Large Clearing
Though the forests blocking Southtown from the rest of Japan are dense,
there is a large clearing not far from the main north/south highway. Though
there is little of interest here, the clearing is big enough to accomodate a
large crowd, and for fewer people it affords a great deal of space. It is
relatively secluded, although the highway can be seen through the trees.
The clearing in the forest has been almost completely cordoned off, leaving
only a thin ring around the designated combat area for spectators and
members of the press; squeezed in like sardines to watch what is perhaps the
marquee match-up of the Tournament's first round; two King of Fighters
champions duking it out for the right to move on to the next round! The
grass here has been neatly trimmed and pruned in preparation for the
upcoming fight, there's even a painted-on Howard Enterprises logo smack dab
in the center of the makeshift "ring."
Of all the matches taking place, this is probably the most high profile --
Two King of Fighters champions? In Southtown, it's bound to be a hit.
Naturally, this has drawn more spectators than any of the other first round
fights... and Billy Kane is just soaking up the attention. Currently, he's
wading through the crowd, signing autographs and chatting it up with his
fans (and his detractors, and the people who just want to see some blood
spilled). "Hey, hey! Where is this guy, anyways? I hope 'lil Kusanagi didn't
run off scared, or anything!"
Kyo Kusanagi? Late. As usual. A good half an hour passes by the scheduled
fight time, with only Billy to entertain the crowd. The tourney organizers
throw a fit on their cell phones trying to find their other participant, but
to no avail. Sighing, one nebbish-looking official looks down at his
clipboard, "Well, I guess we have to call this a victory by def-huh?" his
train of thought is interrupted by a tap on the shoulder. When he turns his
head, Kyo is there, looking over the guy's shoulder, "Hey, whatcha got
there?" Kyo says, peering at the clipboard and the pencil just about to
check the WINNER box in Billy's direction. Fashionably late, as usual.
"Well, well!" His voice its usually high pitched screech, Kane pulls away
from the audience, walking out onto the ring. "I was starting to think you
wouldn't show, Kusanagi. But it's better this way -- I've been looking
forward to kicking your ass!" He seems very, very, confident about that.
Then again, Kane's confident about most things. Appearing mostly unarmed,
Billy simply rests his bare hands on his hips, actually wearing a visible
sweater underneath his jacket. In this weather? He's not crazy, contrary to
popular belief.
Even though he kept the crowd waiting, legions of fans of Kusanagi's cheer
in approval as he makes his appearance. "Hold that thought, pal..." Kyo says
to the assistant, batting away the pencil and then jumping over the cordon
into the fighting area, "For such a 'smart businessman' Geese really
shouldn't have paired his boyfriend up with me, if he wanted him to win the
tournament!" he says, reaching into his pants pocket and pulling out his
trademark headband. After putting on the accessory, he adjusts his gloves
then raises one flaming hand towards the sky, "You're gonna get burned!!" he
closes the hand while bringing it down, extinguishing his flame and dropping
into his kempo stance.
Billy reaches into his jacket, grabbing his three part staff and assembling
with one twist of his wrist. "Oh, yeah? Well, bring it on." He, himself,
allows a bit of flame to spray from the tips of his staff as he whirls it
around once. "Burning me's gonna be kinda hard -- I'm twice the fire user
you ever were. Not to mention, I'm not some smartass kid. Come on, let's get
this done way." Tucking his staff into the crook of his elbow, Billy seems
ready and willing to start the fight, pointing at Kyo with his free hand.
"Let's GO!"
Kyo rolls his eyes, snickering at Billy's tricks, "You mean that BIC lighter
you keep in your pocket? Trust me..." he says, breaking into a quick dash
towards his opponent, crimson flame pouring out from his right hand and
forming a trail behind him, "YOU DON'T HAVE FIRE LIKE I DO!" He nears Billy
and attacks with a flaming right hook!

So much for making this look good right from the beginning. As Kyo lunges
forward, Billy can't stop the arriving Aragami, even though he tries to
reverse the attack. Alas; his staff is brought to bear a few split-seconds
to early, and Billy takes the hit square in the jaw. Stumbling, but still on
his feet, Kane growls a little bit -- How his jaw hurts, his cheek is
bruised, and his face is a little burnt. Charming. "Heh, really getting into
nice and quick, huh? You'll have to hit harder than that if you ever wanna
put me down for the count, you little shit!"
Kyo doesn't let up; he knocks Billy right in the jaw with his flaming punch,
and as Billy keeps talking he takes another step, using the opposite hand to
try and grab the stick-twirler by the neck, "MOERO!"
COMBATSYS: Billy dodges Kyo's Koto Moon Positive.
This time, Kane takes a different approach. Rather than attempting to
turning this attack back around on his opponent, Billy simply dives out of
the freaking way. The most he sees Kyo coming in for a follow-up attack,
Billy lunges to the side, attempting to hit the ground in a tumble... so
that he can come up directly to Kyo's right. Having neatly avoided the blow,
Billy sweeps his staff in the Kusanagi heir's direction... before doing so
again, and again, and again, whirling it around like helicopter blades...
Hopefully striking his foe with each rotation, more than enough to put a
decent hurt on his opponent.

Kyo proves to be just as quick as his foe, neatly spinning around after his
missed grab attempt to block the first couple of staff revoltions with his
arms before backpedaling a step out of the way, a few red welts now on his
forearms, "Heh..." he spins again, trying to get fancy by kicking Billy's
own staff into him. Always a crowd-pleaser.

Billy finds himself playing a game he doesn't want to be playing -- he's on
the defensive. Even as Kyo comes after him with his foot, Kane's really only
able to shove his staff into his opponent's chest to shove him back. It
works, though. It probably doesn't hurt much, but at least it stopped the
attack. Clearly looking for a little bit of breathing room, Billy begins to
take a few steps backwards, tightening his grip on his weapon. None of the
usual quips or taunts from Billy, not tonight... He looks like he's in the
"zone", for once, so to speak.
Kyo is hit backwards by the staff, not really executing the "awesome move"
he was going for, "Lame..." he grumbles, "I'm going to make you eat that
little toothpick by the time we're done here! Here..." he steps backwards,
"Play with this!" one arm comes down in a slicing motion, creating an arc of
Kusanagi flame that colesces into a fireball that rockets across the ground
towards Billy.

Billy isn't going to be on the defensive anymore, that's for sure. Sprinting
forward, Billy actually runs right through the flame, despite being a little
scorched. "Weak!" Heading straight for Kyo, Billy strikes twice with his
staff, splitting it into all three sections as he whips at his opponent.
It's a pyrrhic victory, perhaps, but effective. The problem is that now,
he's right up close and personal, and that may not be the best place to be.
Kyo is geniunely surprised as Billy runs -through- his yami barai, can't say
he's seen that one before. He doesn't really get to appreciate the fact that
Billy got burned pretty badly because he gets whipped hard in the
midsection, sending him backward. He manages to flip around in mid-air to
land on his feet, still very close towards Billy, close enough to try and
grab his opponent so that he might harshly introduce Kane to the grass.

Kyo throws Billy dowm, then hits the "Kusanagi Elbow"! Know your role!
Grass, Billy Kane. Billy Kane, grass. Billy finds himself quickly deposited
on the ground by the throw, just a little bit miffed. Sucking in a lungful
of air to replace the amount that Kyo shoved out with his elbow, Billy acts
immediately -- He doesn't have much of an opportunity to delay. "Ugh... try
this on for size!" Tucking his knees into his chest, Billy drives both feet
up into Kyo's gut, hoping to knock the wind out of him, send him flying, AND
maybe bruise a rib, if he's lucky.
COMBATSYS: Kyo counters Strong Kick from Billy with Nue Tsumi.

..but what really happens, instead of bruised ribs and a crushing blow, is
that Kyo manages to intercept the kick by snatching at Billy's ankles and
then twisting, sending Billy's spinning face down into the ground in which
he has now become VERY good friends with, it seems! "SASERUKA!!"
This... is becoming embarassing. Picking himself up off the ground after
being roughly deposited there by Kyo, Billy has to spend a few moments to
wipe the blood of his lip. "... Tch... bullshit." He doesn't seem happy with
the results of this fight, so far. But that doesn't mean he's done yet.
Gripping his staff in both hands, Kane holds it out flat in front of him. "I
sure as hell ain't the best there ever was -- that's the boss -- but I'm not
losing to an arrogant little shit like you, not while I can still attack.
Let's finish this... Right now." Lunging at his opponent, Billy's new tactic
starts with a low staff sweep as he brings one end up directly beneath Kyo's
chin, hoping to lift him up in a leaping uppercut -- and considering how
much power puts into his staff upper, to the point where his entire body
lifts off the ground... well, it has to hurt, that's for sure, so long as it
manages to connect.
COMBATSYS: Kyo blocks Billy's Sen'en Sakkon.

Kyo manages to twist his body so that the staff catches him just under the
shoulder, staggering him backwards; almost a dislocated shoulder there even
though he defended himself. It could have been a lot worse though, like the
broken jaw Billy was aiming for. "You want it to end so soon? Tired of
getting slapped around? Hey, your wish is my command old-timer!" Kyo's body
tenses up and starts to flash, a ring of fire burning through the grass
around his feet as he focuses the fiery powers of his bloodline.
COMBATSYS: Kyo gathers his will.
Billy seems to have some sort of strategy in mind -- He's on an all-out
offensive, at least for the moment. Snatching his staff after hitting Kyo
with it, the bodyguard uses it like a polevault... except this time, he
means to go straight up. Muscles tense as he launches himself into the air,
spinning his staff wildly beneath him as he plummets back down towards Kyo.
It's an odd-looking technique, to say the least... but considering the odd
angle from which he descends, and the very unkind look of that whirling
staff, it might just be more effective than it seems.

Kyo is still charging up as Billy flies into attack him, his crimson flames
now driving up from his palms. He's totally switched strategies from
straight up bum rushing Billy to hanging back to gather up his energy. In
fact he can only be bothered the block Kane's attack with one foream, adding
to his collection of staff welts on his arms. Besides, he needs the other
arm free so he can try and give Billy a nice uppercut to the jaw before his
feet hit the ground!
COMBATSYS: Kyo successfully hits Billy with Medium Punch.

Billy takes a staggering step back as he gets uppercutted. No, this wasn't
working out at all. Putting some more distance between himself and Kyo,
Billy does something unusual for Billy -- Rather than getting pissed off or
tossing insults and taunts, he simply holes his staff forward, assuming a
surprisingly disciplined-looking combat stance, for Kane... and points the
end of the weapon right at Kyo. And then he simply remains, trying not to
look like he's on his last ropes, taking a quick breather.
COMBATSYS: Billy focuses on his next action.

Kyo smirks as Kane stands there, pointing at him. Kyo is positively glowing
red by now, his jacket and hair rustling from his fiery chi aura, "So... is
that end of your stick you want melted first? Heh..." he brings up one
gloved hand which bursts into flame, since Billy doesn't seem to mind just
standing there, he can afford to make his dramatic.
COMBATSYS: Kyo focuses on his next action.
Well, drama or no drama, Billy returns to being Billy after a moment. "Tch
-- How about a shut your mouth?!" So much for the tense confrontation. This
time, Billy simply holds his staff at his side and lunges at Kyo. Flipping
around as he lunges, Billy's cudgel seems to... well, the best way to
describe would be that it becomes many. With no plausible physical
explanation, Billy is now wielding a veritable forest of staffs. Twisting
around in mid-air, Billy brings the tremendous mass straight down on Kyo's
head, apparently looking to do as much damage as he can before Kyo pulls his
trump card.

*BOOM!* Billy hits the nail on the head. It's hard for the spectators to see
just how badly Kane hit Kyo, what with the veritible explosion of dust,
turf, and dirt that are kicked up as a result of the Dai Senpuu. For all
they know Kyo could be driven completely underground by the attack. A few
gasps go out, as Kyo Kusanagi looks to have been finished by the attack...
but then, the glow of crimson flame can be seen through the cloud of dust.
The intensity of the Kusanagi flames soon become such that it pushes the
debris and smoke away like a strong guyst, leaving Kyo standing there, blood
pouring down over his eye from a nasty looking wound on his head, if
anything he looks even more trashed than Billy. "Kuuuraaeee..." he slowly,
even a little weakly, brings a hand engulfed in his flames up above his
head, quickly enlarging it to a fireball the size of a basketball....
"YUGAREEEEE!!!" Kusanagi cries, sliding forwards while sweeping his hand in
front of him, unleashing a spectacular wave of fire towards Billy. The
spectators and reporters behind Billy start scrambling out of the way.

Well, that isn't good. After hitting Kyo as hard as he possibly could, Billy
finds himself face to face with a giant freaking fireball. Not good at all.
About to find himself struck head on by the force of the inferno, Billy
hinges on his one last gambit. Still in mid-air from his previous Dai
Senpuu, Billy summons up the absolute last droplet of energy he has to keep
rotating, trying to bring himself around for one more tremendous smack with
his staff collection. If he can manage it, he might just salvage the contest
with a brutal last attack. If not... well, Kyo might find himself slapped
upside the head by ONE staff -- it all depends on how long his energy holds
out. All the same, Billy can't avoid being hit by the encroaching ball of
flame, and rockets backwards into the rapidly retreating crowd. Fortunately
not aflame, but battered, beaten, and charred as he lays flat on the ground.
