SNF 2006.08 - Rooftops! Kensou vs Duo Lon

Description: A throwdown in Chinatown! Psycho Power vs. Creepy Ghost Chi, plus a meatbun or two. (Winner: Duo Lon)

This week's design, rather than being world-wide, was made to be more simple, kept local in the city of Southtown, but showing the more interesting sides of the city. For instance, this fight in particular was being hosted on the roofs of several gracious businesses and homes that had dollar signs in their eyes, rather than worrying about the 'what ifs'. Like what if their roofs got totally blown to pieces, for instance? All they knew was that two top-level fighters were going to be duking it out on their shingled roofs, and the very fact of that alone was enough to bring tourists and fight fans alike, which meant money. Who cares if a hole or two appeared in the roof? The setup of the match 'area' was done yellow 'DO NOT CROSS' tape strung across several telephone poles, marking a square area off for fighting purposes. The layout was simple: several businesses shared a common area, a square of sorts, that they all faced. It was in this area that the spectators were crowded, and the rooftops on which the two fighters would engage in battle ringed them. The action would be caught on the cameras operated on lifts like they used for aerial shots on movie sets, and several 'still frame' cameras here and there.

As for the fighters themselves, at least one had shown up a little earlier than expected - the 'enigmatic, dangerous' fighter Duolon, to be precise. Emerging from a side alley with hands tucked into his sleeves, the young man looked either lost in his own thoughts or merely bored as he stepped into the staff area, listening to various members of the crew chatter about how excited they were, and giving him pre-fight exclaimations of luck. Nodding his head amicably enough, Duo merely waited for his signal that the crew was all ready, and then moved to the 'main' building, a two-story, flat topped stone structure that would give both fighters equal footing. Looking up at it, the Hizoku seemed once again lost in his own thoughts, before surprising most by crouching, then jumping. Feet touching the wall of the building once, he then 'jumped' again, pushing off the wall to climb up the side of the building, landing soundly on the roof itself, earning a few cheers from the crowd. Turning, Duo makes a bow to the crowd, and then heads to his appropriate starting position.

Pssh, as if Kensou would ever be involved in unnecessary property damage in a fight! It's just not his style. Uh... Usually, anyhow. Sure, there's been a time or two, and... Well, okay, yeah, it's a definite possiblity, depending on how the match goes.

Anyway, the Psycho Soldier - who has basically no idea who this 'Duo Lon' guy is - makes the scene not long after the Hizoku assassin, and thusly manages to not actually be /late/, a common concern with the rather lazy martial artist. He isn't even showing up at a dead run, either, because this time he was smart: THIS time, he brought food /with/ him on the way to the fight, so he could eat and travel, rather than eating and then running to catch up after. Hahaha, a stroke of pure brilliance!

Making his way past the spectators with one last, still piping-hot meatbun in hand, the Psycho Soldier grins and waves with his free hand to the crowd, and once he gets to the building where they're supposed to be starting, well... He climbs the way somebody with only one hand to use would, of course - if they had some superhuman powers anyway - vaulting his way up from outcropping to outcropping, like Spider-Man crossed with Jackie Chan. It's probably not as spectacular as Duo's climb, though

At the top, the younger Chinese fighter points right at his opponent, who's all enigmatic and stuff. "All right, buddy! Prepare to face the great Sie Kensou, and the ultimate power of kung fu!!" Yeah, that's some trash talk right there. Then, he pops the meatbun into his mouth, whole. And forgets to chew enough. This sort of ruins his dramatic moment, as he turns a bit blue, choking and coughing and finally forcing the bun down; left standing with his hands on his knees, gasping for breath, Kensou's more than a little embarassed. "I... I thought I was gonna die..."

And upon that rooftop, a most interesting dynamic takes hold, as the second fighter arrives. Both fighters there, of course, raises quite the cheer from the crowd, because no doubt minutes from now there would be many punches, kicks, and techniques never before seen being thrown out, all in an effort to defeat the other, to the delight of the crowds. But the dynamic is not the crowd's reaction, for the reaction is something to be expected. No, instead it's the vast differences of appearance between Kensou and Duolon. Duo, the tall, rail-thin chinaman in robes and makeup, quiet as can be, and Kensou. ...Who is Kensou. Enough said about -that-. And it's this particular difference that the announcer, a man in a purple suit, with a funny handlebar mustache and... a brown afro...? decides to play up, the man standing on a platform that has been slowly raising to roof-level so that he can stand in 'front' of the fighters, from the view of the main camera. Duo only manages to look a little surprised at Kensou's choking, getting in only this edgewise before the announcer begins to speak: "You shouldn't be in such a rush." A sound protip if ever one were heard. But then all that can be heard is the announcer's voice as he begins to speak, loudly, into his microphone.

"Well well well!! Ladies and gentlemen, today we have a spectacular fight lined up for you! It may not be Paris, it may not be Milan, but Southtown has its own charms, its own jeh-neh-say-pahs, am I right?! From its own sights, to its people! And today we have two of her very own, fighting on the rooftops of luxurious, chaotic - and not a little dangerous - Chinatown! Our fighters will thrill you, chill you, and maybe even spill a little on you as well, so watch out for any property damage, folks!! First up, a long standing veteran of the Saturday Night Fight - you know him, you love him, you feel bad for him when his luck is down, as it often is - Sie KEEEEENNN-SSSOOOOOOHHH!" The announcer pauses here to wave his arms energetically, the crowd -roaring- up at him from below as they cheer the young fighter. When the noise has gone back down, the announcer picks up again: "Facing off against him is a newcomer to the matches! A mysterious man from the west continent of China. His skills are unique, and just as creepy as they are deadly! Give it up for the man only known as 'Duo Lon'!" Again, the crowd cheers, loud and energetic. The announcer's platform begins to descend, but that can't stop him from talking loudly. "NOW!! Watch as these two fighters of unparalled skill fight upon the rooftops in what promises to be an action-filled afternoon! Who will win?! OH, the suspense! OH the drama! Let's find it all out! Get ready... FIGHT!"

More coughing from Kensou. Oh man, that sucked. Maybe it /wasn't/ such a good idea to rush eating... But, too late to worry about that now, because the fight's starting. "Whoa, what, already?!" Kensou says in disbelief, but it's not very audible over the roar of the crowd and the announcer's voice. God dammit. "Tch, fine...! Now I'm gonna show you just how serious I can get!!" And he rushes at Duo Lon, low to the ground. It's probably pretty easy to see his move coming here, especially for somebody like the Hizoku, but Kensou's taking that risk on purpose, suddenly leaping forward to put a foot on one of Duo's upper legs, then his other on his torso, and then use that first leg again to boot Duo Lon in the face - or that's the plan, anyway. "Huo-!!"

Truth be told, Duo had been a little concerned with Kensou's status. All that choking couldn't have been good, after all. And for all of the assassin's mystique and taciturn nature, he wasn't an unkind man. Though you probably couldn't tell that with any ease. After all, look at the guy. AND he's an assassin. He certainly doesn't look like the kind of person to... you know, take pity on his opponent. Of course, that wasn't quite what it was like. Duo's concern also came out of his reasons for fighting in these matches. That of finding worthy, challenging opponents. He'd already fought Adelheid, which was quite challenging and rewarding, even if he lost. A week had been skipped to see to some business (and his injuries), but now here he was again, facing Kensou. Would the Psycho Soldier prove to be a good match, as well? If not, at least Duo would get some money out of it - another goal of his. The attack is seen, though the man's posture doesn't change as the young fighter rushes him, and plants that first foot on his leg. Then another foot is brought down, meant to use his own body as a kind of stepping ladder, but Duo's hands seem to block the way, having still been folded into the sleeves of his robes over his torso. Hands 'catch' the foot, and then push away - not really a throw, but it's meant to push himself back and away from Kensou's other foot, or push Kensou away from him. Or, well, both. Crouching low, just to make sure that foot doesn't connect, the Hizoku takes a wide step back, straightening his posture once more. His long-fingered, ghost-like hand emerges from his long sleeve, then takes ahold of the edge of his robe... and then waves it at Kensou, like a matador daring a bull to attack. "Come at me when you're serious," he says in a neutral tone.

Okay... Kensou probably should've expected that. Clearly, this Duo Lon guy is no joke. End up getting pushed away, he lands easily on his feet as the assassin moves back as well, forcing the younger fighter to reconsider his next move. "Huh... Well, if y' wanna see me serious," he says, tugging his gloves tighter, "I guess I'll havta oblige!"

Suddenly he rushes forward and to one side, possibly trying to flank the Hizoku... But actually, he's just running towards a discarded can on the roof. So much litter, why didn't they clean the place up before the fight! But it works to Kensou's advantage - hopefully - as he soccer-kicks the can right at Duo Lon's head. "Don't just stand there, freakshow!"

As Duo does exactly as Kensou describes - standing there, that is - he doesn't merely let Kensou do as he wishes. Well, to a degree he does, merely turning his head to follow the young Chinese fighter's movements. Perhaps a bit closely, it might seem, for those eyes of his look to be quite sharp, following the Soldier's every step. Close enough that when he moves to bend over to pick up the can, Duo's hand has already let go of the edge of his robe, and has risen, crossed over his chest and held next to his ear. By the time Kensou has thrown the can, Duo's hand has already been engulfed in a sickly purple-white haze, which seems to grow with intensity with each passing moment, until Duo flings his hand straight out. The haze leaves his hand, then travels through the air at Kensou. Midflight, it begins to distort, the 'clear' purple surface beginning to bubble up and misshape into... well, shapes. Black holes open up in the surface of the energy mass, eyes and mouths that writhe on the surface, and even begin to screech as the projectile makes contact with the can, incinerates it, and then continues on towards Kensou with a shrieking wail.

Hey, that's not... Good. Kensou's eyes widen at the crazy ass energy that's flying his way, but there isn't enough time for him to do what he's trying to do... Which is dive the hell out of the way. Instead, the Chinese youth gets blasted by the chi attack, which sends him right off the roof! Or that's what seems to be the case, as he's not actually there anymore once the chi attack has passed. Weird.

Of course, it's not long after that Kensou pops back up... Behind Duo Lon, who may or may not already be aware of his presence. Landing feet-first on the ledge behind the Hizoku, Kensou reaches to grab him by whatever he can get a handful of - hair, clothing, whatever - to pull Duo Lon back, up and over in a pretty graceless throw... Of course if Duo's not careful, he might end up /in the alley below/! "Yaaa-!!"

Aware of the young man's presence or not, Duo either doesn't or can't react to the man's attack in time. A handful of clothes is what Kensou gets, and with that, Duo's rather light frame is lifted up and over, and then across to the next building. If you were to ask the spectators, it'd look like Kensou was just suddenly THERE, and Duo couldn't follow him fast enough, and for his failure, he was thrown over the roof of the main building, to one of the other smaller buildings. A painful two story fall was in store for the assassin... that is, if he didn't catch the edge of the other building's roof. Hands grasp the edge, and though it would look like he saved himself some pain, it was, in fact, still quite painful in a way, the momentum of his fall pulling on his arms, and his body slapping against the wall of the building with a soft thud. He doesn't remain that way for much longer, however, his feet planting on the wall and walking up a short distance, before he lets go of the edge of the building, and pushes backwards, to the closely-spaced building behind him - the one he was just thrown from. From there, he begins to literally leap frog up the walls, bounding back and forth, until he's landed on the main building's edge in a crouch. From there, he seems to sprint at Kensou, intent on driving shallow, but sharp knife-hand up into his stomach. Or at least, that's what the assassin seems to want Kensou to think, as the hand is pulled back, and the assassin's light frame pivots on one heel, spins, and the other leg comes around in a roundhouse snapkick aimed for Kensou's head.

Twisting quickly when he feels Duo Lon coming back up, Kensou is ready! He's ready to totally wreck the Hizoku's Christmas! Quickly gathering energy he thrusts his hand out to meet the assassin who's coming on the counterattack but... Well, it looks like he fell for the feint, 'cause he totally gets kicked in the head, going flying off to one side. He skids a little along the rooftop, finally hitting the far ledge, then starts pushing himself back up to his feet. "Dammit..."

This little assault isn't really over with yet, though, it seems. While Duo fully saw - or rather, felt - the younger fighter's intention of trying to interrupt his attack, it connects anyway, and with enough force to send Kensou skidding across the roof. But close behind is the Hizoku, not about to let such an opportunity slip by him. Racing along behind the Psycho Soldier, he wastes no motion or momentum in his next attack, intent on sweeping Kensou up with one arm and jerking him up over the ledge, and then over the very roof itself as Duo fully intends to launch himself and his 'captive' at the other roof using all the momentum Duo built up, while also spiking the youth straight into the rooftop.

Not this time, though. The sudden brilliance of insight fills Kensou's mind, and rather than just standing there like a dope and getting whipped around by the Hizoku, his hand suddenly comes up and catches the one Duo Lon is trying to grab him with. "No," is all the Psycho Soldier says, his tone unusually serious, as he uses his grasp on Duo Lon to hopefully keep the other fighter off balance, before twisting to aim a thrust-upwards kick at the underside of Duo's jaw, likely powerful enough to lift the other fighter right up off his feet. Oh... And his foot is alight with blue-tinged white energy, while he's at it!

There's two things that catch Duo off guard. Now, it's not so much the fact that Kensou was able to recover that fast - he's seen it before - but more the seriousness which Kensou suddenly exuded about his person. In truth, it made the Hizoku stop cold. Not right away, of course, for his momentum was far too much. That, and the fact Kensou grabs his hand and pulls backwards, is enough to get him -precisely- where the psi-user wants him. That is to say, entirely off-balance. Stumbling a little ungracefully, it's all Duo can do to try and keep his footing, and for that he is rewarded with a strong, and rather painful, crack to his lower skull, specifically the jaw. What was it with people and attacking his face? But in any case, Duo does, in fact, lift up off the ground, but he doesn't go flying back with too much speed, being deposited roughly onto the ground with a rough thud, elliciting cries of surprise from the crowd below. The assassin regains his feet afterwards, a hand gingerly patting at his jaw. "Seems... you've finally gotten serious. Good." A snap of his head to clear his vision, sending that long braid flying, and then Duo is moving forward again. Or... well, he goes forward anyway. The motion part seems to be left out, because at one instant, he's standing several feet away from Kensou, and the next, he's all up in Kensou's business, hands coming up...

The first hand comes up in a stiff knifehand, just like before, aimed for his opponent's stomach. But unlike before, Duolon doesn't mean this as a kind of feint, it's really meant to strike. Swiftly following that, his feet shift, stance sliding so the left foot leads, elbow driving up into the very same spot on Kensou. Then, immediately following that, the Psycho Soldier is treated to a dual palm strike... except, oddly, this one seems like a feint. Except... it's not. Though it's not meant to strike, a force IS felt, even though the assassin's hands will never make contact. A force of some kind issues from those hands, and a blow just as strong as any other impacts against Kensou. Even through a block, the force of the sudden blast of energy should be enough to knock Kensou back, if not completely off the roof and onto the next.

But luckily, yes, Kensou's got his guard up this time, and he's able to deflect the worst of the damage from Duo Lon's strikes, though the force behind that last one does indeed push him back despite the guard - energy attacks are funny that way, it seems. "I'm always serious!" Kensou declares, which is patently untrue, and then he's on Duo again, lashing out with a wild haymaker! "Uryaa-!!" If that hits, then he follows it up with a quick combination of fist and elbow strikes ending it off with a back-shoulder block, to knock the lithe assassin away. "Yaaa-!!"

Patently untrue, but perhaps not so much this time? For as quick as the Hizoku is, he's always been a little fragile. Dodging attacks completely, he could do with ease, but if he gets hit, he's in for a ride on the pain train, generally. As is the case here, where Duo's feet shift to begin an evasive stance, but that young fighter's fist is a little too fast, catching the assassin unawares, and then the shock of it delaying his reaction until he's lying, some feet away from Kensou, quite badly hurt. Shifting his legs, he regains his feet with only the smallest of grunts, seeming unphased, despite taking such a hard blow. Wasting no words this time - it seemed pointless, really - Duo charges at Kensou once more, but this time stops a little short, feet skidding as his momentum carries him forward. Shifting his stance, he seeks to first raise a stiff side kick into Kensou's stomach, then come around with his other foot to a fast roundhouse, aimed for the side of his opponent's head.

Returning briefly to a regular stance after his combination successfully knocks Duo Lon away, Kensou is actually ready for the Hizoku's next attack; he's grazed by the first kick, falling back from it and landing on one hand, that arm staying stiff to keep him up. He thrusts one foot out into Duo Lon's gut, hard, following it up with a second kick from his other foot. "Yo-!! Yaa-!!" Looks like Kensou's gotten into a groove, here, maybe!

Kensou seems to have worked into a groove alright... an offensive-defense posture, perhaps, allowing Kensou to simply draw him in, and then counter with his own moves, even though his opponent it no master of redirecting or otherwise avoiding attacks while delivering his own. Strangely enough, and it's likely just Duo's own kind of fighting style, the Hizoku takes the shots to his stomach almost in stride, the kicks definitely having an effect and forcing him back some distance, but he's quick to push on, hand shooting out in order to try a repeat of Kensou's own earlier move by attempting to grab his ankle, pull back and upwards, and then turn his own body and throw the young Psycho Soldier across the rooftop with solid force.

Hey, don't grab that ankle! Kensou slips out of Duo Lon's grasp, pivoting around on his arm to get his feet underneath him. "Whoa..." That was closer than he was hoping it would be! Gritting his teeth, he rushes forwards at Duo Lon again, trying to catch the skinnier man with his shoulder... And keep rushing the pair of them right to the edge of the roof! It's probably not the best way to deal with the Hizoku, but right now, it's what he's got!

No, the shoulder rush probably wasn't the best of ways to get things done with the Hizoku! Especially a speedy one like Duo. As Kensou charges, his shoulder impacts as planned, and for a short distance, the chinamen is carried in the manner Kensou wishes... however, he doesn't stay that way, eventually 'rolling' off the shoulder. But as he does so, an odd occurance seems to happen. Duo rolls in... two directions? Indeed, the assassin seems to split into two people, both shimmering lightly, making it uncertain which one is the real Duolon. But, both feel real enough as they, in unison, begin to perform a series of attacks. First, they both drive a knee up into Kensou's stomach, stopping his forward momentum short. Then, they begin a series of punches and kicks against the young Psycho Soldier, ending with a final dual hammer blow to the back, probably sending Kensou either forward, or down onto the ground. After the series of motions completes, Duo becomes one again, moving away from his downed opponent, out of immediate counterattack range.

Hey, what?! What?! THAT'S NOT FAIR, THIS IS SUPPOSED TO BE 1 VS 1!! Kensou gets beat down by the Hizoku's apparent clones, getting flung forwards... Though he manages to catch the edge of the roof of the far building, wincing in pain as he pulls himself up. That /hurt/. "D-damn..." he mutters to himself, glancing over his shoulder at where Duo should still be. "That's it! Now you've done it! I'm going to show you MY STRONGEST TECHNIQUE!" Standing there, Kensou reaches behind his back... And produces a piping-hot meatbun, seemingly from nowhere. He holds it forward, dramatically, and you can feel the tension in the air. Is this some secret projectile? Does he have a grenade hidden inside? WHAT WILL HAPPEN?!

What happens is, he pops it in his mouth, and eats it.

Indeed, Duo stands where last he was. It's not like he's at the peak of health, either. Kensou has done his fair share of damage to the assassin ninja, and while under normal circumstances, he might truly have followed up such an attack swiftly, he no longer is able to do such. Or rather, doesn't think he should do such... it'd be too much of a strain. Still, as he 'waits' for Kensou to recover (while he himself pretends he's fine, and recovers a bit himself), he watches the young man carefully... carefully, uh, bring out a meatbun. To eat. It's rare to see emotion actually pass over the chinese assassin's face, but this is such an occassion. It's not revulsion, or even anger, it's simply surprise. Blinking a few times, Duo seems at a loss. For a moment. Then, he straightens, and shakes his head. "I see... very well then. We will end this now." And with that, Duo does that near-teleportation trick once more, his form blurring and becoming indistinct, until he reappears once more, right in front of Kensou, aiming a stiff elbow strike for the youth's stomach, then following it up with a shoulder ram that -should- knock Kensou off his feet. Should all go well, Duo will end it all by somehow slipping underneathe Kensou, and driving a low uppercutting palm strike into his lower back.

Oh yeah, that hits the spot. Kensou obviously enjoys his snack - he even does a little dance. However, Kensou's little dance distracts him from the Hizoku doing Crazy Hizoku Things, trying - and failing - to block the first hit, which leaves him wide open for the rest of the combination. And that combination /hurts/, too. "Heh... Okay..." Ow. But... Kensou's obviously not done yet. A bit shakily, he gets to his feet, and then he turns towards Duo Lon again, rushing at him low to the ground. "This time for real...!" Getting in close, he skids to a stop, throwing his right hand forward, open-palm, and pressing his left hand against his right shoulder to brace it...

If Duo weren't fast on his feet, then the follow up Kensou makes after the Hizoku's own attack might've hit. And from the looks of it, it very likely would've put Duolon out of commission, if only just. But as it is, as his opponent rushes in, Duo, in his crouching position, springs up and over the charging man, landing soundly right behind him. And no sooner is that done, then Duo pivots on a heal, and tries to take advantage of any delay in the massive attack - for all that energy released no doubt just put a hole right where Duo was standing, but Duo wasn't looking at that - by beginning a swift series of light, but piercing knifehands, the long nails capping each attack aiming to pepper Kensou with enough damage to hopefully fell him.

Trying to stand his ground through the assault, Kensou doesn't actuall quite manage it, because ow man, nails! That hurts! "Hey! The distance being too close, Duo is unable to stop the dual punchings to his midsection, the fists landing heavily on him, and hurting him quite a bit... but he's not out yet! As Kensou goes up with his fist, Duo goes down, moving into a crouch and quickly sweeping a leg at his opponent's own legs, knocking him at least off balance, if not off his feet. He then half-rises, aiming a short, unchambered kick to Kensou's side, and then, to finish off yet another of the Hizoku's combos, he pivots on one foot, and performs a sharp crescent kick, hard enough to likely send Kensou to the floor.

Ow, ow, ow. Smashed to the ground, beaten pretty badly, Kensou... Knows he can't keep going. That's it for him. But he's not about to just let Duo Lon walk away without another shot... How would that look, really? Pushing himself up, using his hands to vault himself forwards and up diagonally, Kensou tries to knee Duo right in the head. If that hits, then he twists at the waist, to strike with his other knee and push Duo Lon up higher and /then/, if all goes well, he twists and flips in midair to deliver a powerful axe kick to end the attack, to knock the Hizoku down at the rooftop as hard as he can. "Uryaa--!!

Smashed to the ground, Duo is almost fairly certain... that that was all the strength that his opponent had. Most lesser fighters would've gone down much earlier, but Kensou had fairly surprising tenacity. And apparently, he had just a little more in store. Duo's almost ready to drop his guard, when the Psycho Soldier moves. The attack is fairly sluggish, however, which is to be expected. The knee is dodged as Duo simply steps backwards, and then he moves back even further, Kensou's legs hitting nothing but air. With that, Kensou's last strength is spent, and no doubt he stays down until the announcer makes the official call - with his usually loud voice. "THE FIGHT IS OVER!! Ladies and gentlemen, what a match, wasn't that?! It came right down to the wire, and sure enough, the winner is... Duo Lon!" He keeps talking, but for Duo's part, he's stopped paying attention. Truth be told, the Hizoku was barely keeping his feet at the moment. The crowd roars its approval at such a spectacular fight, cheering, growing rowdy, noise makers being set off and the like.
