Medal Tournament - Shingo vs Karin

Description: Shingo and Karin get together to help kick off the medal tournament. Instead they just kick off each other a lot. (Draw Match)

Shingo stands a little ways in of the alleyway in between the many buildings of the downtown district and glances up at the red sky as the sun begins to dip below the horizon. The yellow star already invisible behind all the tall skyscrapers of Southtown. The boy then brings his gaze back down to earth at the blonde young woman standing across from him. "How cool is that? My first match for this medal tournament is with the organizer herself! Awesome!" Shingo grins widely and goofily at the heiress and holds out a fist towards her, "I'll make sure and do my best!" And he's totally not doing that just for the performance in front of all the cameras hovering about recording every action taken and every word spoken. Damn paparazzi. Oh wait, they're just here for posterity.

Surprised at getting contacted out of the blue for this sort of thing, Karin looks like she came here in a hurry, handing off her coat and a laptop case to the ubiquitous Shibazaki, who takes them and retreats into the shadows what bore him. Flexing her fingers, Karin grins at Shingo. "I had initially thought it might be improper for the sponsor to fight in the tournament," she explains, brushing blonde locks over her shoulder and prepping with a couple stretches. She really DID just run here from the Pao Pao Cafe, though Shingo probably has no way of knowing this. "Then the likes of Ryu and Saishu Kusanagi decided to sign up. Since a cronyist win scenario evaporated with that, I assumed it was safe."

Grin. "Yeah, I can't wait to have a match with Otou-san too. It's been a while since I fought him or Kusanagi-san. But it looks like Kusanagi-san was too busy to sign up for this tournament." Shingo shrugs. Oh well. He'll be fine. A gust of wind blows through the alley scattering loose pieces of trash about. Essentially just a few pages from someone's torn notebook that they threw out. Incidentally it also carries Shingo's untucked uniform shirt/jacket. Or it would if he wasn't wearing it. The fabric blowing towards Karin's direction instead of the other way. Which would've probably looked a lot cooler.

"So, how do we start things off like? Like any other fight?" He just wants to be sure and that they're both on the same page and that there isn't some sort of secret ritual he has to invoke first. Like saying let's bet all of our medals right here, right now. Winner take all. As he waits for a response he idly gives his fingers a quick flex inside the blue fingerless gloves he's wearing and makes sure his phone is securely tucked away.

Chuckling, Karin falls into stance. "Nothing particular. We'll call you the challenger, for bookkeeping's sake, though that doesn't matter much. The whole idea is that the event is rather freeform, within the bounds of the rules." Flexing her fingers, the blonde looks Shingo over. It's been a last time since they fought, and though she hasn't discussed it overmuch, she's felt uneasy about the fluke win. So perhaps this will be as good a time as any to prove herself right or wrong... though about what, only she knows.

"As long as you're ready, then yes." Planting her left foot, the blonde dashes forward with fairly considerable speed, hoping to get inside Shingo's guard, though she isn't trying to suckerpunch him; she waits until he's at least paying attention. And then she simply goes for the good old tomoe nage, intending to hurl Shingo with a nice shoulder throw to get things started off. "We start it the old fashioned way!"

Meanwhile, out in the street, cops and Kanzuki employees are busy redirecting traffic. Why? Because if Karin connects, that's where Shingo's headed. Might as well give the crowd something to watch, right?

The crowd nothing. Shingo won't be having any of that! Not even for the sake of entertainment. He's such a spoil-sport isn't he? Now it's not like his fault or anything that he doesn't want to be thrown out into the streets. They're sort of dirty and his clothes are nice and clean. Though how long that's going to last is up for debate. For the moment it's going to remain that way. Mostly due to as Karin grabs his shirt lapelle there's a familiar outcry of, "GECCHU!" What else could this mean other than Shingo using one of his arms to crash his elbow into Karin's shoulder of her strong arm in order to make sure she doesn't a good grip on him and then firing off one swift and powerful thrust kick to her midsection. If there's anyone that's going to go flying out into the crowd's view it's going to be the schoolgirl. Sure Shingo falls over but he's up and dashing out into the streets behind Karin soon enough.

That hurt. Quite a bit, actually; Karin's already looking winded. For the five seconds that she's visible, anyway. She goes flying into the street, toward a parked car. Righting herself in midair, she aims both feet at the car and then literally just pinballs off it, launching herself back at Shingo with both arms crossed in front of her, almost like Alex's maneuver of a similar shape. However, once she gets close she actually spreads her arms wide, intending to simply smack Shingo in the face with the spreading of her fists, then use those fists to catch the ground and vault back to standing position. Nice and acrobatic, only it'll get countered.

Or will it?! Actually, no it won't. In order for it to get countered it would require Shingo needing to get into a defensive position. Now while this may not be quite a task for other fighters it's kind of difficult for Shingo to accomplish when he's charging out of the alley after Karin. Whom is apparently charging right back at him with some sort of reverse flying clothesline. Who knows really. All he's thinking about is getting out of the way. Which is done. Almost. Barely. Not really. The boy's eyes widen at the flying Kanzuki and he thinks fast to duck under the opening fists. Just not fast enough and is tapped on the side of his head as she goes flying by as he dives to the side into a roll. Coming up on his feet the same time Karin executes her acrobatics, Shingo grins at her and pushes off.
"SHINGO KIIIIICKU!" Raising into the air and at Karin he extends a leg out and brings it in a scary arc down towards her shoulder. Same shoulder he hit earlier? Possibly. All depends on how Karin decides to deal with this threat and how she moves her body.

Predictability is the death of innovation, son. She might not be much on the offense this fight, but Karin's a wonder on the acrobatics. As she lands off her triple lindy (tm, Rodney Dangerfield) the blonde catches herself with both hands as planned, and... doesn't turn around. Why? Because she knew the Shingo Kick was coming, that's why.

So instead of turning around and blocking, she simply ducks, watching Shingo sail overhead, and then springs back up, catching the wall with her left foot and hand and springing around, attempting to snap an arcing, low hop axe kick right into Shingo's shoulder. Very wire-fu.

Impressive. Way more impressive than Shingo just standing there and steadying his body to take the kick on his shoulder totally on purpose. A grin alighting on his face as he clenches his hands tighter in anticipation of the attack and widens his stance to increase his chances of not getting knocked off-balance even just a bit. That and possibly put him in a better position to capitalize on any opening in Karin's defense. "Oof!" Shingo exhales when the leg strikes him.

And then reaches out to grab her leg before she can pull it back in. Why? So he can spin her round and round like a record. Right round, round. It's a mini-version of a giant swing and he only lets go when he feels like it without even considering where she's going to land. Which he probably should've. "Teya!" Something to think about for next time really.

COMBATSYS: Karin blocks Shingo's Medium Throw.

Well, it sort of works. And sort of doesn't. The swing does start, but all the damage Shingo does is really bruise her ankle and make her a tiny bit dizzy; after the first spin Karin catches a nearby fire escape and twists out of Shingo's grip. Lucky for her, too, since otherwise that would have hurt a hell of a lot. Of course, now she's hanging on to a fire escape. Is this Karin's night to play Jet Li, or what?

There's only a split second to consider her options, so the blonde comes to a snap decision and just... lets go, intending to drop onto Shingo knees first, slamming into him and then snagging his shoulders and inverting positions, driving him into the ground with a powerful throw. A risky move, to be sure, but what the hey. A little Sophitia never hurt anybody.

Let's hear it for flashy pain! The crowd is sure loving it as cheers erupt from them when the blonde girl pummels the hapless lad into the concrete with some loud and very agonizing sound effects to follow. Painful to look at? Heck, for some it's bad enough that they're hearing bodies impact against pavement in such ways. Thank goodness for fighter durability or else there would be more of a red paste on the ground than there is right now. It's a wonder why Shingo doesn't bleed more from the face than he does right now. He's a tough kid, that's all. Maybe he'll learn not to dodge now.

Shingo rolls to the side a few times to give himself some room and springs up, wiping away any excess blood that may still be on his visage. Got to look clean for the cameras. Next? It's back to the fight. Let's see if his brand new technique he devised against Hokutomaru will serve him just as well here! "SHINGO SLIDAAAAA!" Basically it's Shingo rushing in at Karin at full speed and then throwing out his legs from underneath him to go sliding across the ground at the young woman. His legs serving the purpose of kicking her feet out and dropping her hand on the ground from the impact to the shins!

Tony has connected.

Karin            0/-------/--=====|======-\-------\0           Shingo

Apparently Shingo Slider needs a little more work. Karin's been heavily into the acrobatics this fight, after all, so when Shingo comes in low, she goes high, handstanding and then vaulting over him. And she even has time to taunt on the way back down. "You must be joking," she says, grinning faintly as she rights herself on the other side of Shingo, getting into stance. "Wasn't 'Shingo Kick' enough?" Still, something in the young !Kyo's dedication to cheesy showmanship does please her, since after all, that's what is fueling the absurd pay-per-view fees Kanzuki Corporation is charging for this nonsense.

Getting back into the fight, Karin wastes no time, dashing forward and trying to catch Shingo before he has time to get back up, flipping him forward onto his back and then driving her elbow into his gut in a falling crush takedown that could actually be kinda painful if it connects. So she's gone from Jet Li, to Sophitia, to pro wrestling now. Perhaps next she'll whip out a lightsaber.

Not one to push his luck more than he has to. At least for this fight. Shingo opts for a slight change in tactics and decides that using Tsuki Hiji again this time would be a slightly bad idea. He'll know when it's time to use it again. Now is definitely not that time. Now? Now it's that legendary GO TIME! Yeah! Or however it goes. Karin moves faster than he does. That much is obvious and certain. So when she wants to grab him from behind and toss him flat on his back then it works. As for elbow dropping him in his prone position? No dice. Shingo gets his arms up to defend his body and grunts as he heaves Karin's elbow strike in the opposite direction away from him.

Time for him to seize back control of this fight. Or so he hopes. With a wide grin he says in reply to Karin's comment, "Hrm, maybe you're right!" He darts to the left and then launches himself at Karin once again. "SHINGO KIIIIIICKU!" Hopefully if he can mix up the high-low game enough that she'll eventually get confused and slip up somewhere. Because if she keeps this up, he'll definitely be losing a medal this evening.

It's a fast kick (though still not as fast as Geico, or whatever, I don't know). Fortunately, Karin has time to throw up a forearm and deflect it. Unfortunately, it still hurts like hell, so Shingo's fears of medal loss are probably unfounded... for all the hits she's avoided and dished out, she still looks in worse shape than he does. She even takes a second to shake out her arm and get back into stance as Shingo continues on with the kick.

Never mind the fact that she simply looks *tired*, too. Taking as quick a deep breath as she can, the blonde turns again to close the gap, flexing her fingers and then making an open palm strike to Shingo's sternum, hoping that will back him off for a bit. Dr. Tofu now? Perhaps luckily for Shingo, Karin has no real knowledge of dangerous shiatsu pressure points that will turn him into a frog or something.

Karin            1/-----==/=======|=======\-------\1           Shingo

Remember when he said that he'd know when would be the time to once more call upon the power of Tsuki Hiji? Yeah. That time is now. His chances from his point of view dictate that he would've probably been better off throwing an arm out to block the palm strike that has been known to smash open doors with little effort. But Shingo is one that lives for risks now and again that pan out in the end. Though he didn't want to risk her actually being able to turn him into a frog via pressure point manipulation. Of course that would probably prove that she was indeed a witch and needed to be burned at the stake. But that's neither here nor there.

"Hiji Otoshi!" Shingo's left hand finds Karin's wrist as it flies out towards his chest and holds on to deflect the attack. At the same time his feet begin to move and his body shifts out of the way so as to allow Karin, who still has her wrist held, to over-stretch and lose her balance forward and then sent into the floor by an elbow to the upper back region.

Risk or not, it paid off. Karin stumbles onward and then turns around, closing her eyes for a moment and then... stopping, and taking a deep breath. She looks not only exhausted, but damn beat up. It's just as likely Shingo's next hit will down her as anything else. Since he hits like a freight train and she, uh, doesn't.

In any event, there's a good long pause while she does the winded thing, and the actually appears to resign herself to something or other. Bracing herself like a football player, she does an interesting approximation of Roy Bromwell's Dynamite Justice, dashing forward shoulder style and then turning at the last moment, using the forward momentum to drive her palm outward, striking with such unbelievable force that debris around the point of impact actually rustles around from the aftershock. Provided it impacts anything other than thin air, anyway.

Alright. Shingo told himself that he wasn't going to make any attempt to evade attacks thrown by Karin anymore. Just block and toss out his counter-offensive when need be. A solid plan. Too bad he keeps straying from it in order to be cool and dodge. He just won't learn, will he? Silly Shingo. You are not meant to dodge. Deal with it. Live with it. The sooner he figures that out the sooner he'll become a better fighter. In the meantime he'll practice becoming better acquainted with the ground. His taller form sent tumbling back until it gets stopped thanks to the presence of a conveniently parked SUV. His back hitting it hard and leaving a nice dent. Uh, oops.

Getting up he has to take a couple deep breaths and shake his head to clear out the dizzyness. "Stay cool, Shingo." Some more liquid is wiped from his brow so as not to obscure his vision. Looks like he's going to have to pull something out of his bag of tricks soon. Karin may be tired and beaten but he's physically taken more blows this fight than she has. Only time will tell if this will make all the difference or not. What the boy knows will make a difference is if he can hit her with this next hit. In an attempt to catch her by surprise he sprints forward, shirt billowing behind him. Then? Then he suddenly leaps into a flying jump kick Bruce Lee style. He has to take care to not hit her in the head, but it's possible. He just has to kick her on the right or left side. Which may change depending on which side she dodges to escape. "WATAAAAAAH!" It even comes with it's own battle cry.

So, the kick connects. And what does Karin do? Go flying backward almost comically, landing with a really loud metallic *WHACK* against a dumpster. And then she slides to the ground and... doesn't move. For a very long while. Why? Because there's a very tiny thread keeping her conscious at the moment, and she just dangles on it for a good long while, not moving. After a protracted effort she manages to force herself standing, but her stance is ragged and she's pretty wobbly. Might as well finish it off.

Finish her?! Last time he checked this wasn't some form of mortal kombat and he didn't have a killer instinct. So why would he do something like beat her when she's down? Nah, he's a nice guy. Or is he?! Well yeah, he is. That doesn't mean he won't follow through on his offensive. She's on her feet and not still laying against the dumpster so it's all fair game. But attacking her while she was down is out of the question. He would've at least given her an opportunity to get up if she couldn't. Not that he has to concern himself with that now. Shingo leaps high into the air and comes down with an aerial punch to one of her shoulders. Nothing particularly hard. Just swift to maybe bring a conclusion?

The punch just never happens. In a truly anime-style moment, Karin snaps out a fist and just... catches it. In fact, she's still holding onto it when Shingo hits the ground, and the girl has a grip like a steel vise for someone so lightly built (and looking about to collapse). She certainly can't sense it, but perhaps Shingo can: chi. Not that she's actively using it, but that something in her -- probably rage -- built up so much that it's influencing the balance of energy in her body. Which is why the scream she lets out is so primal it might be a little unnerving for the audience... right before she delivers a palm strike, ostensibly like the Hou Shou in execution, right to Shingo's sternum. Rather unlike the Hou Shou, the force is enough to blow her hair back and send Shingo flying a... really, really long way. WAGE.

Right into that same SUV from before. Putting an even bigger dent into the passenger side door. Someone won't be happy when they see that. Especially since most insurance agencies don't cover 'some kid fighter repeatedly flew into my door' when they decide to pay out claims. Sucks to be that guy. Or Shingo. Depending on how you look at things. By all rights Shingo should be down for the count. What will it take for this kid to fall over? Seriously. Because there he goes, standing up again. Struggling, of course. But still. He's managed to get back up. Despite all the sore muscles and pain his body is feeling. He takes a deep breath. "Burning..."

Wherever Karin is on the battlefield that's where Shingo is headed. He's not running as fast as he was before mostly due to being tired, but it's still a lot better than most other people in his position. Once he closes in on the Kanzuki girl, stand back! There's a Shingo-hurricane coming through! Now all he needs is a sidekick. Pondering on that will come later. Pondering on where to hit Karin comes now. "SHINGOOOOOOO!" A straight forward punch at her left shoulder from his right hand opens the gates of pain. Opening the way for an uppercut to her collarbone region and then three more downward fists to her shoulder. And speaking of shoulders, that's exactly what Shingo uses to finish off his technique to slam into Karin. If all that hits anyways.

Wham. We'll skip the details explanation and simply say, Karin probably shouldn't have been standing in the first place, so when Shingo hits her with his strongest technique there's no surprises when she just... crumples, and then flies like a rag doll. In fact, she *literally* bounces off the ground and into the air... giving her one last chance to throw out a two-stage aerial kick at Shingo before hitting the ground with a loud thud. She doesn't get up again; Shingo will have to pry his medal off her jacket. Not that it'll be too hard to do so.
