Description: A battle in the freezing Russian winter between two very different wrestlers on one side, and Megumi and Talia on the other. Hinako is unable to go the distance, but Zangief proves just why the name of the Red Cyclone is known far and wide. (Winners: Zangief and Hinako)
Ah, Russia. Hinako has been to this country several times now for fights. She also has family here on her mother's side, although she hasn't been out to visit them very often. Anyone even moderately familiar with both Russia and the fighting world, though, is going to be familiar with the famous Zangief, the Red Cyclone. And while he's certainly no Edmond Honda, he's still a fighter worthy of respect. So Hinako is quite happy to have the chance to battle alongside him.
With the weather in mind, Hinako is dressed in a warm purple coat with white trim, a heavy knee-length skirt of matching color, and thick white leggings underneath that. It may be all well and good to dress up fancy, but she doesn't intend to freeze this evening. She does skip out on gloves, however, since she can't afford to compromise her grip. So the only thing on her hands is the tape wrapped around her palms and fingers. Crossing her arms to keep her hands warm and her fingers limber, Hinako waits for the fight to begin, quietly looking around as her breath puffs out in little white clouds.
Finally, the chance to debut in Saturday Night Fight. And where better than in Zangief's frozen homeland? The temple courtyard is already peppered with spectators, anxiously waiting for the event to begin. One side of the spectator fence begins to part and make way, revealing the looming shape of the Red Cyclone and Russian hero, Zangief. His muscular form is mostly obscured by a sweepingly long, gray furry coat and matching ushanka, but it does little to hide his sheer height and mass. He turns to face the civilian spectators briefly to give a loud cry - met with an enthused cheer from his fans.
From there, Zangief jumps back, spinning, over the taped perimeter to enter the ring. The moment he lands, the coat and ushanka are cast out to the audience, and he thrusts his fists into the air. After a couple seconds, he turns to the interior to spy... the fairly petite female meant to be his partner. The puzzled look that crosses his face briefly should really say it all. Nevertheless, he stalks to her and sets one hand to his hip, the other hand thrust out roughly towards her. Not to strike, but apparently in offering to shake.
Megumi has arrived at the Cathedral's exterior, pretty much on time. She arrived separate from her teammate, and has added a hastily purchased jacket to her attire. Something's bugging her, even as she gives a light wave to Hinako and Zangief. Could be the weather, but there's no shivering on her part...just an obvious air of being tense as she walks off to her team's side...where Talia either already is, or should be arriving at soon, by her guess. The jacket gets tossed aside once Megumi's there.
Not too long after Megumi, Talia steps through the crowd, ducking past the perimeter taping to enter the fight area. No fancy entrances here. She's wearing the same outfit she's been seen in during every televised fight she's had so far, no deviance here. Glancing over the opposing team for a moment, she shrugs slightly then moves to join Megumi. But Talia doesn't bother to even give Megumi a glance as she takes up her position next to her teammate. There's a short pause, and then Talia asks Megumi in her quiet monotone, "Are you ready?"

Hinako's hand is engulfed as she reaches out to shake Zangief's. "It's an honor to be able to fight alongside you, sir." She then turns to face her opponents, taking a moment to wave to Megumi. And Talia, though she doesn't really know the other woman. She then spreads both of her arms out before slamming her fists together and bowing to her opponents. Best to get this stuff out of the way before the fight is officially declared to begin.
Hinako settles into her fighting posture, slightly hunched over with her hands held out in front of her. And it isn't long before the fight announcer shouts out the call to begin. Now, how to begin? There isn't really much time to spend thinking about it. It's up to the first person Hinako happens to look at... Who in this case happens to be Talia. The blonde sumo rushes out toward Talia at high speed, reaching out with one hand in an attempt to snag the woman's shoulder. Should she connect, she'll use that grip to slam her forward and down into the mats. Better than a stone floor, at least.
Zangief gives the rather tiny hand a firm pump of a shake, accompanied now with a toothy grin. Girl's got manners. Nice change of pace. "Let's give it a good run for Mother Russia, huh?"
And then things begin. Hinako takes the lead by charging the other girl he's never met.. and Zangief spies Megumi. He's fairly curious to see how she fights anyway, after their chance encounter. Pleasant girl, but a fight's a fight. He dashes in towards her, boots thumping heavily along the mat as he closes the distance. Arms spread out, and he lunges himself towards the girl in a wide-spread tackle, aiming to catch her across the collar and shoulders with one arm to slam her down against the mats. Not terribly unlike his partner, but obviously with less finesse.

Megumi is pretty quiet too, just not in the same way Talia is; more reserved and doubting. "I think so. I've seen a little of what you can do, so let's just get this over with..." Not the friendliest of attitudes to take to a partner. But then the fight's begun, and Zangief and Hinako split off. Megumi holds still until Zangief's very close, then tries to catch his grabbing arm...and reconsiders. It's enough of a hesitation that Zangief manages to easily hoist her up and slam Megumi, but she rolls backward out of the impact...only slightly hurt.
And from there, she reaches out for the hand that held her. Megumi's trying to bend Zangief's hand in toward itself; fingers backward toward the back of his hand, then leap up and latch her legs around his neck in an odd chokehold attempt. The hand would be released at that point; switching one unusual 'submission hold' for another.

Talia seems to have similar degrees of indecision as Megumi. She starts to reach into her coat, but changes her mind, starting to step backwards out of range.. But she doesn't quite move quickly enough, and ends up getting an intimate meeting with the matting. Not wasting a moment once she gets her bearings, she rolls back to her feat, spinning around to lunge at Hinako with a knife hand thrust.
Of course, it isn't quite what it seems; there's a needle hidden between her fingers, aimed at a pressure point point on her chest.. Or alternately one on any limb, should Hinako block.

Blocking? No, Hinako has no intention of blocking. She's taken plenty of strikes to the chest before. Of course, she wasn't quite expecting the needle. It manages to pierce through her coat quite nicely, which is a bit of an annoyance; it's a fairly expensive coat. Still, there's no time to worry about such things, since this /is/ a fight.
And the reason that Hinako didn't block is because it leaves her free to reach out with both arms in an attempt to grab Talia by the shoulders. Hinako starts to spin her body around as she reaches out, intending to yank Talia off her feet and then continue on to slam the woman down into the mats with all her strength. Only when all that is done does she look to pulling out the needle that got lodged in her.

Zangief brings himself back up to his feet and smirks. Pretty good reflexes, the girl has. The assessment is only further enhanced when he's taken completely by surprise. His hand is twisted back with a confused growl, and he thus finds himself choked in that very peculiar fashion. In all his days of wrestling, you'd think he's seen everything. Despite this, he quickly attempts to turn things for his betterment. His now free hands lash up to grab ahold of her sides to ensure she remains in position, and he leaps up into the air. If successful, the hands shift to her stomach and he rolls over mid-air to fling her down hard towards the mats in a powerbomb.

Megumi knows she can't stay attached to Zangief for too long; he's big and strong. So when he starts to grab at her to prepare for a powerbomb, she lets go of his neck and springs off of him, cartwheeling away from his grasp....and still looking rather stressed out. But she doesn't linger on it, lunging back at Zangief and grabbing for an arm. If she gets it, she'll then spin and extend a knee, trying to toss Zangief past it. A very traditional 'Aiki throw' attempt.

This time Talia is a little more prepared for what Hinako has in mind. While she is grabbed, Talia twists loose mid-spin, landing roughly into a defensive roll. It's bruised her a bit, but the roll and the coat seem to diffuse most of the impact.
Once in a steady crouch, Talia shifts slightly to face Hinako. Reaching into her coat, she pulls out her now-trademark shotgun, levelling it at one of Hinako's knees. There's only a brief moment as Talia aims before a slug goes racing towards the side of the joint, aiming to impact mobility.

Whoa, whoa, whoa. Shotguns? Hinako doesn't remember signing up for this! Hinako starts to move to get out of the way, but it's quickly apparent that there's no time. She twists her body in an attempt to present fewer significant portions of her anatomy to the blast... Only to find out that it's a bit less traumatic than she was expecting. Still, it's a good thing she managed to turn; the slug hits her in the thigh rather than slamming directly into her knee.
It seems quite obvious that keeping this fight at /extremely/ close range would be in Hinako's favor, however. She lunges at Talia, apparently not even limping from the blow. The girl does have surprisingly strong limbs. She attempts to get as close to Talia as she possible can before lashing out with a palm strike aimed at the center of the other woman's chest.

Zangief lands in a crouch after his attempted and - much to his surprise - failed attempt at a powerbomb, eyeing Megumi. He raises back to his full height and finds himself suddenly grappled and spun. The girl is definitely more spry than he would have suspected. However, he's prepared to stop the attack short when suddenly-
BLAM!
-A gunshot? That moment of surprise equates to the throw landing, and Zangief tumbles with it. He winds up in a crouched position again, sending a glare back towards Megumi. Extremely short-lived though it is, as he gets up and charges in to assist his partner. Far more important than squaring off with someone, the well-mannered girl is being shot at! He attempts to skid in behind Talia while she's hopefully distracted with Hinako's strike, aiming to loop his arms around the shooter's midsection to hoist her up and slam her down behind his back in a suplex.
Megumi prepares to rush at Zangief, just as... ...gunshot. That gets her looking over to Talia, quick to see who's holding the 'smoking gun.' Sure, firearms aren't typically held to be as lethal as most techniques in organized fighting...but they have a certain 'edginess' to them. "Need to end this soon..." As Zangief goes after Talia, Megumi decides to divert attention. Hands cupped in front of herself, Megumi creates a roughly head-sized ball of sparkling red that hovers in place...and then flies at Hinako after a slight push sends it zooming along with disproportionate speed.

When Hinako manages to effectively shrug off the attack, Talia edges backwards, for a moment forgetting the other two combatants. As she's starting to move away to retain range, she only barely notices that Zangief is coming up on her. She quickly tries to jump out of his reach.. Unfortunately, he's moving entirely too fast and she wasn't at all prepared to handle it. Once again getting slammed down, she's only just standing up when Hinako comes charging in. Looking Hinako in the eyes with a cold expression, she makes no move to get out of the other girl's way. Shifting her grip on the shotgun, she waits until Hinako has commited to the palm strike to place both barrels on the girl's sternum.
Struck solidly, Talia uses the moment in air to fire both barrels in an attempt to damage Hinako's ribcage, and impair breathing. The kick from the blast helps her arc, and while she lands roughly, she does manage to recover her stance and gain distance from her assailants.

Zangief is pleased with the double-teamed attack against the gun-wielder, save for the additional popped shot. Nothing he could have done about that. The huge Russian shifts from his mat-prone position back to his feet smoothly enough only to find a ball of energy searing towards - and indeed, into - his partner. More projectiles! What is -with- people and using projectiles!? Nothing honorable about that! He growls under his breath and rushes in towards Megumi, one hand lifting to attempt signalling the sumo-girl. He attempts to quickly grab ahold of Megumi's shoulders to restrain her and, hopefully, hoist her slightly off her feet.

Ah, energy attacks. Hinako's bane. But first there's the matter of the shotgun blast to the chest. There's not really much Hinako can do about that, so she simply goes with the flow, as it were. She's blasted away, twisting herself as she flies. She hits the ground in an awkward run just in time for Megumi's attack to explode into her.
It doesn't slow her down for long, though. She continues stumbling right on through the blast and in Megumi's direction. And then Zangief comes up behind her target... Well, this attack is pretty powerful, but Zangief is probably tough enough to absorb the impact through Megumi. And it'll certainly give Megumi some trouble resisting any attacks of Zangief's if Hinako connects.
She bunches up the muscles in her arms, then thrusts out with a double palm strike aimed at Megumi's stomach. There's probably enough force behind this attack to lift both her /and/ Zangief off the ground, but hopefully the wrestler will be prepared...

Zangief grits his teeth with the strike, and, as predicted, he lifts into the air. And also as predicted, he works with the upwards momentum to chain together another attack. He aims to rotate Megumi upside-down mid-air and lock his arms around her midsection from behind. His legs then attempt to capture her head to keep her body angled downwards. Finally on the descent, he begins to spin, rapidly fast as he nears the mats. Such is the Screw Piledriver attempted, aiming to bear Megumi's head hard against the ground.

In a contest of pure strength, Megumi has no chance against Zangief. But she has some plan anyway as he rushes and lifts her...Megumi starts to thrust her hands at the underside of his wrists in an effort to break the hold. Almost. Might've worked on the second attempt, but Hinako cuts that off with a very forceful dual palm-thrust, drawing a "hURK!" as the breath is knocked out of Megumi. That's followed up by Zangief leaping and spinning with her in tow, but just before impact...she manages to wriggle her head free and pull it up a little, spreading the impact between the rear of her skull and her upper back. Painful, but not as bad as it could've been.
Dazed, Megumi rolls backward to get loose from Zangief...and even with temporarily blurred vision, she can see Hinako. A sideways lunge to get Zangief out of her way, then Megumi creates another energy ball and sends it flying at the dimunitive sumo...
Having been granted a reprieve of sorts, Talia takes several steps back to put herself out of the direct action. Crouching, she puts away her firearm back wherever it was before in her coat, and manages to pull out a steel staff. Closing her eyes, she begins a form of meditation, trying to recenter herself, and be better able to continue the fight.

Hinako generally isn't too agile, but having exploding energy balls hurled at you makes for a pretty good motivation to get out of the way. And this she does, leaping with all her might in Talia's direction. This both sends her sailing out of the way of Megumi's attack, and gets her that much closer to wrapping her arms around Talia's midsection.
There's a fair bit of force behind Hinako's charge, but she doesn't attempt to tackle Talia. She just wants to get that grip, then use it to lean back and lift Talia's feet off the ground. A quick twist of Hinako's arms and an upward thrust and Talia will then be sailing up into the air. Good thing there's all these mats around.
Zangief shifts back up to his feet, but not before Megumi has already launched her attack. Bah! More projectiles! He glances towards the other female and decidedly lets his partner take care of that end, while he tries to stop the blasting from the other half of his opposing team. He shifts a boot back, then rushes towards her to cut the relatively small distance. Though with that amount of momentum behind him, he lunges into the air and turns his body perpendicular to the ground. Arms pull back and his boots thrust out towards the girl's torso in a dropkick.

Incoming massive feet with massive muscle behind them. Megumi...moves. Not away from Zangief, but leaping toward him headfirst, spinning. She goes just above his feet, arms latching onto his legs as she continues spinning...and taking him along for the ride for several seconds, finally ending by swinging him to the ground near the edge of the mats. Megumi lands right after that and backflips a few feet away from him, breathing heavily. Quite the showy reversal, but it took a lot of effort from her to do it...

Opening her eyes, Talia looks up as she hears Hinako's approach. Standing quickly, she moves into a position to brace herself with the staff in one hand, but she finds that she gets grabbed anyway. Keeping her grip on the staff, Talia goes sailing away, landing with another rough 'thump'. There's a sigh of pain, then Talia scrambles quickly to her feet, running towards Hinako. But just as with Hinako's own charge, Talia isn't aiming for the other girl directly.. At the last moment, Talia flings the staff past Hinako, then dives past the girl into a roll on the other side. There's a short moment where Hinako may be able to see the very thing wire before Talia recovers the staff behind her and pulls hard on the wire.

[OOC] Talia says, "Well, it isn't quite that sharp, it has more to do with the abrupt and unnatural angle in which you're twisted from the entanglement."
Hinako can barely see the wire that gets wrapped around her, so there isn't much she can do to avoid it. Her left arm gets badly tangled up in the wire and twisted to a position that leaves it largely useless to her. And it's so tightly wound that she can't break out; it doesn't matter /how/ strong she is, she'll only end up severely injuring herself if she tries to force her way out of it.
Her right arm is still free, however. And it allows her to use one of the advantages of having her hounds bound up in tape. Gripping a wire with your bare hand is ill advised, but with the protection she has, Hinako sees little problem in looping the wire quickly around her hand and tugging hard. She imagines Talia will probably let go of the staff, but not before stumbling forward at least a bit. And Hinako intends to take advantage of that moment... She awkwardly stumbles forward, reaching up to grab the top of Talia's head with her one free hand. If she can do that, she intends to drive Talia's face into the mats with all the force she can muster. After that, though, she doesn't rise. She can't really move too freely without causing herself some serious injury; the wire has already cut through her coat from the strain she's put on it, and it's digging into her skin.

Zangief lunges through the air... and gets caught? His braing doesn't even register this. It's baffling. He's thrown down with nary a problem, bouncing once off the mat. When he sits up, he shakes his head quickly. What in the world is going -on-? He shifts over and raises to his feet. Someone outgrappling -him-? Absurd. For pride's sake, he presses his attack on Megumi, closing the distance. His hands lash out to attempt grabbing the girl by the throat and hoisting her up high off her feet. Immediately following this if successful, he leaps up and turns over to drive the female down into the mat hard headfirst.

Megumi once again finds herself up against someone several times her size, but this time she stands and lets Zangief come to her. When he grabs for her neck, one of Megumi's hands shoots up to catch it at the under-side of his wrist...using superior leverage to beat muscle power. Her other hand raises the grasping arm's elbow, as she spins and uses that arm to sling Zangief back to the mat in a very clean reversal.

Contrary to Hinako's hopes, Talia expected the tug, and had already loosened her grip on the weapon. Taking a quick hop backwards, Talia shrugs at Hinako's efforts. Turning towards the remaining combatants, Talia quickly draws a pistol from within her coat, and quickly runs around behind Zangief. She pauses on the other side of him from Megumi, moving into a crouch to aim carefully. The following shot is aimed for a nerve cluster in his back, hopefully throwing him off balance and inducing a fair amount of lasting pain.

And Zangief's troubles are met with a resounding denial. He's flipped over, and he's dazed. Absurd! Completely absurd! But even in the midst of it, he's shot.in the back.
An OUTRAGE! Shooting Zangief!
When he lands, he growls. Very.. very.. irritated. He pulls himself up to his feet and spots his downed ally. The next person he spies is the one who had to've taken her down - not to mention the one who just blasted him in the back. He reaches around to his back and grits his teeth. When his hand comes back around, he finds blood. Eyes snap back in Talia's direction, and he lets out an enraged roar. In her direction he runs, arms spreading outwards and hands splayed. He attempts to grab ahold of her and fling her high into the air, only to leap after her. Once met in the air, he aims to grab ahold of her again, perform a quick spin, and fling her as hard as he can muster against the mats.
Megumi winces as Zangief is shot, sympathizing....audiably doing so, in fact. "I'm sorry about this. I didn't think they'd team me up with someone like that, but...I'll make this up to you later." But for now, she's...trying to send something to Talia. Megumi's arms spread out high and low, then wide apart horizontally, to create a thin energy 'wall.' It flies away from her, speeding toward Talia...hopefully getting there before Zangief does.

Talia has really grown tired of all the flinging and spinning and whatnot. As before, she doesn't manage to get out of the way in time, and finds herself in a weird circus maneuver. Lacking options, she simply drops her pistol, pulling the shotgun out mid-air. When Zangief grabs her again, she murmurs, "surprise", then places the barrels against a chakra point below his ribcage. The following blast at point-blank should be enough to disrupt even Zangief's biorhythm, possibly even impact his heartbeat for a moment.
As for poor Talia? She slams against the ground at full force, somehow managing to roll away afterwards. She's clearly in pain, and only barely able to pull herself back into a defensive crouch.

The shotgun gets an enraged look from the wrestler. By this point, she's all but driven him savage. And when one is driven to such points, they're prone to crazy things.. and sometimes doing things they otherwise wouldn't even consider attempting. As such, his massive body performs a spin - managing to weave in a deceptively graceful manner completely out of the way of the blast. When he lands, he continues to attack the girl he's decided is a gun-toting maniac. His hands reach out suddenly to attempt grabbing her by the biceps, yanking her in.. and unceremoniously biting her shoulder ferociously, growling all the while.
Megumi stares in amazement as Zangief evades the shot...and moreso as he goes berserk. And Megumi isn't even sure she wants to intervene. It's pretty callous toward her teammate, but for the moment Megumi just stares in shock, amazed at how Zangief is reacting even as she sympathizes with it...trying to gather her thoughts, only slowly approaching the pair.

In the condition she's in, Talia is no longer able to effectively escape Zangief's grip, and she's left somewhat stunned as he BITES her. This isn't in the playbook as she knows it. With only a brief moment of consciousness left, she makes one last attempt to make good on an offense, lashing out with another one of her needles with one hand, trying to hit a point in Zangief's neck. After that, she's pretty much dead weight, for whatever Zangief does with her.

Zangief bites, chomps, gnaws, then snarls furiously at the girl in his grip afterwards. He spies her hand shooting towards his body, and he displays surprising coordination in the midst of his rage by grabbing ahold of it at the wrist. Then when the girl turns to dead weight, he simply shoves her down, then thrusts his fists into the air with a mighty roar to the crowds.
But wait. One more opponent left.
Zangief's head turns to peer over his shoulder at the girl approaching him, and he crouches low. "Let's finish this!," he yells to her. And once she gets close enough, he raises to his full height with a push. This motion brings him into a swift spin, fists thrusting out to the sides. Chi is concentrated on the fists in the form of blue fire to add more punishment to the hurricane attack.

Megumi is actually silenced by Zangief's yell, responding only with a simple nod. But her lack of enthusiasm after these gunshots doesn't slow her down much, as she rolls beneath Zangief's fist and gets beside him...just a tad behind, as well. She then jumps up high, arm aiming to wrap around the back of his neck and use the momentum to pull him to the ground, hopefully planting his face onto one of the mats.

Zangief spins to a halt and glares forward at... nothing? That doesn't seem right. Suddenly, he feels weight of a female latched onto him, and his first impulse is to give the girl a hard stunner. This is attempted, arms reaching back to grab for her head.. but he just can't grab it in time, and he's driven against the mat face-first.
Megumi takes Zangief down, and continues to press the advantage from there by scrambling toward his legs. Can't work both at once...but she can try to weigh one down with both her knees, and reaching out to raise the other leg by its ankle. Then...twisting, trying to damage it and make Zangief give in to the hold. Simple, but potentially effective.

Zangief growls at the mat and starts to turn when he feels Megumi grabbing for his legs. His feet scissor outwards to escape her grasp, then he tumbles back to his feet. The mighty Russian wrestler is now panting heavily, having exerted himself quite a bit in this match-up... but the steely look he gives Megumi is one telltale of pure cussedness. Refusing to stay down or take defeat while he can still stand. He moves in towards the girl and attempts to grab her head under his arm in a forward headlock with the other hand grabbing ahold of the waist of her shorts. His knee thrusts up to strike her stomach, and he uses the momentum to sling her up and over, ideally to suplex her squarely onto the mat.

Megumi is driven back by Zangief's escape, and stares up at him. When she tries to catch his hand this time...she slips, and it's not long before her head is held, along with her shorts, and...she cries out with each knee to the gut, stopping only when finally slammed down...that hurt. Quite a lot, and she's slow to get up...
Zangief doesn't pursue this one, though. At least not instantly. His hands set to his knees as he pants, eyeing her. "Huh. You ain't bad," he compliments. He waits for her to nearly get back to her feet completely before moving in towards her again. He ducks low - quite low, to make up for height differences - and links his hands together before swinging the massive club-like balled fists in an upwards motion towards her chin as he hops up.

Megumi returns to her feet just in time to find Zangief already upon her....and making a double-fisted strike right to her head. She comes just short of catching it, and is instead knocked several feet into the air.
Megumi lands in a barely conscious heap...out of the fight? Almost. She's twitching, barely pushing herself up to her feet...
Zangief frowns a little at her evident tenacity. "C'mon! Don't make me beat you up harder! You proved your point - you're good!" The Russian actually heaves a sigh and moves in towards her again, this time hopping into the air and turning aside in hops of outright bodyslamming his weight overtop her much smaller frame.

Megumi gets up one last time, and...catches Zangief. More to the point, she /catches Zangief./ While exhausted and barely even conscious. That's a 100-ish pound girl catching a massive muscled man.
And then failing to have the momentum (forget 'strength', that's not there) to do anything with it. What ends up happening is pretty close to a pro wrestling pin, as Megumi topples with Zangief on top of her, and...stops moving, eyes closed. Breathing, however; she's just unconscious.
Zangief stays over her for a second, blinking his eyes at the smaller girl's face. No - not dead. She's still breathing.
The announcer calls the match a finish loudly over the arranged sound equipment. The victors tonight? Zangief and Hinako!
Satisfied with Megumi's health condition and the announcement, he shifts forward into a roll and raises to his feet. Fists thrust into the air, index fingers pointed skywards. His head tilts back, and he issues forth a triumphant, "YEEEAAH!" The audience eats it up, greeting the Red Cyclone with cheers. As his fists lower, he turns around to look for his partner who.. well.. it's frankly a shame she went down. He heaves a quiet sigh with a frown, then resumes fist-pumping for the audience.
