers, and cries out in pain. He'd never been shot before. "My, but that was... interesting!"

No sooner does he say this than does he snap back around, his sword being swept towards Charlie, then following through, spinning on a heel to form a full circling slash aimed right for the man's midsection, which ends with a crack of his cane upside the man's head, should it all connect. There's no psychic pain to go along with this swings, too light and unfocused to be providing enough time for the pain to surge through.

Moving swiftly around as soon as he fails the suplex, Charlie diverts Nagare's attack with a solid forearm block, absorbing the impact effortlessly and swatting the man aside. Attempting to react to the second attack coming from his opposite side, Lieutenant Nash finds himself circling around too slow, the sword slicing into him.. but being stopped fairly easily by his solid, toned flesh. Perhaps on a lesser warrior, such an attack would cause some damage, but as it is all that it achieveds is a thin line of blood being drawn on the man's flesh.
"You ever actually practise using that thing, kid?" he says in regards to Saint's seemingly ineffectual use of his sword, "I suggest it."

With those words, he rushes in two steps, aiming to grab hold of the smaller fighter's neck with one hand. If he finds his grip, he pulls the religious nut in close, grabbing him around the neck and pull him down - making it easier for Charlie to drive six, solid knees into Saint's midsection before throwing him aside.

More pellets as he's left around! They come at quick speeds, crashing into Nagare and sending him teetering back as he does, even as he attempts to swim right through it, toppling over as it comes. Horrific! The balls strike the almost naked Nagare and send him sprawling towards the ground at such a speed due to their crushing power. Thankfully, that's all Nagare has to worry about as he gets up, wounded pretty terribly still from their strength. Yow that's going to leave a mark.

But Nagare continues on with the heart of an olympian swimmer, making very sure that if anything he's going to give it his all! And as he sees Charlie once more going for Saint, the flipper man simply begins to swim into the air on a move so illaborate that it's crazy!

Swimming up on waves of waterchi emminating on his body, he climbs to the top of his dive, up there, he hovers in the air for a moment before tilting down towards Charlie. And like that, the swimmer just begins to fall, coming down easily towards Charlie's figure, attempting to head butt the man without more than a second thought!

With the frantic action taking place amongst the fighters, it can be hard to tell what's going on from a distence. One thing's for sure, the trio of combatants are made of tough stuff - able to withstand punishment that would destroy average civilians. More orders are transmited, this time to men up on a rising to the east of the clearing.

The distinctive sound of mortars being fired is heard before the explosive rounds descend out of their extremely high arch back down toward the ground. The chances for a direct hit aren't too high, but the sharpnel from even a close call should be enough to phase even these fighters.

Two mortar rounds come crashing down nearly at the same time, the explosions sending dirt, debris, and metal flying out in a radius - some of which may very well hit the two they land nearest. Wound the already wounded - maybe it's deliberate. But with something like mortar fire, it can be hard to say!

COMBATSYS: Saint endures GLaDOS' Mortar Fire.

The fight moves on, fast and furious, and with not a car in sight. Nagare attacks from the other side as Saint, making for an effective flanking tactic, one that allows for the priest to get his slash in across the man's middle, even if all it does it provide a mild annoyance at best. That annoyance is, however, enough to make Charlie continue his sole focus on Saint, the military man attacking the thin, sickly-appearing young man once more. This time, Saint can't dodge away from the man, his legs a touch unsteady from the barrage of gunfire that grazed through muscle tissue of his leg, and so he's taken and drawn in... just as the mortars come. The albinistic man has no intention of merely letting Charlie have his way, of course, and even as the mortar shells explode, potentially distracting the more experienced fighter for a moment, Saint is moving, ignoring the shrapnel tearing into him - and slamming his cane right into Charlie's chin, point first.

An explosion of psychic pain slams into the man's head, taking the form of a spike being driven into his skull. This probably doesn't stop the barrage of knee slams, which unfortunately the priest has to take, but likely not all of them as the mortars at least throw Saint clear from the other man's attack, rolling to the ground... and not getting back up immediately. Hurting, torn and bloody, the priest seems quite hurt, and a little out of it... even as he laughs from the pain wracking his body.

COMBATSYS: Nagare successfully hits Charlie with Concrete Dive.

Charlie is struck nearly simultaneously from the combined efforts of his two opponents, who are turning out to be more than a match for the more skilled and experienced fighter. While it seems like he still has some fight left in him after this dual assault, the mortar shell that lands shortly afterwards - preceeding by the telltale sound of it's launch echoing throughout the jungle. The explosive round hits the ground, throwing Charlie's body clear of the blast - his frame hitting the jungle floor several meters away, seemingly out cold from the concussive blast.

"Ugh..."

COMBATSYS: Charlie takes no action.

Nagare simply plops down, falling towards the side and flopping as Charlie goes down for the count, as he sits, he simply looks towards Saint and blinks. Slowly pulling himself up and patting himself off, he approaches Saint with a nod, as well as Charlie. "Good fight, you two." He announces in a rather meaningful manner.

As such, he turns about and heads towards the van that took them there. He doesn't really have much words for Saint, since he really had been focusing on tormenting the veteran.

However, it's pretty good not to have that such attention focused on you! For good reasons.

COMBATSYS: GLaDOS has left the fight here.

By that time Saint has recovered himself. Sitting up slowly, he looks about, only to realize he's not in any danger of being immediately attacked. Instead of getting up, then, the priest sits down, taking a moment to recover more fully, and nods to Nagare with a slight smile on his face, his eyes once again closing. "Good fight indeed," he says, his demeanor once again cheerful, like when Nagare first met him. Maybe the man just puts on an act when he's fighting? He seems friendly enough. Eventually, though, the priest stands up and follows the air swimmer into the armored van, leaning a touch more heavily on his cane than when he came out, covered in small shrapnel wounds and his clothing shredded. The medics would need to see to him, undoubtedly, and that was likely where the APC is to be headed first as it pulls out of the fight arena.

COMBATSYS: Saint has left the fight here.
