SNF 2007.05 - Physical! Fio/Ryuujin v Makoto

Description: Olivia Newton John has sent a DMCA takedown notice to the muck for misappropriation of her trademark song. So... Let's Get _______! (Winners: Fio and Ryuujin)

The primary gym serving Southtown (which is to say, the one most likely funded aggressively by Geese Howard) is a fairly expansive one, with all manner of equipment ready for health nuts, nerds who want to de-fat themselves, and aspiring fighters. One room, however, is relatively bare, having mostly mats; there are some pieces of exercise equipment scattered here and there around the edges, but the draw of this room is clearly the sparring ring.

Fio arrives at the appointed place a little early, having spent all last night getting everything together rather than waiting; the soldier girl always does at least one equipment check before every operation, even things as simple as Saturday Night Fights -- after all, no one wants to get caught in a bad situation with no options, right?

Trivia: She also usually does at least one load of laundry beforehand. Gotta have something clean to wear /afterward/, right?

What might be surprising to Fio is that, despite her early arrival, her apparent partner is already seated upon the matt. He makes a point to come a couple hours before any match is to be set, to meditate and gather his focus within the calm, ignoring the cameras and bustling crew setting up around him. But he rouses upon the mercenary's arrival, glancing over a shoulder before rippling to his feet in a smooth motion. The long braid of hair, topped with a somewhat dangerous looking bladed ornament, swirls behind him. He turns towards the significantly more petite girl, heels together as he offers a formal bow. "You must be Fiolina Germi." How he got her full name might be suspicious, potentially, if it was never documented. "I am Ryuujin Hyaku. I shall be your partner in this exercise. I look forward to working with you." He then begins a regiment of stretches that are almost inhumanly complex, twisting his entire body around while heavily leaning forward, in a manner that hints towards disturbing range of motion. Such will be sustained, as well as any conversation Fio would care to have, until the match is ready to begin.

Makoto is right on time and still, somehow, the last one here. It must not be her day.

Makoto completed most of her stretches before entering the sparring room itself. There was all the nice equipment outside; she just had to try one or two of them and then finish up her exercises. As such, when she barges in, she is ready to go immediately, e ven before she's somewhere where the cameras can see her. She has entered Saturday Night Fights before, but never has she been alone against multiple people. It's something new, and she hopes she doesn't screw it up. She feels really good about herself, though, so she's assuming she won't.

Makoto walks quite calmly into the sparring area, dropping into her combat stance almost immediately - left foot forward, right back, with the left hand raised and right balled into a fist. Only then does she look over her opposition - a soldier and a tattooed man with dragon symbols, neither of who she knows. Figures. "Well, /I'm/ ready," she calls, more to the crew than them.

Fio doesn't get /too/ much time to talk to Ryuujin; when he introduces himself, she bows back after a brief moment of minor culture shock, then says, "Yes, I'm Fio! It's nice to meet you!" That is pretty much all she says before Makoto comes in; taking a second or two to do a couple brief stretches, Ms. Germi drops into her own military-style combat stance and gets ready. "Let's go!" she says to Ryuujin, before deciding to take the initiative herself.

Her technique is simple, though it may be surprising considering her relatively slight frame; rushing forward, she tries to catch Makoto by the neck with a clothesline, and -- if successful -- flings her down to the ground, along with something else. What that something else is, of course, only becomes apparent a second later when it explodes into fire as Fio continues to run.

"Makoto. I am pleased to meet you. I'd greatly like to see the strength of the heiress of Rindoukan." Apparently having no issues with gender confusion, a similar bow is given in her direction, even if Fio appears nigh-bristling to begin the festivities in contrast. He is somewhat more leisurely in his assault, flanking from the right as the mercenary's grapple is unleashed. Ryuujin's own attack is rather brutal, and would be attempted after Makoto's beginning recovery or post-defense. Lunging out, two vicious strikes with extended fingers are offered to her chest, each aiming for a vital nerve cluster that would likely be rather uncomfortable. Before backflipping smoothly, attempting to clip the smaller girl in the head in the somewhat evasion motion, to put some distance between himself and the powerful fighter.

Makoto returns the bow almost immediately before the match starts, a formal one, long-practiced from years of karate. She does not speak, though, because she expects to be rushed any moment now -

And so she is. Makoto rolls forward, literally under Fio's outstretched arm, which saves her from an explosive injury; she is actually very glad to be well out of the way of /that/ one. Unfortunately, she comes up from her roll right into Ryuujin's finger thrusts, which are hard enough to actually cause her to stagger back. They really do hurt!

Still, Makoto isn't going to sit around all day. She leaps into the air almost straight up, and at the apex of her leap, Makoto extends one foot. As she falls back down, she uses both her strength and the momentum from the high jump to try to plant it firmly on Ryuujin's back, sending him sprawling and her springing off his back and away, toward a wall.

Rather than get disheartened by Makoto's quick thinking, Fio whirls around and gets ready for the next attack! It doesn't come toward /her/, mercifully, but rather toward Ryuujin -- this makes her think she's got a nice window of opportunity to really start in on Makoto. So, of course, she does -- this time, she whips out her tonfas and rushes in again -- evidently, 'tactics' isn't her primary forte.

"Fio, on the move!" she shouts, perhaps making a poor choice in announcing her assault before it happens; the question is, of course, if Makoto will have the opportunity to react to it, as the aristocrat-turned-soldier does a series of wide, rushing sweeps with her tonfas, aiming at different heights to try to keep the Rindoukan master from getting out of the way.

There's a significant chance that Ryuujin can evade this particular assault, which is dutifully attempted. A vicious lunge is taken, perfect and precise, but the flitting girl happens to be too fast for his own compensation and he's nailed directly in the spine. Such agony is... well, not that bad, she might be unhappy to find. He slams his face into the ground, rolling to a crumpled stop and ending up sprawled in the middle of the arena floor. For a split second the urge to writhe comes, before his mind resettles into a serenity. The pain melts away, and the spasms of his muscles cease. Although he is by all means injured, he pushes himself carefully to his feet during Fio's next attack with little downtime and only mild tension across his body. He can control how he reacts to the damage, even if he cannot negate it. "...Ah. So that is the true strength of Rindoukan." Zero strikes significantly harder, but such a statement means little when others are compared to his sensei. He simply rushes forward anew, trying to weave a leg beneath Makoto's own and quickly take her down with a vicious lunge, and hopefully deposit her uncomfortably on the floor.

Makoto doesn't even try to completely evade Fio's tonfa. All she does is bring her left hand and arm around to interpose it between the weapon and her torso; her arms are tough from years of learning to block properly, and can better handle it than the rest of her. The beating is going to give her bruises, but she barely feels it yet.

"The true strength of Rindoukan is the solid strike!" Makoto declares; other people might hit harder, but she's learning still. Ryuujin manages to snake a leg between her own in a maneuver that should send her sprawling, but Makoto turns the forward fall into a fast-moving punch as she drops, rolling only after striking another solid blow and getting back to her feet.

Fio is one again spared utter, brutal agony; this prompts her to try a very, very different strategy, when coupled with the almost nonexistent damage her tonfa strike did. Namely: Backpedal. A lot. She pulls herself to the far edge of the gym, and starts fumbling in her pockets for /something/; the first thing she finds is her Webley service pistol. The second thing she finds is a small clip of ammunition marked 'EMERGENCIES ONLY.' Given this is a Saturday Night Fight, she expects that she might be able to get reimbursed, so...

...here goes nothing! Popping the clip in, Fio aims for Makoto's legs; the reason for this becomes apparent when she actually starts /firing/, and the recoil knocks her on her butt after four shots. Whatever ammunition she's using, it's probably -- if that kind of result is any indication -- for blowing through tanks... but, as we all know, a trained fighter is far more dangerous than a tank.

Regardless of what happens next, she takes that split second opportunity to rub at her poor, fallen-on butt and go, "Ow ow ow ow ow..."

The blow impacts Ryuujin cleanly within the stomach, and he goes skidding about three meters backwards. His entire body doubles over, and the expression upon his face is most definitely scorching pain. Either limb trembles, before he again slowly gains control of himself once more. Blood is wiped from his lip; Given he was hit in the stomach, her blows are rather significant. He tore the lining at the top of his stomach, and coughed some into his mouth. The strike to his spine is radiating numbness, but it's only temporary trauma to the discs. Like a specialist doctor, he effortlessly pinpoints his own symptoms. Such is the power of Onryudo, even if mayhaps none other can manage it. "Your strikes are the hardest I have encountered in my public career, if not on par with my sensei. I appreciate his conditioning in this situation. I shall show you the peak standard assault in my own brand in response..." And then he rushes forward, shooting into a blur before both hands strike out. Both attempt to hit Makoto -- in the /exact same spot/ he did with his initial Black Drake, where the nerves are already sore. If it hits, she'd find they connect to the arms, which could inhibit her punching force. More bothersome is a sudden twist and high-impact sidekick, every ounce of kinetic force mustered to end in her being explosively blown backwards, even if it's mostly show. It wouldn't add much to the overall damage of the attack.

All of a sudden, everything starts to go wrong.

Makoto is not afraid of bullets. She's stood there and taken them before; they sting, but to be honest, she's more worried about being on the wrong end of a Hadouken. She still tries to get out of the way, but it's more out of habit than anything else - and at this, she fails miserably, the rounds striking her body and actually sliding her back across the ground like she was being bombarded by punches.

The pressure point techniques are something that she does not deal with on a regular basis, and they too are effective, causing her to grit her teeth in determination to keep standing there. That doesn't work either, and the sidekick sends her flying to literally hit the far wall of the sparring area and bounce, landing rather heavily on her front.

Makoto gets up only slowly, and keeps her distance, ready to dodge or block. More importantly, this gives her a chance to catch her breath, to let the points of pain from the pressure points subside and let her get all the feeling back in her arms; Makoto breathes deeply to clear herself.

COMBATSYS: Makoto gains composure.

Fiolina is a very good shot -- and when she sees Makoto slide back across the ground, she can't help herself from smiling. "All right!" she exclaims, staying back; she notices Makoto's hanging back and taking a breath, which means she has to figure out a new course of action. (She, of course, was expecting Ryuujin to get brutalized again.)

She decides to hang back rather than advancing in -- after all, if Makoto's taking a breath, it means she could easily get punched in the face while dashing toward her -- and, after a few seconds of consideration on just what she should be doing, reaches into a pouch on her belt and pulls out a pair of mid-sized cylindrical objects... and a teddy bear? How did /that/ get in there? Oh well, she thinks, briefly cuddling her childhood 'friend' while simultaneously tossing a pair of incendiary grenades at Makoto as hard as she can. It looks like she intends to actually /hit/ her opponent with them, in addition to having them explode all over.

"Hmm." Ryuujin didn't anticipate his technique would land as powerfully as it did, but Makoto had likely underestimated the effectiveness focusing on a single spot might possess. Adding burning ordinance to this fight is probably dangerous, but doesn't seem to stem the dragon god in the slightest. He ripples forward anew, shifting one of his feet across the ground and attempting to lock it behind Makoto's knee. His other arm would try to twist her wrist, doubling her over. A vicious knee would be offered to her stomach, before his free hand strikes out towards the back of her neck in an attempt to send her face-first with the potentially scorching matt, likely lacking breath and with a sore limb to boot. He doesn't fear her, or any potential retaliation; That much is certain.

Makoto does not see the teddy bear. Be glad. She would find a way to rib Fio about it.

This is because her attention is taken up by the fire bombs; she hasn't seen those before, but Makoto knows better than to stand near objects being thrown at you in a fight. She hits the ground diving, and the flaming bursts go off behind her, causing her to startle as she rises. Are those legal in a Saturday Night Fight?

After a few moment's thought, she can't think of a reason why they wouldn't be. She is a little too occupied to say something, though, because Ryuujin is coming in with a grab and drop; Makoto ducks down in preparation to uppercut him as he approaches, but she finds the knee in her stomach makes her go down a little too early, and she is introduced to the mat face-first shortly thereafter. It takes her longer, this time, to get up.

OK, that was a bad idea. Fio decides that she might need to get up close and personal again if she's to have any success again; fortunately, she knows just how to do it, too, though it does require her to put the teddy bear away. Wouldn't it be amazing, she thinks, if she managed to land the last blow of the match? It'd certainly be a good start to her career doing /this/ sort of thing -- yes, she resolves, she must! Leaping up toward the ceiling and grabbing onto a section of exposed piping briefly, she swings back and forth once, trying to get just the right amount of momentum --

-- and then falls, perhaps a little too slowly, toward Makoto's fallen form, feet first. "Hyaaaaaaaah!" she yells, loudly, as she flies downward toward the mat.

"Ah... I got lucky." Ryuujin comments when Makoto strikes the matt, housing absolutely no arrogance or even happiness that the maneuver succeeded. "I attempted to prevent your further intervention, but I did not expect it to be by such a razor margin. You truly are a spectacular combatant." Even if he's quite happy to be complimentary and humble, that doesn't stop him from unleashing a vicious kick towards her ribs, trying to send her stumbling backwards if nothing else. Fio's... peculiar antics are mostly ignored. He had not anticipated such an unpredictable ally... She could of ignited or blown him up a couple times by now.

Makoto may be slow, but she /is/ still rising, and Fio doesn't encounter a prone Makoto like she might have been hoping; she is about halfway up at that point, and turns it into a half-step dash forward to avoid being crashed into by the diving mercenary.

Ryuujin's comments register. She's just too busy to respond. At least, to respond verbally; she strikes forward at the same time his foot does, causing her to go almost nowhere and giving her a good opportunity to deliver a solid strike of her own. "Haa!"

Fio snaps her fingers and mutters a quiet, "Darn!" as the Rindoukan master dashes forward and out of the way of her diving strike. She looks at Makoto, and tries to figure out what she should do -- the Rindoukan heiress is /really/ tough, that much is certain, and Fio feels like she's way, way out of her league. However, there was /one/ thing that worked before...

She looks down to that heavy pistol, and after a little deliberation, decides -- why not? The Webley comes up a second time, and Fio actually /leaps/ into the air before firing it down toward Makoto three times; this is revealed to be an exceptionally bad idea when the recoil sends her leap out of control, and ends up almost slamming her into the ceiling before she falls slowly back down to the ground.

The block impacts his ribs, and Ryuujin mentally counts one as cracking. Not as bad as he thought. This is as he strikes the ground once more, twisting around before kipping up in an admittedly impressive display, landing in a crouch while wiping the blood from his lips. "Fate is peculiar. One second of bad luck appears to have cost you this fight..." Mayhaps wishing it had gone longer? The only alternative to that would be him being unconscious or worse on the ground, but it appears genuine. Swirling forward, again he flicks out his foot, but far quicker -- a simple jab for her solar plexus, trying to get some distance from his opponent and prevent her from finishing him off with anything /too/ mundane. He could unleash something more devastating, but there's no need for excessive force.

The quick kick to the solar plexus is simply absorbed. Makoto just stands there for it, turning the blow aside and turning herself aside at the same time in the opposite direction. She, too, wishes that this fight had gone longer - but it didn't, and there's not a lot she can do about that at this point. She knows she's almost out of it as she decides to deliver the secret technique of Rindoukan to Ryuujin - he seems like a good audience!

It starts with a strike low, toward the gut, which Makoto follows up with a flurry of very swift punches toward Ryuujin's torso. "Ha!" she says, winding up for the big one, the finale...

...right about the same time Fio's Webley shot strikes Makoto, causing her to stumble sideways and out of position. She swings upwards anyway, toward Ryuujin's chin, but the gunshot to the shoulder took the fight out of her; she slips afterwards, landing on her knees and breathing hard, and this time she doesn't get back up.

Fio, presently, is really dizzy from that bizarre aerial maneuver. She has no idea /what's/ going on, and needs at least another few seconds before she can focus on anything other than trying to keep her feet on the ground; it's all up to Ryuujin!

There's a sudden look of attentiveness as Makoto takes the blow, and he realizes what she's going to attempt. And his response is to meet it headlong; He rushes forward, attempting to impact her with his shoulder and drive her out of the onslaught. But he's caught perfectly in the gut, folding over it with a loud exhale. The rapid strikes further riddle his body, guard completely shattered, before even the clipping uppercut sends him into the ceiling. Quite literally; He takes out a large chunk of it, the collateral crashing amongst his own form as he thuds upon the matt. Blackness swirls around his vision for some time, before he begins to rise. Lethargic and unable to continue, but he managed to retain consciousness. ...The damage from her last assault was significant however. Blood is wiped from a split lip with one fist, as he forces himself to a stand. Literally; His entire body trembles under the effort, but again he manages a bow, despite blood rushing to his hazy mind. "...It was an honor to feel the full strength of your Rindoukan, Makoto-san." Once more disturbingly genuine. Fio is given a somewhat questioning look, but he would turn to begin the arduous process of limping out. Onryudo: Also good for holding your body together after a savage beating.

Once she gets her bearings, Fio gets a chance to see Ryuujin walk away; she doesn't know what /he's/ looking at, so he just gets a cheerful little wave with a, "Thank you for the help! I'll see you later!" That's all she can really say -- after all, she doesn't know much else about Ryuujin.

This brings her, of course, to having to deal with Makoto. She kneels down next to the fallen Rindoukan fighter, and looks her over. "Are you okay?" she asks, with little in her voice that indicates that a Buster Wolf will be coming any time soon -- indeed, it looks like she genuinely wants to help!

COMBATSYS: Fio has ended the fight here.

Makoto doesn't look like she's going to get up at all for a few moments, at least not further than her knees.

Eventually, though, she does. Makoto accepts Fio's help up, even though she isn't entirely sure she needs it, and offers a very slight but still honest smile despite the split lip. "It was a good fight," she has to admit, even though bad luck pretty much ended it so quickly for her. "That's all I'm here for!"

She raised her voice so Ryuujin could hear her too.

There is a response given to Fio, if not any further time spent lingering. "Your style is very unique." appears to be the extent of his commentary. Aiding a downed opponent when they do not desire it can be disrespectful, especially in a straightforward fight. He has learned a good deal from this, and would rather like to get somewhere private before potentially passing out. ...That data being that Makoto hits very hard.

Fio doesn't exactly know what to say to that comment, so she focuses on helping Makoto up. "That's good!" she declares, offering Makoto perhaps a little more help than she probably needs. "You did a really good job out there -- if everyone's as tough as you, I'm not sure I'll be able to keep up!" Only now does she start to back away from Makoto, slowly; she wants to make sure the other woman really is OK before she leaves the gym.
