Description: "The Reason To Fight" -- Chizuru and Heidern both have very precise, technical methods of dealing with each other, whereas Sakura would much rather prefer to smack the heck out of people. Can two great tastes taste great together? (Winner: Chizuru)
The glitz and glamour of SNF...
It isn't for Heidern.
His appearances in these public venues are sparse, to say the least. He did not care for the publicity, nor for the attention that these particular events typically bring. A man who prefers to operate covertly, Saturday Night Fights were the last thing many, if not everyone, would expect to see him in. But from time to time, Heidern makes a venture into the spotlight.
Reluctantly, of course.
Waiting on one side of the arena floor is the Ikari Commander, whose solitary blue eyed gaze peers over the filled audience with a look of sheer scrutiny. A full house that may otherwise daunt and disarm even the most seasoned of fighters, Heidern remains calm and utterly composed. He is not worried in the least, and there's only one thing on his mind:
The fight that is to come.
Silently, the imposing soldier sheds his coat and casts it aside to the arena floor, caring little of its fate. Instead, he lifts his hands, giving both leather gloves a firm tug into place before rolling his broad shoulders. Despite his reservations, one thing is certain:
This should be interesting.
Chizuru is on the other side of the arena floor, and has been for some time.
Or was. She got up for a few moments and has only recently come back, apparently to take a business call. Chizuru did not say what sort of business it was; she is, after all, involved in both occult business and money business.
Chizuru returns, passing off her phone to a tall red-headed man. He is already watching several other things of hers; what's one more? Stepping up into the arena battleground itself, she looks Heidern over - well, she knows of him, although the number of times she has ever fought Ikaris can be counted on the fingers of one hand. Generally, they do not have any power she is interested in...well, except for one. It's not held by Heidern.
She smiles, very slightly. "Commander," Chizuru says, politely. "I have been looking forward to this."
Calm, cool, confident: adjectives that can apply to both headline fighters tonight, but a bit less so to the third. Sakura Kasugano's focus lasts only as long as her patience -- which both she and her sensei agree could use some improvement. But... it doesn't seem that she'll need to be =that= focused for this battle, as she's only here to try and distract the other two.
It might have been easy to forget the diminutive Japanese schoolgirl with such powerful presences about, though... because both Heidern and Chizuru have spotlights. Once the announcer finishes his schpiel though, Sakura -- waving like mad to the audience -- gets a spotlight too!
The arena lighting gradually works its way up to normal intensity at this point -- it'd be hell for the spotlight operators and the audience otherwise! "Hey, hey, hey!" calls out Sakura, shaking her fist at the two quiet peoples. "You two ready to rock?" she shouts, glancing back and forth between the two. She's not expecting much of a reaction, and really... this amuses the fist-pumping adolescent as much as anything. "Okay! Yeah, that's the spirit!"

As the Yata approaches, Heidern's expression remains the same: cold and stern. His one, good eye regards the woman idly, a brief looking-over before that solitary blue eye simply draws to a patient close. On the corners of his lips haunts the faintest of smirks. Who'd have thought two people who had every reason to despise the same man would cross paths in an unlikely venue?
His thoughts remain his, however. Lifting his chin, the man's arms fold neatly behind his back, his posture rigid and stiff as he opens that one eye and settles it on the woman.
"Chizuru," the man replies, tipping his head in a faint nod before he lets his jaw tense briefly, an idle gesture at best. "While I extend thanks, I cannot say that the feeling is mutual." He pauses briefly, before he adds, "I do not like exacting violence upon women, even for sport.
"But, regardless, this is a fight. And since you are as capable as I, I warn." Shifting his feet, the man assumes stance. "I will not hold back or restrain myself. Especially if that bastard Bernstein is watching." With a light smirk, the man lightly shakes his head before he says, "So I extend apologies in advance, miss Kagura."
That's when Sakura makes her appearance. The man's expression does not change still, even as the youthful young Ansatsuken disciple emerges with fists in the air. Are they ready? "As ready as ever," the man coolly replies. Fortunately, she doesn't expect much from either, and one half of the elder duo does not disappoint her.
"In any case...Miss Kasugano, Miss Kagura..." He nods once, curtly.
And then the man moves in an instant and, lifting his leg high, intends on slamming his knee straight into Chizuru's head, followed by a crash of the top of his heavy boot onto the Yata's skull.

That actually makes Chizuru more amused. It shows in her eyes more than her face, but it is there, a twinkle that wasn't before. "COnsider it practice if you'd rather," she says, "as I assure you I can do as well as you can. And as for Bernstein... I'd be disappointed if he wasn't. He does rather like to keep tabs on me."
She glances over to Sakura. "I don't see any point in delaying any longer either," she says, calmly, in the instant before Heidern attacks.
She is not where the boot is. Chizuru is already halfway around the man, having not even left an image behind her; she's just that fast, at least over short distances. Her foot is already raised to strike at Heidern's back and push him forward, a fast shove more than a strong one. She /may/ also be trying to put him between her and Sakura. It's hard to tell.
Sakura is actually rather surprised at being here... she's seen both fighters before, certainly... Chizuru under less than auspicious circumstances, at that. But she's never had occasion to out-and-out =fight= either one. This =still= isn't a true opportunity, as she's not really gaining the full attention of either fighter, but it's close for now. At least she won't have to worry as much about them hitting her back.
So first, she'll try and attack Chizuru -- the fighter whose style she knows the least about. It looks... simple enough on TV, right? She moves quicker than the camera can pick up, but Kasugano's sure her advanced skills can--
"... wha..." mumbles Sakura, as Chizuru flickers from right before her eyes. Frowning, she shakes her head. Maybe she'll just start with Heidern after all! "Heads up, Commander!" Kasugano lashes out at the military man with a bare-knuckled punch to the fa-- oh wait she's too short -- to the chest! "Hyaa!"

"Practice it is then, miss Kagura," the soldier responds.
And then, by his action, the fight begins. Zeroing in on the Yata priestess, the soldier has every intention of starting the fight out as swiftly yet painfully as possible. His leg lifts and swings, a swift motion that has its mark...
Or so he had presumed. He has seen her fighting style before, through television and various other public venues. But seeing alone isn't experience. The real Chizuru blinks out of existence moving behind the old, one-eyed soldier without hesitation. Her leg aloft, she has every intention of striking him before he can move, just as Sakura drives into punch him. He weathers the Kasugano girl's punch as he turns, a grunt escaping his lips as her strike lands into his ribs.
"Clever girl," he mulls aloud, perhaps to both.
But when Chizuru's leg snaps out, the man twists and intercepts the blow with his hands. Without hesitating, the soldier swings the woman high into the air as he crouches low and chambers a hand straight at his side. When she falls, his arm moves upwards, fingers tense and poised in an iron-like knife-hand...
For her to land on. Back first.
The result is messy. His hand will lodge INTO her back side, his form erupting with an odd blood-red haze as chi oozes from his body and seeps into the wound, making an unpleasant experience of someone's hand in HER BACK even more so. And just when things cannot possibly feel worse...
He stands upright and jerks his arm, sending the woman flying to the side and off his bloodied leather glove without a single word.
That was a decidedly unpleasant experience that Chizuru hopes not to repeat in the near future.
She's been stabbed before, and she's been blasted with chi before, and she's even been cut with a chi-imbued sword, but never has she ever had something like /this/ happen quite like that. Chizuru hits the ground and rolls, pained, as Heidern discards her to the side.
When she gets up, it's with a bit more respect and a lot more wariness in her eyes. She doesn't want to be dealt with quite that way again. "Impressive," she says, to herself, as she keeps her distance this time.
A few moments later, an illusion splits away from Chizuru, and both of them dart forward. One comes high, one comes low; the real one is low, but it is the feint into the illusion, which strikes with a chi-imbued drive downwards.
Sakura smiles a bit at the compliment -- whether it's meant for her or not, really. The fact that she's even able to -hit- Heidern makes her smile grow a bit more... though she can't help but wonder if he wanted her to hit him, really!
She'd be remiss in her duties, though, if she were to just break off the attack like this. She's here to make trouble, officially! And... she knows she can't attack Chizuru while the woman's paying attention to her -- not with how =fast= she can move. So she hops back, keeping her fists balled in anticipation. She sneaky, rike ninja... and Sakura also knows the Yata heiress will have to strike Heidern sooner or later. Thus, she learns patience too.
And when the illusions =both= seem to strike, Kasugano steps in close and thrusts her foot right at their averaged center. "Hyaa!"

The man's response is...expectedly lackluster, as he regards the Yata woman with little more than a soft nod. He does not speak; instead, he regards her with that only eye of his, while maintaining somewhat of a watchful gaze on the Fighting Fangirl of Ryu's. In a sense, Heidern is fighting two opponents here. Not just the priestess.
When the woman moves, the man braces himself for impact - to no real avail. He is feinted by the illusionary Chizuru and, as result, is struck by the low, sent staggering back a few feet from impact as her chi-laced strike crashes into him. He grunts, clutching his chest.
"Your talent of illusion is impressive, miss Kagura," the man compliments, a blue eye drifting toward the younger girl, eyeing her closely before he looks back to Chizuru. "Unfortunately, as I'm sure you know, it takes more than trickery to stop HIM." Venom rolls off of Heidern's tongue as he regards Bernstein, his calm visage slipping for the briefest of moments.
"But then, brute force alone isn't either. It would seem we both can learn from one another to achieve a common goal, correct?"
A swift breath is inhaled over the man's lips before he lunges forward, with every intention of swiping his arm forward like a blade, to drive it firmly into the woman's stomach.

Both people are fighting Sakura. That's what happens when you're a Chaos Agent - except, of course, they're not allowed to hit you, although that isn't always paid attention to. Chizuru is going to follow it, though. She likes the rules.
Sakura comes at her first, and the illusion moves apart from the real copy, letting her foot whistle between them and strike nothing. (Even if she hit the illusion, could she tell?) "Thank you," she says, as she straightens up, "and yes, I'm well aware. It will serve for now, though, and even the wisest can allow themselves to be fooled - "
Heidern lunges again, and Chizuru spins around behind him, letting his lunge carry him past her. She debates tripping him or tangling him with her sleeve, but does not; he's moving so fast that she barely had the opportunity. "I've always found brute force a crude reaction," she says. "Better by far to have a tiny bit where they do not expect. And as for you," she adds, to Sakura, "you would be well taught to watch. Wait. See what is happening and then act rather than wasting your effort pointlessly."
That's certainly what /she's/ doing. Chizuru isn't moving at all. She's just...watching Heidern. Watching how he moves, how he breathes...the impression is given that if she could watch how he thinks, she would be. (Rose hasn't taught her that.)

More than trickery to stop HIM? Kasugano narrows her eyes in thought for a moment -- she'd worn a baggy hoodie over top of her uniform due to the last icy death throes of winter, so maybe Heidern was referring to Sakura as a boy? ... even though she's wearing a skirt still? ... Oh wait, he's staring at someone in the crowd. Wha--
Kasugano shakes her head, mostly because Kagura seems to be talking to her by this point. Startled, she hops back, scratching her nose with her sleeve. "... Well, yeah, sure! ... If =we= were fightin', I probably would!"
... Darnit, now that Chizuru gave that advice, Sakura decides she wants to =use= it. This makes her frown! Stupid adults and their 'good advice'... "... well, okay. It's not every day I get to learn from the pros, I guess!" Excuses, excuses! Sakura squints her eyes at Chizuru -- if she leaves with nothing else, she's gonna find out the =trick= to her illusions!

Another illusion, another missed strike. Despite his apparent loss of attack, the old soldier is far from ruffled from his miss. Instead, he simply flows with his strike, coming from a wide crouched stance to a smooth, stiff upright poise as Chizuru weaves away and makes her retreat - from both fighters. The man's lips twitch into the faintest of smirks as response.
"She is young but skilled," the man replies. "And she has two old people to keep up with. I say give the girl some slack." Humor? In my Ikari?
It's more likely than you think.
But his smile fades, as both fighters fail to step up to the proverbial plate and deliver attacks. Frowning softly and very discreetly, the soldier merely slides into stance and tenses his legs. ..before the ground at his feet erupts with red energy. The blood-colored haze rises like a putrid mist, coalescing and crawling over his body as he just stands there and focuses.
"If it's a stand of you wish for, miss Chizuru, by all means.
"I am a very patient man."

"As I am a very patient woman," Chizuru says, standing still as she watches. Heidern is not moving, but his energy is, and she can watch that. It's interesting enough on its own - tinged with blood, although not in the same way as Tenma's, and oddly...messy. She isn't sure she likes the feeling of it. Sakura's gives her no such trouble.
Still, she is the first to act, a testing rush; Chizuru advances on Heidern slowly for about four steps and then throws all her weight behind a sliding kick, aimed solidly at one of his legs to impact with the slightly raised heel of her shoe. At least she doesn't wear stiletto heels.
Still... Sakura's focused on one thing, and one thing only: how Chizuru's =moving=. She wants to see that illusion power in =action!= And yet... the Yata doesn't do her illusion stuff. "Hey, aren't you supposed to..." Grr!
And with that in mind, Sakura lunges forward, balling both fists together and swinging them up in an axehandle, aiming to slam into Chizuru's shoulder and knock her off-balance. If nothing else, she'll get a better sense of how the woman plans to get out of the way! "Hraaaaaaaaa!"

But it works out in the end for Heidern. When Chizuru moves, so too does Sakura, right after the Yata woman. Rather than simply avoid the strike or stave it off with his arms, the soldier holds his ground, letting that leg crash into his body as he absorbs the brunt of the Yata woman's blow. But, briefly, a single blue eye hoods almost dangerously.
"Move, Miss Kasugano," is Heidern's only warning to the youthful Chaos Agent as he attempts to LUNGE into Chizuru a split-second later and drive his hand deep into her stomach, attempting to give her little time to react. And should it impact, his hand will bury there before he clenches his hand...and sends a jarring burst of flaming chi energy to rock the woman and send her flying.

Poor frustrated Sakura indeed. It's hard to tell whether Chizuru planned it all this way (probably not) or was just extremely lucky and knows how to capitalize. She turns into the blow, letting Sakura push her, and rather then resist she goes down with it, shoved backwards and to the side.
It hurt - Chizuru felt something give in her shoulder - but she's not fallen and she's not where Heidern expects her to be and that is enough. Her hand whips up and around, toward where his own hands are reaching to stab into her; instead of her stomach he encounters a sphere of chi held in her cupped hand, an orange ball surrounded by smaller, wispy drifts. It catches the chi, shimmers - and pulses back, an energy shockwave to launch Heidern away from Chizuru Yata.
She straightens up afterwards, one shoulder hunched slightly as she hasn't worked out the bruising from Sakura yet. She hisses through her teeth as she does start to work it out.
MOVE? Who the heck are you, old man? Why should an agile young woman like Sakura have to worry about a one-eyed old codger's lack of depth perception?! Lucky for her, Sakura's body is already responding, but more to Heidern's -action- than his warning. So by the time she can get fully upset, she's out of harm's way -- partly thanks to Chizuru, of course.
"... Oh." gapes Sakura, nodding slowly.
Sakura =can= be indirect and sneaky, but only when she -wants- to be. And right now, with Heidern and Chizuru both professing to be really patient person, Kasugano just hates to be a third wheel. "Mmm... thanks for the warning!" Coiling her fist for a strike, she calls out, "So, uh, look out Chizuru!"
And lunges right at Heidern, hoping to tackle him to the ground with a rushing lariat! Okay, =now= she wants to be sneaky!

When Chizuru actually stands for once, rather than avoid the younger fighter's attack, Heidern doth believe he has a problem. Or a potential problem.
Still, the soldier pushes forward, a chi-laden hand thrusting outward. At the same time, the woman presents an oddly-colored sphere of energy that...pushes all of it right back into Heidern's face. Flames wash over the soldier, causing him to stagger back and grunt, but hardly wounded from the odd scuffle encountered. Hands lift, dusting his fatigues off...when he hears footsteps.
Grabbed and taken down, the man hits the ground with heavy, meaty thud, a loud grunt again slipping past his dry lips. Patiently, however, the soldier rises from the ground, giving his fatigues another dusting off before he lightly smirks.
"A conundrum," he comments...before he again lunges forward with every intention of grabbing the Yata woman and shoving her shoulders first into the arena floor. If all goes according to plan he'll swiftly slide at her side and lift an arm high...before he lodges it fiercely into the woman's stomach.

Chizuru has fewer defenses against this other than getting out of the way - which is something she does not manage to do. She makes a good attempt, though, almost gliding backwards and away from the blow, but not far enough; when she runs out of backward momentum, he's still coming, picking her up and dropping her to the floor.
She rolls afterwards. The damage is starting to add up; she's getting pretty sore, but not sore enough to give up. Still, it takes Chizuru a little longer than she'd like to get to her feet, partially because she's doing two things at once: getting up and summoning her chi back up.
The same sphere is visible in her hand - or the same at first, as it rapidly starts to look different than the other, shining more brightly as Chizuru cups it. She says something in archaic Japanese under her breath, repeatedly, more like a mantra than anything else as she holds it back behind her.
Chizuru lunges, trying to contact Heidern with the ball. Wisps of energy radiate away from it, almost as if they were trying to cling to Heidern, cling and bind his chi power for a few seconds until it wears away. It may be enough. She doesn't have the time to do a proper sealing, nor would she ever do it in a Saturday Night Fight, but this? This is practice.
Sakura leaps back and away from Heidern, snickering a bit. See, whenever she tries a takedown in a one-on-one fight, it rarely works! So at least she's pleased about =that= outcome.
Even still... isn't it kind of dangerous pushing old geezers to the ground? "Oh, ouch. Sorry 'bout that!" She leaps back and way, dusting her hands off as she gives the two a breather. Old-people germs!

When the woman comes lunging at Heidern again, he responds simply by lifting his arms in an attempt to let her sphere and hand collide into it. A good plan in his head, but clearly failing in its exection and, as result, that energy crashes through his arms and into his chest, sending an odd sensation through his body - along with pain.
Staggering back the old solider hisses through his teeth, his one good eye narrowed sharply before he...grins. "Interesting indeed. Maybe you have what it takes to take him down?" he muses to the woman. She certainly has less age on her side than he does...

Chizuru never tells her age. There is a reason for that.
She moves pretty quickly for being one of the oldest female fighters who commonly make an appearance here, though. She /does/ use an illusion this time, blurring as she seperates from it and circles around Heidern, one going one way and the other the other.
Chizuru ends behind Heidern as she merges with her illusion again, twisting low and sending her arm horizontally at just above ankle level. Her sleeve twists like a living thing to get underfoot and tangle Heidern up; she yanks to send him to the ground. "I doubt I could do it alone, either," she says, as she rises. "I've tried."
She glances back at Sakura. If she's timed right, Chizuru is about to be smacked by the younger girl, and she'll need to watch.
Sakura hasn't totally been paying attention to the conversation, as she was so pointedly asked to pay attention to the =motions= instead. And she =does= want to figure out Chizuru's techniques... only because she has a rough idea of what Heidern needs for his own: flexibility and dexterity.
But certain phrases do catch her ear, as she circles about to Heidern's side. "Who are you talking about?!" snaps Sakura, having either forgotten or misheard the name Heidern dropped at the start of the fight. "Geez, you two just..."
Oh, wait, that's Chizuru moving right now. Sakura's eyes follow the motions, and just when the moment's perfect, Sakura lunges forward with a twisting overhand punch that would hit about kneecap-level, were Chizuru standing upright. Most likely she isn't standing at that moment, considering she'd be looking back at Sakura. Creepy!

When Chizuru moves, the soldier attempts to reintroduce the woman to a world of untold pain. When she weaves and tries to sweep him off his feet, the man lashes out behind, seeking to grab her by...well, whatever he CAN. Unfortunately, things don't go as planned. Swept off his feet, the soldier hits the ground with a thud, his solitary blue eye shutting in grief.
This time, the old Ikari doesn't rise. Instead, a ghost of a smile rests upon his lips, his cold features frighteningly calm as he just accepts the fact his old body won't budge for him. "You win," he explains, glancing toward the woman.
"But remember. Never get careless or over-confident with that man." A gloved hand reaches up, tapping his eye. "You'll regret it if you do."
Slowly, Heidern eventually pulls himself up, shakily rising before he staggers for his coat. Picking it up, he drapes it over a shoulder as he begins to walk off, but not before he pauses and looks over a shoulder at the Yata heiress.
"You did well - both of you." His eye flickers to Sakura.

Chizuru does not follow up the attack. She is not vicious or cruel or particularly interested in casual sadism; she would offer Heidern a hand up if she did not assume it would be taken as a slight insult, which is not as she would mean it. Instead she leaps over Sakura's punch while in motion, sliding as she lands and staying still - casual. She's not even in a fighting stance anymore, so if Sakura really wants to punch her, now is the time.
"I never intend to," she says to Heidern. She adds him to the short list of people she may want to talk to, if Rugal ever unlocks some power he isn't supposed to have again...
Then she bows to him, as he backs away. Not a lot, but does it need to be?
Sakura smiles faintly, backing away. With Heidern leaving... well, her job's done! Kasugano steps back and bows stiffly to Chizuru -- mainly because she isn't =totally= sure Chizuru won't pull one of those illusion strides right up into her grill or something. But with that in mind... "Uh... yeah! You... good luck fighting that guy. Whoever he is!"
Smiling, she bobs her head once more. "Maybe we can one-on-one sometime... once I've figured out how to move half as fast as you!"
Snapping a quick salute, she turns to head out the gate!
