SNF 2006.09 - Trash? Haggar vs Daigo

Description: Having only seen Gedo High in the few SNF matches wherein sections of the dilapidated-looking school are being trashed, American fans of SNF are finding new respect for the hitherto little-known school. After all, if a schoolboy can match the strength of their famous wrasslin' mayor, what can the /teachers/ do? (Draw Match)

Oh man, it's Metro City. Even late at night like it is now, even with the overcast sky threatening to go 'LOL LOL LOL' and dump rain, Metro City is outrageously busy. Of course, not as much is getting done as it usually is, as a crowd has gathered around the cleared square where fights are traditionally held. The floor is swept, most debris is kept clear - in general, it doesn't look on the surface to be nearly as fun a place to fight as Gedo High's backyard.

The pulse of the crowd quickens as Mayor Mike Haggar ends his pre-fight stretching and starts working the crowd. He strides down his side of the square, slapping high fives, playfully turning hats forward, signing a thing or two.

And then there's the 'Bad Guy' of this fight. The foreigner. The visitor. The OUTSIDER.

Daigo Kazama of Gedo High, who's very school has been 'victimized' by recent fighting and other such things, lurks on the other end of the fighting square. This is Haggar's back yard, so the elder Kazama expects very little crowd favor, aside from a few choice Gedo kids that kind of make up the corner for their Boss. Daigo hasn't really moved much since he got there. He was sitting while things were set up. Now he's standing, and with his arms crossed lightly over his chest, waiting for Mr. Mayor to finish his rabblerousing.

When he feels he's let Haggar do the wrestler thing, Daigo turns his head to his boys, nods once, and then casts his good eye's gaze over the crowd. Surveying those who've come to watch the fight. He gives little more than a smirk, attempting to, in his own way, play up to the 'PO'd role he was given, and turns to face Mayor Mike Haggar, stepping his way to the middle of the fighting square to wait for the start of the match.

"Are you ready to do this, Mister Mayor?"

The Mayor turns when Daigo steps forward, as though he sensed the other fighter's desire to start. He runs a thumb along the underside of his lone suspender to check its fit, stretches his neck noisily, and pumps his arms over his chest once as he makes his own way to the center.

Haggar drops into his low stance, feet spread and steady, arms ready to punch or grab at a moment's notice, crouched a little bit like a wall of muscle. "Son, I was ready for whatever you had to throw while you were learning math." He makes a 'come on' gesture, much to the appreciation of the crowd.

Most of the crowd, anyway. The Gedo boys are trying their best to look unimpressed. Two of them do it better than the third, which looks more like he's grimacing than anything.

Daigo grunts in response to Haggar's quip, shaking his head whilst he falls into his own stance, body turned a little to one side, feet spread, and both arms lifted protectively. Almost like a boxer, though more like a brawler. "Son, huh? Alright, old man, lemme brush up on this math thing, okay? How many punches is this?" And the Gedo man steps forward, deciding to forego his typical jab greeting in favor of something just a bit more direct. The ol' one-two combo. A light left tap followed up with a right hook that has a bit more effort thrown into it.

COMBATSYS: Daigo successfully hits Haggar with 1-2 Smash.

Haggar doesn't even more to avoid the punches. The first punch might as well have been hitting steel, but the second drives Haggar aside a step, ruining the careful placement of feet he was going for. A bruise quickly grows on his jaw. He snorts, probably amused, and tries to get ahold of Daigo's left arm to pull him off balance, and get himself behind the much younger fighter.

If successful, Haggar will jump forward immediately after, seeking to grab hold of the back of the Gedo leader's head and unceremoniously bulldog him face-first to the ground.

COMBATSYS: Daigo blocks Haggar's Quick Throw.

The three punks cheer, and are most likely in the minority in doing so, when Daigo lands the First Strike. Daigo himself hadn't quite expected the blows to land like that, let alone the Mayor to be forced to take a little step back. The Gedo youth, in this surprise, also didn't expect Haggar to slip around behind him to slam his face into the Square floor, though he's very quick to bring his arms up to keep from kissing pavement. Despite the cushion his arms provide, it stings to strike hard, unforgiving ground, and the crowd applauds their mayor on what they probably saw as a great counter.

Daigo isn't so quick to get up and go for a counter move. The first hit was just for the show. Now it's fight-time. He takes a slightly more defensive stance when he gets back to his feet, keeping something of a smirk on his face, and this time he's the one to give the 'bring it' signal to the Crowd Favorite.

COMBATSYS: Daigo focuses on his next action.

Oh, it's going to be brought. Mike Haggar was quick to pop up and back from Daigo after the grapple to keep from getting wrapped up in some kind of counter. He's never fought this kid - hell, hardly even heard of him - and as such has no idea of what he's going to do. Haggar drops into a crouch, thumbing his moustache speculatively. Looks like he's also going to take a quick moment to survey his opponent...

It was a trick! Showing agility that a man his size really just shouldn't be able to, Haggar suddenly leaps forward from his crouch, both feet locking together and swinging forward toward the student's face. "Yeah!"

COMBATSYS: Daigo Toughs Out Haggar's Drop Kick!

Daigo            0/-------/----===|===----\-------\0           Haggar

Surely it would have been a great way to knock Daigo down again, having two boots planted on his face, but the Gedo man has other plans. The dropkick lands, and as hard as Haggar had intended, but at the last second the Gedo Boss took a half-step back and braced himself, allowing the Mayor to full-body kick him square in the chest.

There's another grunt from the Gedo man, and his shoes skidded all of an inch back, but he's still standing...and in that split-second of time Haggar's still in the air, the elder Kazama tries to make his counter-attack. A single punch, aimed to knock Mr. Mayor back into the ground, brought like a downwards overhand slam, the fist alight with a bright fiery-flavored energy.

COMBATSYS: Haggar blocks Daigo's Phoenix Fist.

If there's one thing Haggar isn't at all used to, good at, or even has any desire to practice, it's aerial combat. He may only be a few feet in the air, but he's still in the air. As Daigo comes at him, the wrestler balls up completely, pulling his legs in and crossing his arms in front of his chest, just barely in time to catch the fist somewhere with no vitals. He's still thrown downward, hard, the ground beneath him cracking. He bounces back up out of it, though, posting to his feet like a gymnast, already moving into his next attack.

The Mayor brings both of his arms together, clenching his fists, and steps toward Daigo. Both forearms come with punishing force toward his shoulder, Haggar being one of the few men able to strike downward at a man of the student's stature. "They all fight like you in that school? You're wide open!" Ah, vigorous bluster.

COMBATSYS: Daigo blocks Haggar's Double Lariat.

Daigo            0/-------/--=====|====---\-------\0           Haggar

That was...unexpected. Daigo can tell more by the crowd's reaction than anything that Haggar appears completely unfazed by what he had hoped would be a viscious attack. The Gedo mans eyes widening, and then narrowing again to get back into focus. Wide open? Daigo? Hardly... Eyeing the up-and-about wrestler warily, the Gedo Boss' arms are up and at the ready to absorb the evil double-assault, knocking powerful attacks from striking more important places on his body.

"You're the one getting careless, old man..." Daigo notes, seeing if he can't use the opportunity of having Haggar next to him to grab the other man by the suspenders, turn, and chuck to another open section of hard Metro Square ground. Simple, but usually effective.

COMBATSYS: Haggar interrupts Quick Throw from Daigo with Screw Piledriver.
- Power hit! -

Daigo            1/------=/=======|=======\-------\1           Haggar

Suspender! Singular! Still works, as it's a very sturdy suspender. Haggar is hoisted forward, but while Daigo's turning, he manages to whip his arm out, catching his opponent at the last second. He gets a hard wrench, but he clenches his teeth right through the pain and pulls Daigo into his horrible clutches.

The hold set, the Mayor wastes no time getting a better hold, and then leaping up into the air. He spins Daigo around in his grasp, pulling his feet up, and shoving him down somewhere where he'll absorb a good amount of landing shock - Haggar is spinning all the while.

And thus, the second time that Haggar has dumped Daigo on his head, as prophesized.

Who's getting careless, now? That'd be Daigo. Oh sure, Big D, grab the PRO-WRESTLER and throw him. Brilliant. That's like trying to out-box M. Bison, and you know how that went, don't you?

That's the voice ringing obscenities into Daigo's ear the entire time he's spinning and trounced into the very cracked ground he had been trying to slam the Mayor into. Followed by a very much louder ringing upon cranial impact with the tough ground. Right on a crack, too, just to add a little pain to the already punishing moment.

Naturally the crowd goes nuts at this. A power-move? Already? It couldn't be over so quick, could it? The match just got started! Yet there are likely those in the crowd nodding their heads, as though expecting no less out of their city's Mayor. One who has done so much for their fair city. The Gedo punks all winced in unison upon seeing their Boss get driven on the ground-ward crash course...

The impact leaves Daigo stunned, surely, but the Gedo kid is far from completely out of the game. A sudden jerk wrests him from Haggar's cruel grip, the toughest guy in Gedo rolling back to his feet, albeit just a little on the shaken side, and with a nasty gash on the side of his head from where it impacted the cracked crater.

"Not bad..Mister Mayor.." Daigo grumbles, all the awe he's going to show for being out-grappled, taking a moment to get his bearings. The three Gedo punks cheer, though the rest of the crowd goes back to a dull roar. The fight's still on! But how much more can the foreigner take?

COMBATSYS: Daigo focuses on his next action.

Daigo            1/------=/=======|=======\-------\1           Haggar

Haggar rolls back from the mighty slam when Daigo breaks the grip, popping back up to his feet, shiny with exertion. Seeing Daigo not immediately coming for him, he spares a moment to face the crowd and thrust one hand up, a single finger pointing upward. "YEAH!" The crowd pops as expected, and (lame) ponytail whipping, he spins and drops to a knee near where he cracked the ground the first time.

The crowd's excitement can be felt as Haggar tugs at the ground and gives a stubborn chunk of rock a punch. He stands once again, this time sporting a sizeable chunk of concrete! "Son, this ain't happy hour! You can sit around at home!" Grinning fiercely, the wrestler easily hocks what was just earlier floor at the Gedo boss.

COMBATSYS: Daigo interrupts Large Thrown Object from Haggar with Phoenix Fury.

Daigo            0/-------/---====|=======\=====--\1           Haggar

Aw hell... Daigo wasn't THAT attached to the Metro Square floor! He don't want no souvinears! But something like thrown concrete isn't the sort of thing easy to just hug, nor is Daigo in a position to get out of the way. Cornered. Trapped. What could he do?

Punch through it, of course! A split-second's charge to light his fist up, and the Gedo Boss swings a punch right into the chunk of flooring aimed at him, shattering it upon impact, and bloodying his fist up a good amount. But the Gedo punk isn't content with this, oh no. Not after being so warmly welcomed by Mr. Mayor! Daigo uses the momentium to charge at the ex-pro, a frown etched on his face from the pain his new head-wound is giving him. Cracking the knuckles of his unharmed hand, not a word is uttered by the Gedo man, letting his fists do the talking for him. A ten-hit combo, full of punches, uppercuts, and a triple kick to thank Mr. Haggar for taking him out for a spin, the last of which is a straight-armed punch bursting with his good ol' Phoenix chi, to try and sent Haggar sprawling back into the crowd that loves him so.

Well, nobody's done /that/ to him before. Usually people have the decency to get hit or just get out of the way. Daigo is now the first person to just punch through something to get to him. And... well... then he continues to punch, Haggar completely caught off-guard. The crowd behind the Mayor is already reflexively moving out of the way, knowing from years of spectating that fighters love to throw each other in all kinds of directions. Wounds get punched in all over the wrestler, and also kicked in because I guess there's some kicks in there I don't know I didn't play Rival Schools. The end result is Haggar being hurled backward, just as everyone guessed.

With a grunt, Haggar turns a somersault in the air and drives his feet downward, turning his flight into a tumble, and eventually a ground-shredding halt just before he falls out of the "boundary." But no matter how much this has taken out of him, Haggar is famous for being able to fight at 100% until he falls over. He rises back to his feet, rubbing blood off his chin and spitting some more to his side. "Not bad, son," he intones, gathering himself up like a jungle cat. "How well can you handle... this?!"

Haggar explodes into motion, streaking forward at Daigo, red afterimages in his wake. His hand stabs out toward the student's forehead, the wrestler trying to shove him to the ground where he can get his arms around his legs. Daigo probably doesn't want that to happen.

COMBATSYS: Haggar successfully hits Daigo with Giant Swing.

Contact!

Haggar wastes no time after shoving Daigo down, crouching and gathering up his legs. The crowd does two things: First, they take a few steps back, because they know Haggar would like a lot of room for this. Secondly, they begin to chant his name. Haggar turns, pulling hard.

Face locked in a grimace of exertion, Mike Haggar begins to spin in a circle, lifting Daigo right up off the ground. His feet pump despite the pain from stopping his earlier flight. The spin likely seems, from Daigo's point of view, to have no upper limit. "And... HOOYEAH!" Can't just let go like he usually does - someone'll probably get hurt when Daigo sails into them. So, the Mayor hops, leans back hard, and releases Daigo straight into the air with incredible force.

Already feeling the effects of the fight on his head, if not elsewhere, Daigo stumbles a moment after delivering that final punch on Haggar's person, thinking himself safe for a moment. He couldn't be any more wrong than that. Like some damned force of nature, the ex-wrestler explodes back out of the crowd to tackle Dai, and hoist him up by his legs, using considerable force to get the Gedo man not only airborne, but at an angle that is soooo going to hurt when he lands. Hell, Daigo's head probably struck the ground a couple times mid-swing. It'd be like a blood sprinkler, or something.
Up, up goes the Daigo, having little time to correct or come back from such a brutal attack, so he does what any self-respecting Gedo-ite would do given the situation. He concentrates, with what's left of his consciousness, and instead of being just a plain falling Daigo, he catches his body on chi-fire. A chi explosion, to be exact, erupting from the core of Daigo's being, to turn him into something akin to a comet, trying to land atop the very man who threw him up there. If he's going out, it might as well be in a blaze of glory!

COMBATSYS: Daigo has reached second wind!

Why they always gotta be coming back down all... on fire? Haggar sees Daigo's powering up, and takes the time before impact to dig in, as it were, and set himself against the attack. It still sucks. Unable to manifest chi himself at all, he also can't do much to prepare himself for getting hit by it. There's probably an explosion, and either way Haggar is thrown back a good amount.

He doesn't stay down long, though. He waits just long enough to catch a few hard breaths, then jumps back in where Daigo should be, one heavy hand coming in a backhanded chop. Haggar's gotta hand it to the kid - he gives as good as he takes.

Like some kind of crazy New Years thing, the three Gedo punks in the one corner each count down to impact. "Three! Two! One! YAAAA!" Though all the crash-landing does is bruise the Mayor a bit, surrounding himself in such wild energy seems to have done something for Daigo Kazama. The Gedo Boss didn't quite land so brokenly after all, but on his knees, rising up from the wake of his fiery explosion to stand tall again. Phoenix power? Indeed.

But Haggar isn't beaten. Daigo almost was. Within a hair's bredth, even. And the Gedo man knows it, too. He may feel a bit refreshed, but that could fade with one solid hit from Mr. Mayor. He can see Haggar coming, quick as it is, and instead of standing there like a rock to take it this time, the Gedo man simply steps to a side, spins about, and aims to give Mike a good unhealthy crack on the back of the noggin', with a big glowing fist.

Was the punch a feint, or is Haggar just a master of improvisation? That's the question you have to ask. Once Daigo sidesteps his big uppercut, the wrestler immediately brings his other hand up, forming an axehandle. Haggar steps hard inside Daigo's incoming punch, shouldering his momentum off and breaking the entire attack up, and then slamming his balled hands hard across his chest. "You've gotta be faster than that, son! No excuses!"

Experience has to play a part in here somewhere. Daigo thought he had the move telegraphed, and he /still/ got punched! He staggers back, weak from previous hard slams from Mr. Mayor, but keeps his footing this time. And...well...he tries to pull something he'd seen once from a wrestling show when the 'bad guy' was all down and battered. Though it usually works better when the opponent is rushing at him.

"Shut it!" Daigo says, up and throwing a foot out, trying to catch Mayor Loudmouth just under his chin, adding as an afterthought out of sheer respect for the great fight: "...sir!" Let it never be said Daigo didn't respect his elders.

Haggar springs back from his attack, leaning to the side so that he catches the kick on his shoulder. There's no way he can keep this up for much longer, but he's not going to let up while he can still fight? "Is that the way... huff... they teach you to talk in that school of yours?"

Haggar shoves forward a bit to put some amount of distance between him and Daigo, and responds with a traditional wrestling move - more a taunt than anything else. Hand open, fingers pressed together, the mayor makes a backhanded swat towards Daigo's chest. If it weren't for all that uniform, this would probably make a satisfying sound.

Thump.

Daigo just...stops. For some reason. With a hand raised, that had an aura on it. That aura flickers out, and the Gedo man stumbles back again, clearly exhausted. Yet Gedo pride keeps him from giving up, or giving in, until his arms just won't lift anymore. They almost don't, in fact, but Daigo manages to put up a weak defensive posture.

"...Hmph. Bring it, Grandpa... One more time." Daigo grunts, in what is bound to be his defiant last stand.

Haggar only wonders briefly what that flash was on his hand, and just decides to consider himself lucky he didn't manage to find out. Breathing heavy, still bleeding from that earlier attack, the Metro mayor presses his advantage, quickly snapping both forearms out at Daigo's torso region. "C'mon now, I'm only 48! ...could be your dad, at least..."

Defense, succeeded. Only by now, with as battered and bruised as Daigo's arms, not to mention body, brain, etc, it really doesn't matter. Someone could've thrown a feather at him, and might've knocked him over. He just wanted to take it like a man, and attempt to leave Haggar with a parting gift. Having blocked, Daigo's arms are all but useless, yet he attempts to reach up and get a hold on the ex-pro's neck anyway. A tough feat, to be sure! Yet if he succeeds, he'll subsequently try to lift, and neck-drop Haggar onto the ground, where Daigo's going to go anyway, with or without Mr. Mayor.

Haggar sees Daigo's last grasp coming for him, and he attempts to backpedal, but he simply doesn't have enough energy for his proper reaction time. Daigo manages that last hit on the Mayor, and he goes down as well. Big hands push at the concrete vainly, Haggar picking himself up an inch - and then he's down, for the count.

Regardless, the crowd cheers, both for Haggar and Daigo. When two big guys throw themselves at each other until they both fall over, everyone wins.

Everyone, but the ground, at least.

Oh, the ground /never/ wins.
