SNF 2007.08 - Real American Hero! Guile/Maki

Description: Guile and Maki face off in Metro City to show off who's got what it takes to be a true, blue AMERICAN HERO in front of a cheering crowd. The man with the flags on his arms gets off to a dominating start, but will Maki's will to keep fighting pull her through?! Oh, and Todoh's there, too. (WINNER: Guile)

Metro Square of Metro City, the heart of a city that has been plagued with violence and crime for awhile now. While the authorities, led by Mayor Mike Haggar, are always trying to take them out, somehow the crime always seems to come back. But there are allies in this fight against the gangs of Mad City. One of them is none other than Genryusai Maki.

Today, Metro Square is blocked off completely from traffic so that all the onlookers can gather to watch the Saturday Night Fight match that is taking place here. A large fighting ring has been set up for the two fighters to take on one another in, and there's no sign of anything dangerous happening here (and even if it were to, there's a ton of police officers all over, so it would be a bad idea to try something like that.)

"Ladies and gentlemen, welcome to today's match up!" The announcer says through his microphone. "Introducing first, it's none other than Metro City's own Genryusai Maki!" And with that, Maki steps into the center of the ring and takes a bow, waving to the spectators who are looking on. She then steps into her corner and does some light stretching while she waits for her opponent.

There are those whose view is a little bigger than a single tournament or just one city or even a single country. There are those who take on the weight of the whole world in the name of their homeland. One of these, a real American Hero, is Lieutenant Guile. A man known for his persistence, dedication, and hair.

"And the second in our showdown, it's the Real American Hero," there's a slight pause as the announcer fumbles the card that happens to contain Guile's full name and in a panic he goes with what he's got, "Guile!" He gives some of the other officials a nervous look as Guile steps into the ring. While dressed in his usual fair for such public matches, the outfit he's made famous, he's looking in less that optimal condition, sporting a bandage across one cheek and the area under his shirt looks a bit more padded than usual. None the less, he looks out around the crowd and brings his hand up to his head in a salute before waving. He then turns toward his opponent and rolls out both of his shoulders before extending a hand.

It's a Saturday Night fight. The crowds of Metro City have packed around the all-but-official area partitioned off for big fights on hot Saturady nights, and this... is one of them. Metro City is down a hero, as Haggar has yet to gather up the heart again to do what he was once known for - and that's piledriving sharks while tossing crime lords out of fifty stories-high windows while being a loving father to his daughter. A true man's man. They are quick to want to interpose such traits onto Maki in the Mayor's stead! (She already kind of has some muscle on her, for a woman. Couple more weeks pumping weights, and she'd be Haggar's spitting image! Right? Right? Anybody? ...No?)
Guile happens to be an all-American man, and nobody faults him for that regardless of what some military bigwigs would say to certain people in the know. He wears his heart on top of his flag on his sleeve, and the man has the admiration of many for that.
Also, there's Ryuhaku Todoh taking a nap on top of someone's news van, a lazy eye opening every now and then as if to make some misguided attempt at relevancy to the proceedings. Howard Arena officials breathe a sign of relief further away from Metro City, happy that he's not there to give their entire security team headaches this week... maybe? Who knows. He's a mystery and has very little bearing to Metro City and the people who live in it. He'll probably go away on his own accord.
"It's no holds barred, here at Metro City!" The announcer announces, like any announcer should announce, regardless of apparent anonymity in the wide world of announcing! He backs away, an arm out towards the crowd as they get in their applause and obnoxious home-made signs proclaiming their love for Maki, Guile, or in some cases, Guile x Maki. But let's not talk about those people any more.
"Fighters! Face it straight!" And as he escapes the ring to (relative) safety, the bell rings. Time to come out swingin'!

When the bell rings, Maki is already in her fighting stance, tonfa in one hand as usual, and facing her opponent. It's been awhile since she's had a fight here in Metro City, but fighting on her favorite turf usually gives her a fan-based advantage, as she can see (and hear) a bunch of her fans showing their support. That's not to say Guile doesn't have any supporters. Nonetheless, Maki stands ready for combat.

The bell rings and Maki does not that much. That's not how things work... IN AMERICA! His section of the crowd may not be nearly as big, but he's not exactly lost without supporters of his own. In a flash he's moving forward, bringing his fist up in an uppercut aimed right for Maki's chin, causing the flag on his bicep to look almost sort of like its waving.

A valiant attempt on Guile's behalf, but Maki intends to block it. Big emphasis on the intent part. Because before she can raise her guard to block the attack, she finds herself getting slugged in the chin. Hard.

Maki staggers backwards, rubbing her chin and shaking off the dizziness. Looks like Guile's got the first strike, but there's still a lot more to come, and Maki intends to prove that well. She brings her left foot up and aims it at Guile's stomach with a snapping motion.

COMBATSYS: Maki successfully hits Guile with Light Kick.

Moments into the battle, the crowd looks in awe as the 'away' man, Guile, just up and pops Maki in the chin with such clean, direct force that they all give pause with a gasp. Perfect time for the announcer to do his job and say something.
"That's what we like to call BIG DAMAGE!" He beams. He is then pelted by all manner of beer cans as the home favorite takes a bad early start! Boos and jeers echo through the crowds as she does not give back as good as she just took.
"C'MON! MAKI! WIPE THAT SMIRK OFF HIS FACE!" A particularly loud fan yells. They have faith in her! Guile's already taken a pretty solid early lead, from the looks of things. C'mon, that uppercut had to have hurt a lot more than Maki made it look.

The kick comes in fast, and while Guile intends to just take it, he doesn't quite seem to be thinking about his previous encounter with a dirty spaniard earlier. The kick strikes and rather than just stand and take, it knocks him back as a wince manages to cross his face. But just like AMERICA doesn't give up so easily because of being stabbed in the gut by... immigration or something, neither does Guile. He's quick to pivot around on his back heel, extending his fist all the way and bringing it around to backside Maki upside the head. Like a man!

COMBATSYS: Guile successfully hits Maki with Spinning Backfist.

Taking Maki for a spin, huh? Well, it worked. Maki is hit hard in the head, causing her to drop to the ground, but only lands on one knee. She pauses to catch her breath, and then turns to face Guile. Without warning, she drops onto one hand and then spins around in a rather large spin kick!

COMBATSYS: Maki successfully hits Guile with Bushin Senpuu Kyaku.

Guile's just dishin' out the ol' one-two now, isn't he. A killer uppercut into a spinning backfist is a potent enough combination on its own to lay flat any of the generic thugs that roam the streets. People pump their fists in hopes to rile Maki back up to speed as she initiates a spinkick.
"Maki's taken two good knocks this round, folks! It's a fast and furious fray!" The crowd starts to drown him out when they belt out a giant cheer as she starts to put up something of a fight, now... but can she reverse it? Will she reverse it, ready for what Guile has to throw out next?
The elder Todoh's head raises from his napping place. Something just became interesting! (A spare spotlight for him to hog, perhaps?)

Once more the ninja girl is a bit too fast for Guile in his less than primed condition to handle, taking him full on in the side of his torso, knocking him off to the side. None the less, he certainly seems capable of pulling himself back together, even if his midsection is getting a fair bit of attention. The Vigilante lunges forward with both arms, trying to grab Maki by the arm before twisting around on one foot and sending her flying over his shoulder toward one of the cornerposts.

COMBATSYS: Maki dodges Guile's Quick Throw.

Guile            0/-------/--=====|=======\=------\1             Maki

Before you can throw Maki, you've got to be able to catch her first. And when Guile comes to get Maki, she rolls to the side, meaning Guile gets nothing but air. But Maki isn't going to stand there and taunt him. Nor is she going to strike him. Instead she leans against a nearby corner post and catches her breath.

COMBATSYS: Maki gains composure.

Guile            0/-------/--=====|=======\-------\1             Maki

"Maki's not about to stand there and take it, folks!" The announcer says as she slips away from Guile's grasp, but then she... stands there. The fans think that any of Maki's attempts to avoid getting beaten into the canvas or whatever kind of ground they're fighting upon that end in success are plenty good, but they have their own suggestions.
"WHAT'RE YOU WAITING FOR?! GET HIM! GET HIM!" A bum who scrounged up enough money for bus fare to get here yells out to her. They want her to get on the offense and show Guile how she took a bite out of crime!

Guile, for his part, gives the crowd what they want and shows them that AMERICA believes in a good offense. Never give 'em a moment to catch their breath! Once more he charges in, but this time dropping down toward the mat, swinging out his leg in a sweeping motion aimed right for Maki's ankles, but even if that gets past, in a flash there comes the other leg, seeming to jut out just a little bit further than the first.

COMBATSYS: Maki endures Guile's Heavy Kick.

Guile            0/-------/-======|=======\====---\1             Maki

Seeing the kick come at her, Maki braces herself for the impact. Instead of attempting to block like a wimp or move out of the way, she simply endures the attack, which still hurts a little, but in doing so, it gives her a bit of an adrenaline rush. In fact, it's such an adrenaline rush, that Guile might not like what he's in for next.

Maki takes a moment to stare at Guile, focusing intently on him for a moment, and then rushes at him, attempting to deliver a swift flurry of strikes and kicks at a fast rate of speed.

COMBATSYS: Guile endures Maki's Bushin Gou Rai Ha.

Guile            1/-----==/=======|-------\-------\0             Maki

The entire crowd goes silent when Maki takes one of Guile's patented double-sweeps like a m-- er, we'll just say 'like Haggar would.' Maybe the crowd is also surprised that Guile hasn't actually gone crouching sooner. Isn't that what people would consider his greatest offensive and defensive stance alike?
"Look out, folks! Maki's not going to go down without a fight!" This has been an almost one-sided match by all appearances thus far. The crowds wait to see what Maki intends to do next, up against the truly AMERICAN way of Shock and Awe against all would-be threats to the great United States of America - real, perceived, or a mix of both. (Howard Arena respects your individual political beliefs.)
And Maki goes all out. The crowds wait for the end result of it all. Could she turn this entire fight around in one, solid maneuver? They watch as she lays into him with a series of kicks, but Guile... does not seem to buckle under the pressure?!
"I THOUGHT GENRYUUSAI WOULD TEACH YOU BETTER THAN THAT!!" Wait. That's not a fan. Or the announcer. Despite the fact there are a lot of people screaming and this should be of no further consequence than just further noise, the camera pans over to see Ryuhaku Todoh standing on top of another van, overlooking the fight with a certain sense of disdain as he fans himself. That spotlight? It's really hot to stand under.
"Yeh hah hah! Should've sent his beloved to train under me! She'd have whupped this stray dog ten seconds ago!!" So Ryuhaku Todoh boasts. People on the recording end are immediately instructed to ignore him, they'd edit that out in the DVD cuts.
Are any of you going to /take/ that? The crowd doesn't. They start pelting him with garbage, but he stands resolute against their feeble means of disapproval until someone gets a trash can and knocks him off the van. He's taken crowd surfing.
"Do better than that!!" He yells as he waves a fan in support of... Maki? Is this even support?
"Maki's giving it her all, folks! But will it be enough?!" The announcer knows when to keep things going.

As the strikes come in, Guile simply stands there, hardly even moving as every punch and kick slams into his body, his teeth gritted in determination. This is what it's about to be AMERICAN, pushing through the pain, pushing past trouble. Show them what AMERICA is about!
As the last strike comes in, Guile immediately drops down onto one knee before launching up off the ground in impressive somersault, foot sheathed in blue chi as he brings it up right for his opponent's chin, then dropping back to the ground and launching into yet another of the furious strikes followed up by a third somersault, this time aiming to take Maki up by her chin on the edge of his boot, right up into the air, not even coming back into the tail end of the flip until he's seven feet in the air.

COMBATSYS: Guile successfully hits Maki with Somersault Strike.

Try as she may, Maki was no match for that attack. There's nothing left to do for her, save for staggering around a bit and then falling to the ground flat on her stomach.

...Or is she out? Just before she hits the mat, she does a forward somersault and gets back on her feet. Despite the fact she's pretty bloodied and bruised, it looks as if she's gotten another burst of energy. Whether it will be enough for victory is unknown, but anything can happen!

"Ooooh... and... and she's back up!!" The crowds cheer as what should have taken out Maki turns out to do anything but! She's a hero to the populace. They cheer, hoot, and holler for her to walk on up and pop Guile a good one.
"SHOW HIM WHAT YOU'RE MADE OF!" A fan calls out. They all start to chant. Maki! Maki! Maki! You can't go two seconds without her name being said.
Guile is not the crowd favorite here. Can he withstand the jeers from the crowd?!

He certainly has to give his opponent credit, managing to get up after a blow like that is certainly showing off the AMERICAN spirit. But there can be only one winner, and it should be quite apparent that the man known is Guile is practically its embodiment. He's fought in countries where he's been hated, one crowd booing his name won't be enough to desway him. He brings his fist around in another fierce strike, this one aiming for just a straight cocked back punch to the face, a nice knock out shot.

COMBATSYS: Guile successfully hits Maki with Strong Punch.

And this time, she's truly out!

Guile's straight punch to Maki's face echoes throughout not only Metro Square, but all of Metro City. The crowds fall silent as she hits the ground for the last time in this fight. People in the audience gasp. Out in the streets, little children cry as one of their favorite heroes takes a bad fall. In homes throughout the city, families and couples huddle together in sadness and disappointment. One of their city heroes fell so easily... what has happened to the defenders of their city?
This almost comical exaggeration to Maki's loss is punctuated by Todoh, bruised and bloodied by surprisingly capable ruffians, pops up above a mob and yells, "I TOLD YOU SO!!" He then disappears back into the dust cloud as someone yanks at the back of his head and pulls him back in.
The announcer has to break the news straight. "And Maki is down.... our winner," he is reluctant to get into the ring to hold Guile's arm, but this is what he's paid to do as he gets in to do just that with his free hand, "is Guile! Give him a han--"
The booing can be heard for miles. A riot starts to break out. Metro City police are quick to try and contain the situation before it gets too out of hand, as the announcer and Guile alike find a nearly endless barrage of garbage hurled their way.
This city needs a hero.

Being pelted with trash is... well it's actually pretty new for Guile, but the jungles of Thailand were so much worse that there's no reason to complain. As the announcer lets go of his hand to run off to safety, Guile turns toward his downed opponent and offers her a hand. "You put up a good fight." AMERICA is in the heart. HEART!

Very weakly, Maki accepts the hand up, and tries to shake her opponent's hand, albeit very weakly, given that she's half conscious right now and pretty badly beaten. "You fought... well," She manages to stammer out, before staggering backward against the ropes. Almost immediately, several EMTs rush towards the ring to help the injured fighter. Unlike most rioters, since these people are here to help their hero, the crowd steps out of the way to make room for Maki's rescue.

As she's loaded onto the stretcher, Maki looks up and gives Guile a weak smile and a thumbs up. She then looks toward her fans and gives them a thumbs up as well, at which point cheering can be heard amongst the rioters. Maki would tell them to stop booing Guile, but all she can barely stammer is, "Don't... boo..."

Guile's gesture is in earnest. Although the local crowds there are far, far too gone and too chaotic to really take note of anything other than that their heroes have been consistently failing them these days, those watching from afar take note of the display of good sportsmanship. Guile's not a bad man.
This is just Maki's turf. People act accordingly when things like this happen.

Things don't seem to be calming down too much, and Guile's continued presence of being vertical in the ring probably isn't helping matters. This would be just like how things were when Guile got back from Vietnam, that is if he were old enough to have served in Vietnam. Instead these people are just being like those overzealous sports fans. With Maki being taken off to whever, Guile climbs out of the ring and over toward the bunker the SNF crew has run off to. He'll leave when there isn't a chance that he'll have to punch out a bunch of angry Metro citizens. After all, they're still... AMERICANS.
