SNF 2006.07 - Ice! Takuma vs Kula/Mimiru

Russia. A place where men are men, and women are online as mail-order brides for Americans. However, one advantage? The combatants don't have to worry much about having to stop because it gets dark. With the sun moving in an almost exact circle around the horizon, Arctic Snowcats surround the area that's been set up as the main arena for the fight, with remote controlled cameras being operated by technicians in a tented area near the cave itself. Normally, for a fight of this level, there would be a group of people watching, but between the harsh terrain and the lack of any real means of getting there from civilized areas, it seems like only Geese's people and the combatants will be there that day, with perhaps the stray wildlife.
Wearing her usual fighting leathers along with a pair of earmuffs and mittens, Kula Diamond hurriedly finishes up a mug of hot cocoa before the fight begins. She doesn't really feel the cold, which is partly due to the fact she's already tapped into her unique and bizarre powers, her hair already crystalized blue, but it means something to NESTS to have her pretend now and again. Once that's done, the girl sets the empty mug down near the entrance to the cave, and carefully removes the excess accessories before she sets a hand against the cave wall and carefully slides inside, barely lifting her feet to push her forward. Once in, she finds the marked area where she needs to stand before the fight can officially begin, and idly crouches down to examine the floor, trying to guestimate how deep the ice is, and how far the passage the cave system goes.

Ah, Saturday Night Fights... that old tradition being revived brings a tear to Takuma's eyes. Or it would, were he one to cry. It seems that Howard, the old bat, has decided to make SNF more of a global thing--or at least someone in his organization has. That's cool with the Kyokugenryuu master; physical hardship and harsh environments are beneficial to training and besides, it's Takuma. Cold and ice don't bother him at all. In fact, he's already at the fight site... sitting on the ice floor cross-legged, in fact utilizing the famed 'Lotus' position from Yoga. Has he made a concession to the cold?

The answer is yes, sort of--he's got silly, furred boots on his feet. But otherwise he's wearing his typical gi, and his head and hands are bared to the cold... not that he seems to mind. Breath steams out from his mouth and nostrils, and hearing Kula arrive he stands, apparently already prepared.

"Where is the other fighter?" he inquires, not of Kula, but of the closest SNF referee. It's an inquiry, but only a mild one... he's willing to still wait.

Way to go! The Saturday Night Fights came back, new and improved, to actually try to do some competition to the Master's league. By new and improved, the fights have totally new ways of determining who are the true 'winners' of fights by showing with their skills that they can accomplish certain prowess and feats during their battle, or win using certain means and follow certain restrictions.
Alright, no big deal, right? Tonight, it seems that what the fighters are evaluated on happens to be how they use the environment around them to help them in their battle... Unfortunately, that's hardly one of Mimiru's speciality. Worse of it, it -had- to happen in the middle of nowhere, with extremely low temperatures, in a cavern of ice. Nothing like slippery ground... Means that Mimiru won't really be able to rely on her jujitsu here. It'll be such a pain!
If she wants to win, she needs to take some initiatives! Maximize her strength to make her weaknesses disappear! That's it! So Mimiru went on ahead of the other fighter to study the area where they'll fight, and to prepare herself.
"I'm here gramps," comes Mimiru's voice, along with a lovely little 'scratching' noise. Time for Takuma to test his reflexes and his keen fighting instinct, 'cause if he's not fast enough, he'll actually receive a swat on his bottom -- the fight's not quite started yet, after all, it would be unfair to go out with a sneak attack, right? Especially since Mimiru appeared to come out of nowhere and did a drive-by attack. Yep, that's right! The ice make one's footing pretty unsteady, and while the level of the ground is more or less uneven, Mimiru can manage skating around not too badly. And look at the smart gall, dress up all white. Tss, like it'll help her.

COMBATSYS: Takuma endures Mimiru's Quick Punch!

Well, it certainly comes as a surprise! Takuma is half-turning at the sound of Mimiru's voice; his fighting instinct and skill tells him that something's about to happen. And happen it does, as Mimiru's sliding swat smacks squarely on Takuma's seat.

*SMACK*

Of course, while there's a brief, slightly sharp pain, what the -end- result is... Takuma goes sliding, along the ice, and he shows off his inherent sports skill as he turns the slide into a controlled lunge... straight for Kula, intending to shoulder-tackle the young girl.

If Takuma feels any remorse or pity for these young girls... it isn't going to show here. After the fight, he'll treat them to something. Kyokugenryuu lessons or some sake.

COMBATSYS: Kula dodges Takuma's Medium Punch.

Mimiru might have some sliding skill, and Takuma has inherent athleticism, but Kula's been working with ice since...well, since she came out of the tube (read: birth). The girl easily pushes with her toes and ducks to slide gracefully out of the way, and turns on her heel even as she starts to gracefully move partway up a hill before sliding back down and skating forward after her opponent. It's all just tests for now, to see how skilled he is in this environment, as she snaps her head down and around to send her hair spiking out at Takuma. Careful, it's sharp!

From afar, as Mimiru avoids the various icicles that are in her way, she spares a glance over to Takuma and the other girl she's fighting this man with. Looks like she's not the only one who thought about skating! Well, she's small, built like her, so she probably had the same idea, "Tss, copycat," Mimiru mutters under her breath sticking her tongue out some at the thought.
Both of them seems a little occupied with one another, so Mimiru only takes that time to circle the melee and prepare herself for another attack, just when Takuma'll be expecting it the least! Well she thinks.

COMBATSYS: Mimiru focuses on her next action.

A most impressive attack, and one of a kind that Takuma hasn't seen in a while. Still, even with his sliding, it's easy to defend against, at least for now; he interposes his arms, letting the sharp hair impact against his forearms, scoring thin lines of blood. The impact sends him sliding again, and he's quickly rebounding off of one wall.

As he slides, he grabs a hanging icicle, snapping it off, and just after he ricochets--with a little push for emphasis and to adjust his angle--he's hucking the icicle, aimed to strike Mimiru in the torso--wide, blunt end first.

Kula does seem a little more at home here than the other two fighters, but with the girl's experience, it'd be hard to find someone who would do better in the cave than the young female. The impact makes the ice on her hair shatter, into tiny shards, but her hair shifts back to blue almost instantly from the constant flow of chi that eminates from her. Clasping a hand against a wall, tiny ice claws dig into it even as Kula's feet slide around and partway up it. Crouching there for a moment like a character from a highly CGized movie, Kula then scrapes her hand across the ice, leaving marks where her fingers slid, and then pushes off with her feet to twist and kick at Takuma's head as turns his attention towards Mimiru. "Watch out!" That's to her co-fighter, not to Takuma, of course.

Thanks for that warning, Mimiru manages to move... Or just happens to be at the right place at the right time, it's hard to guess which is right, but she ends up being behind a couple of icicles. They actually block the way of the incoming icicle, though it merely shatters into various pieces, some of which actually hit Mimiru through her skating, while some of the other pieces of scattered ice just flies all about harmlessly.
Just being hit while being on skate is destabilizing enough, Mimiru flails her arms abuot a little in the air, not having the time to be hurt right now since she has to prevent herself from falling down and losing her momemtum, "Wow! Wow!" But...! With a little bit of stammering about and 'almost' falling, Mimiru manages to get the upper hand. That was a close call. Thanks to the icicle barrier!
"Have no fear, Mimiru's alright!" She claims as she comes out from her little hideout, "Ta-da!" She says, spinning around some and almost striking a pose. If only she were strong enough, she could take one of those icicles like Takuma did but... She's not, so she'll have to use some other tricks!
And so, she just opts for another rushed attack, "Super Mimiru Punch!!" The girl shouts, which causes her fist to flash with chi as she hurls herself over Takuma and tries to counter by giving him a quick chi-powered punch in the guts.

What to do... what to do. Takuma hasn't fought two-on-one in a while--it's different... and very challenging. Even when opponents have disparate strengths and weaknesses. While Kula was coming in first, Takuma decides to deal with Mimiru's 'super punch' first--the brief impact of chi absorbed by his aura and one upraised forearm... Takuma kicks out, stopping himself against the wall, as he twists to meet Kula's kick with a forearm, stopping it cold. A microinstant later he's pushing off, getting close to Kula, firing off a lunging punch... right into her stomach. Now, normally, Takuma aims a bit higher but... this girl... no. He'll just go for the stomach.

With the latest attack, Kula has reached a conclusion. Where most fighters would be startled against someone pulling a move like that, it seems those with more age are not as easy to take by surprise. Foot meets forearm, and Kula balances precariously there for a moment before she sees the fist coming right into her stomach. There's a "Hglckt!" from the girl as her hands let go and she crumples to the ground for a moment, but she quickly climbs back up to her knees.
Focusing her chi, Kula reaches at the ground, and with the ice claws still on her fingers, digs them into the ground. She pulls, bringing up a nice-sized chunk of frozen liquid with her hand that she holds before her face. Glancing to Mimiru, she gives just a quick headtoss to indicate 'don't get in the way', and then her chi focuses again to shatter the ice, even as she shifts as she holds it so her hand is underneath. It's then that the blue-haired girl blows, as if sending a kiss Takuma's way...except instead of a tiny pink floating heart, it's a sudden gust of icy wind, snow, and ice to at least knock him off balance and blind him, if it doesn't actually hurt him.

Things might prove to be a little more dificult with her skate than she first thought -- she can't really give all of her strength into her attacks, since her momemtum would obviously make her fall. So it's all the harder to keep her balance, but...! Mimiru manages to, a little awkwardly...
She's ready to attack but... Since Kula gives her some weird look and what's happening around doesn't seem really... 'good', Mimiru decides to take a little breather and just skate about some, to regain her balance and just see what goes on.

COMBATSYS: Mimiru gains composure.

With Mimiru choosing to remain on the defensive, Takuma only has Kula's attack to deal with. He recognizes the spray of cold chi and briefly considers his options... and decides to try to cover up... which turns out to be the entirely wrong decision, as his clothing and body are suffused with that power and the impact sends him tumbling.

"Gnnngh!! Very nice, young lady..." Takuma gets back to his feet, setting himself and going into a slight crouch, energy bursting up around his feet in a writhing circle of gold, energy and power flowing through and into him.

COMBATSYS: Takuma gathers his will.

With only a slight upturn to the corner of her mouth to show how she's rather pleased with how that went, Kula shifts her feet into a speed skater's stance, tucks one hand behind her back, and then pushes off to charge towards her opponent. With luck, she'll keep his attention again and allow Mimiru to help whittle him down while Kula takes the more severe blows. No offense to Mimiru at all, but...Kula just figures she's better able to take a hit.
Ignoring the surge in energy around Takuma, Kula skates first to one side, and then suddenly shifts back the other way, jumping to the wall again, the skates made of ice fusing with the wall and allowing her a temporary moment of wall-running as she attempts to circle around Takuma. Even as she starts to slide down, she's twisting, the icy claws reaching to slash at Takuma's backside and keep him off-balance.

There's not much Mimiru can do here -- her fighting options are limited, so she went for what she thought might be the most useful and helpful. At the very least, her teammate seems to be in her 'element', figuratively speaking and deals well with all the ice around. Alas, Mimiru's chi isn't really that good to allow her to do tricks like that. If only it were, maybe she could have done stuff like that too, but she has to content herself with what she has!
Kula's skating just leaves Mimiru stunned for a few seconds. She shakes her head a bit as she does some wall skating and Mimiru frowns a bit, "No fair! That's like... Like... Me plus one, that's cheating.." Well, cheating or not, she has to give it her best! So she helps her teamate by rushing over Takuma and attempt to interrupt is building of power, "Super Mimiru Kick!" The girl shouts as she leaps into the air, chi bursting out of her legs as she spins around and attempts to smack him with the lower part of her leg, so she doesn't actually slash him with her skate blade.

Kula is proving to be quite nimble... and nimble fighters generally have an advantage. Plus, Takuma's getting old... hah! Not that he'd use that as a serious reason for getting hit. The rake of icy claws across his back forces him to stumble forward, blood staining his gi... but most of Mimiru's kick is absorbed by a hastily-thrown block. But...

Even with the pain, and stumbling forward, Takuma's got his wits about him, and even as he skids acrosss the ice, he's twisting his body around, his hands clenched to his stomach. There's no better time for this--both girls are quite close together and Takuma is no longer willing to 'take it easy'. Power is raised and built swiftly, gathering in the older man's hands, and then he flings his arms out. His voice echoes powerfully in the cave as he shouts "Haoh... SHOKOKEN!" and generates a wall of blazing golden chi, streaking towards the girls.

The sudden surge of chi? Kula's gotten smacked really hard by people like Rugal, Kain, and Vega that she knows what a sudden rush of power means, even if in every instance she wasn't really sure where the power came from. And it's for this reason that as the wall of chi approaches, Kula does what might be the silliest tactic of all: she curls up. Unfortunately, she doesn't have the time to help Mimiru, and hopes her partner can get herself out of the way, even as she closes her eyes as the wave gets close. Once it hits, there's a spray of tiny ice crystals as collateral damage...and Kula's left there, with just a thin layer of ice coating her from the barrier she created to keep herself safe. Even through it, she was able to feel the sting of some of that chi, but it could have been a lot worse.
It takes a moment for the ice to crack and then break around her as she stands back up and shakes a bit of excess frost from her hair. Then she's rushing forward again, gathering her chi in one hand even as she barrels forward. She suddenly clenches her fist for a moment, then reaches to perform an open-palm strike on Takuma's chest. Maybe she's just imitating the earlier slap. Or maybe the surge of chi that comes afterward might be a hint to Takuma as to her intent.
All those tiny ice crystals floating in the air now? They'll start to spiral around Kula and Takuma, and then rush in to encase him in his own large shell of ice for...well, about as long as it'll hold him, really. Kula somehow expects it won't be long.

If there was one reason Mimiru actually decided to do this fight on skate, it has to be to maximize her speed and give her a little advantage here! While it didn't really show off up until now, Mimiru finally manages to draw upon the quintessence of her tactic to avoid Takuma's blast of golden chi.
The girl quickly dashes about and she flees! It proves to be rather good, since she can dodge Takuma's attack using her speed to move out of the way before it actually catches her in its wave. "Ouf, that was a close call..." She mutters under her breath, one hand going up to her forehead.
The battle's far from being over though and Mimiru quickly tries to get back on the offensive -- though her current fighting still's more based on wearing out her enemy rather than anything else. She tries to close in from Takum and as she gets close enough, she kneels slightly, only to rise up and raise her fist up in the air, "Super Mimiru Uppercut!"

Actually, Kula... they won't hold Takuma at all. It's strange, but oftentimes Takuma's true abilities don't 'wake up' until he's taken some damage and had his senses shocked a little. He pushes off, backstepping rapidly, eluding Kula's icy technique... and that puts him moving right into Mimiru. His intent is to cut her off, to stop her before she really gets started, and so he leans in, penetrating Mimiru's arc of motion... and then he replies, his fists slamming out again and again, impacting on Mimiru's body in a peppering fashion, glowing with golden energy--he strikes fourteen times in just a few seconds, finishing the attack with a right uppercut that impacts right on her chin.

Ow. Ow ow ow. The blows didn't hit Kula, but she could feel them each time they landed on Mimiru. She could feel them in her -teeth-. That had to hurt. But at least now Takuma's back is to her. Thinking fast, Kula glances ceilingward...and spots a stray icicle stalagm-...stalagti-.... man, she doesn't even know what to call it.
Shaking her head to bring her back to the here and now, Kula jumps, both hands reaching up to dig tiny ice-formed claws into the ceiling and hold herself, and then she brings her legs up and kicks at the overly large icicle, to send it spinning towards Takuma. Along with that she yells a sharp "Hey! Leave her alone!" just before she drops back down to the ground.

To be totally honest, between the time she actually knelt down to attack and after that, she missed a little just what happened. Though she's pretty certain that it must have been anything but pleasant. Her body hurts, and thanks to her skate, being knocked off-balance and thrown off away some distance with the force of the given onslaught wasn't much of a problem. Especially since the last attack happens to be what Mimiru couldn't deliver.
When Mimiru comes back to her senses, a few seconds later, she finds herself on the ground, pretty dazed. Things are a bit blurry and her head spin a little, she smashed a couple of icicles on the way down the cave but still... At least she can quickly figure the fight isn't over since she still hears noise of battle, and without really asking herself further questions, she rises up so she can fight.
Rising up too quickly wasn't all that bright though and Mimiru figures she needs a second or two to actually get her bearings back.

'Leave her alone...'? What does Kula think this is, 'beat up on Takuma day'? As if. The girl's a warrior, she knows what to expect. There's no way Takuma would be caught dead giving anyone an easy time, no matter what. He's too much of a teacher--and an ego--for that. Seeing the spinning icicle come his way, he sidesteps it, letting his slide continue briefly. In fact, he keeps going, coasting on his booted feet, pushing off to gain speed... looking to perform a quick 'move-by' attack.. that is... to skate by Kula and try and trip her up quickly.

Knock Kula off balance? On the contrary, Kula was hoping Takuma would focus more on her. That was the whole point of the sloppy projectile and the shout-out. Mimiru -is- a warrior, and Kula wants her to get every chance possible to prove it. Kula simply braces herself, and shifts so that when Takuma jabs at her, Kula takes it in the side and uses it to spin her around, hands coming up as she curls up slightly to keep her momentum and prepare to retaliate. The icy claws form on her hands again, and she swipes once, twice, three times as she spins around at Takuma, not holding back as she figures the old man can take having something sharp break the skin. Afterward, a clawed hand will sink back into the ground to slow her to a stop.

Mimiru is certainly going to prove it -- no one actually smacks Mimiru that hard without actually getting some kind of retaliation back! If not that, at least some insults.. In this case, it's not the latter Mimiru will use, but she'll counter with something! She'll give him a beating of his own and teach this old man what it feels like to be plundered by a series of super mimiru punch!
"Alright," Mimiru says, slapping herself as she gets in the right frame of mind. She kneels slightly, getting ready to make a dash for it, hoping that Kula will be able to distract Takuma long enough for her to get close to him. Though even with that, Mimiru decides to take all of the chances on her side and she gives herself a little boost of chi in her feet, if only to speed up her start and acceleration as she rushes over to him.
No attack name shouting this time! Nope, only some screaming as she comes close enough to him, bright white chi engulfing her fists as she swings them right at Takuma one after the other! And somehow, she manages to keep her momemtum and balance, even on skates on the ice, long enough for her to go wild in her kick and punches.

It's a good thing that Kula can stop herself... because Takuma has no intention of letting his body be a stopping point for Kula's slashing attack. Because it's a vertically-oriented attack, Takuma does something he hasn't done in a while--he sidesteps and leans, letting the bluehaired NESTS clone pass him by. Unfortunately, that does mean he's right there for Mimiru's pummeling kicking and punching sequence... and it does land, drawing a bit of a laugh from the old man.

"That's good, very good form!" he calls out, and while it may sound like a taunt, it's actually meant very genuinely; with a push from the legs, Takuma's leaping away, to get a little breathing room.

"You two are very good! How would you like some lessons in the ultimate martial art of Kyokugenryuu?"

COMBATSYS: Takuma gains composure.

There's a slight hesitation from Kula as Takuma speaks well of the two of them, and she glances at Mimiru for a second with a puzzled expression before she starts to move forward again. She'll be MORE than happy to discuss lessons after the fight, but right now, they're on SNF time, and that means she has to focus on her job. Kula skates forward, reaching to use her momentum and the slippery surface to her advantage as she suddenly falls backwards, sliding across the ground towards Takuma like an out-of-control luge contestant. Reaching out, Kula attempts to grab one of those fuzzy boots and yank to pull Takuma's feet out from under him and slam him onto the ground, even as she's wondering what she could learn from Kyokugenryuu.

"Unfortunately," Says Mimiru as she regains her footing some. "I am already training under Chizuru Kagura! And with her, I'll learn how to harness the power to destroy the evil Orochis!" So are Mimiru's claim, as she strikes a pose. Though she doesn't elaborate on the matter, there are other things they have to deal with. Mostly winning this fight after all!
And since Mimiru's really big on teamate power, she decides to give Kula a hand and she lunges on Takuma in an attempt to help Kula destabilize him and slam him onto the ground, by simply trying to push and shove him.

COMBATSYS: Takuma dodges Mimiru's Strong Punch.

Kula's grab occurs almost at the same time that Mimiru comes lunging in; fortunately for Takuma, that means that dealing with Kula's grabbing one of his legs puts him out of position for Mimiru's attack. In fact, Kula's grab succeeds, but rather than letting himself be dumped on his back, Takuma twists, pushing off along the slick ice, converting the momentum into a skid that lets him get back up... and once again... his hands are brought close to his stomach, glowing with energy... and they're flung wide, releasing the chi-wall projectile. But no shout this time... it's too late in the battle for Takuma to care about that.

Sadly, this time Kula isn't in a very good position to be able to shield herself. A small barrier of ice comes up to take some of the blast, but it gets ripped apart into tiny particles of snow as the blast further moves Kula up against a wall. It's there that Kula just cringes some, and slowly rolls herself over to her stomach and puts both hands on the ground. Hopefully, Mimiru is going to keep Takuma busy for a moment so Kula can focus. If not, though, maybe he'll just think she's taking a breather and get a moment to 'rest'.
There's a build-up of chi from Kula as she takes a few deep breaths, and then she suddenly releases it into the ground. There's silence, and then the cave itself starts to shake as Kula bites her lip to keep herself aware of what she's doing. With the walls cracking and icicles falling, hopefully Takuma will be too busy to notice the sudden surge of ice spikes that erupt from the ground underneath him to boost him up into the air, effectively creating a 'catcher's mitt' around him that faces the front of the cave. ...but that can't be all, can it?

Unfortunately, unlike last time, Mimiru's skates aren't going to save her from the barrage of chi! The wave of golden chi totally knocks off Mimirau far away from Takuma, slamming her off some distance against one of the ice formation. Mimiru can't really keep this up much longer and she feels her strength fading, she's not sure she might be able to make it all the way up over to Takuma so...
She might as well give her last bit of energy and try to perform her Super Mimiru Ball! While she doubts she could aim well enough in the melee, Mimiru decides to... Well, damn, seems like Kula's always a step ahead of her! Oh well. Once she manages to gather her chi energy in her palms, she simply flings it off in Takuma's direction.

COMBATSYS: Mimiru can no longer fight.

Well, if anything, the Mimiru ball kept him distracted to let the icy 'glove' catch him. It seems rather determined to hold onto him, freezing around his feet and ankles. But sure enough, that isn't it. Kula's hair starts to crack as the ice shatters, a wind starting to gust in from the mouth of the cave. ...Mimiru might be better off not being fully awake for this one.
When the wind starts pouring into the cave's mouth, it makes the entire structure rock again, more icicles and ice crystals falling from the ceiling. Picking the debris up as it goes, the wind slams into Takuma, barraging him with ice, snow, and pieces of the cave that become dislodged from the miniature blizzard that suddenly swept inside. The cave probably isn't going to be in any shape to be used again for quite a while after this fight, what with the structural damage, but Kula, even as she continues to unleash her chi, seems to be holding back slightly so a cave-in doesn't bury all three of them. If anything, some of the icy structure seems to be getting strengthened by it...just not enough to risk subjecting any other fighters to it after this is over.
Once that is over and done with, Kula's hair (now back to it's original red, just soaked from water) slumps back down onto her shoulders, and she slumps a bit, taking deep breaths. Doing that takes a lot out of her, it seems.

It's a shame, really; while Mimiru's 'Super Mimiru Ball' was easily dodged... well, Takuma had his own ideas in mind to deal with Kula. This attack did NOT look like fun... and...

And, no, it isn't fun. Not for him anyways; he bites back a scream of pain out of pure cussedness and machismo. He'll definitely be congratulating Kula and Mimiru later... later meaning... when he isn't passed out. Because that's what he is right now... yeah. Passed the fugg out. Not that he has any regrets; much like Ryu, he lives for the strong fighters, and he's pleased both that they held up well and that he held up well.
