Description: Fighting Charlie's not some walk through the park, even if that's how this fight started. See what happens when you let Kobun describe your fights? (Winner: Shingo)
It's been some time since the various schools scattered about Southtown have released their students for the day. The fact that it is mid-evening may have something to do with it. This may also explain why the park next to one of the more popular highschools, Seijyun Girls Academy, is more or less vacant save for the stray jogger, dog-walker, and of course, fighter. It's a relatively cool night due to the current season of autumn. It could be a lot cooler though, if a breeze were to blow through. As it stands, the evening air is pretty still.
As anyone can attest whenever they see the teenaged Kusanagi-ryuu fighter in the park, Shingo is out doing his training thing. That is to say, jogging along one of the winding paths of the park in his best interest of staying fit and in tip top fighting shape. That and he has a lot of free energy to expel so usually finds ways to keep himself occupied and get rid of that excess. Dressed in his typical garb that he is known for, the only real change is something that he put in effect over the past week. A lone medal adorning the left breast of his shirt that is more often than not confused for a jacket.
The Park... well, it's not the boardwalk, at least. Charlie is here of an evening to think, to relax, to just wander some. Not that he necessarily has anything big on his mind, but running a vigilante group can be kind of tiresome at times. Fortunately Chun is just as able to command the men, and there's nothing terribly pressing on, except this medal tourney business. Which is, if Charlie isn't mistaken, over soon--perhaps sooner for him than most, having lost three straight times. At least none of the fights were total blowouts.
Charlie pauses, seeing the young Kusanagi-style student doing his thing, and his sharp eyes don't miss that medal; his own is prominently displayed where military accolades and such would be displayed, over his left breast, and it catches the light as he turns to watch.
In an instance like this Shingo would normally nod in passing to the man and offer a pleasant 'Good evening!' as he continued jogging by. However, the situation here is slightly different. How? Well mostly because the light reflecting off of Charlie's medal catches Shingo's own eyes, which may or may not be as sharp as a vigilante leader who wears glasses. The boy reflexively looks over in Charlie's direction and thinks about this very carefully. "Good evening!" He greets the Army veteran. "You must be a fighter, huh?" Shingo then asks inclining his head towards the medal on Charlie's shirt as if that already gave him the answer he needed. Which, if you think about it, really does. Sort of.
Charlie just utters a short laugh. "Yeah, I can fight," he replies, straightening his vest with a quick tug on the lapels. "I see you've got one of these too," he says, pointing to the medal on his chest. "If it wouldn't be interrupting your training session there, care to wager it?" He'll make the challenge before Shingo will; he's seen bits of that fighting style before and the memory of his fight against Saishu is still fresh. But hopefully this boy won't be flamethrowering him.
Or will he?! Ok. Quit laughing now. Yes it's Shingo and everyone knows that he is as inclined to starting fires as much as a grue is inclined not to eat someone wandering around in the dark. But really, is that the issue at hand here? Nope. It's all about these medal things and beating each other up for them. Or as Shingo might be tempted to say 'Gotta fight 'em all!' but he won't. And Charlie does totally beat him to the punch of issuing forth the challenge. Shingo grins widely at this. "Heh heh. Sure thing, mister!" The boy can't help but shake the feeling that he has seen this blond haired fighter before in some videos and what not. Just that it's been a while so doesn't quite remember.
Charlie is hurt! Or he would be, if he cared about 'fame' and all that. Good show, though. Charlie grins, "That's the spirit!" he exclaims, and he moves off the concrete path, into the grass, raising one arm up, and... beckoning to Shingo. "Come on, then," he grins, good-naturedly, as he takes up his stance, arms up like a boxer, but his legs and feet moving fluidly... naturally Kanzaki Team Alpha(tm) is scurrying around, getting the cameras set up, a man with a clipboard in a ninja outfit visible (well, ok his clipboard is visible), doing the directing...

So wait. His ninja outfit /isn't/ visible? Does that mean that said clipboard man is running around virtually in his underwear? Shudder. Shingo would rather not think about it before getting into a fight. Even if it hasn't been mentioned nor will it or should it ever be. As Charlie gets into his fighting stance, Shingo does the same after taking a step back to give each other some room for movement. It would be kind of rude and impolite to start swinging when one is all up in the man's face. Not that it matters since Shingo doesn't hold the stance for long after being beckoned by Charlie to come at him. Something Shingo is more than welcomed to do. Right after he gives a thumbs-up, "Good luck, mister!"
Then with little warning other than the movement of his body going through the motions of twisting his body in an arc at Charlie and swinging out his leg in a manner that wrestlers and wrestling fans may know as an enzuigiri right to the side of the vigilante's head. "SHINGO KIIIIIICKU!" Ah, the famous and infamous Shingo Kick. Scourge of many, mild threat at best to others. Which one will it be to Charlie tonight? Let's wait and see...

Perhaps mild threat; at the least the loud yell gives Charlie some indication that Shingo's incoming. With... a kick, apparently. And it's not a bad one, really, though Charlie elects, as is his wont, to catch it on his forearm, rather than the side of his head. It's healthier that way; taking kicks to the head is usually a last resort for the man. He removes his spectacles, tucking them away even as he's swinging his body into a responding kick, leaning back slightly from the rebounding Shingo and flicking a high, quick snap kick at the boy's shoulder.

Obviously Charlie hasn't heard about the benefits of taking a Shingo Kick to the head. The most notable of which is that of a sleeping aid. Assisting though who are unable to drift off into unconsciousness or just don't want to achieve that level of sleep that the body needs for rest and recooperation. And if he won't take Shingo's word for it then he'll just have to take a dose himself. Maybe later though. For now the boy has a retaliatory kick to deal with coming from the older man. The kick knocked aside by Shingo swinging his arm around and out in a hard blocking motion on the side that Charlie was aiming to strike. At the same time he steps in with his other leg and throws a strong haymaker straight to his opponent's torso. Which he probably shouldn't have done, ah well. Live and learn. "Teya!"

Charlie is still rebounding off of Shingo's block, when the punch comes in--and it's a good strike, taking Charlie right in the stomach. He releases a sharp breath, cushioning the blow slightly, but it still hits and harder than Charlie expects. "Good punch, kid," he breathes, even as he replies--physically--taking advantage of the in-close nature of Shingo's positioning to attempt a quick grab of the boy's blue shirt. And if he gets a good hold of him, he'll introduce Shingo to his knee, several times, before kicking him away. If.

Shingo may not have the hand-to-hand combat military training that Charlie has gotten from all his years of service but he's still what some may consider a close combat expert. He would have to be in order to make it this far as a fighter at his age with a style that he currently is unable to fully master due to lacking the bloodline ability to summon flames from his fingertips. Something he plans on rectifying soon enough. How exactly he hasn't figured it out yet, but he knows that he will. In the meantime, he will have to settle for performing such feats of skill such has forcibly breaking Charlie's grip on his shirt by smacking one of the man's hands away with a downward elbow strike and then sending him a short distance away with a straight thrust kick from nowhere to the gut. "GECCHU!" Ok, so the kick didn't really come from nowhere. But that's how fast it came out. Chances are his little tactic didn't do much to Charlie, but hey, a little is better than nothing.
Charlie is kicked back; surprising, but not devastating in the least. Though he did feel the kick. Better than he expected, for sure; some of that Kusanagi training coming through, perhaps? In any case, Charlie is back with a vengeance shortly thereafter, though approaching with more caution, peppering Shingo with a series of quick one-two jabs from the left hand, right kept up for any defensive needs.

And what a vengence it is. Shingo won't deny that Charlie has quick attacks, must be due to his greater experience as a fighter, but for some reason or the other the one-two combination from the military man is not only quick but also deceptively so. Not something that works out in Shingo's favour at all. It shows too when the double left handed jab connects squarely with his jaw and sends him staggering backwards, almost falling in the process. Actually, he does fall but manages to catch himself before really hitting the ground. The hit having him blink a few times. "Ouch!"
Shingo rubs his jaw for a split-second to help relieve the pain. Though last time he checked he didn't possess any healing ability that some of his friends are known to have. Looks like he'll have to grin through the pain. Now that's something he's a master at. "Wow, talk about a great hit, mister!" Shingo compliments the man. "Now! Stand back for my Flaming Phoenix Forger!" The flameless Kusanagi-ryuu fighter moves forward with a burst of speed, faster than he usually moves anyways, and homes in straight on Charlie's location. He's nowhere as fast as a surface-to-surface missile, but he hopes that his inevitable shoulder ram to the sternum will hurt the other fighter just the same.

Shingo really should just stop saying 'get ready for' and stuff like that--it gives Charlie the time he needs to know that Shingo is about to attempt to lay the hurt. So Charlie sets himself, feet spread a little wider, knees bent--and when Shingo comes in like that missile Charlie's ready for it, meeting him with forearms, and actually fading with the blow to further soften it, taking a step back. And that step back, plus another two, brings him back away from Shingo, Charlie narrowing his eyes a little, studying the young man's movements, probing for weak spots or openings...

Maybe he should. But where's the fun in that? Sure whenever he gets into a fight he's all about doing his best and not holding back for victory. But he's really all about enjoying himself and making friends. Winning is just a secondary pursuit. Sometimes even a pleasant side-benefit. Plus, how can you have a technique named Flaming Phoenix Forger and /not/ shout out the name when you perform it? Come on. It's hard to resist. No matter. Shingo feels Charlie absorb the impact relatively harmlessly and then backing away. He's obviously up to something. This means that Shingo will now have to keep the pressure on him to prevent any plan that he may come up with! Or at least do his best to foil it. This is accomplished by jumping in at Charlie with a powerful jumpkick. When that hits, he lands and then sweeps his foot in, up, around, and out to strike Charlie in the head. After that, the same foot is planted firmly on the ground as he steps in with an axekick that somehow hits twice. Going up and coming down, one would wager. Shingo shouting out battle cries with eaxh execution.

Charlie 0/-------/--=====|-------\-------\0 Shingo
Three hits, no waiting; Charlie doesn't even say a word, but takes the hits; perhaps it's the failing light, or there might be some other cause for Charlie's inattentiveness. The three hits take the man down, and he rolls across the grass, looking winded, as he hops to his feet; but still ready to fight, the fire lit in his eyes. He reaches up, wiping the corner of his mouth with the back of a hand, and merely sets himself to receive another possible charge from the young boy.
There's nothing 'possible' about another charge from Shingo. It's a given. So far he has managed to take and maintain a lead in this fight against the leader of the Vigilante force and intends to keep on doing so with his amazingly effective pressure tactics of not letting up on Charlie at all. So after his kick combo, which is technically four hits, knocks Charlie down the boy presses the advantage and is there ready for the man when he stands back up. Hopefully right into Shingo's awaiting outward elbow strike that lifts him off the ground followed by a rising shoulder tackle and another elbow hit, this one coming in, from the boy. "Bishu! Bashu! Dokaan!" The three hit aerial combo moving rather quickly for something that looks so complex.

*crunch* *crunch* *crunch* Again, several hits land on the military man; elbow, shoulder, elbow. But they don't send him flying; even as he's falling he's flipping around, despite the pain radiating through his body, to land in a crouch in front of Shingo, summoning up one last burst of energy in order to hurl his body upwards in a reverse somersaulting kick, his trailing leg slashing up through the air, the night momentarily lit by a blazing arc of white chi; twice more comes the somersaulting kick, Charlie turning in midair, after the peak, to land on the ground, momentarily on one knee.

Well. The tables had to be turned around on him sooner or later given the skill level of his opponent. Shingo knew that it was a combination of skill and luck that had him get as far as he did against Charlie. If only he could've maintained that degree of consistency for just a bit longer then he might've gotten out of this fight virtually unscathed. It's not meant to be however and despite his best attempts to protect himself from the large burst of crescent-shaped energy crackling towards him, it's all in vain. The edge of Charlie's Somersault Justice striking him in the centre of his body and lifting him back up into the air before he succumbs to gravity and hits the floor. Talk about your pain. Shingo groans, grunts, and grimaces. The wind knocked out of him? More like the atmosphere. If that makes any sense. After all this, he gets back up on his feet. Shakily. This is it. It ends here. One way or the other this match is over.
Taking in one large deep breath, Shingo makes out a grin through all the pain he feels coursing throughout his body at the moment. "Man. That really really hurt, mister. You're one awesome fighter." The boy has to be impressed. Charlie has taken so many hits from him that would make lesser fighters crumple. And then he just hit Shingo like twice and the boy is already feeling it. "No matter what, this was a great match!" A firm thumbs-up is held out to the man and the Taiyo schoolboy gets back into his stance. A split-second later he surges forward with another shoulder ram that Charlie blocked before. Perhaps this time he'll be inclined to enjoy the full experience. No shout out this time. He wants to save his energy. Let's see how it works out for him without the battle cry.

Panting for breath, Charlie is at least heartened to hear Shingo say that it was a great fight--Charlie might disagree here or there but it's certainly been eye-opening. Also eye-opening is the sound of Shingo pounding the ground to head for him; still on one knee, he has a moment to decide and decides to dive past the attack, pushing his strained, injured body up afterwards; he grabs for Shingo's back, hoping to wrench him over-shoulder and throw him to the ground, simple but effective--if it hits.

Charlie is quick enough to get past the Kake Hourin of Shingo, but not nearly quick enough to pull off his last ditch effort at squeaking a clean victory. There's a slight frown on Shingo's face when he realises that his tackle is meeting nothing but air and he emits a low but audible, "Darn," when Charlie rolls past him. Could it be all over for the boy? Not yet! The touch of Charlie's fingers curling and pulling the back of his shirt causes Shingo to react as quickly as possible. There's no room for any fancy manouevering so he has to work with what he's got. He spins sharply around with a backwards elbow strike to Charlie's right temple with as much force as he can muster and send the older man reeling away from him and hopefully down for the count. Metaphorically if not literally.

Ok, so the last effort failed. That's okay. Charlie isn't out, that's for sure; but he raises a hand, the hit having scored, and starts laughing. "Not bad, kid, not bad. In fact, I'd say you're pretty damn good. Here," he says, tugging the medal off and tossing it over to Shingo, "You earned it." His laughter dies to a chuckle and he points at Shingo, "Better take good care of it, that was my last one." So Shingo gets to eliminate Charlie from the medal tourney--not that the blond man seems too worried about it. The medal turned over, Charlie puts his hands behind his head and walks away, whistling--ok, limping a little. He'll rest up soon, and fighters are known for recovering from most harm relatively quickly.
