Neo League 026 - #30: Charlie vs Guy

Description: Charlie and Guy fight for the League at Masters Stadium! After a long battle, full of awesome and general silence on each side, Charlie manages to bring the pain to Guy and then save his own skin right at the end for the win! (Winner: Charlie)

Even as he's considering a leave of absence from the Vigilantes, Charlie knows he can't let something like that be an excuse to let his skills dull. So when Ken advertised this 'Neo Fighting League', Charlie took a few days to think about it, but decided to join; at least he'd have a way to keep his skills up, no matter what, and the fights needn't be life and death. And since it's Ken's league, where better to have his first league fight than in Ken's own Arena? So it is that Charlie waits at one of the starting marks; he doesn't know who his opponent is (literally) but expects it'll be entertaining nonetheless. The list of joined fighters is impressive, though there are some surprise names on that list.
Charlie is dressed in his usual, recognizable outfit; a few dedicated fight fans are in the stands, waiting for Charlie's opposition to show up, just as the blond American does.

Interestingly enough, Guy has a similar reason for joining up with Neo Fighting League. He knows that he's skilled at fighting, but he also knows, from often painful lessons in the past, that he's nowhere near as powerful as he needs to be, in order to combat certain great evils that threaten the world. And what better way to grow in strength than by testing it against fighters the world over? It's certainly preferable to punching logs under a waterfall.
But that's neither here nor there. Guy has a fight to focus on, and that's no laughing matter. Some people might enjoy punching the crap out of other people, but even here, in a friendly, recreational fight, Guy is focused and intent on the task at hand. It falls closer to duty than pleasure. It's thoughts like these that fill Guy's mind as he enters the ring quietly, footfalls crunching on the sandy strip in the middle of the arena. He stops, folds his arms, and stares at Charlie, a frown evident on his face. He doesn't say anything, but then, he really doesn't need to. Both men know why they're here. It's only a matter of time until they start.

Charlie's been having a sort of crisis as of late. But there's an essential quality about him, a sort of cheerful optimism, that can't be beaten down for too long. And it shows in his grin, his casual (if intent) sizing up of Guy. He's heard of the ninja before--when you save a city your name tends to be jotted down, particularly by intel groups--but he's never met the man to his recollection.
Charlie tosses a salute, one of respect, and calls out, across the arena, "Well... Shall we get started here, then?" It's a bit unusual for a way to start the fight--not nearly as hype-pumping or flashy as some, but it'll do as far as Charlie's concerned. He's not Ken, after all.

There's a fairly standard response Guy has in regards to cheery goodnaturedness. Don't return it in any way - if anything, look a little bit more pissed. It's not as though he's conciously trying not to be happy. It's more of a conditioned response, a pure reaction to people being what one might call 'too happy'. Among the people Guy is used to dealing with, happy is usually a bad sign.
At least Charlie is being respectful, though. Guy offers only a nod back, and then unfolds his arms and begins to walk forward toward Charlie. "Fine." Pace gradually increasing, Guy first breaks into a jog, then a run, until he's flat out sprinting at the Vigilante. Leaping into the air, he comes down foot first, aiming to land roughly on Charlie's face, and land hard.

COMBATSYS: Charlie blocks Guy's Strong Kick.

The high jump kick, a classic attack, staple of many fighters. Maybe that's why Charlie seems so ready for it; watching Guy, calmly, still grinning just a tad, but getting more serious with every step from the fast ninja. As that foot comes down he raises a forearm, blocking the attack at the last moment; with his free hand he takes his glasses off, smoothly tucking them into a inner pocket of his vest. As guy is disinclined to make verbal conversation, Charlie intends to communicate the other way--with a kick right to Guy's sternum, faster than it is strong.

Fast as that kick may be, Guy is faster. With a flip backward off Charlie's upraised forearm, Guy's landing is easy, and he has plenty of opportunity to shift and take the kick on his upper arm, near the shoulder. It's not the most fragile of place on Guy's body, to say the least.
If Guy is thankful for Charlie's decision not to talk a lot, he's certainly not saying so. Maybe his frown lessens just a hair, but that's it. Fighting without the distraction of talking can be a relief, sometimes, especially when there's nothing to say.
Stepping forward after taking the kick, Guy mixes things up a little, throwing several small, probing punches at Charlie's midsectino, before coming around and driving a much more significant blow toward Charlie's face.

COMBATSYS: Charlie endures Guy's Medium Punch.

Charlie lets the little punches hit; they barely sting, really. That blow to the face? Well, you've seen those movies where a guy takes a shot to the jaw, then smiles around it? Yeah, it's something like that; Guy's punch lands true, but Charlie twists his head around to absorb some of the blow.
"My turn," he says, simply, as he lunges forward to grab Guy--if successful he'll snag the ninja around the neck and hold him in place for several hard and fast knee strikes before hiptossing him away.

COMBATSYS: Guy fails to interrupt Knee Gatling from Charlie with Houzantou.

It's a bit disturbing to see someone just take a punch like that - nevermind that Guy's done the exact same thing many a time. He knows what's coming next, but that doesn't mean he knows what, exactly, and that costs him. Trying to duck and spin, to deliver a punch to Charlie before he can really do significant damage to Guy, instead the ninja finds himself in Charlie's grasp, and pummeled handily. Rolling to his feet afterward, Guy's not in much of a position to go back on the attack just yet.

Charlie eyes the ninja; tricksy beasts they are, and so Charlie is just as happy to not press the fight just yet... he keeps all eyes on Guy, turning to face the rolling man, his expression losing some of that carefree lightness, eyes narrowing. He wants to see what the ninja will do next--to see if the ninja will show him any tricks--before he comes in for another attack.

COMBATSYS: Charlie focuses on his next action.

Charlie          0/-------/---====|====---\-------\0              Guy

Make no mistake, just because he wasn't in the best position to attack doesn't mean Guy's just going to let Charlie stand there and wait for him. If Charlie won't press the attack, then the Bushin-ryu ninja will. Lunging forward, palm facing outward in front of his out-stretched body, Guy summons up his inner energy reserves, and chi flares forth, a red ball of fire blasting forward a short distance to Charlie.

Charlie          0/-------/---====|=====--\-------\0              Guy

Well, that is definitely some trick there; Charlie's eyes go wide as the ball of fire comes in, reminding him ever so briefly of getting blasted by Ryu and that damn blue hadouken... however, this time it is not to be as Charlie summons his own chi energies, actually stepping forward, into the fireball, slicing his right fist across it's path--literally splashing the fireball out of the way. And as a nice followup from there, the excess energies from his fist lash out in a wide, spinning arc, at Guy. Normally, see, Charlie would shout out the movename but it seems inappropriate here, like Benimaru slumming at an elementary school.

COMBATSYS: Guy overcomes Sonic Boom from Charlie with Large Thrown Object.

It certainly is a a useful thing to be able to do, especially against your average street thug. Most of them have no idea how to deal with chi, being more used to the physical sort of beating. Not that Guy doesn't do that, too. It's just that the fireballs are better.
Hopping back quickly from Charlie's swiftly moving Sonic Boom, Guy's choices are limited, until he notices that he's right in front of a small tree. In the space of a split-second, his decision is made, and Guy ninjas his way behind it, before leaping up and striking at the top of it. The sonic boom crashes into its base, essentially causing it to start to fall, and then Guy's kick sends it tumbling right back down at Charlie.

A tree. Impressive, especially the way it's flying at him; Charlie throws himself into a backspring, grabbing a flat rock off the ground, and as he comes up he underarm chucks it at the tree; it pretty much disintegrates, but a chunk of the tree trunk bounces off the ground and then off of Charlie's leg. Not that it seems to bother him much; he rubs the spot briefly, then just... waves at Guy.. and beckons for the ninja to 'bring it' again.

This is something that Guy is more than willing to do. In fact, Charlie can consider it brought, because Guy is charging at him again, kicking up dirt behind him. Leaping up once again, Guy flips, and unlike last time, he only extends a foot at the last moment, directly above Charlie, in an attempt to land on his head for a moment, in true ninja fashion.

COMBATSYS: Charlie endures Guy's Light Kick.

UNGA! Well, Charlie doesn't actually shout it, or anything... he's not that crass. But that headstomp doesn't look too bad, and so Charlie braces for it... leaving the Ninja on his head. Well, we can fix that, can't we? Charlie snaps his hands up, grabbing for Guy's feet, intending to do the cartoony, and just slam the man down onto the pavement.

Charlie does, indeed, nab Guy's ankle, but the ninja is fully aware of it. Really, who wouldn't try to get a ninja off their head? Thusly prepared, Guy curls into a ball before he even hits the ground, going down in a roll that absorbs most of the damage. Coming up smoothly onto his feet, it's hardly a moment before he's coming right back at Charlie, driving a dashing elbow straight at the man's gut.

And elbow is met with elbow, Charlie's teeth bared at the moment of impact, as if he doesn't even feel the spark of pain from the impact; he pushes down, and across his body, to turn Guy's body away from his, and follows that movement into a quick shoulder-check. He seems energized by the fight--not even really seeming to care if he's winning or losing. He'll have to thank Guy for it afterwards, no matter what.

COMBATSYS: Guy endures Charlie's Quick Punch.

Well, that's all very well and dandy for Charlie, but Guy's in this to win, not to feel good - only be trying his absolutely hardest can he hope to improve. His elbow rebuffed, Guy spins, the force of Charlie's first shove adding to his own momentum, allowing him to face the shoulder-check straight on. It crashes into his chest, but Guy was ready for that, prepared. He doesn't move an inch, instead instantly snapping a leg up and around toward Charlie's face, leading into a whole series of brutal kicks, before backflipping away, only to leap forward, his path through the air almost horizantal, to deliver a massive, flying, finishing kick.

COMBATSYS: Charlie endures Guy's Bushin Gourai Kyaku.

Biff! Pow! Bang! Guy gets his kicks.. on Route 66. Or rather, on Charlie, as the man is still out of position for any sort of defense. He's beat up, beat down, beat all 'round. But something's kind of odd about the way he's taking the hits--almost like he expects them. And then that last kick.. it hits... but it doesn't tumble Charlie away. Oh, no sir.
"A good series, mister," he grunts, "Let me show you mine!" And then Charlie is a blur of motion... maybe not as fast as the ninja but his combination isn't just prissy kicks; it's good old American backfists and hook punches and straight up kicks to the face. And they've all got that extra sting to it--that is, Charlie's serving up some chi with the strikes, slicing glowing arcs through the air. Picturesque, indeed; the last strike is one of Charlie's trademarks, a spinning backfist.

COMBATSYS: Guy dodges Charlie's Crossfire Blitz.

That's right - it's not as fast as the ninja. It's fast, sure, and it looks /painful/ as all hell, but that's a bit moot seeing as Guy's nowhere near it. There is a reason he doesn't often talk in the middle of a fight. It's a distraction, and can often serve as a warning. As soon as Charlie paused to talk, Guy was already moving, leaping up into a nearby tree where he simply waits Charlie out.
That accomplished, Guy's ready to try to hit Charlie before he fully recovers. Hopping off his tree, Guy simply lets himself act as a missile, foot outstretched toward Charlies as he falls. Before, he was trying to land on the man - now, he's trying to drive the man into the dirt. It's all in how you land, and Guy isn't planning on giving any mercy in this regard.

Ok, so he missed. With all of the attacks. That's--that's okay. Because, darn it, he's good enough, strong enough, and Chun-Li likes him. (Though not like that.) Guy's fast, damned ninja are always fast... there must exist in this world a slow ninja. Then again, maybe the other ninja ate him for dinner. Guy's missile-drop kick doesn't go unnoticed, though... and maybe that's bad for Guy.
...
Yeah, it's bad for Guy. Sure, he hits. But he hits a Charlie who isn't recovering--it's a Charlie who's getting ready to attack. And attack he does; Guy's feet land on Charlie's shoulders, but not perfectly straight down, and then Charlie's ripping the air with a kick. Two kicks, actually, Charlie having turned at the last second and propelled himself up into the air just after Guy's landing to flip himself backwards, heels first, kicking arcs through Guy's body--and not just with his heels, but with yet more of that white-green 'sonic' chi that Charlie employs. His shoulders hurt, but it isn't too bad; he turns to face where Charlie thinks Guy will land after that.

Simply put? Ow. Guy knows he did damage, but at what cost? AT WHAT COST!? At the cost of getting kicked around like a soccer ball, that's what cost. It hurts like hell, simply put. The sonic chi slices into his body, sending the ninja flying up and away like some kind of wounded ninja superman, but then he lands with a thud. For a moment, he doesn't move.
Then he stirs, hauling himself up onto his feet. Guy's not standing quite straight - he's too hurt for that, feeling too much pain - but that doesn't mean he can't rush forward again with the express purpose of kicking Charlie's ass. Dashing forward, Guy waits for as long as he can, and then hops, spinning in the air. His leg comes up and around, the hell of his foot crashing down toward Charlie's shoulder in a vicious, axe-like motion.

COMBATSYS: Charlie interrupts Hayagake from Guy with Step Kick.

Amongst his friends and colleagues, Charlie can be known for being reckless--almost as much as Chun-Li... if not more so on occasion. And so Charlie looks up, gauging distance... time to target... time to target... NOW. And just as Guy's heel is descending, Charlie shifts a little, the kick slipping off his shoulder, missing full impact. But Charlie doesn't. He's already moving forward, his heavy, booted foot, targetted right at Guy's chest--and it hits, verily and true, throwing Guy back away from the American.. who looks pretty beat up but happy all the same.

With a grunt, it looks like Guy is finished. That last kick, while not the most potent thing in the world, was more than adequate. Guy didn't have much to give at that point, and now he doesn't have anything at all. Still, he's on his feet, and with one last burst of strength, he takes a few quick steps forward and grabs at Charlie's collar. The success of that one little grab determines what happens afterward.

COMBATSYS: Guy can no longer fight.

COMBATSYS: Charlie dodges Guy's Bushin Musou Renge.

Unfortunately for Guy, that grab--isn't successful. Charlie jerks back, clearing Guy's grabbing hands, watching the ninja for any other tricks... but Guy was obviously on the way down and so Charlie doesn't hit him any more... as far as Charlie's concerned the fight's over, unless Guy wants to make it not.
He's breathing heavily, bruised and scraped and bleeding--and he thoroughly enjoyed the fight. Whether Guy is awake or not, Charlie breathes out, "Good fight, man. You're a hell of a fighter."
