Medal Tournament - Shingo vs Heavy D!

Description: The age old question of who hits harder: a boxer or some dude that just punches the heck out of people? The answer may...not surprise you. (Winner: Heavy D!)

*BRRRRRIIIIIIIIIIIIIING*

Hooray! Another day of classes has come to a close for the student population of Taiyo Gakuen. It's quite a sight to behold, honestly. For up until the moment the bell rings the streets and sidewalks are pretty much empty and barren. Sort of like an urban desert town. Minus the sand. Then that clock chimes on the hour and *BOOM*. Teenager explosion as the kids attending the school stampede as fast as their legs can take them out of the hallways and into the courtyard to flow out the front entrance like water through floodgates. Sure there are a several who choose to stay behind late to hang out, do club meetings, detention, extra studying, and what have you. But generally the school clears out. More or less.

One of those students who almost always stays back right after the last bell is none other than Shingo Yabuki. This is because he likes to use this time as his personal practice session to get better with his self-taught techniques of Kusanagi-ryuu as well as working on shooting flame like his idol and recent graduate of Taiyo, Kyo Kusanagi. Placing his bag on a nearby bench, Shingo gets started with some warming-up and stretches then moves into the repetition of his techinques. It's not long after that his practice becomes somewhat audible to those walking past the school compound with his signature and most common battle cries. Especially that crowd favourite of his most famous technique. Everyone knows the one. The kick thing.

Bad time for one Heavy D! to be running past. He's totally unaware of the training inside the school...mostly because he's left dealing with the mass exodus of high-school kids in the midst of his own training. "Whoa!" she shouts, forced to stop his jobbing session in order to weave in and out of the masses funneling out of Taiyo. Maybe he should have swung around the other school instead on a run....

Of course, he's got a medal hanging around on his jacket...that's why he's kind of training, ya know. The whole funky medal tourney and all that.

Obliviousness goes both ways. Or something to that effect. For despite the shouting out of HeavyD as he narrowly avoids punching the heck out of some of the less than fighterlicious members of Taiyo High. A good thing too since those fits of the boxer may end up causing any of the fragile students to spontaneously combust. Without the flaming. And speaking of without the flaming...

Shingo, at just the right time, turns around after executing one of his techniques to spy HeavyD jog past the front gates as he bobs and weaves between the boy's schoolmates. Of course anyone who knows Shingo is aware of what's going to happen next. "Hey! Mister D!" Shingo waves exuberantly with one hand to the man in greeting and to possibly catch his attention if the shout wasn't enough to carry over the tons of other voices associated with highschool students leaving school. The boy's medal glistening in the sunlight with his movement.

It's a miracle that Shingo is at all noticed, with D! still struggling to simply walk past the gate. Run? HAH. It's like making his way through shin-deep molasses. At least, until the rush finally ends. Slumping over with his hands on his knees, the boxer shakes his head, wondering why he decided to go around this way at this particular time of day. "Ugh..."

Turning his head to the side, he gives Shingo a quick wave back before looking back down at the sidewalk. Looks like he didn't particularly notice the medal in his worry about regaining his rhythm.

That's something anyways. And all the boy really was looking for. To get the American's attention and to say 'Hi' more than anything else. Being as friendly as he is. Shingo shouts out to D! again to make sure he's heard clearly, "Hehehe, Mister D!, you picked a perfect time to come by the school, huh?" This apparently amuses the boy enough that he seems to have put a hold on his practice session for the time being. Some girls walking by in their school uniform call out to Shingo and wave at him with smiles and he turns away from D for a second to return the gesture. "See you tomorrow!"

HeavyD simply nods in agreement. "I need to make a note not to jog past this way again in the afternoon," he says back to the Kusanagi-ryuu Kobojutsu student. Slowly, he comes up to an upright position, shaking his head loose a bit as he readies himself to run off yet again. "So what exactly have you been up to?" he asks, slowly starting a quick run in place before he looks back to Shingo. That run stops pretty much cold as he finally notices that glinting medal pinned on the student. "...I guess that answers my question."

"Huh?" Shingo looks back to D! when the girls go off wherever it was they were walking to and blinks confused at him. The Taiyo student scratches his head thinking to himself what is the other fighter talking about. He didn't even offer up an answer to the question yet. "What do you mean?" He finally asks, still unsure if the two of them are on the same page or not. Because he doesn't think they are. So much is Shingo intent of figuring out what's going on that he hasn't noticed the medal on Heavy D as of yet. Give him a few, he'll get it eventually.

HeavyD hrms as Shingo doesn't seem to get the gist of what the boxer is talking about. Rather than simply wait for him to get it, however, D! turns around and faces front at Shingo. Reaching up to his jacket, he unpins the medal from the collar and dangles it from his fingertips. "You have one of these on you, don't you?" he asks. Maybe he'll get it now.

And Shingo is supposed to be an intelligent young man, right? Or so his grades and teachers claim. Nothing like the obvious to get him to understand the boxer. "Oh!" He starts laughing at his own foolishness. It's always a good when someone can laugh at themselves. If you can't laugh at yourself then who can you laugh at? Besides for the comic relief guy that keeps falling over whenever he goes to hit somebody. After the laughter dies down he nods to the older man, "Yep! Sure do! I thought you were talking about something else, that's all." Shingo grins widely and thinks for half a second. "Hey, Mister D, if you're not busy right now...want to do a quick match? Your medal for mine? Unless you're not taking on any challengers right now. That's cool." And it is. He'd rather not push the man into doing a fight if he doesn't want to.

HeavyD just...raises his eyebrow at Shingo laughing at himself, waiting for the boy to settle down. Luckily, he doesn't have to wait long. As soon as Shingo throws out the challenge, however, he pauses, lowering his hand down to think it over a little bit. "...what the heck. I guess I could do a match. It's better than just running for training. Nothing like the real thing, right?"

They've got an agreement there. "Yep! Nothing beats real experience in becoming a better fighter! Practice and training help, but still. But uh, yeah. We've got enough room here." Shingo gives a quick glance around the courtyard to make certain that there are no stray students about to run into the field of combat and widens his legs into a clear fighting stance. A stance that's made even more clear when he pulls on his black gloves tightly despite them already being snug on his hands. Particularly when he curls his fingers into fists. Shingo holds his right fist straight out as customary in professional boxing bouts for boxers to touch gloves. He assumes it's customary anyways. Never really watching a real boxing match. If not, D can think of it has daps before a fight. "Good luck!" Grin.

HeavyD looks around as well, making sure along with Shingo that there's no stragglers that might get hurt in their fight. Once he's sure of it, he makes his way to a clear part of the yard, opposite Shingo. Turning toward the boy, he settles into his boxing stance (which really bears little more explanation). Digging his feet into the grass, he keeps watch on the boy. As the friendly fist comes out, D! extends his own right hand to touch gloves with Shingo before scooting back, giving some room between the two of them. "You too."

Pre-fight etiquette out of the way with the touching of fists and the wishing of each other 'Good luck' and other such pleasantries, Shingo takes that as the signal for the exchanging of hitting to commence. He immediately hops back to give himself much more distance than he had before and it is soon apparent why. "SHINGO KIIIIICKU!" Shingo's favourite opening technique. It's not like he uses it every time he starts a match off, but pretty close. Maybe he'll stop being so predictable. Maybe. But maybe he won't. Or maybe he will. Just to keep someone on their toes. Someone like HeavyD quite possibly?

Yeah, predictable. Which is why D! really has no problem getting his guard on the shot. Lifting up his arms, he meets the kick quickly, taking the strike on his broad forearms. Brushing the kick asside, he slips off to the side, waiting for Shingo to land. Why? Because he knows he can get a better shot on Shingo when he's not moving in a way that could lessen the effectiveness of his punch. Finally, once he's got a bead on Shingo, he snaps out, trying to drive several quick punches into Shingo's side from stomach to shoulder.

There is no try. Only success. For HeavyD that is. Shingo seeing the punches coming in at him and againt all odds decides that he'll take a risk by driving down an elbow to intercept the first punch and set up for his other well-known technique and some may argue his most annoying technique. When it hits anyways. This not being the case today. Go figure. Oh well. He doesn't sweat it much. D! hits hard and all but it's still early in the fight. No clear victor as yet and there probably won't be for a good while till it comes down to the very end. As it stands, Shingo takes a step back to do his best at keeping his balance upright against the combination.

Ah, good, his punches not only hit, but it stalled SHingo in his counter attempt. Perfect! That gives D! room to pull out some of his own, more complex moves. Reaching for Shingo's shoulders as the boy steps back, he tries to pull him up into the air by his collar. Why? Well..Shingo knows the move, as several others already do. If he can get him up into the air...lets just say Shingo's getting a stomach pumping, whether he wants it or not.

It's that familiarity Shingo has with the move that assists him in buffering most of the damage from the blow to the gut. Having been attacked with it before he knows that he has nothing to fear really from the grab to his collar. The real threat is from HeavyD's fist. So leaving the man to grab him all he wants, Shingo drops his arms in an 'X' shape over his stomach to meet the punch. Once that's taken care of he changes his hand placement to come up to the boxer's own collar. Holding on tightly, Shingo brings both of his legs up quickly at the same time. Hopefully the rapidity of the movement pulls HeavyD far off balance enough for the boy to fall backwards while still holding onto his opponent. The moment his back touches the ground of the courtyard his legs snap violently upward to send HeavyD flying. Which would also be in the direction of the camera crew that mysteriously appeared out of nowhere to record the fight for tournament records.

Alas, D! ends up launched before he has a chance to stop the toss back. Flying toward the camera crew, D!'s eyes widen, but manages to curl up just enough to avoid breaking anything, either on himself or on the equipment. Groaning upon hitting the turf, he looks back at Shingo and grunts a little in his direction. Pulling himself out of the camera crew mob, he makes his way back toward Shingo. Once he's near enough to actually do anything, he slips back into his guard, arms held high as he shuffles his way. Circling around the student, he waits for his moment, before he snaps out a hard, high punch toward Shingo's chin.

The thing about a fight is that when you start moving, so is your opponent. Anyone who thinks that the person they're fighting is going to stand around and do nothing while you adjust the distance according to strategy in order to maximise your chance of scoring a hit is seriously delusional. Seriously. As such, when HeavyD starts moving forward at Shingo, the boy does the same to him. Prepared as much as he can for anything the boxer can throw at him. This serves him well as the punch is thrown. Seemingly with ease, Shingo uses his left hand to block the chin-punch with a catch and then using the momentum left from it to nudge it to the side. His left hand still holding onto D's wrist, the boy steps in deep and swings his right arm up to D's collar again. Suddenly with a sharp twist, Shingo is now facing the same direction as the American. Only for a brief instant though as HeavyD would find himself being lifted off the ground, over Shingo's shoulder, and then laying flat on his back. "Teya!" That's the plan anyways.

Ok, that sucked. Swung harshly over Shingo's shoulder, the boxer ends up dropped flat on his back, air leaving his lungs with a harsh impact. "OOoph!!" Back arching as the boxer strains and reacts to being slammed into the ground like so, he finally rolls over onto his stomach, one hand moving to his spine. "Damn..." he mutters, slowly getting to his feet again. Realizing he needs some room, he quickly snaps up his other arm, fist clenched as it rises into the air. As it snaps up, an explosive force of chi scatters out from his arm, threatening to blow Shingo back if he's not careful.

Ah, right. D! can do that as well, can't he? That is use his chi in such a way to make it an offensive burst of energy. Suppose that's one way someone can see how good of a boxer that he is. How often do you see boxers throwing chi around, after all? Though that might be because in a boxing match it is fully expected for the boxers to, umm, actually box. As opposed to a street fight where it's basically anything goes. Shingo highly doubts that in a professional boxing tournament HeavyD would use his projectile. But this is no boxing match. The boy is caught in a mid-dive out of the way "Oof!" and sent to the floor where he rolls back up to his fighting stance and grins.

If his opponent wants space to move then that's exactly what Shingo should /not/ give him. This is where being a rushing offensive type of fighter comes in handy. He sprints forward the close in to his intended target with a short jump. Now everyone knows that Kusanagi-ryuu involves mostly physical strikes. Then why is Shingo grabbing for HeavyD's wrist to twist it and him back to the floor? Simple. It's because the younger fighter is also friends with the champion judoka, Goro Daimon, as well as a few other grapplers. He's bound to pick up a few tricks. "Ya!"

This time, D! is ready to take a throw. He better, after being battered about like he has been. In any case, as Shingo grabs for his wrist after dealing with his Blast upper, the boxer is able to wrench himself free before he's fully twisted. He manages to flip over still, but he's able to get into a quick roll to keep from being dropped down stiffly. Hoping his quick trick is good enough to catch Shingo off guard, the boxer aims a hard hook, his left fist driving to hit right under the boy's ribcage.

A good strategy. There's only one flaw really with it. Well, it's not a flaw really. More like an oversight. Or just plain, good fashion luck on the other side. HeavyD's attack is on perfect target for Shingo's ribs. Like, totally perfect. Dead on. So why is the boy not wincing from pain in his side? Two words: Tsuki Hiji. "Elbow Drop!" Yep. It's that annoying technique previously mentioned. It comes hammering down on HeavyD's shoulder literally a microsecond before the boxer's punch hits and dropping him to the floor. All that the man can clearly see besides the ground is Shingo's feet hopping away from him to give him space to get up and space for Shingo to prepare himself for the next assault.

Ok...that pretty much sucked too. Taken down with that countering elbow dropped, D! finds himself hammered right into the ground with a painful start. "GNHH..." Grunting painedly, the boxer looks up, struggling to get to his feet. Geez...what's with that move? In any case, realizing that he's doing himself no favors with slow punches, D! decides to take a chance, considernig how close he is to Shingo. Reeling his arm back, the boxer quickly gets up to his feet, upright enough that when his fist snaps out, he can aim it downward, in hopes of driving it into Shingo's shoulder and give the boy a little medicine of his own.

Rock Crush is such an aptly named move. Shingo is no rock but at times he comes awfully close to being one. Getting pummeled by HeavyD's downward smash through his guard would be one of those times. His knees buckle under the pressure of the pounding fist adding on to his own body weight and he hits the ground just like D! did before him. "Ung!" Shingo grunts in pain. Yep, fighting HeavyD is always 'fun'. He thinks that he really needs to learn how to avoid those powerful punches that keep hitting him. Eventually! Maybe. Hopefully.

From the ground Shingo charges forward at the still standing HeavyD. His arms reaching to wrap around the man's legs behind the knees and pulling inward while he drives his shoulder into the thighs in hopes of not only pulling HeavyD's support out from under him but sending him tumbling backwards as well! That's it really. Because then he opts to use the opportunity to stand back up.

Rather than outright block the attack, D! seems to let himself get taken in by the toss. Tackled from behind and pulled backwards, the boxer ends up flipping end over end over Shingo, falling to the ground with a great painful start. "OOF!" It hurts...but still, he seems to not be too bad off about it. Why? Because maybe he just used the chance to get behind Shingo. Still flat on the ground, on his stomach, the Boxer pulls his right fist up, a slight glow about it as it drives into the ground with a thunderous slam. Shingo might want to worry about that explosive font of chi bursting up behind him...

HeavyD           1/-======/=======|=======\====---\1           Shingo

Explosion? What explosion? *TWOOM* Oh, /that/ explosion. The one that totally catches Shingo off-guard. This has to do because he figured he'd take a risk and do one of those fancy rolling out of the way things he's seen other fighters perform. The agile, quicker fighters. Silly Shingo, dodging is for everyone but you. Unless fighting Dan. Then he can dodge Gadoukens for days. He's hurled up and high into the air where he floats for a second. Yeah, that's how hard he was hit and how suprised he got.

The real surprise is yet to come though! For that brief instant that Shingo is 'flying' kinda-sorta, he devises a most excellent plan. This plan, see? Involves him taking total advantage of his slight levity, if you will, to contort his body into a mid-air roll as he starts to descend. "Burning..." The cameras bounce back and forth from Shingo in the air to HeavyD on the ground. They don't want to miss any second of it! Gravity speeds Mini-Kyo up, causing him to rotate faster and faster. So fast that from the boy's perspective he almost loses sense of what is up and what is down. "Shingooooooooo..." Almost. Whether his fighter's instinct, gut feeling, or through a sixth sense he automatically swings out his leg in an almost deadly arc at HeavyD's head. Not really deadly since D! is a tough guy. He can take it. Were this one of his little school friends, however? Red paste all over the floor and camera crew. "KICKUUUUUUU!" The rarely seen and experienced Burning Shingo Kick. HeavyD knows he wants to get hit by it. Just to see what it feels like.

SCORE! Yeah, that's exactly how D! planned that...which is a small miracle. Since when do gambits like that ever go off without a hitch? In any case, as Shingo flies off from the explosive Soul Flower, D! takes the time to finally get back up to his feet. Which is good, since Shingo is a lot quicker to recover from the boom than he thought. THankfully, D!'s able to get his guard up in time to stop the Burning Shingo Kick. SUre, he's going to have the indentation of the toe of Shingo's shoe in his forearm for a good day or two...but he stopped it before it smashed his head in instead. "NGhh..." Now...it's D!'s turn to be burning. "Nice...but don't get cocky," he warns, Shingo, his right fist starting to glow a little. Reeling his arm back, he seems to level it Shingo's way. Could this be the Magnum!

Yes it is!...but not the one you thought. For sometimes, when you watch one hand, you lose track of what the other is doing. ANd if Shingo watches the glowing right fist...he may miss the glowing left one, the one glowing a LOT brighter. Clenching both fists, D! readies himself to step forward...and forward he goes. Except when he steps forth on his left foot, the right arm doesn't snap out. Instead, the left fist goes up, as if he went for a body blow. The only difference? The explosive, magnum-force of chi that erupts toward Shingo's gut.

Oh my how the tables have turned! Truly a surprise for all. The funny thing is that Shingo wasn't focused specifically on one glowing hand. He was doing his best to focus on both fists at the same time. Which is probably just as a bad idea as it would've been to pay attention only to one. He had his block ready and everything for the Magnum attack. It was within his grasp. And then past his guard and in his gut. Painfully. Shocking the heck out of the boy. He didn't think it would go down like that. And he's not going to let it end like this! Always one to fight to the bitter end. Or else he wouldn't feel good about himself.

It takes the last bit of fighting enegy and effort in his body to not go flying backwards from the force of the impact. Clenched teeth and everything. Even digging his toes into the ground. A seemingly futile attempt given that he's wearing sneakers. He's not ready to end his winning streak just yet with a loss-loss. DKO or bust! The question is not whether or not he can pull it off but how is he going to pull it off. With an old friend, of course. The two skid marks are formed from where he got pushed back fighting against the force of D. Magnum are still smoking. He's going to need to get new shoes again. Shingo pushes himself forward and lunges to get a hold of an extended arm on the boxer to snap around and pound the man into the floor with another over shoulder throw. "TEYA!"

Wow. For a feint that was kind of thought up out of the blue, that worked amazingly well. Even the boxer who implemented it is kind of shocked when SHingo seems to take it right to the gut. Even more shocking, Shingo doesn't fall from the blast. "Damn," he mutters, at both events. Of course, he can't stand shocked for too long, as Shingo rushes in to try and pull at that extended left arm and swing him down with a hard shoulder throw. THankfully, D!'s ready for the throw more than he was before. The hard pull does indeed lift him over...but he's able to wriggle free with a slight wrenching of his arm, landing on his feet, however awkwardly, rather than his back. "Nghh..." Pulling his arm away, he brings a hand to his shoulder, cradling the wrenched arm and hoping that was the last gasp. OTherwise, he's kind of in trouble.

Yeah, that's it from Shingo. Stick a fork in him because he is done. "Darn," he utters when the throwing technique doesn't go off without a hitch as he hoped but it's no big deal. Stuff like this happens all the time. Shingo pants heavily and grins back at his opponent with a light laugh as he bends over to brace himself with hands on knees, head tilted to look over to HeavyD. "Haaa. Haaa. Haaa, man. That was a tough fight!" Grinning, he takes in a few gulps of air and straightens up. "Looks like I still need more practice, eh?" A hand goes inside his blue shirt that is sometimes confused for a jacket and fishes around for something. That something soon revealed as a shiny metal. "Here you go, Mister D. This is yours!" He loses a fight and a medal and he still smiles like a fool. Can nothing bring him down?

HeavyD watching Shingo slumps over his knees. While he's still standing...it seems like he's finished. The boy's conceding remarks only verify that impression. Knowing that he doesn't have to worry about a second attack, the boxer slumps forward himself. "Ngh...yeah...guess I finally....won one, didn't I?" he says. Looking at the medal that Shingo extends toward him, D! reaches out, taking it in hand and looking it over. "...thanks. This makes 6, I think for me." Hey, if a guy can take a loss like that and smile, he's cool in D!'s book.
