SNF 2008.01 - Style! Kasami vs Dan

Description: In a case of mistaken identity and ridiculous martial arts combat, Kasumi Todoh faces off against... a man who is certainly not Robert Garcia!? (Winner: Kasumi)

After months absent from the usual Saturday Night Fight competitions, Kasumi Todoh has finally signed up again -- and been thrust right into the main event?! Who does she think she is, Chris Jericho!? ... on the other hand, considering that she doesn't actually have a say in that, it is more /some/ sort of comment from upper management... that instantly goes to her head, of course. She's feeling pretty good about herself today.

She does not make a particular spectacle of herself as she walks to the center of the arena, though, doing one slow lap in the lower area where announcers and officials mill around. Walking up the stone steps, Kasumi turns to the audience, giving them a respectful bow; that's all the playing to the crowd she engages in. She's not really that sort of fighter.

Who could she be facing on this most prestigious of stages, she wonders. Surely it's not anyone she can't handle, but... ...She thinks back to last time, with Kain. Okay, maybe it /might/ be someone she can't handle. Regardless, she plants one foot, then the other, facing toward the middle of the stone arena and waiting.

"Spotlights, gentlemen." Dan says to the official HOWARD ARENA LIGHTING TEAM (Or HALT, as the kids say on the street), and with a shrug, the union workers slide the spotlight onto Dan as he tips his, pink(?!?) derby down across his eyes, and swings an honest to goodness pimp cane while he wears his finest ultra luxurious million thread count shiny pink gi.

He vaudevilles around a bit and makes Jazzhands at the audience, getting them primed and ready for the asskicking he is about to deliver unto the ages here today, before tossing his derby into the hands of a screaming fan(?), well possibly. Hey even if they're not they can make a buck on eBay. The cane he lets clatter to the arena floor and stops his capering, looking across the way at his chosen opponent.

"Huh. What, you're it? Geeze third week in a row I'm getting matched up with things I have no intention of giving it my all against. Man. MAN! SNF is not taking Saikyo seriously! This is for real getting under my skin! Well, whatev. Show me what you got little lady. I'll try to make this quick, it's almost time for Matlock."

Frowning at Dan, Kasumi squints at the crazy Saikyo fighter for a minute, trying to figure out where she recognizes him from... she knows she's seen that face /somewhere/... She gives the Saikyo Master a last appraising look, and then realizes -- oh god, it's /him/. He may look a little different -- a disguise? -- but it's definitely that man. Her fists clench tight, and she closes her eyes for an instant... and then starts shouting.

"YOU!!" she yells. "Robert Garcia! Don't think you can fool me with that flamboyant pink gi and that ridiculous-sounding martial art name! You're Robert Garcia in disguise!" This makes complete sense to Kasumi. ... A lot of things make complete sense to Kasumi. And a lot of them probably shouldn't. "I'll defeat you in the name of my father!" She certainly does not seem to think that the Saikyo Master is someone she shouldn't give her all against.

Leaping forward, Kasumi raises her hands high, shouting, "I'll show you the strength of Todoh-ryuu!" at the top of her lungs. As she nears Hibiki, she swings her hands down in a sword-like slash, sending a series of white energy waves out just in front of her, naming the attack with a forceful cry: "KASANE ATE!"

Dan pffts audibly as he's already being mislabeled again by one of the Todoh brain trust, "Yeah, Robert Garcia. You know I fought that guy once, you all have to be blind to think I'm him. Guy's got more grease in his hair than you've got dumb in your brains. I mean damn. He gets in the bath it looks like the exxon valdez all over again. But hey, while we're going on and on about Robert Garcia and how lame he is and how awesome I am..."

The Saikyo master slides a photo out of his gi and throws it on a collision course with Kasumi's attack. The photo burns up on entry, of course, but its job is done, by the time the waves of chi reach Dan they're moving like a gadouken with the shakes.

"Wh...was that your best? Man I said show me what you got and you're already wasting my time. C'mon! I said show me what you've got, let's not beat around the bush, alright? Seriously Andy Griffith is about to solve crimes. Crimes man. You don't get that kinda stuff in this arena!"

"Quit lying!" Kasumi shouts at her opponent. "You have that same greasy little ponytail he does -- I mean you do -- I mean! It's hideous!" Someday, Ms. Todoh will be in a situation where she is not raging at Kyokugen and is actually fairly coherent and well-adjusted, if painfully blunt and direct. That day is most assuredly not today.

The young Todoh starts to move around Dan, trying to get a feel for his openings -- he doesn't seem to be taking her seriously at all, which makes her job a little easier. Not much, but a little -- and every little bit is helpful. She makes a faint 'hmm' noise under her breath as she starts to examine her options, and then decides that the best thing she could do for herself is get ready for an /actual/ attack if he decides to start taking her seriously.

As such, she steps in again, this time taking a more measured approach to pounding Dan Hibiki's face in. She ducks low, simultaneously swinging her arms up; it allows her to present a much smaller target, giving her a little less to worry about.

COMBATSYS: Kasumi successfully hits Dan with Hakuzan Tou.

[       \\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\  < >  ////////////////////////////  ]
Dan              0/-------/---====|=------\-------\0           Kasumi

Dan gets himself attacked for making big talk about Matlock. As if liking Andy Grifith solving crimes was ever a crime itself. Well. He wipes the smile off his face before shaking his head a little bit. He felt that one. Is he going to let it show? Don't believe it for a second. With one hand he smooths his luxurious gi out and brings the other arm back, crooking the elbow quite nicely, before launching it out.

If she wants Kyokugen techniques, she's going to get them. Of course, this isn't a Robert Technique at all, it's a Ryo technique? What is this nuttery business?

He launches his fist forward, spinning it at an impossible angle and speed as his foot thrusts forward and STOMPS soundly onto the ground. Does he say a word as he's known for? Oh you better believe it.

"SMITE THE FIGHTER WORSE THAN ALL OTHERS PUNCH! DAN DAN A GO GO, BABY!"

COMBATSYS: Kasumi fails to counter Kyuukyoku Tenchi Gadou Zuki from Dan with Messhin Mutou.

[        \\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\  < >  //////////////////////        ]
Dan              0/-------/-======|===----\-------\0           Kasumi

Kasumi brings up her hands, trying to catch that nasty blow that Dan's leveled at her and use it to whirl him into the ground. "The fighter worse than all others?! I'll --" she starts; unfortunately for her, she does not get to finish that sentence thanks to a fist knocked right into her face. It plows through whatever guard she might have attempted, and within moments, she is sent to the ground, sprawled out as though that one punch knocked her out clean.

Fortunately for the /audience/, at least, Kasumi is made of sterner stuff than that, and starts to pull herself back to her feet within moments. "You really think you're gonna 'smite' me with one punch, huh?" she asks, forcing a smirk onto her face.

Dan shrugs and says, "Well I figure since you need glasses so badly you might be weak in other places besides your eyesight. A mistake I won't make a second time. If a punch won't do it, I suppose a kick will have to do."

Dan makes a quick hop back on his feet, before twisting on his hips and vaulting himself into the air. Once again the attack he makes looks quite suspiciously Kyokugen in nature. Is it the fact that it's three aerial roundhouses across the arena? Once again Ryo's image could be superimposed on Dan and it would just make sense. But stolen techniques? No way, it's all original Saikyo Power, baby. That's why it hurts so good!

COMBATSYS: Kasumi dodges Dan's Dankuu Kyaku.

Dan              0/-------/-======|===----\-------\0           Kasumi

This time, Kasumi decides to do something a little more intelligent than try to grab Dan's surprisingly high-power attacks out of the air; namely, she rolls to the side, watching the Hien Shippuu Kyaku knock-off fly harmlessly over her head. "See?! That's Kyokugen! Don't tell me all your /lies/, Robert Garcia!" comes her shout in response, as she wastes no time getting back into the thick of things.

For a second or two, she takes a deep breath, putting her offense in order in her head; she has to dig deep if she wants to beat someone like Robert Garcia Who Is Certainly Not Dan Hibiki At All. "I'll defeat you and score another victory for Todoh-ryuu!"

This time, she goes for a technique that isn't quite so iconic of Todoh-ryuu; the elder Todoh's abbreviated training left a lot of gaps for Kasumi to fill in on her own. In this case, she demonstrates a surprising familiarity with a technique that almost looks a little Muay Thai-esque in its execution -- grabbing at Dan's shoulders and driving knee after knee into his stomach before eventually shoving him away, if she gets her way.

COMBATSYS: Dan fails to interrupt Combo Throw from Kasumi with Kouryuken.

[               \\\\\\\\\\\\\\\  < >  ////////////////////////      ]
Dan              1/-------/=======|===----\-------\0           Kasumi

Dan on the other hand does not take any sort of intelligent measure in this fight. This girl isn't seriously a threat is she? Of course not. He coils down as Kasumi comes for him to throw him terribly. This is probably the worst idea he's ever had in the course of the last twenty-four hours, because instead of his stomach becoming the target it's his pretty pretty face.

Knee after knee buffets his oh so beautiful segalese stoicicity, before he stumbles away from Kasumi looking much worse for wear. He's gotta have a plan, right? RIGHT?!?

Knees to the head are probably the worst thing ever, as Kasumi is aware of thanks to Hotaru a few days ago. She /almost/ feels a little sorry for him, but does not relent; this /is/ Kyokugen (under whatever horrible name it may masquerade!) and she has not yet broken any rules of engagement. "What were you hoping for there?" she asks, her tone starting to get self-superior. "That I'd knock your brain back into alignment?"

Rolling her neck, Kasumi realizes where her advantage is -- and decides to press it for all it's worth. Rushing after Hibiki as he staggers back, Kasumi tries to snag one of his arms with her own; if she can get a good, clean hold on it, she whirls around behind him, and then swings his body down over her back as forcefully as she can.

Unfortunately for Dan, she doesn't stop after once, if he doesn't do something about it. She turns again, repeating the process (taking a little more effort, considering that he's now on the ground) a second time, then begins to spin rapidly, eventually flinging Dan off to the side with as much force as her tiny body can muster. "Haaaa!"

COMBATSYS: Dan dodges Kasumi's Rebound Throw.

Dan              1/-------/=======|====---\-------\0           Kasumi

Dan widens his eyes as the fight comes back into his belly and he girds his loins for combat. Something to that effect in any event. With a mighty grunt he rolls right out of the way of Kasumi's incoming assault, before springing back to his feet and giving a loud hah, that resounds throughout the arena.

He then hops in quickly and sends his foot out like a viper strike, a short and sweet slice to the shefighter's shins. While his foot travels through the air here is a list of other words that start with S, sawhorse, superburrito, surely severe screaming shall surface soon. That is of course from the kick. Yes, that kick that was alluded to before. You know the one.

COMBATSYS: Kasumi counters Light Kick from Dan with Sasshou Inshuu.

[                   \\\\\\\\\\\  < >  ////////////////////////      ]
Dan              1/----===/=======|=====--\-------\0           Kasumi

The infinitely inimical injury intended for Kasumi by the incoming invader is interrupted, conveniently as the person writing for Kasumi runs out of words beginning with I! The young lady ducks low, catching the foot and standing up, probably getting Dan a fair deal off balance -- and conveniently setting him up to take a nasty spill.

But she doesn't /just/ let him take that nasty spill, though. That wouldn't accomplish a whole lot other than maybe a mild bruise, whereas the plan Kasumi intends to invoke is infinitely less inefficient. So that's where those I-words went. The young woman, still holding Dan's leg, snaps a hard kick out toward his chest; /then/ she lets him tumble to the ground, aiding him just a little on his way with a small shove.

"Ha!" she snaps, as he falls. "Reckless and stupid! Typical Kyokugen, even if you're trying to call it something else!"

Dan gets right back up and dusts himself off, "Huh. Still think I'm someone I'm not eh? Well." He shrugs it off and begins hopping on his feet, getting pumped up it looks like, "Alright, since you're such a great fighter who can tell the difference between people. Tell me if Kyokugen can do this!"

Like a heron in flight, flying into one's kitchen and messing up their pots and pans, Dan glides across the arena floor with his arms outstretched like he's about to give Kasumi a hug.

More like, the most terrible hug ever witnessed by mankind. When he gets close he springs his trap, trying to grip up on Kasumi, and turn this thing around. And should he manage to find the fabric of purchase he wishes desperately for, the simple thing he'll do is to pull his foot up into Kasumi's midsection, and fling her backwards. Just like that. That's his big plan for the new millennium. And if it doesn't work, well. Back to the drawing board.

COMBATSYS: Kasumi blocks Dan's Otoko Nage.

[                    \\\\\\\\\\  < >  //////////////////////        ]
Dan              1/---====/=======|======-\-------\0           Kasumi

Dan's plan for the new millennium comes up just short; though he grabs the fabric as he intends, Kasumi brings her legs up and kicks off of /Dan's/ kick, pushing herself out of his grip and sending herself into a controlled flip backward. Her foot still stings a little, as does the part of her that got grabbed -- but it's a lot better than actually getting kicked.

"I'm pretty sure Kyokugen can botch a move by doing it slow and sloppy, yeah," Kasumi counters verbally, giving Dan a tight-lipped little smirk. "You're really not representing your art very well. Futaba did a way better job." Harsh -- though on the other hand, Futaba /did/ actually knock Kasumi the hell out.

Proving herself a Todoh in the truest sense of the word, Kasumi decides to go for exactly the same sort of tactic she started the fight off with. Lunging and raising her arms high, she cries out, "KASANE ATE!" and once again lets loose those waves of energy. You can call Kasumi a lot of things -- and if you start with predictable, you're at least hitting /something/ right!

COMBATSYS: Dan dodges Kasumi's Kasane Ate.

Dan              1/---====/=======|======-\-------\0           Kasumi

Dan sighs a bit as his throw is rejected, and sighs a bit more as he throws his shoulder to one side, and launches himself away from Kasumi's Kasane ate. With a shake of his head he tsks, "You know, I don't know how many times I have to say it to let it sink into your head, but it seems way too many. I guess I'll just let my fists talk for me now."

And into the air he goes, a whirlwind ball of pink that travels in a parabolic arc right to Kasumi's feet, and when it unfurls, Dan is already crouched down with his fistguard shining like a hurricane wind ready to unleash itself upon the world.

"Kouryuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu"

Like a spring he uncurls himself launching into the air with a violent wind following him, no effort is spared on this attack. And for a moment it seems like his luxurious million thread count pink gi is a little bit pinker than it normally is. But, that must just be a trick of the light, right?"

"REKKAAAAAAAAAAAAA!"

Oh yeah, that's some uppercut.

COMBATSYS: Kasumi blocks Dan's Kouryuu Rekka.

Dan              0/-------/-------|=======\-------\0           Kasumi

It finally sinks in that Dan is probably not Robert Garcia when he comes at Kasumi for that uppercut. After all, that kind of thing is really more Ryo's style, or maybe Marco's -- it just doesn't seem like what little she knows of Robert. This allows her to change her fighting style entirely to more directly combat /Dan/ -- and that change makes all the difference.

She locks her feet in place, steeling her body against the coming uppercut. She brings up her hands, closing her eyes... and stops the uppercut dead on them, not even carried the slightest bit into the air. "HA!" she spits. "I saw that!" She certainly feels accomplished /now/.

Stepping forward, Kasumi weighs her options against one another, looking for the best hole in Dan's defense. "Even if you're not Robert Garcia, you're /still/ Kyokugen!" she says, reaching out for Dan's arm. She moves much faster this time, and her sudden flip around to Dan's back comes a lot faster; she's not going for something risky this time. No, she's just applying a forceful armbar, wrenching Dan's arm out of joint. That's some armbar.

COMBATSYS: Kasumi successfully hits Dan with Medium Throw.

Dan does try to get his footing back enough in time to get out of the way of this, but with such forceful leaps, there's always some risk of over-extending yourself. As he gets his arm pulled like a lawnmower cord he starts to think about this fight a little bit.

As he wrenches himself free, he hops away from Kasumi, bringing his arms up in a stance that doesn't even remotely resemble Kyokugen. The Ry is there, but it looks more like a U at the end of that instead of an O. It seems he's, taking a little break. Trying to regain his winning smile.

COMBATSYS: Dan gains composure.

Dan stands there trying to regain his lost smile, and between that and the hair being tied back, some in the audience wonder if Dan needs a cowboy hat too. Regardless of the murmurs in the audience, though, Kasumi keeps her focus dead-set on Hibiki, not letting him have even a moment to put himself back together. "You're not even trying to fight anymore?! This is insulting!" she shouts at him.

And then she comes in for yet another attempt to finish off Dan, this one a little less measured. Reaching right for Hibiki's head, Kasumi looks to snag his neck with her arm, applying a forceful chokehold very quickly. Though she's no Queen of a Thousand Holds, Kasumi proves herself a very adept grappler as she starts squeezing Dan into a 'peaceful' sleep. ... or at the very least, making his neck hurt a whole lot.

COMBATSYS: Dan interrupts Strong Throw from Kasumi with Kouryuken.

Dan              0/-------/----===|=======\==-----\1           Kasumi

Dan smirks a little bit as she comes barrelling in, "Heh. And who was talking about slow and sloppy before?" Once again, the Saikyo fighter curls into a spring, only this time he takes a single step backwards before doing so. This step is all the difference. With one mighty push down on his left foot, he pushes himself up through Kasumi's grip, spinning in his corkscrew uppercut as far as it will take him.

Then he's up and out, landing on the ground and pulling the lapels of his Gi before he smiles at the crowd. Oh yeah, there's that teethsparkle. Well done, Hibiki.

The uppercut sends Kasumi flying, something she /really/ wasn't expecting; she makes a hard contact with the ground, a sickening thud emitting from her upper back as she lands. "Shut up! Shut /up/!" comes her inevitable reply, not particularly well-thought-out but certainly sincere. "In fact -- I'll /make/ you shut up!"

She does not seem to take any particularly aggressive moves toward this conclusion, though. Indeed, all the does is hang back, eyes narrowed at Dan, arms raised up just slightly. 'Come on,' her expression seems to say. 'Just try it.' Her breathing gets slower, more even -- this is the critical moment, and she needs to use it to as great effect as she can.

COMBATSYS: Kasumi focuses on her next action.

Dan does not go off the attack when Kasumi moves back. In fact it looks like he's happy again, considering the pain he's likely in this shouldn't be the proper reaction? Proper be damned. He's Dan 'The Man' Hibiki. He'll feel good about being beat to hell and back all he wants, because he's about to get the Psycho back in Saikyo! (Phrase Trademarked 1993 Dan Hibiki Enterprises, unlawful use will be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.)

Once again he pulls his fist back, in that mock kyokugen punch. Deciding the best course of action is to hit Kasumi both hard and fast. Once again he calls out a nonsense name for it.

"DO YOU VALIDATE PARKING JUSTICE FIST ATTACK! ZOMBIE PANIC PUNCH!"

Yeah, I don't really know either.

Fullest extent of the law, more like... fullest extent of the lawl.

This time, when the punch comes in, Kasumi is more than ready for it. That ridiculous spinning fist with the insane name comes toward her, and there is a glint in her eyes as she grabs it. "I guess I don't validate parking justice," she says, actually playing off of Hibiki's own ridiculous screaming a little -- though even she has no idea what she's actually saying. It sounds kind of good in her head, though!

Whirling around and hauling Hibiki along with her, the younger Todoh slams his body into the ground forcefully, cracking the stone arena just a tiny bit on impact -- she is downright /vicious/ when she has to be. Rearing a fist back, she says, "/This/ is a punch!" quite proudly, shortly before ducking down and ramming her fist right into Dan's head as hard as she can. "Ha!"

Sensei Dan gets up from the attack shakily, looking at Kasumi through bleary eyes, with a nice rivulet of blood pouring down his head. Where there should be a frown there is a smile. Dan Hibiki, given a real fight without all this romantic coaching or chaos agentry has found inner peace. At least, that's what it looks like to him.

To the audience it looks like he's just gotten his ass handed to him. Another rival dojo? It's possible. For now he focuses on one thing. He last ditch effort. He wobbles quickly up to Kasumi, leaving a trail of blood on the arena below him, before he plants a foot on the ground. It's an attack he's done a million times before, but since she thinks he's Kyokugen, he might as well give her the whole Kyokugen treatment, aping Ryo in a last ditch effort almost too perfectly.

His fists go out in a fury while he shouts,

"HISSHOU!"

"BURAI"

"RAI!"

"RAI!"

"RRRRRRRRRRRRAIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIII"

A fierce uppercut ends the attack, punctuated with, "KEN!"

Unfortunately for Dan, his fists do not find purchase. The second he strikes out at Kasumi, she brings up her arms again, grabbing his forcefully; Kasumi would recognize a Ranbu attempt anywhere, even if it doesn't look /quite/ like a Ryuuko Ranbu proper. Forcing herself forward, she whips his body into the ground using her momentum without letting go; finishing with a quick knee drop, she says, "You know, smiling doesn't make it better," in the haughtiest tone she can muster.

She then breaks away from him, turning away altogether. Ms. Todoh seems to think she has this one in the bag -- and no amount of continuous aggression from Hibiki can stop that. It seems Dan isn't the only one finding a measure of peace here.

Dan finds himself on the ground once more, staying still for a moment, before he gives the people what they want. He sits straight back up and shakes his head, "Not that easy, girl. Never that easy."

Once more he's back on his feet, wobbling and shaking with exertion, before launching himself in what is possibly a real last ditch effort. Another of those uppercuts of his.

It's a little amazing how quickly he moves after being so battered and beaten, and it's also a little amazing just how much punishment he's willing to take. The heart of Kyokugen has nothing on the sheer sticktuitiveness of Saikyo Ryuu, and everyone watching tonight's fight can take that to the bank and cash it after asking the teller for a deposit slip and maybe a small envelope after confirming their account number.

The small verbal warning is enough to get Kasumi to take notice; she whirls back around and sees Dan still coming, still putting all of his heart into the fight. Her eyes widen a little, and she says, "... you're the real deal... the true spirit... of Saikyo!!" This does not mean she lets him hit her, of course -- mere recognition of an opponent's true nature certainly doesn't buy /that/.

She takes a few quick hops back, nearly falling off of the stone platform but catching herself at the last moment; Dan's Kouryuken catches only empty air, and Kasumi smiles. "Good work. Close! Thanks for the fight -- and sorry about confusing you with that creepy Italian greaseball." She bows respectfully toward Hibiki, standing back up a little too fast... and just after the fight is called, accidentally falling backward off the platform.

Ow.

COMBATSYS: Kasumi has ended the fight here.

Dan, after launching that attack, falls right on his face, "Nughghghhhhhhh."

Kasumi responds, from the officials' area, "Mbrlfngurfl."
