JINCHUU: The Dawn Beckons                 Sun Aug 12 2007  Seishirou
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The tournament has all the credibility of a mere rumor. A ninja from a nigh-extinct clan hosting a tournament to showcase the greatest talent of the lower class. The highest-paying tournament of its caliber, an invitational with a grand prize in cash rumored to rival that of World Warrior or King of Fighters itself. Murmured in passing conversation, some will have opportunity to hear of the event, named 'Jinchuu.' It is a passing interest and nothing more.

At least, until it begins to rain promotional material.

In both Southtown and Metro City, small folded cartons drop from the sky, marked with a rising sun casting light over a mountaintop. Those lucky enough to catch one and unfold it would find a simple message, delivered shortly before the package dissintegrated into cinders.

Only a few days later will footage from Metro Square be shown on most major television networks, where the first rounds of cartons first dropped. The camera is pointed to the sky, depicting flocks of black birds flying overhead. Viewers will find that same message shot across the screen.

The Premiere of the Exclusive Invitational Event
For The Fighting Proletariat's Legendary Recompense
 - JINCHUU: The Judgment of the Clans -
Coming Fall 2007 on private networks.

No mention is given as to where this tournament might be held, or whom is invited.
At least, until the invitations start appearing, knifed to walls, doors and motorcycles belonging to selected fighters.
"To the invited agent of Jinchuu: Southtown's Pier, Midnight, August 19th. Those who accept will be there."

JINCHUU: The Details                      Sun Aug 12 2007  Seishirou
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
JINCHUU: The Judgment of the Clans!

Signups Start: Sunday, August 12th (Today)
Signups End: Friday, August 17th (Midnight EST)
Opening Scene: Sunday, August 19th
Character Bracket: R1-R2 OCs and FCs, No Alts

ICly, Jinchuu is an invite-only event. However, OOCly, all entries are considered ICly invited. To enter, please use the new Signup Machine in the Pointless Discussion Room. Keep in mind that OOC entry also necessarily implies consent that Seishirou and/or Riko are aware of some basic information about you. This information will be something along the lines of Name, Common Hangouts and Fighting Style, at minimum. Given that ninjas can find out anything about anyone while wailing on guitars, it should be very little trouble to assume this.

Jinchuu will be a 1v1 tournament, with scenario-style fights. (Think SNF.)

KEEP IN MIND: This tournament is structured in the typical single elimination fashion. However, the judgment as to 'who wins' is a (mostly) arbitrary decision which /may or may not/ actually reflect who came through with the most punches. This is because Jinchuu is a tournament less of the body and more of the mind. While most winners of fights will generally advance, they may find their opponents being given a second chance, and maybe even fighting them again further on down the bracket, so it will pay to be clever ICly. Also, this means you probably won't see anyone jumping out going 'IGNIZ WINS... FLAWLESS VICTORY.' after the final blow is thrown, for log purposes.

The event will take place in a single location, with fights in and around the area. ICly, it will be over a continuous period of time. Ideally, fighters should stay in the area until the tournament concludes. However, due to the expected volume and scheduling troubles, there will be sufficient time and chances for losing participants and people with business outside to leave between fights. There will also be extra exhibition matches set up after the first round is complete. Only people who are still active in the event or participating in the ongoing plot (I.E. submitting logs of social scenes to staff) will qualify for inclusion. More information will be released upon the opening scene.

JINCHUU: It Begins                        Mon Aug 20 2007  Prime
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
They had arrived. In spite of all the mystery and theatrics involving the tournament, they answered the call, and came from all over the globe to the people's gathering. He appeared from the sky, with little fanfare. Seishirou Ryouhara outlined the methodology of the event, and all that gathered (save one little girl and one old man) listened intently. For reasons all their own, they listened. Some had personal motives.. and others.. knew that there was too much at stake.

The method is the mind, he pointed out. It is the nature of the people's class of fighters that they dwell in weakness and grow strong there. The only way to do this is to overcome adversity. That is why a great ship was assembled, Seishirou explained. A great ship to house the people's tournament. The Suiryuu, it was called.

Then, in a massive blast of steam, he and his cohort summoned the great ship into the harbor.

But it wasn't going to be that simple, it was noted. Before the participants would be allowed aboard the ship, they would need to prove themselves by fighting for the right to gain entry to the Suiryuu. The fighters were loaded onto vehicles and driven off, each to their own personal scenario, with missions written up neatly on cards for them all.

Soon, they'd find out who was truly the best and the brightest of the proleteriat.

The battle to become agents of Jinchuu has begun.

JINCHUU: Round 1 - Intro (1/4)            Mon Aug 20 2007  Prime
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Summary: The fighters invited to Jinchuu were summoned to Southtown Harbor, as instructed by Seishirou. Suiryuu, a heavily modified ship, was revealed - the site of the tournament. But to get on board, they must first prove themselves. Fighters were shuttled via bus to different locations for the first round. The objective: Get yourself aboard the ship. And stop your opponent from doing so.

!! ROUND ONE MATCH DEADLINE IS: Wednesday, August 29th, 11:59pm

Matches for Round One will follow this post. But before that, please read these FAQs. IT WILL SAVE YOU FROM HAVING TO ASK. :O

1. If you did not OOCly attend the opening scene, you can simply assume you were ICly somewhere in the crowd. Alternatively, your match details may have been delivered to you. Or you could have boarded the tourney bus at a later stop.

2. Most fight setups state where you got your instructions. If you DO NOT KNOW where your instructions came from, assume the bus driver gave you a card with details on your fight. Or one was delivered to you (via kunai or shuriken) if you posed out early/weren't at the harbor.

3. The opening round is a kind of opt-in/opt-out scenario for folks who didn't know what was going on during the signup period. Now you know what's going down, you can join in. Or drop out.

4.  While Jinchuu is set up as a 1v1 tourney, LOSING a match does not always mean elimination. This is a ninja tourney. It emphasises intelligence over brute force. Thus, if you lose your match but still sneak aboard the ship later, you're not going to be kicked out. Heck, doing it that way might mean extra RP. Or you can attempt to bypass your match entirely...

5.  The actual IC grid rooms for the Suiryuu are not finished yet. If you have a match that involves it, use the harbor, an ocean room, or other location.

6.  Again, match deadline is Wednesday, August 29th, 11:59pm. Anyone who has not finished their match will be reviewed. The fighter that has been more active will continue onward in the main tourney, and the other will be put into the secondary bonus round events. If you wish to change your match, or RP something else, please speak with your opponent and Seishirou or Riko/Prime.

7.  LOG. Log/submit all logs, with 'Jinchuu' somewhere in the title. Log/desc them appropriately. A fight must be auto-logged to count. (help log for help on how to use the log system. Bother Megatron if you need any further assistance with the logging system)

8.  @mail match results to Prime (also handling logs). Any other questions, contact Seishirou or Riko/Prime.

JINCHUU: R1 - Matches (2/4)               Mon Aug 20 2007  Prime
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
ARANHA vs. EVA in "LAST CALL FOR SUIRYUU" - Eva, Aranha, you two were actually left behind when the buses were packed to capacity. The driver snickered quietly and said that there would be no return pickups before shutting the door and driving away. Now it's just you and the guide lights of the Suiryuu as the ship disembarks for its first pickup location. However, you might notice a card on the ground, left behind when Seishirou vanished. "To those agents left behind--find a way aboard my ship immediately, and you'll be accepted aboard. If you can stop your opponent from doing the same." It looks like there's a pretty clear runway across the docks. If you can get on top of that houseboat on the far end and jump...and then climb those loading cranes, before swinging on to...well, something...you just might make it. But chances are, your opponent is thinking the same thing. Stop them.

ALAN R.B. vs. MARISOL in "SHIPPING AUTHORITY" - Before the Suiryuu can officially disembark, it has to pick up some supplies for the voyage. For this, it will stop briefly at dock 26 to receive supplies of food, bedding, recording equipment and plenty of sharp, pointy weapons. Your fighting arena? The massive conveyor belt system of the warehouse. The one left gets to ride the conveyor system all the way out to the Suiryuu. Just watch out for occupational hazards--the warehouse's racking is looking rather unstable with all the fuss...

PAS vs. TENMA in "SKYLINE" - While the Suiryuu is picking up supplies for the voyage, a web of cable will be set up between the ship and its feeder warehouse. Just after the battle in the warehouse itself, in the skies another fight will be waged: Two fighters, on that steel web, will be given the task of defeating one another. The one that proves themself worthy will gain the right to descend from the sky web onto the Suiryuu itself. Mile high club, kids. Don't do anything we wouldn't do.

KATELYNN vs. ZACH in "PLEASURE CRUISE" - One of the first stops, the bus hasn't even left the docks yet before you're put aboard a longboat, complete with paddleman, enroute for the Suiryuu. It's just you and one other. Your mission? The smartest and the most agile stays aboard the boat. The other.. goes into the drink. Be careful, if your opponent tries to get back aboard, you may have to step off and beat them senseless in the water personally. Don't worry, you will be provided with a floatation device. That doubles as a garrotte wire.

KENJI vs. HIMEKO in "ON PORT" - You have a ...relatively... easy scenario. The yacht has several anchors and handholds on its more well-protected port side. Heavy, reinforced steel chain goes straight into the water. When you were dropped off from the bus, the Suiryuu was waiting for you. Your goal is to climb aboard using those chains. However, while doing so, you have an additional problem--your opponent has the same goal you do. And unfortunately, only the smartest can get aboard the ship. Your instructions are vague: Prove you're worth the invitation you were given. But...Missile Fist, Hurricane Hime? Those are hero names, right? For you, this should be cake.

JINCHUU: R1 - Matches (3/4)               Mon Aug 20 2007  Prime
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
PRESTON vs. TRAN in "BIMINI RUN" - The Suiryuu is currently a couple miles out at sea - and further with each passing second. The ship is travelling at flank speed. Your mission is to catch the ship. Literally. Thankfully, the bus dropped you off along the harbor. And you've been given a speedboat and an expert pilot. Unfortunately, so has your opponent. One mariner. One man of action. Two speedboats. A long stretch of open water. One goal. You do the math.

SKULLOMANIA vs. NAEROSE in "ANCIENT WAYS" - There is a secret entrance on board the Suiryuu. In the belly of the ship, well below the waterline, there is a hatch leading up into a specially engineered pressurized bay, which leads through a water-tight gate and on into the engine room and onto the ship proper. This way has deliberately been left open for you and your opponent. You're given an oxygen tank, and a diving mask with a headlamp. Your opponent has been given the same. You both have been given explicit instructions: Battle your way through your opponent, and onto the ship proper.

MIMIRU vs. TIFFANY in "ROAD TO JUDGMENT" - An almost comically rickety pontoon bridge has been erected, leading to the Suiryuu's current position some 200 meters out beyond the far western Japanese shoreline. It is a very, very narrow bridge, surrounded by life preservers and all other manner of pontoons, all alit on the very surface of the water. Your goal is simple. Get to the ladder on the side of the ship before your opponent does. As an additional item of notice, anyone who so much as touches the surface of the water is instantly disqualified. Play nice, ladies.

LUC vs. HAKUYA in "ONE MUST FALL" - You guys were dropped at a special wood arena constructed somewhere in the forests of Southtown. You had your orders--the one who can come out on top is the one who wins the right to be an agent of Jinchuu. It's pretty simple. At least, until the arena lifts off. What you are standing on is the Sky Tortoise, a hot-air balloon airship, constructed by Seishirou himself. The pilot will bring you up, and the fight will begin at 9000 feet in the air. You've proven you can fight on the ground. But can you fight on the surface of a cloud? It's very cold, and the air is lethally thin up there. Also mind, though the Sky Tortoise is made of very strong rip-stop nylons and the wood grid atop the envelope provides a platform for fighting, it won't take a whole lot to tear the balloon open. Can you triumph, and then last in those conditions until the Tortoise makes it to the Suiryuu?

NIKOLAI vs. HINATA in "ENTER TIPPIN" - Hinata, you were thrown roughly off the bus in the dingiest, dankest alley ninjas could find in Southtown. You're bruised, dirty, and most likely upset. Unfortunately, your bad day isn't over yet. There's an angry Russian standing over you. You have instructions as to where to show up to be picked up by the Suiryuu. Nikolai does not. Additionally, the Russian mobster has a tire iron, and you do not. Your mission is pretty clear.

JINCHUU: R1 - Matches (4/4)               Mon Aug 20 2007  Prime
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
KAIWEI vs. SOMA in "GET WELL SOON" - Soma Travedi has recently been laid up at the hospital due to his recent research on a new drug in Metro City. Unfortunately, he recieved a special invitation to Jinchuu. Kaiwei will be dropped off at the Southtown airport, with cash enough to secure airfare to America, a healthy bonus, and a chuckle from the driver. Soma will get only a fruit basket and a card with a simple message: "Defend yourself."

SADA vs. ICHIRO in "PRIVILEGED POSITION" - True justice cannot be tainted by emotion. In this case, you were pretty much freely allowed aboard the ship after the bus dropped you off. You were given dinner in the dining salon, and an expensive bottle of champagne. Then you were told that you weren't the only one allowed on board. The person sitting just across from way from you at the wet bar is enjoying the same amenities. Unfortunately, it would be explained, you'll have to prove yourselves to remain aboard the ship.

ARIKA vs. VYLE in "THE FINAL MILE" - You were put on the bus just like everyone else. One by one, you watched everyone get off at their own stops for their own fights. Now, it's just you and one other person aboard the bus. Are you the last stop? "We are enroute for the Suiryuu," the bus driver notes over the intercom while driving in the vicinity of Downtown. "Last one on the bus gets to go aboard." You'd better hope you see that last stop.

ELLE vs. KYLE in "ELIMINATION" - This is the difference between the player and the pawn. Elle, you've been investigating Seishirou and Riko. But because you found out about the tournament the hard way...Kyle was given full directions to the ship and told when and where he could board. You weren't. The sad truth is, only proleteriats are celebrated in Jinchuu. Only the best and the brightest of the working people's fighters will be allowed aboard Suiryuu. Elle, you're one of the oppresive capitalist bourgeoisie. That said, you -were- given a card printed with two words: "Prove yourself." On the other side, elaborate data on Kyle's identity and location. Your mission? Eliminate Kyle. His mission? Survive.

KASUMI vs AISLINN in "PORT OF CALL" - You have the distinction of being the marquee match of Jinchuu's first round. Both of you were given excellent instructions as where to show up. This will be the Suiryuu's final stop for its first circuit around Southtown, where it actually picks up a small (but high paying) crowd of fight spectators for round 2. Your fight will be right in front of the gangplank, for everyone to see. Additionally, there's nothing in the rules against the fight being taken aboard the boat itself. Fighting vessels should be christened only during a battle, anyway...

JINCHUU: More FAQs                        Mon Aug 20 2007  Prime
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Q1.  "I'm in the tourney. Does that mean my character is scenelocked?"

A.  Round 1 is from now until Wed, Aug 29th. If you need to RP with your character before having your match, you can ICly backdate scenes to "last week", before the start of the tournament. Or whatever. You can also RP with other tourney fighters, or RP around the tourney/match setting.

Q2.  "My match is over! Now what?"

A.  Once you've finished your match, you'll probably be on board the ship. Or off it. Or still trying to get to it. But if you're on board, you can RP there - the ship is meant to be an RP environment. At this stage of the tourney, the ship is in the vicinity of Southtown Harbour, so people can disembark and board if absolutely necessary. Note Jinchuu is televised, so there's some public awareness and matches can be RP'd as live or recorded broadcasts. More details will be provided.

Q3.  "OMG?! GIANT NINJA SHIP?!!!"

A.  The "Suiryuu" is a heavily modified luxury superyacht. Approximately 250-feet long. It's outfitted with nice cabins and amenities. Of course, many decks and compartments are sealed off. There's strange machinery everywhere, and arcane sigals etched on bulkheads. Again, more details will be released soon. Actual IC grid rooms will be completed shortly.

Q4.  "What about the NPCs?"

A.  Several matches involve background NPCs. There's a couple of bus drivers, airship and boat pilots, so on. It can be assumed that they're professionals hired for the tourney. Or at least, that's what they say. There's also crew and stewards aboard the Suiryuu - the ship's fully staffed. Feel free to @emit them as you see fit, but if you wish more detailed interaction with 'em, wanna bribe or threaten them or whatever, contact us.
