Strolheim - [R1] Team Oro vs Team Terry

Description: In the first fight of the Strolheim Tournament, Terry and HeavyD! win to Oro and Shingo by concession, despite a stellar performance by Shingo in the first half of the fight. (Winners: Terry and Heavy D!)

The match between Oro's team and Terry's team finally arrives. Set in the main courtyard of Strolheim castle, several of the Strolheim students who were not practicing or watching other fights have gathered. Some of them look askance at the old man standing off to one side, having seen just what Oro can do in a fight.

Oro, for his own part, is rubbing at the back of his neck, looking grouchy. "It's getting close to my naptime," he complains. "Let's get this finished up quick, huh?" He slouches in place, surveying the area and the other fighters with his beady red eyes.

If one were looking for the young man known better as Shingo Yabuki, they would locate him near to his teacher for this tournament. Currently continuing his 30 minute warm-up by hopping in place and time willing, get some quick stretching in. Those familiar with him will notice that his hands are strangely bare of his precious gloves from his regular 'teacher'. In their place are the wristbands he normally used to wear. "Sure thing, master. Now I can prove to Kusanagi-san how much I've improved! And next time we'll definitely be on the same team!" Highly optimistic as usual. And why shouldn't he? Mind over matter and all that jazz.

HeavyD Frowns, watching from the opposite side of the field taht the fight seems to be set to happen on. He knows the whole crop of fighters is supposed to be elite...but the old man just seems out of place in here, he doesn't know why. "Naptime?" he mutters under his breath, straightening the coller of his jacket as he watches Oro and the schoolkid that acts as the student of the team, conveniently. "So we're doing this then?"

Across from Oro is Terry Bogard, HIGHLY enthusiastic about the coming battle. There are very few opportunities when one gets to fight someone as legendary as, say, Oro. In fact, this fight will probably the highlight of the entire tournament for him. Currently, he's hopping in place for the moment, getting a feel for the coming battle. Finally, he gives HeavyD a side glance, along with a grin and a thumbs up, before turning into his fighting stance. "Oro... It's an honor to meet you. But I'll be disappointed if you give anything but your all! Get ready!!"

Oro shakes his head at Shingo and mutters, "Didn't know better, think you were in love." He stretches his one arm out, sighing heavily. He casts one more look over the scene, his eyes glinting as they pass over Terry. "I'll decide exactly how much to give, kid." He stifles a yawn, shrugging. "Well, we might as well get started. Get on out there and show me you've got the right stuff, Shingo." With that, he slaps Yabuki on the back - not with his full force, of course. That would send Shingo into a wall. But hard.

Given no chance for a response, Shingo is sent stumbling into the ring/arena from Oro's tag. He quickly regains his composure and looks over his shoulder to give a thumbs-up to his temporary master before dropping into his fighting stance. He's ready for his opponent, be it Terry or D. Taking a deep breath, Shingo closes his mind to all distractions except the fight at hand. Just like he was taught. "Let's go."

COMBATSYS: Shingo focuses on his next action.

Well, his partner seems enthused. So he'll take it that this Oro guy is stronger than he looks. Giving Terry a thumbs up back, HeavyD straightens up and settles into his standard boxing stance, bouncing on the balls of his feet. Seeing the other team take the waiting approach, D! decides to use the time to prepare something himself, muscles tensing and stance tightening. If someone makes the first move of the match, he might as well let it be the stronger of the team.

COMBATSYS: HeavyD gathers his will.

Well, someone has to get things started! Terry seems to be ready to witness the world explode right in front of him. And yet, people seem to be taking their time and planning out their strategies. This isn't, however, the way Terry does things. Instinct is a dominating factor of most of his actions, after all. And so it is Terry making the first move, springing forward and flying towards the elderly warrior with his arm extended, chi both launching him forward and igniting his hand! "BURNING!"

COMBATSYS: Oro blocks Terry's Burn Knuckle.

Oro's mouth twists. "Stop lollygagging and fight! I'm not getting any younger here." Oro glares at Shingo and HeavyD!. Damn slacker kids.

Someday Oro's going to have to track down the person who began this nonsense of calling out an attack and beat them senseless. The element of surprise is completely wasted on these new fighters. As he's glaring at the students, Oro's arm whips up, allowing Terry's fist to impact solidly on his granite forearm. "Take it easy, hotshot," he mutters to Terry. "Don't you want to see how well your student does?"

COMBATSYS: Oro takes no action.

With Oro taking on Terry, that leaves the boxer for Shingo. He makes a note that he just has to watch out for D's punches, seeing that boxing professionals never use kicking techniques. And that may be just the advantage he needs. Cause just because Heavy D won't use kicks, that doesn't mean Shingo will do the same. He proves this point quite nicely when he hops at D to launch himself into a butterfly twist. Using the momentum his body generates, he extends his leg right at the American Sports Team member. "SHINGO KIIIIIICKU!"

Well, it may not have technically been an advantage, but it works for Shingo. Just as Heavy D! had finished pumping himself up, the kick twists in. The Metroite tries to put his fists up to intercept the kick, but it drops hard on his shoulder, causing him to buckle and nearly drop to a knee. "GHHnnn.." But that's ok, really! It gives D! a chance to snap back with a move that would have needed him to go lo anyways. "RRRHHAA!" With a sound of exertion, he lifts his fist up into a powerful uppercut, a blast of chi-power exploding from the arc his fist makes to fly toward the wannabe Kusanagi.

... It doesn't look like he's going to be getting any serious input from Oro, which frustrates Terry to say the least. He's about to pull back and go into another technique, when suddenly his student is quite nearly crumpled. He stretches his arms behind his head, shrugging towards Oro, and watches HeavyD's form. "Balance! Don't let him weaken your legs!" Terry honestly never thought of himself as a good adviser. He trains by doing, after all, but he... may as well give it a shot.

A solid hit! Things are looking good for Shingo from the get go. And even though he hasn't completely recovered from his technique, he feels D's movement through his foot and fully expects a counter attack. Once he lands on his feet, instead of going on the defensive, he rushes headstrong into the oncoming chi attack. His objective? Take the hit from the chi in hopes of getting closer enough to keep up his offense going strong. The technique for this little stunt? His unfinished version of Kyo's Demon Scorcher. Pushing up with both legs, he swings his elbow to begin the spin and complete the move. "Oriyaaaaa!"

While it make be incomplete...it stil hurts like bloody hell. D! tries his best to move to the side and avoid the hit, fists still held together in stance...but the elbow slams into the side of his head, the boxer having misread the move. Stumbling to his side, D! tries to shakes off the heavy hit. Gritting his teeth as he tries to measure his next move, he darts forward, nearly phasing out of sight as he slides toward Shingo. His image solidifies, striking toward his gut with a swift body blow, before he phases out again, this time trying to do Shingo's own trick against him with a hard right straight to the side of his knee.

... Damn, that kid hits hard. It looks like the complete lack of flames isn't such a bad thing after all! Terry can't help but give an impressed whistle. But that doesn't mean he's completely lost faith in his own student. "This joker has no technique, man. You got him outclassed, now capitalize on it!"

Oro raises his head. "Huh. I'll give him this, he listens." As the students' fight progresses, Oro's expression becomes more awake. Shingo's definitely working the boxer over. Oro'd given him odds on that, but Shingo's performing well beyond his expectation. "Looks like I've got a little prodigy on my hands," he comments to Terry, sounding amused. "Kid does well with what he's got, I must admit."

This kid is in the zone. And as such, doesn't fall for Heavy D's little speed movement trick. In fact, he holds his ground and focus. Wait for it, wait for it. The second the boxer comes in for the strike, Shingo is waiting for him. If D were to look up as he was executing his attack, he would see the looming figure of the teen bring his elbow crashing down towards him. The elbow, not really the attack, does the job of deflecting the punches. However, in doing so it throws him off balance. Need to work on that. But, first! A side thrustkick flies out at Heavy's chin. This not only serves as a nice little counter attack, but also gives him time to get back on his feet. When he does, he simply asks to noone in particular (really), "Looks like training with master Oro is paying off, huh?"

Ok....this is just getting plain freaking ridiculous. D! likes it when he's facing people at full power, and really wouldn't want anyone to go easy on him...but cripes, is he getting manhandled. Kicked away nice and hard in the chin after his punch is deflected, the boxer skids across the grounds, slowly getting more and more battered. Struggling up off of his back, he watches Shingo through unfocused eyes. He hears his 'teacher's' encouragement, but seriously can't see where Shingo is lacking in technique. There's no other choice. He's going to have to pull out THAT move. His fist tightens as he starts to rise, shakily getting up off of his knees. He stays slumped for a little while as he moves up....but finally, with a snap up and a stomp forward, his right fist rages out, a powerful extension of chi lancing out from his arm toward his opponent in hopes of evening the score

Oi. If anything, Kusanagi-ryuu Kobujutsu is holding Shingo BACK. Even though the fight is definitely not going D's way, Terry doesn't look disappointed in the slightest. HeavyD is doing admirably, it's just that it is a tad bit overshadowed by the young warrior. Nevertheless, Terry continues to support his student, looking quite impressed as his fist suddenly transforms into a massive blast of chi.

Oro couldn't agree more, assuming Terry had said that out loud, anyway. The fact that Shingo's doing so well with a style he should be horrible at is a strong hint at what lies underneath. HeavyD! gets a glance from Oro, that of mild surprise. "Huh. Usually the boxer types are too braindead to figure that stuff out." His eyes flick back to Shingo, intent on what the boy's response will be.

Oro apparently has the next Jesus for a student. No offense to anyone out there. It's just that Shingo is in superb form tonight. It's as though they secretly replaced him with a omnidroid possessed by a demon or something. Cause here is what is only assumed to be Heavy D's most powerful attack dodged by a high school student. What has Oro been feeding that boy?

Anyways, taking what he learned from the wizened fighter, Shingo senses the chi build-up within his opponent. Closing his eyes as he has done before in training, he clears his mind of all thoughts. His mind's eye only seeing D as a focus of energy. So when the attack hurtles towards him, he is more than ready. Only this time, these aren't rocks. It's the devastating fist of a good fighter. Still, Shingo darts to one side and quickly gets in under the attack. With the force of his manuever behind him, he grabs D! by the collar and spins so as to hurl the boxer to the ground!

You know...maybe D! should have trained a little more before this match. That's the only answer that seems to explain why the hell D!'s getting his ass kicked so royally. D! tries to find a way to use the throw to his advantage. YOu know, retaliate with his own throw after getting chucked by Shingo...but no go. He's dropped HARD on the ground, tossed by his collar to land with a crunch on his side. Grunting, he tries to shut out all the pain he's feeling, simply lunging at Shingo while he's still in close and hopefully driving his right arm into his chest with a desperate punch.

Well, this sure isn't going the way D! would like it. But sometimes, as Terry knows fully well, that's really just the luck of the draw. He still looks impressed at the fact that Shingo's doing so well, and he's STILL giving D! his support. But adding to that, he is secretly gathering his wits, because he feels that in a short period of time he'll have two people on him. Not that the thought of it worries him, but it's always best to be prepared!

"I guess it's about time for our part of the fight, young'un." He stifles another yawn, slowly taking some steps away from Terry - while the Bogard kid prepares his bowels for the next stage of the match, Oro subtly shifts into a less relaxed position. Yet again an elbow slams to a halt Heavy D's attack. This time instead of deflecting the punch, it serves as a guard and medium. In that Shingo channels the kinetic energy from the thrown fist through his body and to his waist and hips which he then uses to send another kick at the fisticuff expert's way. Namely, aiming for his rib cage this time. Hopefully, it'll make D's technique even sloppier that it currently is right now from the hits he has received thus far. Although, yet again Shingo falls over from executing the counter but is back on his feet soon after.

The kick strikes D! hard in his ribs, a crack felt as the stress from both the throw and the final kick finally breaks on. Pain finally starting to haze his brain, D! stumble back...then forward, grasping his side where the rib snapped. Finally, he starts to fall forward, his free arm swinging over head for one last desperate punch, before he drops face first, out cold.

It doesn't take Shingo much effort to lean out of the way of the oncoming desperate punch. To him, it seems like slow motion. Not as an insult to Heavy D's fighting ability, but mainly due to the fact that it was probably a wild swing. A last attempt to get a hit in before going down. Satisfied with the results he stands straight and smiles while rubbing his nose, "Yatte ze!" (I did it!) With his current opponent down for the count, Shingo already sees that his teacher has finally engaged Terry. Not one to intrude without an invitation, he then shouts out, "Hey! Master Oro! Shingo shrugs at that, "Uh...ok. Whatever you say, master." What else can he do? He could jump in and assist Oro. But the old guy here said to just stand back and watch. So interrupting would be a bad idea unless he'd enjoy getting whupped after the match. Thinking better of it Shingo does as he is told. Of course he's taking notes in his trademark notepad. As always, Terry is having fun with this even if the odds may be quite stocked against him. However, his attention doesn't divert from Oro even slightly, and as soon as Oro lashes out with a kick Terry stops it and shrugs it off with his own leg. Oro starts to get to his feet, but the initial quick kick catches him off balance just enough for Terry to follow through with the attack. It does send him rocketing into the air, but even before he reaches the apex he's righted himself. Kid's faster than even Krauser was. With a twist to his mouth that could almost be called a smile, Oro points his hand toward Terry, palm forward. The air around his hand glows brightly for a moment before it coalesces into a thick yellow disc which whips through the air, slashing downward toward Terry.

Scribble. Scribble. Scribble. Note. Note. Note.

Shingo is taking down key points in not only Terry's techniques but Oro's as well. Who knows when one day the student must face the teacher, right? Hell, it might even happen in this tournament as the surprise twist! Or not. Whatever. He just stands the side and makes sure he's not in the way.

The projectile sails right into the Lone Wolf, sending him backwards and into the ground despite his effort to stop it with an attack of his own. His teeth grit, and he takes quite some effort to get back to his feet. His eyes slowly lift and focus back on Oro, preparing his defense despite the fact he's definitely not in the best of ways right now.

Oro only now begins to fall from his spot in the sky, the Sun Disk having gone ahead of him. "A little more, I think," he mutters to himself. He angles his body subtly, aiming toward Terry for a followup attack. Midway to the ground, he twists himself around, legs pointing down. At the appropriate moment, he stabs out with two sharp kicks aimed at Terry's head, using that to bounce off and land elsewhere.

oO(The way this is going, Master Oro may not want me to help him out at all. Oh well! At least I'm getting good notes from this!)Oo

Shingo does what he does best when he isn't fighting, besides being all damn cheerful all the time. That's right, he continues jotting important information down in his notepad. Knowing one day that it shall come in very handy if he were ever to face these two fighters in the future. Nothing much else to see here folks. Move along.

COMBATSYS: Shingo takes no action.

Terry doesn't really make any attempt to dodge the blow. After all, there's really no point, since it's coming far too quickly for him to recover and take the blow. He's STOMPED down into the ground once again, and though he's faring better than his student did he has to wonder how long he can carry on. But this definitely isn't a surrender of his will, as right away Terry is springing back up, turning and dashing towards Oro, stopping only for a moment to pivot his body around and deliver a solid roundhouse kick to the elderly fighter's chest area.

Oro only has enough time to turn around after he lands to see Terry rushing toward him. The kick impacts on his chest with a solid thud, and Oro goes skidding backwards. "Aiya," he complains, rubbing at his chest, "I'm getting too old for this." He stands up, stretching his back. "Shingo, get over here and fight, would you? I'm going to go have a rest." Still muttering under his breath, Oro turns and trundles toward the nearest wall to settle down.

Well. This is an interesting turn of events. Shingo doesn't even hear the old man at first. Too engrossed in his meticulous detail recording ways. It's only after he notices Oro walking away does the teacher's words sink in. Quickly tucking his book safely away, he dives into the fray. Actually, more like of jumpkicks into it. With a running start, he takes to the sky as no ordinary straight A highschool student can (not saying that Shingo is a straight A student and not saying he isn't) and targets Bogard's conveniently marked bright red cap. Complete with battle cry action! <Insert favourite battlecry here>!

Fortunately the calling more or less telegraphed the young Yabuki's kick enough that Terry could have seen it coming from the moon. He looks at Oro for a moment, sighing to himself, before casually leaning his head out of the way as the schoolboy passes right by him. And as he lands, Terry has already prepared his retaliation: a solid fist flying up in an uppercut to send Shingo back... well... far enough.

Oro settles down against the wall, letting out a loud sigh. He alternates rubbing the muscles in each leg, keeping half an eye on the fight. "Don't worry, Shingo, he's not as tough as he looks! You should be able to finish this off."

Sweat must be getting in the kid's eyes or something. Cause he could've sworn Terry was wearing a red hat just a moment ago. And now all of sudden he isn't! Which could explain why his attack goes wide. No matter, it's just a simple task or recovering and...

*POW!*

Right in the kisser. The delicious uppercut from the Lone Wolf actually manages to lift Shingo off the ground and send him sprawling to the ground. Also splitting his bottom lip. Mmm, blood. Obviously, he had bad timing with that mean elbow of his. Or maybe Terry's just that good. Either way, it didn't quite work out as planned. He quickly rolls to his side to hopefully evade any follow-up attacks and get back in the game.

But Terry isn't about to let up. The fight with Oro has obviously upped the Lone Wolf's adrenaline quite a bit. And that seems to make all the difference when it comes to fighting with Terry. As such, he takes no effort to let up, continuing his pursuit after Shingo and stopping just short to deliver a soccer ball kick to the hopefully still recovering Kusanagi pupil! "Shoulda taken better notes, kid!!"

Or. Not taken notes at all. It is now apparent that Shingo should not have allowed his body to cool down. So while his opponent's adrenaline is pumping, his own which was beginning to wear off now has to more or less start from scratch. The fight with Heavy D starting to show. He reflexively brings his hands in a downward circular motion to block the kick. Managing to avoid taking full damage, the kick does slide him back some. And when it does he pivots on the ball of forward foot, swinging the rear one back and up to propel himself into an upward twist. The pivoting foot soon follows suit and is in the air with its companion after being used to push off and is swung around when Shingo turns his body. The result is a cute little kick right at Terry's head. Again. No battlecry this time. Awwww. Although, there is some grunting for the fangirls.

Should Heavy D be conscious right now, he would probably be embarrassed by his own performance. Terry is unrelentless in his assault, and no kick, no matter how potent, is going to stop the Lone Wolf. Of course, it's very unfortunate that he's exploding into action against the wrong person. As the kick NEARLY hits him, he deftly shifts to the side once more, this time attempting to snag the Kusanagi pupil out of the air by the foot, and swing him HARD into the ground.

Grappled though he may be, Shingo refuses to take the brunt of the attack. Yeah his kick is caught in mid-air. So what if he's faceplanted into the ground. What matters is that as soon as he feels the shock of flesh meeting rock he first kicks out of the hold and with both hands firmly down executes a forward roll. Now adding to the busted lip is a bloody nose. Wiping it away with the back of one fist, he thinks carefully on his next plan of action. Terry is a lot faster and stronger than he is. But, Shingo has the heart of a champion! And champions aren't particularly well-known for losing. At least, last time he checked. So, let's switch up tactics for a second here. Instead of getting really up close and personal, how about some nice little strikes from a slight distance away? The Taiyo student lunges with a right hook of the 114 Style of Kusanagi-ryu kobojutsu, albeit a little incomplete, and immediately steps back an equal distance. Hit or not.

"Get a damn hit in already!" Oro bellows from the sidelines suddenly. "You're letting him run circles around you! Don't tell me you used up all your energy fighting the other guy!" Oro settles back with a harumph. If he had both arms available, he'd fold them. As it is, he taps his fingers on his bony knee, looking irritable.

Terry really is starting to feel bad for Shingo now. He can tell not only from Shingo's actions but his -spirit- that Shingo is doing what he can. The fact that Oro's getting angry doesn't particularly sit well with him, either. Terry sighs to himself a bit as he simply hops backward, letting the hook sail right in front of him. Immediately, he hops back inward and thrusts a leg out to get some distance between him and the Kusanagi pupil. And after that... well, he stands, smiling at the young student. "Kyo's done a nice job with you, kiddo. Just... breathe. Put more strength in your legs."

The foot bypasses the block and connects right with Shingo's gut. Brushing his still somewhat tender ribs from a previous fight last week and adding to what he's gotten from leader of the Hungry Wolves. That's what he gets for thinking the blow was aimed at his head. The boy grimaces from the pain, but lets out no audible cry. Terry's tip does not go unnoticed and the reply is a nod of appreciation. Right before charging headlong at his opponent. Determination set in his eyes, the teen shouts, "I CAN'T LOSE THIS ONE!" and performs a powerful shoulder tackle none the likes have ever seen before. Unless, you know, they've either fought Shingo or seen Shingo fight before. But that's beside the point!

And once again, Terry simply shifts to the side. He dodged a bullet train, there. But he has a feeling that this wasn't Shingo's real potential. As he dodges, he spins about to deliver a kick once again into Shingo's back, hopefully captitalizing on Shingo's already speedy momentum. "Don't worry, kid! You'll get the hang of it." he manages to say while slashing out with a vintage jean-clad leg.

For some strange, uknown reason Shingo almost gets the feeling he's the one with the horns at a bullfight. Especially after Terry the matador once more sidesteps yet another attempt on his life. And capitalize he does. The kick sends our young protagonist to his second home for this match against Bogard, the floor face first. But! With what little sense he has left, manages to get a hand down for balance and rotate himself around to spring back onto his feet. With less distance between the two fighters now, Shingo wipes his face clear of the mixture of blood, sweat, and tears before launching himself once more into action! "This...THIS IS MY FIGHTING SPIRIT!!!!!!" Bodily fluids sprinkling on the ground with each foot fall. Hopefully, with a closer proximity to his opponent, this move will definitely leave his mark. If he's gonna go down, then it's going down fighting. And for clarification's sake, he just literally threw himself in Terry's direction shoulder-leading. Which when it lands, will do more than just sting.

COMBATSYS: Shingo can no longer fight.

And this time, -somehow-, Shingo manages to land the hit. Gasping in amazement, Terry's eyes widen as he literally falls to the floor. Even if it hurts like a bitch, to say that Terry wasn't impressed or pleased would be a lie. He hits the ground, solid, before gasping for the air that was knocked straight out of him. "Good... I can see you've learned something." But slowly, he stands, knowing fully well that his job here is far from over. Rising to a crouch, his attention shifts to Oro. "... You. You and I have unfinished business." That's all he offers the hermit, before he starts... hopping in place again, breathing slowly... and once again preparing for the fight to come.

Tooth and nail, buddy. Tooth and nail. That's how Shingo would want to be known in this tournament for. You know, beyond being the Kusanagi-ryu kobojutsu student there is and proving how great the style really can be. And with his last ditch effort against the famous Terry Bogard a success, the wannabe flamethrower can rest content that he did his best and has no regrets. After all, throwing your entire body while battered, bruised, and bloody is not exactly your average walk in the park. The stress on his body is too much for the young man. And no matter how much he wants to fight it, it's a losing battle. The mind is wiling, but the body is weak. With but one last quiet mutter of, "I did it Kusanagi-san," he finally passes out. A smile on his face.

Oro's anger deflates as he watches Shingo's last stand, replaced by a tiredness that seems substantially more sincere than he had been claiming before. He pushes himself to his feet, ambling over toward Shingo. He doesn't exactly look ready to continue the fight, though he stops as he gets near Terry. The old man looks up at the big blond, his red eyes considering, weighing. Finally he shrugs his one-armed shrug and says, "It'll have to stay unfinished. We concede the fight." Turning away from Bogard, he leans down to grab Shingo's arm and put it around his shoulders, hefting him up.

Needless to say, Terry is a little frustrated and even a little upset at Oro. After all, this isn't the first time a more than worthy challenge, one who would probably have been able to stop Terry right there had just... given up right in front of him. But then again, he can sense that Oro had his reasons, having recently lost his will to continue. He visibly frowns a bit, sighing to himself. "... I don't get you, old man. But it's your call."

COMBATSYS: Terry takes no action.

Oro gives Terry a mild smile. "Oh, there's nothing much to get. I don't really give a damn about this tournament, you see. I'm also not such a hot-blooded youngster like yourself who has to punch everything that moves. You'll understand, maybe, when you get to be my age." Oro turns for the exit, walking Shingo along easily as if he didn't weigh a thing. "Good luck, though," he calls over his shoulder. "I'm sure you'll do well here on out."

Despite how confused he is at the moment, Terry can't help but resist a chuckle and a grin. "Well, there's a lot of things I still don't get any way you look at it. But I'll be happy if I'm half as good as you are when I get to be your age. Thanks for the match, friend." Even though Oro couldn't really be considered his friend. Terry too turns around, lifting up the American Boxer and putting his arm around his neck. "C'mon, bro. We've got a lot of work ahead of us."
