SNF 2007.05 - Luise vs Aislinn/Sada

Description: Believe it or not, they're walking on air... sort of. High above the Grand Canyon, Sada and Aislinn fight a tooth-and-nail battle against both their opponent, Luise Meyrink... and attempts to neither scratch the new Skyway, nor fall off it! (Winners: Sada and Aislinn)

Sada Asai stands near the main entrance to the slightly ominous "skywalk". Sure, it looks like an invisible plate leading out over the cosmic expanse of the FOUR THOUSAND FOOT DROP to the cold and cruel American rocks far below, but the lighting crews' setups make it look perfectly visible through reflection.

Mostly so, anyway.

While pulling on the protective slippers that the Hualapai tribe insist on, Sada talks to one of the tribal observers (they all got free tickets). "So," she asks the old man with the weather-beaten face, "fifty US dollars to get up to here... twenty-five US dollars to get over the skywalk itself... and ten US dollars to get into the reservation."

"That's right," the old man tells the armed Japanese schoolgirl.

Sada straightens up. "I'm going to tell my uncle about this plan," she informs the man, before stepping out onto the vast glassy expanse. She tries not to look down.

Oh wait. We're supposed to wear slippers on this thing? Aislinn didn't bother coming up the normal way; it's pretty easy for the NESTS agent to get around largely undetected, and while she's no -ninja-... she is at least good enough to get up onto the skywalk undetected. Normally she might wear her usual NESTS outfit but, as a concession to her teammate being from Seijyun as well, she's chosen to wear her own somewhat unique take on the Seijyun uniform (which basically means some leather and black combat boots).

"An interesting venue for this," she murmurs, as she gazes through the 'floor' down to the ravine below, "I hope the glass is sturdy." Glancing over, Ais has little to say as she studies Sada; she's fought Luise before and knows a bit more about her than the other. The weapon is noted, with a faint smirk... Sada had better be precise or some damage is almost certain to occur...

Aislinn strides forward, past Sada, towards the center of the skywalk.

Far from being afraid, Luise is actually entranced as she steps onto the platform, glancing into the canyon below. As a sort of academic dilettante, she has long known about this ambitious project and is quite pleased to be able to see it in action. A fragment of Aislinn's comment filters through the air at her and, seeing a familiar face, Luise smiles at her. "I believe we should be fine... I doubt any of us is capable of exerting enough force to do more than scratch this."

With her special abilities, it was actually not entirely required that Luise remove her shoes for this fight, but she decided to voluntarily, letting her black stocking-ed feet touch the glass. "How amazing this must be at night, under the stars," she murmurs, momentarily lost in a mental vision of the scene before she turns to the two young girls and, in a flicker of blue, gets into her typical stance, torso leaned slightly back... and pointed toes hovering just slightly above the glass surface. "It would appear all the players are on the stage, so shall we begin the performance?" Viewers are hustled off the platform and onto 'dry land' just to make sure nothing... bad... happens.

Sada stares at Aislinn for a moment, as if she is an apparition that has appeared from thin air. Did she do all this to avoid the entrance fee??! But, Sada reasons, SNF is picking up the tab... unless her schoolmate isn't working well with them?

She spins the kama on its chain around, twice, and tosses it into the air, reaching up to catch it as she steps out onto the vertiginious heights of the great horseshoe. "They said it can take, like, seventy tons of pressure per square inch," she tells Aislinn, "and there's some kind of a mass damper. Do you really think we can knock it down?"

She looks over her shoulder towards the warm-eyed Luise... and her hovering. Maybe we will, she thinks, before glancing over to where the announcer is droning. A-sa-i, she thinks with inward hate, not a-sigh. Then:

"FIGHT!"

Sada raises the kusari above her head and spins it several times to build up velocity, taking a step towards Luise as she does so. "If you're floating," she tells the woman, "you're going to run into trouble." She demonstrates how when she suddenly reverses the motion of her hand, sending the kusari spinning up and around her shoulder, seeming to dive down with a furious rattle of chain towards Luise! (Fortunately for the tribe's investment, the weight has been wrapped in edgeless duct tape. This may prevent scratches, even if it doesn't do much about impact.)

Really, she's actually kinda doing it to be flashy. Because she isn't allowed flashiness in her fighting styles.. it must be efficent to the extreme, as little wasted motion as possible. Aislinn raises an eyebrow as her teammate and schoolmate stares. "Indeed," is all she says--all she has time to say, as the call to fight is given... and Sada takes off in a flash. Very well... it seems as if every time Aislinn is teamed up with someone they are in a hurry.

Ais, however, is not. She stands back, actually--moving forward slowly, close enough to engage within a few seconds, though certainly not in the thick of it--and... she watches. Not only Luise, but Sada as well. Aislinn had been intending on challenging Sada at some point, and this will be valuable information indeed.

COMBATSYS: Aislinn focuses on her next action.

While the chain attack certainly does strike Luise, it doesn't appear as if her 'floating' has much to do with it; she attempts to spin out of the way but fails to move her entire body quick enough, the length of chain wrapping around her ankle at the last second and twining about, the weight smacking into her leg with a loud *THUMP*. Luise, for her part, doesn't look terribly put out by this, however.

Bringing her leg up with dancer's grace, the Dancing Butterfly takes the chain in hand with a chuckle. "You should be more careful with this here, however..." Ducking forward, Luise snags the chain and dashes at her opponents... but not at Sada. Rather, she grips the chain and moves *past* Aislinn toward Sada, looking to trip the Silent Assassin to the ground by bringing the chain in a full circle, then letting go. "Allow me to return it!"

Sada grins at the motion from Luise. She doesn't keep up tension on the kusarigama. Instead, she adjusts the grip on the kama itself and takes two steps to the side, waiting for Luise to come around in her loop.

"I'll keep it in mind!" she declares, before yanking suddenly on the far side of the chain -- which may be what trips Aislinn up if she can't get out of the cunning trap in time. However, what she does in response is to take another step forwards and slice the kama up to try and carve a streak into Luise's side!

Hunh. Seems like Sada doesn't mind if she trips Aislinn up... that's interesting. Something Ais will have to keep in mind. However... at the moment, she's got a snaking chain writhing around at her feet, threatening to trip her up. Fortunately there is a way out! And that is... jump. Yeah, it's scary, but what can you do? Aislinn crouches, then leaps, backflipping past Luise.

As she goes she tries to just kick Luise in the back of the head as she flies past--uninterrupted she'll flip once more and land in a three-point stance, perhaps a bit closer to the edge than she would like, but solidly on all the same.

And that kick, should it find something to connect to, will flare with red-white electricity around the booted foot of the Silent Assassin.

While she might not be a physical powerhouse, Luise's speed is not to be underestimated. When she knows her attempt to trip Aislinn is not going to work, she doesn't play around with the kusari; she lets it drop and focuses on bringing up one forearm to deflect Aislinn's kick, a spark of midnight blue flickering against the red-white of Aislinn's energy field. Using Psycho Power to track the Silent Assassin's movements, Luise doesn't even need to look to block it.

Which is a good thing, since Sada isn't going to let up in her attacks either, apparently. As the sickle of 'chain-sickle' sweeps past, Luise practically blurs as she sidesteps around it. If yanking Sada's chain didn't work once... it might work a second time. Snapping out a hand, Luise snags the chain and, with a flick of the wrist, inverts Sada's intended momentum, directing the girl at the guardrail... enough to sting, but not enough to hurl her over the edge.

Goddammit! Sada thinks as she curses people surrounded with fields derived from the inner energy of their hearts or minds. She goes flying at that yank, tossed towards the guardrail; she hits hard enough to send a faint but discernible shudder throughout the long structure...

A small pebble falls down the canyon wall. It will take a while to reach the bottom.

Sada is far more than a mere pebble. She stands up, feeling a bruise on her back, and starts spinning up the kusari again as she steps towards the zippy Luise. "So," she says, "are you both from America, or what? It must be like coming home for you!"

Since, of course, all America is identical. While saying this, Sada twists her arm around, not loosing the kusari; instead, it swings around like a mace on a somewhat longer than usual chain, aiming to batter down against Luise's defenses even as Sada's grip tightens on the kama.

... America? What? Aislinn rises as Sada is tossed at the guardrail; she doesn't -think- Luise would be the kind of person to drop an opponent over the edge but... you never know, do you? Aislinn starts running forward, her booted feet clumping on the glass flooring... and, watching Sada's attack posture, attempts to time her own attack to coincide.

She doesn't say anything regarding America to Sada--but then, she wouldn't normally. She can't deny or confirm... really, she doesn't know where she's 'from'. If she was cloned in the main NESTS lab, she's American; if at a satellite lab, then Japanese probably, by 'birth'. But anyway... back to the attack... Aislinn stops just short of Luise and plants her left foot, using it as a fulcrum from which to transfer momentum as she arcs her right hand up, forward, over, and down, firing off an overhead smash that throws pretty much all of Aislinn's weight and momentum behind it.

That didn't exactly go as planned. Combining psychic senses and physical senses can occasionally give you the advantage, and sometimes... well, it can bite you in the tuchus, as Luise has amply displayed. In a blur of blue-silver she spins out of the way of Sada's attack... only to be forced back by Aislinn's, which connects with bonecrushing force on someone with so little ability to mitigate physical damage as Luise. She doesn't counterattack; it gives her time to answer Sada's question. "I am from Germany," she says, and the barest hint of a Bavarian accent is detectable to back up that claim. "There are no such places as this in my homeland, and so I am glad to be able to see it."

COMBATSYS: Luise gains composure.

"Oh, ha ha!" Sada says, with a wide smile. "Then we should be working together -"

She looks at Aislinn with the same sort of expression. It's friendly. Probably. "Just kidding."

She recognizes that Luise seems to be staggering and going for breath. What she has learned is that you must not allow your opponent the opportunity to recover if you seek for victory, and so, with an aside of "This isn't personal, just so you know," she steps forwards again. She twists the kusari around to swing towards Luise's head; it's not even aimed AT her -- if she stood completely still it would whick over her hairstyle!

However, it might make Luise flinch or pay attention to the chain's motion, which would leave her relatively open to the quick swipe Sada takes towards the fraulein's hip with the blade of her kama.

Sadly, Aislinn can't really give a friendly expression in turn; retracting her right hand, she backflips once, twice... then gives Sada a neutral expression. Aislinn has never been much for 'friendly' banter... usually she only starts gabbing when she's riled up. Which she isn't, yet. Standing somewhat close to the edge of the platform again, Ais forgoes another attack--instead, calling power.

Power that seems to surround her like a heat field, making her image waver if looked at... her legs spreading to shoulder width, her knees bending, right fist pushed into left palm. Let's see what Sada can do... Aislinn was pretty handily defeated by Ms. Meyrink before. The kusari-gama is an unusual weapon, fairly exotic even amongst Japanese martial artists--they seem to favor the sword, staff, or spear...

COMBATSYS: Aislinn gathers her will.

Sada's gamble pays off, in its own way. Luise decides to play it safe while she's in a dangerous situation up on the terrace, and when the kusari comes for her, the Dancing Butterfly 'catches' it, wincing in pain as the weight slams into her palm, but seeming none the worse for wear and she lets it drop. "Pardon me just a moment," Luise says to Sada with a faint smile, before dropping a step back and sweeping her hand in an upward arc, from ground to shoulder height. In a flash of blue, an energy form in the shape of a butterfly flickers out from that arc, flying across the distance toward Aislinn with considerable speed.

Sada's head turns to look at the butterfly as it goes whizzing past her towards Aislinn. She then looks back to Luise, eyes narrowing slightly. The faint feeling of resentment merges with the traditional desire for battle, and even that urge to HURT, as she says, "Oh, sure. Hold on -"

After that, she draws the kama-wielding arm back in an obviously telegraphed move. However, this doesn't mean that the strike that comes in - a simple, brutal slash down along the woman's body if she doesn't get out of the way - is any less brutal! Only that it is easy to see coming -- if she looks.

COMBATSYS: Aislinn blocks Luise's Sharp Quartet.

Nnh. Recognized as the more dangerous member of this little team-up? Perhaps... Aislinn's eyes narrow and, as the 'butterfly' makes its way towards her, she raises her defenses; the butterfly slams into Aislinn's arms and forces her backwards, staggering, wisps of energy rising off her forearms. That wasn't particularly pleasant for her, but far worse than if it struck dead-on.

And with Sada already headed in, Aislinn is just behind her--running forward to make up the distance. She won't be able to make it to Luise before Sada, or even at the same time--but that's already, as she intended on going overhead anyways--leaping up and extending her body into a full-on dropkick... and once again her feet flare with red-white power, that streaks back to sheath her legs to the knees.

COMBATSYS: Luise endures Sada's Deep Strike.

Taking a deep breath, Luise thinks this scenario over. She could simply dance out of the way of both attacks, and perhaps that would be the smartest way to handle the situation. But some part of her tells Luise not to do that... perhaps some instinct that comes from watching other, less cautious fighters and their way of doing things. So when Sada comes in for her telegraphed attack, Luise... hands it to her, the blade of the scythe slicing a line of dark red across the Butterfly's exposed midriff... but not knocking her back or away. "Nicely done," she compliments.

But then there is Aislinn to consider, and Luise decides that it's time for a power play, or nothing. Breaking free of her deadlock with Sada, the Butterfly 'pushes' away, using the breakout as a sudden burst of momentum. Reaching up with one hand, Luise aims her grip along the path of Aislinn's leg, the kick shearing down her arm and into her torso in a flicker of red-white... but it does let her get a sudden grip on the Silent Assassin's throat. "Let us dance the minuet," Luise says, inverting her momentum and slamming Aislinn into the ground headfirst... before suddenly letting go and, with concentrated bursts of Psycho Power, 'lifting' Aislinn from the ground as if she were weightless. Countless tiny energy 'butterflies' pelt Ais' form, until Luise, floating herself, raises one hand and blasts Ais away with a burst of concentrated white light. It's certainly a pretty lightshow... but at the end of it, the Dancing Butterfly is bleeding and breathing quite heavily... perhaps a tactically inadvisable choice after all.

"--thanks," Sada says, looking vaguely disturbed at the ease with which Luise takes the blow. That makes her surreptiously check the kama before flicking the traces of blood over the edge of the walkway.

Meanwhile, the initial pebble hits the ground, part of it disintegrating into dust from the force of the impact.

She considers what she should do here, even while Luise goes for a brutal tackle on Aislinn. "Your style's very beautiful," she says, twisting the kusarigama up closer as she faces the battered woman. "But - you may be outmatched!"

Mostly, she thinks. Sada is quite certain that she's done all the work here.

She twists the kusari around again, although without spinning it up greatly. She twists it forwards instead to try and wrap it and the chain around the lower legs of the woman and yank them out from beneath her; of course, this may be doomed (especially if she really CAN float).

Not even Aislinn--who has wonderous powers of pain ignorance--can ignore this. What was to be a powerful strike instead... is turned into a world of pain. The grip on her throat is only momentarily noted... because suddenly she's in the air. This by itself--being suspended nearly invisibly over the Grand Canyon--could be heart-attack inducing. But the symphony of pain that is played out via Luise's command of Psycho Power is -extraordinary-. Aislinn simply cannot prevent her body from writhing in pain--and then she's dropped, landing with a hard *THUD*. It's all she can do roll away, gasping, willing tears not to fall from her eyes...

She's going to need a moment to recover from the wash of pain, a moment while her cybernetic systems do what they can to damp the pain response, to make her muscles stop twitching--and to get her up on her feet.

COMBATSYS: Aislinn gains composure.

It's no small amount of pain that Luise herself is in, either; she takes no chances with Sada's attack, blurring backwards out of the way of the incoming chain with such speed that she's well out of attacking range afterwards. But this seems to suit her fine, the Dancing Butterfly merely standing -- well, perhaps 'hovering' -- in place and collecting herself once more, her breathing returning to a normal speed, but the bleeding wound on her tummy not helping matters at all. "While something can be said for adrenaline rushes," she adds, with a faint smile, "I am in no hurry to repeat the steps of that particular dance."

Sada feels a quaver in her gut as Luise moves in that way that approaches the unnatural. Settle DOWN, she tells herself, she's just moving fast. It's chi, they do weird things with it. They still lose just as bad; ask Mike Haggar.

She brings the kusari up close and lets the kama slide out of her hand. "Yeah," she says, "it looked pretty harsh." She looks past Luise, towards where Aislinn is twitching. She feels some sympathy. Not very much, though.

She spins the chain with the kama out several times before advancing on Luise, slinging the weapon back and forth in a half-dozen swift, cutting slashes, as if trying to clear tough bamboo directly in front of her and give her a greater field of fire. Of course, in this case, she isn't cutting bamboo, but butterflies. "So show me what you can do!!"

... alright. Alright. Aislinn has control of her body back. The last of the twitches are gone. It's... is it payback time? Perhaps it is... Sada's assault is particularly wide-ranging, not something Aislinn wants to get involved with. So instead she circles around, forcing still-aching muscles to move as she dashes around in that wide arc... and once she's at a point where she can't be hit by Sada's slashing attacks she lunges forward.

Practically flying over the glass surface, Aislinn clasps her hands together and then thrusts them forward, bracing with bent elbows as she tries to power herself into Luise's back. But she's wary--Luise ripped her up with that counterattack and that's a hard thing to forget.

Perhaps Luise has been trusting too much in her ESP this fight on the defensive for it to do her any good. As Aislinn tries to get her from behind, the Butterfly pivots, pressing both of her hands into the Silent Assassin's... stopping the blow from hitting her exposed wound, but not necessarily dulling the force of the attack much. The problem, of course, is that she has to effectively forget Sada for a moment to do this. When the reaper comes, Luise feels it; the lone slash in her midriff is joined by a number of other lines of blood red, flecks of black cloth from her jacket also flying into the air. It's not a pretty sight. But perhaps she can use her lack of fear of heights to her advantage compared to the others. Reaching out a hand, she tries to grab for Sada now that she's close by... and effectively slings her through the air toward the edge. It's not really hard enough to make her fall off... but if Sada panics and believes it might, maybe that will work to Luise's advantage.

Sada grabs the kama out of midair, and when that hand comes towards her, Sada strikes down towards it...

She choked up too much on the chain. The blade whicks harmlessly by Luise's wrist, missing it by two inches. She is then suddenly grasped and thrown - she goes limp as she flies, eyes going wide as she looks down at the glass and the /hellacious distance below/. Is she going for the edge is she oh god -

She hits the side of one of the rails and bounces, slightly, landing on the glass and skidding as it shudders faintly. She scrabbles for purchase, her skirt landing in a manner that may please SNF fans with zoom lenses located down in the canyon itself, but it may take her a few moments just to get back up to her feet. Accursed natural fabrics in the Seijyun uniform!

Aislinn rebounds, while Sada is unsuccessfully attempting to counter Luise's grab--the impact, even blocked, is enough to make her bounce back a few feet. Hnn. Well, there's not much to do here in this case--momentarily, she is the only one facing Luise. But that's alright, she can handle that, no problem.

In this case... she's going to try to force Luise to weather a storm. Almost literally. Aislinn turns away, winding up, bracing with her rear leg.. then she pushes off and -spins-, her arms suddenly held out at shoulder height, hands clenched into fists, and she's spinning right for Luise like a whirlwind... which is where the name of this attack comes from: the Whirlwind Lariat.

Luise makes an *attempt* to get out of the way, but in reality she's too exhausted and too injured to really make any sort of passable defensive effort, even with the sudden burst of Psycho Power-imbued speed she pours into her defense. All it does is make things worse; Aislinn's corkscrew motion combines with the twist of Luise's attempted dodge to send her skidding across the platform toward the edge of the canyon.

It's a bit before she stands up, not looking all that good. However, she does favor Aislinn and Sada with a faint smile. "Well played, ladies. Let me celebrate your victory with this final fanfare." Around her extended right hand, a glittering nimbus of bright white power begins to gather, glowing intently. With her last act, Luise whips her arm up in a vertical arc, much as when she attacked Aislinn before... but instead of a butterfly, she unleashes a massive 'blade' of pure white Psycho Power, looking to cleave both of her opponents in two. It's a good thing the energy is psychic... otherwise, there's a good chance NOBODY on that platform would be walking out of here.

Afterwards, her energy spent, Luise collapses.

This really is a nice person, Sada thinks, before her eyes widen at the gathering power.

Sada thinks back to her past.

She sees herself exploding and flying backwards away from the musical power of Arika.

She sees herself thrown into a tree by the raw electrical might of Elle's peculiar attacks.

She sees herself thrown flying backwards by a dessert cart.

She sees herself thrown four yards by Yurika's twisting, spiralling cyclone of tragic and cyclonic music.

She sees herself, most recently and bitterly, flying -five- yards (she thinks) and skidding over the sod of Seijyun underneath the power of Miu's peculiar and unnatural attack, with what Sada has secretly dubbed her 'Evil Energy'.

Sada makes no efforts at a fancy defensive maneuver, and lands forwards, stomach pressing against the tempered glass as the wave of psycho power washes over her. She looks up a moment later, as if to check and make sure that it's not about to double back and scrape her off the floor!

COMBATSYS: Sada takes no action.

It's safe to say Aislinn fears the bite of Luise's power; Psycho Power makes her head buzz unpleasantly, she's not used to it. So she tries to get out of the way... but she, too, is tired, and zigs when she should have zagged, and is bisected cleanly by the blade of energy. It doesn't -impact- much... physically, that is, it looks like it just passed through her. But after a moment, Aislinn shudders... and falls to her knees.

At least the fight's over; gives Aislinn some time (and she'll need it) to get back to her feet. She wants off this damn thing. Fighting up in the sky is NOT her bag and SNF has made her do it -twice- now... next time some SNF official is going off the side and that's no joke at all.

Sada rises, a little uncertainly, and gathers up her kusarigama, wrapping some of the chain around one arm. Wow, she thinks; we won!

Well, I won, she thinks further, looking over towards Aislinn. "Good fight," she calls towards the woman, leaning her hip against the railing for now. She does not want to topple over the side of it in some sort of skidding stumble, and she needs a moment to put her head back together. At least she's taking no aggressive motion. The fight's over!

She hopes.

COMBATSYS: Aislinn has left the fight here.
