Description: K' and Batsu duke it out under the watchful eye of Hayato. Unsurprisingly, K''s attitude gets him some unwelcome attention from the Burning Phys Ed Teacher, but Batsu doesn't completely escape his wrath. But tough love is exactly what the youth of today need. (Winner: Batsu)
Taiyo High School is pretty used to having SNFs held here, probably because Taiyo Dome is one of the better Southtown venues for it; the massive sports arena has plenty of space for spectators, plenty of room for punching to happen on, and plenty of interested people who know the campus and are happy to come watch fights there. Today's no exception, especially since one of Taiyo's own -- indeed, likely the fighting student most associated with the school, excepting perhaps graduate Sakura Kasugano -- is one of the headliners, as well as one of the school's most beloved teachers taking part.
While in fighting 'home field advantage' is sort of a strange term, it DOES apply here a bit today. Batsu is already down on the field going through some stretches, warming up, and talking to a gaggle of classmates who are gathered behind him to wish him luck. Being here with a lot of Taiyo's student body to cheer him on gives the Burning Fighter a little extra pep today... well, that and the fact that he has vague memories of the guy he's supposed to be fighting and none of them were a good impression. Of course, that was a long time ago...
"Alright, guys, come on... the fight's gonna start any second," Batsu chides the freshmen on his side of the marked field -- the lacrosse field, in fact, which is pretty open -- with a sort of lopsided grin. To those who know him, seeing the brash young fighter's 'good side' isn't unusual anymore. In fact, it's even getting him some attention from girls... a fact which gives Batsu the willies, not that he'd admit to it. The truth is he just wants them gone before his opponent shows up. SNFs can be unpredictable things... and Batsu would rather not have some innocent get hurt because his opponent -- or hell, Batsu himself -- got sloppy.
Support for Batsu and Hayato run high among the crowd today. As two of Taiyo's most prized own, almost all the school have turned out in support of them. Audience favor is stacked against the Beast of Prey this afternoon-- he can feel it, feel it in that uncanny way animals have of sensing mood and atmosphere-- and he fails, completely, to care. He's been lingering at the entrance to the field proper for some time, leaning against the wall just at the mouth of the snaking tunnel that leads back into the interior of the arena... to the locker rooms from which he'd just come.
Eyes narrowed, gaze critically considering, K' watches Batsu from behind his obscuring shades. Occasionally, he's approached, whether by the rare fan or the much more common reporter-- he rebuffs conversation by simply failing to respond. No one is outright hostile to him, no one who isn't -paid- to do so does more than slant him looks that either wonder who the hell he is or reek of skeptical neutrality... but nonetheless, he's not in the mood.
Eventually, in answer to some unheard cue, K' pushes away from the wall, shoving his hands in his pockets and starting a measured lope towards his side of the field. His pace carries the careless reluctance of a boy who doesn't really want to be here-- who treats this not as a sporting event, not as a contest of honor, but as practice. As an obligation. It's entertaining obligation, certainly, he won't deny the adrenaline thrill of it... but by the look on his face, he hasn't forgotten why he has to do it in the first place.
He eventually prowls to a stop, his stance fixed and unmoving but nonetheless still rife with an odd restlessness. His left hand paws upwards, swiping the shades from his face; bared yellow eyes consider Batsu and his gaggle of freshmen with some measuring amusement. "Che..." comes his eventual opinion, the muted noise quiet but its sibilant managing to carry pretty well; and with a hint of a nasty smile, he lets his eyes slide closed.
Batsu may have the home field advantage, but that comes with a cost... and that cost is Hayato Nekketsu. And why would his participation in this fights be deterimental, you might ask? One might even think that Hayato would be on Batsu's side, giving him an edge against K'. Well, one would be wrong. Hayato's instructions for this fight are to keep the other two fighters in line and make sure they behave themselves, and /because/ of the fact that he knows Batsu so well he'll be holding the Taiyo student to a higher standard. And Batsu better not think that his punishment will be over just with this fight if he screws up. Hayato has many methods of making students regret the errors of their ways.
For now, though, there have been no problems, so Hayato simply stands in the middle of the field, occasionally tapping his shinai against his shoulder as he gazes around the assembled audience. Occasionally a student about to do something ill-advised pauses, looks over his shoulder in Hayato's direction, then decides to do something else instead. Some people prefer fear over respect... Hayato has them both.
The Burning Phys Ed Teacher does raise an eyebrow at K''s expression of his opinion about Batsu, but he'll let that one slide, since he wasn't directly watching K' when it happened. Neither of the fighters should expect to be getting any more freebies, however. And with all the fighters on the field, it looks like it's about time for things to start. Hayato looks from Batsu to K', then nods to himself. "Okay you two! I want to see a good fight today, and I'm sure all those folks out in the audience do, too!" He pauses for a moment, grinning, for the cheers from the audience. "But just because you're trying to beat each other's faces in doesn't mean this can't be friendly, got it? I've got my eyes on both of you, so don't mess around. Now..." he says with a grin, "let's have some fun."
He knew Hayato would be here, oh yes. But Batsu is... well, he isn't necessarily *afraid* of Hayato but he does have a healthy respect for him, not just as a fighter but as someone who lives by a good, strong code of behavior. A man's man, as it were. For a second, the wayward Imawano son's thoughts skip off to his own father. You can almost see the thought bubble with the image of Raizo, arms crossed over his chest, belly-laughing and shouting 'YOU'D BETTER WIN TODAY, BOY! HA! HA! HA'
It's enough to give you a complex.
This might be why, when Batsu turns to see K' wearing an expression that wavers somewhere between disinterest and disdain... he's a little annoyed *already*. His last fight at Taiyo Dome was against Sakura, and for all her trash talk, he knew the girl wanted to be there and enjoyed their fight. Batsu can already tell K' doesn't really want to be here, and something about that gets on his nerves.
Batsu's cracking his knuckles as Hayato speaks, but his eyes are on K' as he replies. "Aa... don't worry, Sensei. I got friendly down." With the 'ding!' of a bell, the announcer yells for everyone to begin. Hopping on the balls of his feet, Batsu grins at K'... and it's a little feral-looking. "I'll do it all nice..." And then he's hurtling himself across the distance to the Beast, fist cocked back and ready to just slug him one right in the face, "...AND FRIENDLY LIKE!"

Getting on people's nerves is something of a talent K' has... a certain instinct that guides him into doing all those little things that serve to piss off those he comes in contact with. It's perhaps why he doesn't move aside quite as early as he could have when Batsu comes rushing in... in fact, doesn't move at all: not in time. He hears the other coming, one yellow eye flickers open to gauge Batsu's strike-- but it comes in far faster than anticipated.
K' takes the hit straight on, face struck aside with a macabre and satisfying splash of crimson to the field. His head stays turned aside a second, shoulders heavily mantled, stance wide from when he'd braced his heels to keep from sliding too far back. Then, with a deliberate sort of slowness, he tilts his head back in the opposite direction with a muted, appreciative grunt and an audible -crack- of his neck. A shoulder rolls once, and K''s eyes-- both of them open now-- focus back on Batsu. The boy spits blood at the student's feet and grins, the cold expression wicked with lines of red.
"...I might even have to stay awake for this one," he concedes, with a widening of that nasty grin. "What a surprise." His right hand tenses a little, metal shifting and grinding as his fingers flex into claws. A sudden burst of crimson fire sears down his arm, and with a spurning upwards swipe K' slings the gathered fire right back at Batsu: filling the air with a wide swathe of flames.
Spitting? Well, now, Hayato is going to have a little something to say about that. A little bit of taunting trash talk... Well, there's nothing wrong with that, as long as one doesn't go too far. But spitting blood at someone, even if they /are/ the one responsible for said blood being in your mouth, that's a bit much, at least for the friendly fight that Hayato intends this to be.
The gym teacher strides over toward K' and Batsu, swinging his shinai down into a ready position. A number of the students in the audience are already putting together pretty good guesses about what's going to happen next, as many of them have felt the wrath of Hayato. "Watch your manners, kid!" And to emphasize his point, Hayato brings his shinai swinging down toward the top of K''s head. He's not swinging with his full force, but many have learned that it's still not a pleasant experience.

Oh, that tears it. If there's one thing that Batsu hates beyond all else, it's casual arrogance. The only person he lets even get away with remotely is Kyosuke, and that's because he knows Kyosuke can back up his boasts... and that they're family, and family overlook stuff like that. Coming from what he sees as an overtanned swaggart with an S&M fetish, the Burning Fighter is just not going to let that little thing go.
When the fire rages at him, the Taiyo student doesn't even seem to NOTICE. This isn't to say it doesn't hurt, it's just that Batsu doesn't seem to care. "Yeah?" he shouts, setting his foot... and then he LAUNCHES himself into the flames, *headfirst*, slamming his skull into K''s chest and knocking both fighters forward toward the ground, crimson flame still licking around Batsu's uniform even as he balls up his fists, straddling K' with a wild look in his eyes. "I'M FULL OF SURPRISES, JERK!" And this is when the beatdown begins... one, two, three, four blows across the jaw, two from each fist, before Batsu stumbles back and gets to his feet, wiping his hand across his lips and scowling at K'.

K''s upwards swipe is, as a matter of fact, right on target to intercept Hayato's opinion on his manners. That armored hand simply -catches- the shinai with a slight jar from the force of the blow, and then spurns it with a harsh outwards push. Watch his manners? K' is neither Hayato's son nor student, and even if he was he probably still wouldn't listen to the man even then.
But in a way, Hayato -does- get what he wanted by his strike. It serves as distraction enough that K' can't deal with the already-unanticipated lunge by Batsu in time. This is not the first time someone has chosen to -sit on him- and hit him a couple times-- and remembering who it was that did this to him last just gets -him- a little annoyed too. And really-- he hadn't been annoyed at all up until now, despite his behavior. He had simply been present, in a physical sense: not seeming to -want- to be here, but not really objecting either. Indifferent in precisely that way that infuriates Batsu. As for his nastiness? K' just likes making people lose their cool.
For a couple seconds, K' just kind of chills on the field as Batsu scowls at him and the audience expresses their approval of the latter's righteous anger. And presently, a hint of genuine amusement drifts up in the form of brief laughter. "You're way too fucking easy," he observes helpfully-- if hypocritically-- pulling himself back to his feet and swiping blood from his mouth with the back of his hand.
Fire sparks along his arms, bangling steadily about his wrists. His right hand flexes playfully, rolling the flames along the back of his knuckles with a casual indolence.
COMBATSYS: K' gathers his will.

Well, catching the shinai is simply evidence of good skills. Hayato can't really fault K' for that. It's something to approve of, really. But a few moments later there's plenty to disapprove of. Not that Hayato is any stranger to coarse language, as many who have been with him when he's angry or drunk can attest. But there's a time and a place for such things. Judging by the frown on Hayato's face, this is neither the time, nor the place.
He comes up behind K' again, not because he wants to make the fight easier for Batsu (where's the fun in that?) but because he's going to beat some manners into K'. Or at least some temporary sullen acceptance. Hayato rears back, lifting up his right leg as he does so, before lashing out with a kick in the ass and an admonition. "Watch your god damned mouth when there's kids around!" Irony is not Hayato's strong point.
Yeah... yeah. Don't let him make you lose your cool, right? Keep calm, don't get excited. Rage just blinds you. All sorts of things Kyosuke has told Batsu in the past. Don't lose your Fonzie, although Kyosuke probably didn't use that exact term.
PROTIP: This is still Batsu Ichimonji.
"WHAT DID YOU SAY?!" he bellows at K', eyes wide and face flushed with fury. Not that K' is wrong or anything; Batsu is easy. Terribly easy. But the problem is that while it's easy to tick him off, doing so is not always smart. He's not exactly the Hulk, but the angrier Batsu gets... well, the worse off the opponent might end up.
Hayato's presence, even the crowd's presence, fade into the back of the Burning Fighter's mind. He has exactly one goal now: knock that somehow-superior-even-though-it's-expressionless expression right the hell off K''s face. "I ain't gonna take that from some ganguro girly-boy wanna be!" Throwing his arms to his side, there's a haze of blue energy that even changes to flickers of red fire -- chi fire, obviously, rather than K''s borrowed scarlet flame -- at the edges, like the corona of a small star. "BRING IT, ASS!"

A flick of the wrists dispel the flames. K' watches Batsu closely, for all he's been nettling at the other fighter this entire time, picking at his nerves and lancing away at his temper. He's paying attention to his opponent, not the CA, and he's not expecting Hayato to come right back at him again-- which is why he detects the man's disapproval a little too late.
He turns in time to catch that kick right in his chest, sending him skidding back with a snarl of surprise. He bristles there an instant, an animal scissored between two hostiles, before his stance abruptly slackens. With a sharp huff of disgust, he turns his back on Hayato again, pointedly: ignoring the teacher in a gesture neither acceptance -or- reform.
"You heard me," he tells Batsu lowly as he turns back to face the student. Hands shoved in his pockets, he considers Batsu with that same dispassionate, indifferent sort of look he wore at the start of the fight: the sort of look that screams a cruel lack of investiture. Far as he's concerned, Batsu hasn't done much of anything yet without getting 'help from teacher,' and as such there is no indication in those cold yellow eyes of any respect or increased regard for the other young man: even despite the current situation.

Now... Remember that part about Hayato holding Batsu to a higher standard? And K', at least for the moment, is being relatively quiet. Hayato can deal with being ignored for now, as long as K' is otherwise behaving. He turns away from K', then strides toward Batsu until he gets within arms reach. "Batsu..." Hayato's free hand lashes out, attempting to grab Batsu by the back of the head, then wrench him forward and slam him head-first into the ground. "What did I just say about language!? Now both of you get it together and start hitting each other!" Ah, sage advice.

Perhaps Batsu erred in thinking that K' would attack him, but just because he hasn't doesn't mean the Burning Fighter is in any sort of a tight spot. After all, he comes from a long line of nonsense ninja who do randomly stupid things for no good reason other than they wanted to. Thus in his ignorant unpredictability, there is strength! Just don't let Raizo hear you refer to it in that way.
However...
%Hayato's sudden reprisal against his use of naughty words catches Batsu by surprise at first, but it also serves as a useful wakeup call. He actually doesn't even process a word the gym teacher has said until his hand is already at the back of Batsu's neck... but that's enough to snap him briefly back to reality. Start hitting each other, huh? Well, that can be arranged.
The forward shove does indeed send Batsu forward and down, but it doesn't lay him flat; instead, the second he hits the ground he's rolling with it, using the forward momentum of Hayato's attack to shove him forward toward K'. His steps falter a little as he regains his balance coming out of the roll and standing, but by that point the Taiyo student is a freight train of forward kinetic motion, red-orange chi flame flaring around him as he lunges toward K' with an overhead hook punch with one flaming arm... and if that hits, he simply bellows "DROP DEAD, PUNK!" and swings his arm *up*... in a fiery uppercut of absolutely epic proportions.

K' almost looks like he's waiting for it, standing there watching Batsu hit the ground and roll with the blow. His eyes fluttered narrow, hands hooked into his belt loops, the boy's severe figure stands there statuesque, absent reluctance or fear for the oncoming blow. Cold gleams of yellow, flickered with that telltale red, are just barely visible as slits past those lowered lashes. Each blink comes more and more slowly, each breath barely stirring him. He looks-- prepared. But...
His hands unhook. His arms scissor upwards. He catches the first blow-- and then it slips through, like a snake down a drainage pipe. He has no defense readied for the second, and he doesn't try. He knows what futility feels like.
He feels something shatter against him. He knows what it is. Dimly, in some dispassionate corner of his mind, he reflects that it'd be better if he didn't bring these things to his fights, even if they occasionally have their uses; they tend to break before it even gets to that point. Like now.
K' twists sharply in the air, slamming back to the ground on all fours in a long skid. A minor rain of blood hits ground a few milliseconds after he does, shaken loose from the bleeding cuts scored across his face-- from where he'd bitten through his lip. He licks thoughtfully at the slow well of blood, considering Batsu's exclamation. 'Drop dead?'
"Nah. But I'll give you another shot," he grants Batsu graciously, morbid as ever. Then, with a flex of his native chi, K''s figure disappears in a burst of speed and shadow. In a movement quick enough to seem a teleport, he crushes the distance between himself and the other, and reappears carving a viper-strike of a blow directly at Batsu's chest.
Oh, not listening to Hayato? That's not going to go over well. He might have let it slide for K', but that's only because while the NESTS escapee was making a point of not acknowlding Hayato, he at least ended up doing roughly what the teacher wanted. Batsu, though? Batsu should know better than to ignore the Burning Phys-Ed Teacher! Or not respond with something along the lines of, "yes sir!", anyway. Hayato is quick to jump to conclusions, sometimes, so it's best not to give him the chance.
And then, of course, there's Batsu's language still. It's all well and good for a street fight with some punk delinquents, perhaps, but not for representing Taiyo on television! "Keep a hold of yourself, Batsu!" It's quite difficult to have both a Burning Spirit and self control, of course... but if it was easy, it wouldn't be worth doing. A reminder Hayato gives Batsu through the medium of his leg, which whips around in a kick aimed to slam into the student's back... possibly sending him right into K''s attack. But hey, whatever doesn't kill you makes you stronger.

The first hit slams home, likely stunning Batsu long enough K' can wind up into the bulk of the attack. When it comes, it resembles nothing so much as a tearing, mauling assault springing from the feline work of all four limbs. That mask of still, controlled indifference and dispassion drop away, the attitude of coldness gone in an instant like paper in fire. K' rips into Batsu a full seven, eight seconds, and when his abrupt burst of violence is spent he slams forwards with a surge of fire: searing through Batsu in a burning rush.
Some distance past the other, K' finally slakes off his speed enough to put on the brakes. Winded from the exertion, it is a moment before he turns back around.
Alright then.
Completely fortuitously for Batsu, his suffering is not compounded; Hayato's kick whiffs entirely because K''s blistering assault has sent BOTH fighters backwards out of the arc of such a blow, the Beast raining punishing blows down on the Burning Fighter with such ferocity that a few of the Taiyo students in the crowd gasp or turn their heads, fully expecting that Batsu will be nothing more than a limp body by the time K' is done. The toll on his body is immense, the pummeling series of strikes impossible to avoid.
However, there's a minor problem in that K' didn't exactly finish Batsu off with that strike, and this makes all the difference.
When the Beast turns back to face the Taiyo fighter, he will probably find him no longer there. Why? Because Batsu -- uniform torn, face bloodied -- has leapt into the air and is, in fact, screaming down at K' with one foot extended, his entire body awash in a corona of pulsing blue energy that intends to quite frankly plow K' into the ground like a meteor strike, Batsu's loud bellow accompanying it: "SHOULDA KNOCKED ME OUT WHILE YOU HAD THE CHANCE! RYUUSEI KICK!"

It is a rather unexpected thing for most spectators to see, if they are not familiar with K''s methods. His initial strikes -are- vicious, yes: plated with blazing fire, undeniably violent and careless of the well-being of his opponent. But -that- is a whole level beyond the everyday malevolence of his blows. It's a level of assault that often leaves those on the receiving end simply... torn wide open.
Unfortunately, it -did- fail to finish Batsu. K' seems to be aware of this, though cognizance comes only slowly past the buzzing exhaustion in the back of his mind and the injury that pulls at his limbs. He turns eventually, glancing up at Batsu, watching the other fighter screaming towards him. He doesn't make an effort to move, seeming prepared to just try and -take- it. But ultimately, there is to be no benefit gleaned from this.
Slammed into the ground in an explosion of force, something audibly snaps in the boy: a sharp hiss indication that indeed, something's broken in there. A flicker of a smirk crosses his face, the expression warring in an odd way with the look of pain-- because he has to admit, it has been a while since anyone managed to actually break bone when put up against him. His eventual rise is slow because of that fact, K' coughing a stream of blood along the way.
He seems completely spent-- at least up until he executes a sudden lunge at Batsu, perhaps intending to capitalize on any lingering instability with a powerful, fire-riddled swipe aimed straight at the Taiyo fighter's jaw.

While Batsu may be on the ropes, he's not out yet. His defense is a little ragged, to be sure; the fiery blow lands on his outstretched arm, searing his sleeve and causing him to wince in pain. However, it's not enough to down the Burning Fighter, who stumbles backwards and then comes to a stop, glaring daggers at K' and wiping a hand across his bloodied mouth. A lot of words flit through his head, but he doesn't say any of them.
Brown eyes still flashing with anger, he tilts his head upward a little and stares down at his opponent. "You're a good fighter, but it's a shame your attitude sucks," Batsu grinds out. For all his faults, Batsu is the type who thinks fighters need to be more than just proficient at smacking people in the face. They should be good people too. That's what fighting is FOR: protecting people, doling out justice. While some of Raizo's questionable parenting hasn't sunk in, THAT lesson has, at the very least. Probably Shizuku's doing, really.
Well... Frenzied bloody screaming isn't really something Hayato can object to. And it does seem to have been rather effective. He hears the snap from K', but hey, that kind of thing happens. Now, if Batsu had been /intending/ to go around breaking some of K''s bones, then he might have had some problems with it. As it is, though, there doesn't seem to be too much left for Hayato to complain about. Even K' went down relatively cleanly, without anymore swearing. And so Hayato strides up behind Batsu, giving him a very enthusiastic slap on the back. "Good job, Batsu!" Perhaps a bit /too/ enthusiastic.
